On the Grid : The Long and Short

"Sometimes sticking to the basics is the best policy. Long and short does one thing and does it well – make coffee. Melbourne coffee shops set the bar extremely high, so there’s no room for scrubs, and the Long and Short passes all tests with flying colours. The owner, Scrodge, is always down for a chat and seems to know everything worth knowing about the goings on of Brunswick, so if you’re looking for a point in the right direction, head down, grab a coffee and say hi. There's a small selection of tasty snacks as well." - Smith & Thomas

✔️ Prawn Crackers, Tom Yum ⭐️ Coconut Chicken Croqueta, Manchego ✔️ Grilled Scallop, Kombu Butter ✔️ Prawn Roll, Sambal Mayo ⭐️ Fried Calamari, Tamarind Aoili ⭐️ Fried Cauliflower, Cashew Nut Cream ✔️ Grilled Chicken Thigh, Burnt Lemon ✔️ Grilled Pork Neck Longsong is a Thai inspired cocktail bar located in Melbourne’s CBD. It is by the @scottpicket group, located just upstairs to their sister restaurant @longrainmelbourne. The venue is stunning, featuring flickering lanterns hanging from the ceiling and views overlooking Little Bourke Street. The cocktail menu is experimental - we couldn’t pick a bad option! Highly recommend the Clarified Milk Tea, the On the Flip Side for a smokey watermelon vibe or the Keeping it Cool with cucumber, pineapple and chilli. 🌶️ For those non-alc, their experienced bartenders (shoutout to @noahespositoo) can make you up whatever you like, based on the flavours you enjoy. They are amazing, not just a bunch of juices mixed together! 🍸

The food menu is brand new, full of small bites designed for picking and sharing, incorporating South East Asian flavours that pair well with their drinks menu. We ordered the entire menu (except the nuts) for 2 people as a dinner, coming to just $62pp and we were full! 😮‍💨 The highlights - the Coconut Chicken Croqueta tasted absolutely bang on, the Fried Calamari was so tender and had an insane seasoning, and the Fried Cauliflower featured amazing flavours (I did expect them to be battered but not mad about it). The Grilled Chicken and Pork Neck had the most beautiful charred skin and delicious dipping sauce. I’d also love a bag of those Prawn Crackers to-go!! 👀 This spot deserves more love and attention, the food is amazing and the drinks are faultless. The only thing stopping it from being a 5 for us was the fact it is very quiet apart from Fridays and Saturdays where it does get busy around 7-9pm. They also have a DJ playing - I believe every night! If you’re after a private function spot this would also be spectacular. 😍 ⭐️ 4.7/5 💸 $$

An exceptional choice of venue for our work function. We were greeted with great cocktails on arrival. Abundant and high quality finger food was served throughout the night and didn't stop coming. The music was a bit too loud for networking but it was perfect for the dancing afterwards. 5 star, if you don't really need to talk. Fabulous bar, service and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

My husband and I had our wedding reception here! Homra and staff were so incredibly helpful, thoughtful and really made our big day a breeze. The food was exceptional (even when feeding 83 people in sync) and the drinks were flowing the whole night. I would highly recommend longsong for any event - especially a wedding reception. Homra even made sure our projector idea worked!

We hosted a 30th birthday dinner in the central dining area of Longsong (The Stalls) and had a great experience! The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive throughout the night and the banquet menu we had was tasty and well received by our guests. If you're thinking of holding an event we'd highly recommend this space! Thanks to the team for having us.

Perfect place for a drink before the theatre, a great bar in the heart of the city with a distinctive aesthetic. The bar staff are very knowledgeable and very friendly. There is a range of drinks with unique cocktails and don't be afraid to ask the bar staff for the classics that aren't on the menu. Looking forward to going back to try the food.

Gorgeous bar, I loved sitting by the open windows overlooking the street. Food, wine and service were great. My only feedback would be to put dessert things on the menu!

Yelp
A fascinating space created from what was a stables - I still can't get my head around horses being kept upstairs but apparently it's true. The ambience is beautiful with the high, pitched roof, paper-lantern effect lighting and the brick flooring. The bench seating near the bar is nice but the accompanying stools are not very comfortable, you have been warned! We didn't try any of the food, so I can't comment on that. It seems to be posh bar food, designed for late night snacking. The drinks menu has something for everyone, but I wasn't blown away by the cocktails. Worth checking out pre-Longrain, or later in the evening for a moody nightcap.
