I really wanted to enjoy my time at Lorem Ipsum Listening Bar, but the experience ended up being pretty disappointing. The staff came across as more strict & passive than welcoming. At one point, my server actually asked if I could close out because I had “been there a long time”, even though I was still ordering and paying for drinks the entire time. That immediately killed the vibe.
Apparently there’s a 90 minute limit. It wasn’t clearly posted on the door, wasn’t explained when I was seated, and definitely wasn’t mentioned when I started ordering. Nonetheless, there’s a way to treat paying customers, especially when they’re actively supporting your business. Being rushed, watched, and nudged to close out made it feel transactional and uncomfortable instead of relaxed and welcoming. I genuinely try to support small and locally black owned businesses as a content creator, I share honest reviews with my followers so they know what to expect before spending their money, but when customers are spending money and still don’t feel welcomed or valued, it makes you think twice about returning. A little grace, clearer communication, and friendlier service would make a huge difference, but based on this visit, experiences like this make it really hard to want to come back. A little hospitality and better communication would go a long way.
