The 20 Best Restaurants On Martha’s Vineyard 2024

"You can’t have an East Coast vacation without a perfect summer shack that serves lobster rolls and fried clams, and the Lookout is the best version of that on the Vineyard. With views overlooking Oak Bluffs, you can watch people file out of the ferry, or just gaze at the ocean while tucking into that aforementioned toasted and buttery lobster roll, alongside fried seafood, raw bar offerings, and a solid assortment of fresh sushi, all available to-go. They also do a refreshing rum punch and margaritas." - tanya edwards

Lookout Tavern in Martha's Vineyard is truly a gem! From the moment we arrived, it was clear why this place is so popular – it was absolutely packed, a sure sign of a fantastic establishment. We were quoted a 45-minute wait, but to our pleasant surprise, it ended up being much shorter, which was a great start to the evening. Once seated, the service was great, attentive despite the bustling atmosphere, making us feel well taken care of. And the food? Exceptional! Every dish was prepared with care, fresh, and bursting with flavor. It's the kind of meal that makes you want to linger and savor every bite. Adding to the overall magic was the beautiful view. Overlooking the water, it provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. Between the lively atmosphere, the fantastic service, the incredible food, and the stunning scenery, we absolutely loved this place. Lookout Tavern is a must-visit on Martha's Vineyard!

Google
A fun place full of people. The food is average but good. Fish and chips were solid, lobster roll a thumbs up with homemade potato chips! Drinks were good. It was hot and crowded so get some fresh air and sit near or on the deck. Make reservations. A tourist trap for sure but good. It's worth eating there. Tell em Barsnobs sent ya.

Stopped in Lookout Tavern for lunch after arriving on Martha's Vineyard by ferry. Had one of the best hot Lobster Rolls we've had on our trip to date. We were able to get a table on the porch with a great view. Good start!

Google
Great visit! If you get something with fries or chips, you'll receive a mountain of them. The house made chips are really hearty, I sort of wished they had come with a chipotle aioli or a caramelized onion dip or something, but everything was delicious without.

Google
Wow!! The food is amazing!!! I had the Cajun shrimp tacos, my husband had the grilled salmon! Chefs kiss!!! Absolutely wonderful!!!!

Google
The view of the water is divine, and so is the food. A special shout out for the lobster rolls and the bisque taste as good as it looks!

Google
Great place to start your trip to the Vineyard. Walk up the hill and get ready for the best lobstah roll on the island. Drinks are good. Prices aren't bad for a tourist town. Close to other shopping. Staff was super helpful with my mom who uses a walker. Found her a table on the first floor that she could access easily through an exit.

Google
The ahi burger was pretty good, otherwise the place is the type of place tourists go to and locals avoid.

Yelp
One of the best views on the boneyard for lunch! Logistics: beautiful view, a short walk from the Oak Bluff Ferry. They do not take reservations, and it's always bustling so be prepared to wait. The best view however is on the upper deck, with like a bar seating area facing the water. This is first come first serve! So you can join the waitlist for a table but even better to stalk out this stool seating! Food & Drinks: loved the fish tacos and fries! I tried the Mahi Mahi taco first and it was very tough. Unfortunately when I told the waiter she stated, "Have you ever had Mahi?" Um yes and I love it. And know this is overdone! Even if I hadn't, that's not the response if a customer does not enjoy their food. It was an early lunch so I wanted more than a mimosa, but still light and airy cocktail! The Shaboozey Spritz was perfect, has Prosecco and tequila ! They have TVs inside playing most sports games!

Yelp
I had lobster roll on my mind and after doing some research I knew that this was going to be the spot for it. It was an hour long wait checking in around 1-1:30pm on a Friday. Worth it tho! I had the sautéed lobster roll with lots of butter and house made chips. It was HUGE. I felt like I ate two lobsters. Great flavor - it was exactly what I was looking for. My wife got the sushi and tbh I think it was overpriced for what it was. She wasn't a fan of what seemed to be mayo based sauce on top of the mango roll. Our server was really nice, the atmosphere is family friendly and casual. Perfect spot to grab lunch.

Yelp
10/10 lobster roll and margaritas! Service is always great and the atmosphere is fun and casual!

Yelp
We came here on a weekday summer afternoon and this place was packed. We ordered a lobster roll and beyond burger and thought that overall the food was just okay. The lobster roll had a lot of lobster but there was only butter, so the roll was a little bland. The beyond burger was not really good, as it was cooked well done and didn't have much flavor so I could barely finish half of it. I had to ask for condiments, which was strange that even though our table had a few orders of fries, there was no ketchup. The place was busy so our server was not super attentive. Not sure we would come back or if this place is worth the hype or the price.

Yelp
**EAT HERE** This place is lively and packed! We got two seats overlooking the water where the Ferry comes in. Beautiful View. We had the Fish and Chips. The two pieces of Fish were HUGE and the batter was light and had good seasoning. There were soooo many crunchy, good French Fries! We also had the Lobster Roll and that was also huge and packed with buttery Lobster meat. The bun was so good! Their homemade chips are ADDICTIVE! The Lobster Roll here ruined it for any other Lobster Roll we had on the Vineyard. Nothing compared to this one. Full bar, beer and wine. TV's to watch sports. Outside dining too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Lookout Tavern is my go to spot on Martha's Vineyard. Conveniently located in Oak Bluffs, Lookout is a great place to dine before leaving the island. The menu is traditional bar food with the obligatory lobster roll as a welcome addition. There's a multitude of screens if you want to catch up on your local sports while dining in an open air restaurant. Servers are super attentive.

Yelp
Cute restaurant! Both in and outdoor seating. It wasn't super busy when we got there, but by the time we were leaving the line was out the door. Our food and drinks came out much faster than anticipated. Their oysters were super good! Both the hubby and I had the surf n turf burger. The lobster was excellent! Cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The burger was less than desired. The cook was okay, asked for medium and got a little closer to well, the burger patty its self was under seasoned. The burger could've used a sauce or something to really bring it all together. My normal fries were excellent, but the hubbies sweet potato were under cooked. Next time here I'd still go here but would want to try something different!

Yelp
The views from the restaurant are AMAZING! They can get very busy around lunch time but their quick service makes up for it. Seated in no time and it didn't take long for the food to come out. The lobster roll was five stars!!! One of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend for MV first timers! Met tons of locals while eating here and learned so much about the rich history of Oak Bluffs.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite go-to "best bang for your buck" Lookout is sure to give you great portions every time. Also, there are so many plates you can make sharable. Tends to be very crowded because it's so popular but the service is always helpful despite the business. The ambiance is casual good seafood and options of sushi. Overlooking the water and the ferry!

Yelp
Amazing! I was told this is a must visiting Marthas Vineyard and i am glad i came. The views on a nice summer day is what sold me! It is a bit of a tourist trap but its worth visiting. Its generally packed. Staff is friendly and attentive. Ordered the lobster roll, lobster was fresh! I would expect it to be from that area lol. Solid food and atmosphere. You must get a seat with a view if you come here! Very glad i was able to experience this place and visit it on this trip

Yelp
Surprisingly good sushi! It's a good vibe, service was good and nice food option after a lot of places are closed.
google avatar

JoAnna S.

Yelp
Good place for a drink. Had a cool view, but because it was so cold, they had the clear plastic wall down, which really helped keep it warm, but affected the view. I bet this place would be an awesome spot in the summer time. It was very busy, but we got a spot at the counter by the window. I felt like our waitress was on top of things. We got some edamame, which was tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
Lookout Tavern is one of our favorite spots in all of MV. Service is solid, food and drinks are great and fresh. If you're lucky enough to snag a seat with a view, enjoy! It's such a great treat, especially on a beautiful summer day. The buffalo popcorn shrimp is our favorite. We dream about it on the offseason!

Yelp
My friend Pauly from Falmouth, MA said if we are going to martha's Vineyard we had to try the Lookout Tavern. He said the view was amazing. We had tried many places up and down the harbor, but we had never been to the tavern on the other side of the street overlooking the ocean. It's a beautiful view and on top of the view the food was absolutely amazing. They have one best sushi and best lobster roll since 2012 every year. But once I saw the chicken salad with fresh cranberries and walnuts, I had to have it. There were six of us, we all got something different and everything was delicious. Make sure you look at the photos. I myself enjoyed all the different flavors that were inside of the chicken salad sandwich. It came with homemade fries and they were also delicious. I never thought smiling was a big deal. When we walked in, we were happy and smiling and said hello. I guess you just feel like the person you're talking to should also say hello and smile. I'm not saying they have to. I'm just saying it definitely turned the experience to the negative until we ordered. I know everybody has things on their mind, but sometimes just feeling welcome at a place makes the experience that much better. That would be the only feedback I have to the owner, "is your weight staff happy?" Because if they're not, it's definitely transferring to the customer. Otherwise, the food was delicious and the view was amazing. Thank you for lunch.

Yelp
Nice bar overlooking the oak bluffs. Surprised with the extensive sushi menu. We had several rolls and a bottle of wine. . Hadn't had sushi in a bit so nice indulgence. It was very good. Service was excellent. Attentive and quick to bring out food.

Yelp
This is sort of a "touristy" spot, because of the location, but it actually has very good food and pleasant service. If there are 2 or 3 of you, I'd suggest trying to get a seat along the edge of the dining room. You will truly be "looking out" at the ocean and Oak Bluffs ferry. It's beautiful on a nice day. The serving sizes are very big. Fish and chips comes with 2 large pieces of fish, and lots of fries. My husband loves their chicken salad sandwich, on grilled thick bread with chicken, cranberries and walnuts. He usually can only eat half, and has the other half for lunch the next day. It comes with homemade chips, but you can upgrade to fries for a small price. Their salads are also very large. The Cobb came with a lot of blue cheese and bacon, and was crisp & fresh. They also have a good sushi menu. Definitely recommend the "Mary and the Boys" which is a Bloody Mary with 2 big shrimp. I don't think they take reservations, so it's harder to get a group in, although there are more tables on the ground floor which lacks the "lookout" view.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
Views are spectacular here! I had Eddy in the tropics drink and it was nice and refreshing! I ordered the Spider Roll and it was interesting and also had broccoli in it which the menu did not specify. I have had way better sushi rolls so this was just mediocre. My husband had mahi mahi tacos with homemade chips. They were mediocre as well. Lacked flavor and season. Without the mango salsa the mahi mahi was very bland at best. Great views and drinks but food was blah.
google avatar

Yelp
A warm lobster roll at the lookout is mandatory when in MV. I tried the jumbo sautéed lobster roll with butter and I was in heaven. I could have devoured another one but I'll save it for next time. All the other seafood options are excellent but some are better suited for daytime and others like a warm lobster roll for evenings in my case. The staff is very friendly and attentive too.
google avatar

LaShanta H.

Yelp
The lobster roll here was very very good. The service and the atmosphere were perfect! It was a great introduction to Martha's Vineyard.
google avatar

Paige J.

Yelp
Lookout Tavern's sautéed lobster roll was OUTSTANDING! There's going to be a wait for a table, but the hostess will text you when your table is ready. The food is worth the wait! I also ordered the steak skewers that were marinated in a delicious sauce. #HappyEating
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good, reliable and the vibe is casual in a great location. Nice to sit looking out at the front towards the water, especially when the weather is nice. Great cocktails and I usually get a warm lobster roll. So yummy! Nothing on the island is cheap, including Lookout Tavern. We try to eat there every time we visit MV. It's an institution. Kinda like Linda Jean's for breakfast. Service at the Lookout Tavern is also good, attentive without hovering over the table.
google avatar

Sherry R.

Yelp
Lovely place at Martha's Vineyard as soon as you get off the ferry. I ordered fish tacos and chips. Fish was cooked perfectly and I loved the corn salsa! Would probably get the fries next time. Atmosphere was great and I sat at a bar along an open view of the water. Service was quick even with a full restaurant!
google avatar

Yelp
Went here as part of my Martha Vineyard visit with my parents on Monday July 15th 2024. We found this while walking by it, and decided to try it as it had both seafood and sandwiches. When we walked in, it was very busy, but there was no wait at all, and was immediately sat at a high top table. This place has wonderful window views of the pretty water, and we were able to see it! Server greeted us right away, and we all started with waters, and my dad had a corona. Took awhile to look over the menu, but i feel with any new place, one is bound to not exactly know what we wanted. They have an extensive Sushi Menu, and i went with the spicy salmon avacado roll. My dad had their famous lobster roll with fries, and my mom got a chicken sandwich. I very much enjoyed the spicy salmon avacado roll. My dad also liked his lobster roll, and i tasted it too, and liked it. my mom also liked her chicken sandwich. Got the check fast, and paid via credit card and left a cash tip. If we are ever in the area again, we would so go here!
google avatar

Taffanee K.

Yelp
The Food was amazing and so was the service. The lobster roll was giant, succulent, and just plan good. The same for the lobster taco. The service as just as good as the food. This is a definite go to if you are Oak Bluff.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
lobster roll here was soo yummy. i literally dipped every bite of my roll into the melted butter and it was *chefs kiss* (apparently it's also voted as one of the best lobster rolls @ martha's vineyard) they were super generous with their portions of the lobster too! lobster tacos were unique and good as well but i didn't like it quite as much as the lobster roll - feel like it could've used a bit more sauce. glad i tried it though!! i left feeling so stuffed too
google avatar

Simone J.

Yelp
The service was great we got seated early on a busy night. The drinks were nice and the food was nice and fresh, didn't take too long to be served. The ambiance was great with a nice view of the water and sunset.
google avatar

Rhianna S.

Yelp
The service was okay. The lobster roll kinda had more of a fishy taste compared to others we had. I'm not sure if it was older. It was super crowded as well so if you're going to Edgartown, I would probably eat in that area instead.
google avatar

Johnny A.

Yelp
Local towny vibes. Summer workers, late nights, lively banter. It was a bar menu with perks, lots of plastic serving ware. Service was casual & happy. Tight quarters, but everyone was having high times and we didn't mind one bit. Great bar for sport things. We satisfied many cravings, but were especially fond of the fish & chips. Too many fries!!! Over sell on the lobster rolls, which we found kind of dry & light on flavor. The bun was over powering. Tons of lobster, but it is not my preferred style. We had a great time at this place. We sat on the porch late into the night.
google avatar

Lauren F.

Yelp
This place is always super busy, but if you have been lucky enough to squeeze a couple seats at the stool seats that run along the edge of the restaurant, which are first come first serve, you can sit down quick. Service was good, I know the servers are busy there and we felt taken care of. Food is pretty good- not overalls impressed with our appetizers - coconut shrimp was fine but crab cakes were small and not very flavorful/fresh for the price they were. The lobster roll was delicious! It was large, sweet, and very tasty. I'd come back here for another one. The place overlooks the water, hence the name, and it's a great and fun spot.
google avatar

Jacquie C.

Yelp
So good, we went back. My husband and I wanted a break from heavy seafood and fried food so we had sushi and steak skewers the first evening we stopped at The Lookout. Amazing food. Great sushi. We decided to try the lobster roll the following day and we were not disappointed. As far as on the Vineyard, best one we had. Great service and nice outdoor seating overlooking the water. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Cliff C.

Yelp
Really awesome place to go. Great bar. Great staff. Great food. We had lobster rolls different styles. They also have fresh sushi. Try it, you will love it. Sits right across from the beach. So great area to walk off some food. Go here
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
This place is so fun and lively. Go here for the atmosphere. Some of the food is great. It's like anywhere else on MVI--mediocre food with exorbitant prices. Lobster chowder was more flavorful than it's been in the past but still tasty. "Fresh" lobster on top tasted previously frozen but it as a generous portion and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish tacos had a good amount of fish but coming from California I'd be disappointed in the sauce and lack of cilantro. We had a wonderful birthday lunch here. No complaints.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I liked this spot for lunch. They had a decent selection of local beers as well as cocktails. We had the whole belly clams for an appetizer, they were really tasty! We also shared the lobster bisque, very good with a decent amount of lobster in it. I had the Cajun shrimp tacos, they were pretty tasty. I sampled the hot lobster roll, it was really yummy. The homemade chips were crispy and tasty. Definitely a good stop for lunch!
google avatar

Nicolette P.

Yelp
I've read reviews of multiple restaurants on the Vineyard and this one is touted as having the best lobster roll. I ordered through the app today and my estimated wait was 15 minutes- which is pretty good. I got there about 2 minutes after my food was supposed to be ready and checked in with the hostess. My food was sitting in a bag in the hostess stand (so no way for it to stay warm). Upon opening the container I was surprised by the size of the roll. Instead of a normal 6" hot dog roll, it appeared to be a foot long roll. The fried were also very plentiful. Unfortunately the lobster meat fell very short of my expectations. It was somewhat tough/chewy and did not taste very fresh. I'm fact the meat seemed over cooked. The fries were on the colder side. For $40 (roll & fries) I had much higher hopes. I do not recommend the rolls here.

Chris M.

Yelp
One of the best meals, and best views on the island. The service is attentive and friendly. Highly recommend the lobster roll (cold) and the lobster tacos. Some of the biggest portions of lobster you'll EVER see for the price. I washed my lobster roll down with a crisp UFO White (great wheat beer). Make this a go-to!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Still the best lobster roll available! Great service, great food good craft beers and amazing view of the ocean
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
It might be possible but it would be very very hard to beat their lobster roll and their fried clams. Both top notch. There usually is a wait for a table but it's worth it. Try to get a table in front so you can see the action outside.
google avatar

Winter B.

Yelp
Lookout Tavern has one of the best lobster rolls on the island. They are huge and packed with meat. Menu is extensive everything looked great-sushi, sandwiches, seafood, salad, etc. It does get very busy so put your name in. The wait usually is not very long, it's worth it! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Restaurant is crowded and has a coastal sports bar feel. Would recommend. I know they do takeout as well.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
A beautiful summer day with blue waters off cape cod. The place was packed with happy patrons. The service was fast, friendly and professional. Views from every seat as the venue sits high on the bluff. I have been here before and it was always good. Food selection and quality were top notch. Today was different - I got the packed Lobster Roll and it was great. The color and quality of the lobster. The freshness and preparation off the charts. I can't say I am a huge Lobster guy. I had seen this ordered before, never indulged. But my son had it and spoke so highly about it I decided to splurge. He was right. So right. Lobster roll rocks. Warning. It was pricey -but with the great vibe and great day it all fit perfectly together. Loved it
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
We literally walked by Lookout Tavern and noticed how hustling and bustling it was so we decided to dine in for lunch on a Saturday. They said 45-minutes wait and they will text me when a table is ready. We only waited 20-minutes. It was very busy but were served right away. We ordered the lobster roll, clam chowder, crab cakes, fried clams, and sushi roll. The lobster roll was very good and toasted bun with butter was delicious. Clam chowder was filled with chunks of clams. The least favorite would be the fried clams. They were not tool large and more batter than clams. Service was phenomenal.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
We had a party of 25 on a busy Sunday night. They don't take reservations, so we checked in at 5:30pm. By 6:15 we were all seated at 3 large outside tables near each other. We were really impressed they could fit us in! We enjoyed signature dishes - Lobster Rolls (cold) and Lobster Bisque, and they did not disappoint. The portions are large. Our 2 servers did a great job with our large group.
google avatar

Jodie C.

Yelp
Love this place! Jovana the bartender is the best!!! Great views, great food & great service!!

Reginald D.

Yelp
The best appetizers in town. I super lobster roll prepared three ways. So far I have had two ways. Staff is super friendly. Elevated comfort food exceeds expectations!

Yelp
Lookout Tavern is always one of our go to's when we're in Oak Bluffs. The vibe and energy are always great and the servers are friendly and fun! Of course the Sautéed Lobster Roll and the Clam Chowder are family favorites. Their salads are also really good and large portions. One of my favorite sandwiches is their California Turkey, so good and served with their house made chips. No matter what you order, you won't be disappointed. The Lookout Rum Punch and Walk The Plank drinks are delicious!! I do recommend that you don't go expecting to eat right away. The wait for a table can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours but definitely worth it! If you're lucky, you may be able to snag a seat on the railing with a view of the water and a great spot to people watch.
google avatar

Marcie G.

Yelp
Delicious lobster roll, speedy service with a smile. Gorgeous views from any seat. Best place to eat before or after ferry ride.
google avatar

KayAnna A.

Yelp
Plenty of options, especially if you are in the mood for lobster. I was craving lobster bisque and honestly this hot the spot. It was smaller than I expected but was still filling enough. My friends had the lobster tacos and the lobster roll. I loved the sautéed lobster roll. Smothered in butter to perfection. The lobster tacos were good but not great. Definitely would prefer the roll or bisque over the tacos. Would also love to try the lobster Mac and cheese next time. Overall there is plenty of parking and seating. Our hostess and servers greeted us right away and they were very kind and attentive. Great service!

Yelp
A must-go for locals and visitors alike. My first visit to the Lookout Tavern was years ago with my on-island family. I remember it was jam-packed with people and hopping with energy. The beer was ice cold and my patty melt was hot and delicious. Fast forward past countless meals and many more beers, we love sharing the Lookout with visiting family and friends...yes, we're now wash-a-shores (such a loving label from the locals). They've got a crazy large selection of food and drinks. From all kinds of seafood (think oysters, mussels, cooked fish, and sushi), to salads and burgers and tacos...and lobster rolls! I've tried a few around the island and, so far, I like LT's the best. The downside of LT is their popularity and the fact they don't take reservations. This means, for us anyway, we only go off-season or on the cusp.

Yelp
Perfectly located in front of ferry terminal overlooking the ocean. Really fun upbeat vibe & very sailor shack like decor. Despite the busy ness, the servers instantly took notice and took our orders with a smile on the face. The menu is super interesting with its range of cocktails, sharing plates, sushi, classic seafood & more. We weren't too hungry so just decided to try their calamari & spicy chinola. The calamari was some of the best I've ever had. Fresh and crispy, not too oily, topped with tangy banana peppers and served with sweet & spicy sauce. Creative! Spicy Chinola was delicious with its ghost pepper tequila providing a spice kick while beautifully balanced out with the sweet chinola passionfruit. Service was quick & efficient. Overall I'd highly recommend this place for a good time!

Yelp
This was the place that the B&B owners highly recommended, as it is their favorite local watering hole. This was a great choice for lunch! Looking out over the water, with ample seating and attentive staff, I could see why this is a favorite. According to the menu, the lobster roll was voted best in MV multiple years so I went with that as my first lobster roll of the season. This is a great deal, because it has approximately 7-8oz of lobster meat! For the price, that's one of the best I've ever seen. The flavor and quality were fantastic. Definitely going to return here if I ever return to MV!
