"This is one of my favorite spots in all of Boston, let alone the South End. The Butcher Shop is a cozy neighborhood wine bar, restaurant, and full service butcher inspired by Chef Barbara Lynch's travels throughout France and Italy. It is a tribute to European boucheries with a corner location making it the perfect place to grab a casual glass of wine and charcuterie, or watch the world go by over a longer dining experience. Sitting at the bar is a cozy affair but always brings about great conversation. The food is always amazing with a wine list to match. A butcher is on hand daily in the back of the house where you'll also find refrigerated cases stocked with house-made sausages, hot dogs, foie gras, and cuts of premium local beef, along with fresh dishes to go." - Adam&Co.

"As you probably guessed based on the name, the Butcher Shop specializes in big cuts of marbled meat. But it’s really best used as a wine bar instead of a steakhouse. As good as the meat is, the best things on the menu come from the small plate sections (you pretty much have to start with a charcuterie board). And it’s a small, dark spot that feels more like a date night restaurant than a place where business travelers drink martinis and close deals to buy struggling media companies." - dan secatore

Lord Jeff is a national treasure ! All they variety ?! Oxtail, goat, turkey, cow ! All my requests were met by friendly, patient and helpful staff. The prices are very competitive and the product is fresh. They would get a 5 star if they had better parking to accommodate the clientele. I’d definitely return.

Great prices on bulk whole chicken wings, oxtails cut to order, smoked goat rib chops, turkey wings, etc. They also have 10lb bags of rice, various spice blends and bulk frozen vegetables, etc. Customer service was excellent.

I absolutely love this place! Aside from the prices being exceptionally reasonable, a wide variety of meats and being able to have the meats cut to your liking, their customer service is EXEMPLARY! Anytime I have been there, their employees have been more then friendly, helpful, and patient! Highly recommend this place!

Google
This place has been around for such a long long time and I've noticed that they added new items like canned goods, but I truly go just to purchase meat. I've always liked their good quality meats and the prices are good for the amount of meat that you receive. I highly recommend them...

Google
Ok, this place is not very easy to find, that's first of all. Now there's a mini Cafe plus restaurant directly in front of the building and boy oh boy was the food great!!! The fish was both cooked and seasoned Amazingly.? The chicherones was very hard and beautiful. Rice and beans and fries, all I can say is check out both places 😋 👌 😌 ☺

Yelp
Butchers are always helpful, and the owner is extremely nice. The prices are much better than the supermarkets and the meats appear to be much fresher. Don't be intimidated by its industrial location, just remember that this is one of the old types of Butcher shops, and the concentration is on the product. Check it out: Who couldn't use a break on prices with quality meats and service?

Yelp
My family owned Basics which was right next door to Lord Jeff's for years. I was wondering if anyone remembers this sweet Lil man who sold homemade BBQ sauce. He called it speedys BBQ sauce and it was without a doubt the best my family and I have ever tasted. I'm trying to find the guy to see if maybe he'd like to sell me a case of it. I'm Paul's daughter Julie. Figured my Dad would appreciate it as a gift because he's really nostalgic as am I and seeing as he's in poor health making him happy has become my main goal in life. Anyways if anyone knows anything please let me know via email at jcelona297@gmail.com. Thanks a bunch Julie Stone/Celona

Yelp
looking for smoked sausage my mother bought from this store in 1990, they were the very best sausage. The family bought them by the boxes they are good for sandwiches, breakfast and all other dishes made from cabbage and sausage collard greens you name it.

Yelp
This place is GREAT... 1st the customer service is outstanding f from the cash register to the meat cutters the people you will find very warm and friendly. To open so early and sometimes have to cut meat c I continuously and show no signs of weariness, or slack in the friendliness because of this. They cater very well to your special orders, trying to please each customer. Most times if you pre-order they have it ready and right when you arrive. prices are cheaper than most stores and it cut to.your specs. What more can I say. I am there at least once a week to get my fresh cut thin slice bacon and my meat for Sunday till Wednesday dinner then I go.back. I don't mind because I like fresh and Lord n Jeff is the way to go.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, with low price meats. I bought 10lbs of leg quarters for $10 and about 5lbs of oxtail for $25. They also give out free calendars!

Yelp
What a discovery! This place is hidden in plain sight, but until I saw reviews on here I would have never dared to try to go inside - it looks like a warehouse like all the other warehouses in the area, but its like a Narnia of meat. And, like those little idiots in the story, I has no idea how anything in there worked but I started making an a** of myself immediately. There's a counter at the very back with a line that never seemed to ease up. Ooop, better stand in the line now and figure out what I want! There are many employees behind the counter dealing very professionally and swiftly with huge slabs of meat. Finally it's my turn. I ask for 4 pounds of brisket...nope. They sell the whole brisket only, and it's over near where I started the line. OK, how about Smithfield ham? Also over by the beginning of the line and also only sold as a whole piece. He came out from behind the counter to show me. He assured me that everything else can be sold by the pound. I was so embarrassed at my lack of preparation, I missed the bacon counter. He was very nice though, and saved any eye rolls until I could''t see them. Next time I need by 10 pound bags of meat of any sort, this place is close by and CHEAP! Lots of spices/cooking oils/etc as well.

Yelp
I stopped buying meat at the local Supermarket years ago! They have great quality meat here! my mom used to come here when we were little now I see why though. You pick your meat and tell them what cut you want and how much you want and your literally in and out in about 20minutes. They have a wide selection of spices and different cut of deli cheese. In the frozen section they have Jimmy Deans breakfast patties, meat balls , chicken patties, frozen burgers patties and more. Great place to get your meat for family BBQ, restaurant business. Or just to have it at home . This place can easily be missed and mistaken for a meat warehouse and not opened to public . Enter at own risk type

Yelp
I love Lord Jeff's Beef Place but unfortunately I've moved to Randolph, MA so getting there is a chore. But to be honest it is TOTALLY worth it. You get soooo much quality meat for a low price, love it love it love it! My favorite is their ox tails. I think I'm going to stop by there to get some for Thanksgiving....WOOHOO!!!

Yelp
I would like to start by giving myself some credit. It took me 4 drive by peeks at the store front last Saturday morning before i mustered up the courage to park the car (club secured to the steering wheel and radio faceplate locked in the glove box) and walk into this place, but i eventually did. It was no easy task, but seeing the large clear plastic bags full of anywhere from 5-20lbs of miscellaneous meat in the hands of exiting patrons assured me i was definitely in the right place. I knew i would find the 10+ lb beef brisket i set out to procure. The store front in on a loading dock in the industrial restaurant supply area that is New Market Square and seems unfriendly, but actually has a nice sense of community inside between the employees and regular customers. The outside is dirty, run down, and despite meat being the predominant item for sale, it doesn't say butcher shop or Lots of meat over here! anywhere on the outside. If it wasn't for Brian D. bellow providing the reassurance that they do in fact sell animal parts (not human kidneys and hearts or something) i never would have gone inside. Although I'm sure they do sell kidneys and hearts, they just probably come from animals. Anyway, freshly cut slab bacon seemed to me the most popular item in the place as it had it's own dedicated line. It looked meaty and well cured and delicious, but i had bigger plans in mind so i headed for the back counter. I spoke with one of the butchers right after he sliced up 50 pounds of pork chops for the women in front of me, and although he wasn't sure at first, after a few minutes of digging through stacks of beef, pork and chicken pieces he emerged from the big refrigerator with an absolute MONSTER of a piece of meat. It was 11 pounds and $30. I bought it. I'll be cooking it at a family reunion this weekend. The last brisket i bought was from stop and shop and it was 4lbs and $24. WHAT A DEAL!?! Next time i need weird and extremely large quantities of meat, i will be back! Oh and the butchers made meat jokes with me! (best part!)

Yelp
FTR FTR FTR FTR FTR That means FIRST TO REVIEW!! Lord Jeff's is nestled deep in the bowels of what could easily be misconceived as one of the filthiest places in the entire city, New Market Square. Never heard of New Market Square? There's a pretty sign for New Market right at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, which is rightfully considered a really fucking scary spot (junkies, hookers, the homeless, guys that clean your windshield with newspaper and spit, etc). Anyway, go past this crap and take a left after Victoria's Diner and go down into the warehouse district and you are in the meat packing and produce distribution heart of Boston. Look for the crappy parking lot and you will see a little sign that reads 'Retail Hours, Lord Jeff's'. Park your car, ignore the filth, watch your step and walk inside. Pretty unimpressive, seriously it looks like a crappy store at first. But walk to the back, walk up the deli counter. Ignore the cheap prices for domestic ham and American cheese and look at the signs on the wall, goat by the pound, brisket, vast arrays of every make, model and year of sausage and chicken parts as far as the eye can see. And they are helpful. Looking for a lamb shoulder? Ask. Looking for chicken hearts? Ask. Don't be afraid. These guys know meat and want to sell it to you. This is where real people who refuse to buy the crappy meats at Stop and Shop come to stock up.

Yelp
An excellent selection of meats, and poultry. Good Customer Service. They also open early 6:30 AM which is perfect for an early bird like me. They close at 3:p daily except 12:00 on Sunday's.

Yelp
Great bang for your buck! I agree with the other reviewers, the entrance/ road leading to the place is not very commercial/visually noticeable, but once inside, you immediately get a sense of community. The workers are down to earth and their mission is to help you- super friendly staff. You feel good after shopping here knowing you've helped support a local business and not to mention get great deals on all sorts of cuts of meats to your liking. I like their pork belly here and they cut it to how I like it.

Yelp
"NEXT!" "Chicken necks?" I came here on a lark, between brunch in Chinatown and a later BBQ that I'd promised to bring burgers for. It's not exactly beautiful decor inside, but certainly clean and fairly easy to find anything you want in there. Anyway, I bought 20 burger patties, 8 hotdogs, and buns/rolls for $17. I think that's a pretty decent deal. Looked like they had a good supply of bulk size sauces and condiments as well. Also a lot of cheap meat entrails/byproducts/etc if you're into that sort of thing. So, I hail thee, Lord Jeff, I'd definitely return if I had a need for large quantities of meat.
