Ok, me writing a review of The Lorelei Inn is kind of like asking a kid if they like candy and puppies. I pretty much live at The Lorelei, going there on an average of two times per week. Let me tell you why.
The Lorelei is a neighborhood kind of place, yes, my neighborhood, which serves traditional, family recipe, German dishes. They also have a variety of other super club type fair, of which my favorite is either the tenderloin or bone-in ribeye, I can't decide. I guess it depends on my healthy mindset the day of dinning. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of "super club", all I can say is, come to Wisconsin and discover what has been the dining experience of choice, for many who have lived here for years. You can't explain it; you just have to experience it.
A couple other must have's on the menu have to be getting a dumpling on the side. Better yet, have two, I always do. These snowballs of heaven are served with German ginger snap gravy which will no doubt make you lick the plate when you are done. The potato pancakes are also a great side to have with anything on the menu. I have to admit, I never order them because I love the dumplings way too much, however, my dining partner always gets the pancakes and I know I can steal some when she is not looking. I hope she's not reading this...
The German dishes are terrific. I usually get the Wiener Schnitzel or the Heisse Schlachte Plate, depending on my hunger. The Heisse Schlachte Plate is a ton of food, so make sure you have room for this one. The Wiener Schnitzel comes in two sizes, queen and king, which is basically one or two pieces of veal cuts. Load it up with some sauerkraut and yes, ask for some extra gingersnap gravy to pour over the whole thing. Don't forget to get a side of their red cabbage. This stuff is better than candy and dare i say, puppies too.
Lastly, it's important to comment on the whole vibe of this place. It's warm and cozy and feels like home (at least to me). It is a bit smoky for some, but its all part of the charm. The Lorelei has one of the best beer menus in Green Bay and pours the BEST Guinness around (Sorry St. Brenden's). The cocktails here are some of the best mixed around by some of the best bartenders around.
This is my favorite place, hence my lengthy applause. If you go, and you should, look for me at the corner of the bar. I'll be the guy chain smoking and drinking gimlets.
