Very nice lady I just got a few small pieces of chocolate to eat and the quality was so good. Soon I’m going to order the toasted marshmallows and probably a couple other items from the website!

I visited Philly on 3/24/24 and did a tour which I learned that Lore’s Chocolate store has been family owned for many many years. I had to check it out. My partner and I could have bought out the whole store but tried to maintain control. LOL! We love chocolates. We got a customized box, caramels covered over marshmallow, and jelly beans. Everything we got was delish and well worth the calories! I would return every time I check out PA. I highly recommend anyone who likes sweets to try them out since they have a great selection and different options. 5 out 5 stars for the chocolates and the friendly service we received. Everyone was so lovely and such a pleasure.

Google
You need to go here - incredible! I got the coconut curry almonds which are such a beautiful yet subtle flavor, and the dark chocolate covered oreos which are proper dark flavor and have a good snap. Their prices are also very reasonable, way more affordable and better tasting than Shane Confectionary and certain shops in Reading Terminal. Super pretty store too. Ive lived in Philly for two years and its really hard to find the great places hiding among the overpriced-but-mid tourist spots, but this is definitely one I will return to for its quality. Employees super nice too.

Google
Lovely store. I found the seasonal easter eggs were cute. They have quite the selection too, not just chocolate. They offered a sample, and are known for their butter cream chocolates. Seemed like a mom/pop store. I found their chocolates however to be too sweet for my tastes. Even the dark chocolates were just simply too sweet. I would say its a more american style confectionary, if that is your thing youll like it here.

Google
I bought these for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and there were some challenges with delivery -- the owner was very friendly and avid in making sure everything was rectified. Really kind, extremely professional and my boyfriend LOVED it!

Google
Cute chocolate store, long-running family business, great customer service ☺ Saw it while running an errand in Washington Square and knew I had to return to collect a couple gifts for folks in my life. They said the chocolates were very tasty; happy to recommend to everyone else

Google
I love this chocolate shop. I got a box for my mom as a present and she ate them all in a day. I would definitely recommend for a gift or any holiday. Their irish potatoes are delicious as well as the chocolate easter eggs!

Google
Best chocolate/candy shop in the world! I’ve been a customer for over 40 years (first discovered their now-closed store in LBI) and the quality has always been the best.

Yelp
Lore's makes the most delicious chocolates in the region. I always stop by to get special gifts for my husband's birthday, or holiday time. I went in today, and was offered a sample of a chai caramel which was a wonderfully spiced caramel with milk chocolate coating. I picked up an all dark chocolate assortment, and then took advantage of the buy one get one free thanksgiving candy (it was yesterday). The employee who assisted me was lovely as well. Stop by and check out their beautiful holiday offerings.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Bought these as a gift. Delicious! Highly recommend. I stick with all dark chocolates because hello

Yelp
GENERAL Located by Jewelry Row, Lore's Chocolates offers an extensive selection of chocolates both classic and unique to the city of Philadelphia. They offer specially-shaped chocolates from the LOVE sign to the Liberty Bell nearby to rare finds such as Irish potatoes (cinnamon-dusted coconut balls) and truffles. Their classic selections from chocolate bars, caramels, and covered nuts are packaged beautifully on shelves, through I must admit $8.00 for 4 chocolate-covered caramels are quite the hefty price. FOOD I bought a milk chocolate bar, and it was a good pick-me-up for a rough week, though the sugar was overwhelming. At $6.95, it's something to try once, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. SERVICE The staff are kind and the moment I walked in, they offered me a sample of their Irish potato. They also assisted with any queries that I might have. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity.

Di S.

Yelp
Grabbed 8 bags of small Halloween candies (individually wrapped milk chocolate in pumpkin and ghost wrapping). Each bag had around 8-10 prices and was $5. Super cute! Also tried the mini-bars in milk chocolate and white chocolate.

Yelp
I have fallen in love with their Irish potatoes. The sign for them is what made me stop in. They had an impeccable variety, very cute souvenir type gifts (I.e. chocolate liberty bell), and fairly decent prices. The minimum on Apple Pay/Google is $10, just a warning. Lots and lots of options if you're ever in the mood for some quality chocolate.

Yelp
I haven't been here since pandemic and I was surprised with the transformation. There are no more tables displaying chocolate. There's a counter at the back displaying the chocolate. Sugar free section is on the right in a glass display. It looks more modern and brighter. Near the window you can find Liberty bell chocolate. There's only one employee, she's super friendly and helpful. A must visit for chocolate lovers
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I've been walking by Lore's Chocolates for a long time when I'm on my way to other establishments and have never really had a need or desire to stop in even though their front window displays are usually pretty nice and inviting. But recently a hand painted sign expressing that the Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Blueberries was posted, and since my daughter asked for some, it must've been kismet so I had to stop in. Glad I did. The store is filled top to bottom with many different chocolate candies and fruit snacks and other delectables. I believe the owner helped me out and she was quite friendly. The strawberries and blueberries are a seasonal product, and some come in milk or dark chocolate. The stand of pre-made boxes only had blueberries, but when I asked they were able to put together on the spot some strawberries. A half pound turned into a pound when I found out that there were only five or six strawberries per half pound. I also picked up some Boston fruit slices. Those I do not know if they were made in-house or brought in from elsewhere. When I got home, I was the best dad in the world. The blueberries are in a three or four-berry of chocolate and are cordial style with liquid inside. A gushy explosion of flavor. The strawberries were divine. A coworker of mine likes to purchase the butter creams every so often, and they are smooth and creamy. I've never had a bad one! The Boston fruit slices were also good, but Shane's are better. The pound of chocolate covered strawberries, half pound of chocolate covered blueberries and a pack of Boston fruit slices ran me about $60. It's a splurge I won't make often, but the taste will bring me back for more. The store had a steady stream of customers, and COVID masks and protocols were being followed. Everyone was happy and so was I.

Yelp
I had an overwhelmingly positive experience here today. The staff were so kind, patient, and generous. I bought a 1/2 lb boxes of mixed chocolates I thought the price was very reasonable for the quality and variety offered. Each chocolate I have tried has been delightful. I am sad that I walked by this place so many times without stopping in! I will be back many, many times.

Amelia O.

Yelp
chocolate was okay. so i really don't appreciate how they just filled it up with orange candies for like 9 when i asked for just 2. really don't appreciate spending so much on chocolate to just have them sneakily fill it with those. maybe it's the way i looked but they felt like they wanted to get rid of me and there was like 2 other people in the store.

Barbara R.

Yelp
First time I walked into Lores was probably 1980. Beautiful quaint little shop, with the most wonderful people there. I worked around the block and so logged numerous visits on my lunch hour, over the course of 23 years. While I no longer get to Phila much, I was glad to see I could still order my faves online. Their Christmas and Easter candy selections are wonderful in taste and presentation. Their 'break up' chunk white chocolate is my all time favorite. I never see it online, but I don't think they make it very often. Their caramels and the vanilla buttercreams are in a league of their own. no one else can compete against them. This candy store is the very best Philadelphia has to offer.

Yelp
I stopped by here by accident in the middle of a rain storm and picked up a single bar, figuring I'd try it out and see how things went. That dark chocolate bar is one of the best celebrations of dark chocolate I've had in a minute. I can't even eat the stuff from the grocery store anymore - I'm craving another bar from them. It's so well balanced, rounded, melt in the mouth. So good. I'll be back

Robert D.

Yelp
Delicious and fair pricing. Very friendly service. Will visit again on my next trip to Philly.

Julie P.

Yelp
Cute little local shop. I got the fresh chocolate-covered blueberries, which were delicious.

Yelp
If you're looking for high quality, delicious chocolates in Philadelphia, Lore's is your place. My mother-in-law has been giving us boxes of buttercreams for some time. Recently, she threw in a box of dark chocolate covered caramels sprinkled with sea salt. They are so fresh and so delicious! The store itself has all the nostalgia of an old school candy shop. I stopped by during the Christmas season to pick up a box of chocolates for my grandmom. Lore's is now my go-to for nice chocolates!

Allison S.

Yelp
Best choc store!!!!!! Owners were so amazing and kind and the chocolate is incredible.

Yelp
Everyone here is so nice and the chocolates were delicious. So many choices, you honestly won't have any trouble finding whatever you're looking for. It's also a cool place to bring visiting tourists for a cute activity.

Yelp
Happy Valentine's Day! And one of the best places anywhere to buy the chocolates you need to give your loved ones is this old traditional Philadelphia chocolate shop. This charming store is located right on the border of historic Philadelphia and Washington Square West and has a fine and tempting array of house-made chocolates ready for your perusal. And because March and St. Patty's Day is coming up soon they have even started to make the famous Philly candy tradition of Irish Potatoes. But for today, chocolate hearts are in order and Lore's has as good a variety as anywhere of this confection. And when you shop at Lore's, you are shopping in an independent old-time Philly chocolate store. Happy Valentine's Day!

K D.

Yelp
We took horse drawn carriage from Liberty Bell and passed Lores. Had to get some of that famous chocolate. It was absolutely delicious and we highly recommend getting an assorted box.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
From as far back as I could remember, my grandmother would buy her grandchildren the most amazing peanut butter chocolate bunnies from Lore's for Easter. When I finally made it to this store, I was so impressed by all of the candies that they had. Seriously, candy everywhere! The candy molds were so impressive too. A ton of creative concepts, including Philadelphia candy. Liberty bells and the LOVE sign. Now when I go to the store, I know exactly what I am getting. Usually truffles, but I still walk around the entire store to look at everything. The staff are always so friendly. Consistently the best candy I can get in the area.
google avatar

Tina K.

Yelp
After tasting almost all of the assorted dark chocolates in my half-pound box, two of the "fancy" truffles, and dark chocolate rum cordials, I have concluded that Lore's chocolates are often too sweet for me even though everything I tasted except for a truffle was all dark. The assorted bonbons are hit-or-miss for me. Below is what I would rate them on a scale from 0 (inedible) to 5 (exceptional): Dark cashew caramel: 4 Dark with chocolate buttercream: 2.5 Dark with vanilla buttercream: 2.5 Dark with raspberry jelly: 3 Dark with raisin: 2 (too much chocolate) Dark with molasses: 4 Figaro (hazelnut chocolate): 2.5 Dark cherry cordial: 2 Dark chewy caramel with flour de sel: 2.5 Dark truffle with dark chocolate drizzle (dark chocolate ganache): 4 Milk truffle with white chocolate drizzle (coffee ganache): 4.5 Dark chocolate rum cordials: 3 Regardless of pricing, I would say Lore's chocolates are 3 stars out of 5. However, taking into account that they're way more affordable than other parlors (ehm... Teuscher), the chocolates are 3.5/5. Presentation-wise, Lore's chocolates are somewhat sloppy. Since I make chocolates as a hobby, I am very serious when it comes to chocolates. One of my pet peeves is chocolates with cavities, and Lore's sells many of them. Yes, it takes a lot more time if you try to get rid of each air bubble from the chocolate, but that's what distinguishes different brands of chocolates in my opinion--the quality control. While Lore's chocolates only deserve three stars, the friendly service boosted my rating to four stars. The lady who helped me box my bonbons was patient. When she didn't have answers to my questions regarding specific chocolates, she told me honestly that she had never tried them and would ask her colleagues if they knew more about the chocolates. She was also eager to help other customers who just walked in. Because I checked in on my Yelp mobile app, I received a free chocolate bar. Free things are awesome, so that's another reason to like Lore's. In summary, if you're not too picky about chocolates and want something affordable, Lore's is a great place to go. I definitely will come back to try some Irish potatoes and Easter-themed chocolates!

Yelp
Last week a friend from Philly gave me a gift box of handmade chocolates from Lore's Chocolates. I can't remember the last time I tasted chocolates so good! The assortment contained a great variety of combinations: milk & dark chocolates, caramel, toffee, nuts & fruit, peanut butter, coconut, etc. - something for everyone. Thank you, Emily, for such a tasty gift. I wish I lived closer. Do they deliver to Boston?? And the fact that it's a family owned business for over 50 yrs checks all the boxes Two thumbs up!

Yelp
Wow, I'm surprised to see only 78 reviews here. It may be because they hand out card to review them on Trip Advisors. We never knew this store was here. Right down the street from Jewelers' row. We like the chocolate. It's may not be for everyone, but they have tons of variety, and this summer they had blueberry and strawberry covered choices. Loved their malt balls, the chocolate is about 3 thichnesses. Melts in your mouth. Good thing I don't get down to Center City often. Their employees were very friendly-
google avatar

Diana X.

Yelp
A plentiful, but over-priced (for what you get/expect), selection of chocolates. The people who worked here were super friendly and helpful, but we only purchased a few pieces because everything was expensive (especially the gift bags - clearly a place for tourists too). We were glad to try it and were happy with what we got.
google avatar

Wesley L.

Yelp
Lore's is one of those solid mid-range chocolatiers that you should support because the chocolates are good, they are a local, family-owned business, and they represent a Philly tradition. Here are my top picks: -Dark orange peel -Coconut kiss -Dark sponge -Grahams -Almond butter crunch -Dark toffee -Dark coconut cream -Salted dark caramel
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't think I could love Lore's chocolate any more than I do but because of awesome individuals like Maureen and Tony, I do. I tried sending my mother who is enduring chemotherapy some toffee but had problems with their online ordering system. Lore's was closed since it was the day after Easter but Tony responded to my email and Maureen called me the next day and took care of the problem with the utmost courtesy and compassion. I can't thank them enough for the great care with which they handled the situation. Thank you from a customer for life!

Frank L.

Yelp
I was just sent a gift package by a colleague of Lore's dark chocolate marshmallows, sea salt caramels (also dark chocolate) as well as dark and milk chocolate covered pretzels. I have to say that this is the place you want to order a gift from! I was very impressed as each box was beautifully packaged in a very nice looking box which immediately lets you know this isn't just another chocolate shop. The marshmallows were thick squares packaged in a way that made me gasp when I opened them! Most importantly, this was probably the best chocolate I have ever tasted, really smooth and tasty, the dark chocolate wasn't too dark but just right. Do yourself a favor and make your life easier, send / bring a box or 3 of these next time you need to send a gift or thank you and need to do it right.
google avatar

Gwendolyn P.

Yelp
What an amazing find in Old City. The perfect place to come if you need to bring someone a Philadelphia souvenir or need a gift for someone celebrating a special occasion! Every type of chocolate you can imagine but also typical sugar candies like sour patch kids etc. Fran helped us to pick out the perfect gifts. She was very friendly and a pleasure to talk to! We will be back.

Laura M.

Yelp
Best Chocolate anywhere. Ordered online, came a day later. Couldn't be happier. Love Lore's!
google avatar

Tammie R.

Yelp
I am very impressed with how much choclate this little shop holds. There are all types of chocolate; the more I looked the more I wanted to buy. They even have choclate Liberty Bells and Sunflower pops. I checked in Yelp to get a free candy bar but they told me they don't do that any more but allow you to pick 4 pieces of choclate from any of the tables. Boy was it hard to pick four! So many variations of chocolate candy...a true Yelp treat indeed better than I imagine a candy bar would be. We purchased 1/2 pound of chocolates (17 pieces) for $13 something. Everything was delicious.
google avatar

Erica Z.

Yelp
I love this old fashioned chocolate shop. Unfortunately it is right near my bus stop. I've missed quite a few buses while I pick out an assortment of my favorites. They have so many types that it is quite a task to limit yourself. The box I assembled recently was buttercrunch(milk covered butter toffee with nuts) milk chocolate peanut butter, dark chocolate marshmallow, dark mint drops, ginger dark chocolate and two kinds of bark. If that list doesn't make your mouth water there are endless others. The young lady who helped me was lovely and appreciated my difficulty in choosing. Somehow they manage to balance the classic chocolates with some new creations without getting too trendy and weird. Okay you can tell I'm a hopeless addict.

Neila D.

Yelp
This review is for the disappointing service rather than the products. I arrived shortly before the 11 am opening and when the door was unlocked I mentioned my early arrival and the tall young man who opened the door immediately made a rude and sarcastic comment to me. I was so shocked and shaken that I left. I've had pleasant experiences in this establishment before but I will never return.
google avatar

Sophy S.

Yelp
Very yummy chocolates!!! I love their oval shape dark chocolates. The marshmallow ones are too sweet for us.
google avatar

Angel C.

Yelp
Great chocolate! I always pass this shop on my way home and I finally decided to try it. It's great knowing that there's a wonderful chocolate place right near my job. The chocolates are incredibly rich and beautifully crafted! I would recommend to all my chocolate lovers!
google avatar

Smrithi D.

Yelp
Vanilla latte and a chocolate Croissant for less than $5! Can't beat that. I love the personality of this little shop, quaint and convenient. The barista was lovely and attentive. I hope to be a regular since it's so close to my office. Try the Almond or chocolate croissant- fresh, flakey and delicious!
google avatar

E W.

Yelp
Get the small bag of varieties. You can fill it up by your own choice of different flavors. Their Pre-package chocolates make good gift options.

Linda G.

Yelp
I Love Lore's Chocolates! I shop at Lore's for all my holiday chocolates. The service is friendly and informative. However, I have noticed one thing that gives me pause....and that is, whenver there are small giv-away items, I always have to ask. I'm not offered as I see other customers before me, and I'm not sure of the reason. For instance today, for Mother's Day, sales people at the register asked each patron if they wanted a card to go with their item. I purchased $90.00 worth of chocolates and was never offered a card. Only upon asking did I receive a card. I think each patron should be given the opportunity, so no one goes away with a feeling of being under-appreciated. I'm still giving a rating of 5 stars because, I Love Lore's Chocolates!
google avatar

Saba S.

Yelp
This place is a treasure. I used to work across the street and would go buy my piece of chocolate for the day. I even had the chance to visit their factory, and I was very impressed by the traditional way they still operate. The store is always very clean and there is a lot of choices, from chocolate to candy, they make it all. If you live in Philly, this should be your go to place for gifts, They've in business for years and believe me, there is no stale taste to this great chocolate. They even make some sugar free. Go try it.
google avatar

Autumn E.

Yelp
This is two stars instead of one because I'm willing to accept that you are having a busy day that causes you to be short with people. 2 stars for service, because it was so bad I never even made it to your shop. I was expecting greatness from you, Lore's, based on your reviews and your website. Your website boasts confectionery supplies, so I thought I'd give you a call and see if this is the place to get my stuff for my Valentine's night in with my boyfriend. "I'm calling about confectionery supplies." The woman responded, "Okay, well could you call on a day that's not Valentine's Day and then I could help you? Because this is a chocolate shop, and we have a huge line, and it's very inconvenient for a call to be made about a non-Valentine order." I tried to stop her early there, because she was quickly losing a customer. But she talked over me. "Okay, I understand, but I'm calling because I want to travel to your shop to buy something but I need to make sure you actually sell it. Your website says you have confectionery supplies, is this right?" "What kind of confectionery supplies?" "Lollipop sticks, candy-coating or white chocolate discs, and molds?" "No, we don't have those, I think you should try somewhere like A.C. Moore or whatever that other place is instead." "Okay, thank you, happy val-" *click* Forril? I hate your website for saying you have chocolate molds and lollipop supplies and chocolate discs. Or I hate the crabby mood you have on the best day of the year. I understand and sympathize, though. But it will be a while before I bother to even attempt you again.

Yelp
Lore's is a fun little neighborhood chocolate store. The store has been around for a while, and the set-up is pretty retro - the chocolate is laid out on various tables in the back (rather than in glass cases). There are usually free samples, so I think it's worth it just for that (I'm a sucker for free samples. Whole Foods is like my own personal paradise for this reason. Ever see that Simpsons episode where they have brunch by eating all the free samples at Whole Foods? That's me). Seriously though, I've gotten kind of snooty about my chocolate over the years, and Lore's does a great job with traditional milk chocolate stuff. However, their absolute #1 super-amazing item has to be the fresh chocolate covered blueberries that they sell during the summer. Seriously, these are mind-blowing. Due to crazy demand, they only sell them on certain days of the week, and only during peak blueberry season. I highly recommend checking them out - you can call and find out when they'll be available next.
google avatar

Ettya F.

Yelp
Lore's is the coolest chocolate shop I've had the pleasure of visiting in the last 100 years. You see, my friends, I have a particular affinity for the good old days...when chocolates were made in house and displayed on large tables under glass plates....when chocolate shop owners were so personable such that you might confuse them with your own grandparents...when non-pareils were the norm. And the chocolate from Lore's just sort of melts...in your mouth...in your hands...on your carpet...but you see, it doesn't matter, because everything from this beautiful store that harkens back to the days of the soda fountain jerk, Fireside Chats, and Howie Cossell, is absolutely wonderful. If you're feeling sophisticated, try a box of the European collection, or one of the many rum or liquor filled concoctions. If you're feeling playful, go ahead and purchase that Triceratops milk chocolate dinosaur, and win the love of any man (or boy) in your life. If you're feeling nutty, the loaded milks, darks and whites with almonds, pecans, walnuts, fruits, or whatever else will please.
google avatar

Minh C.

Yelp
I read in a weekly yelp that Lore's has great chai, so I made it a special project to get down here since it's not opened during the weekends and closes at 5 on the week days. Unfortunately, I did not feel like the chai was worth the effort. Perhaps the other drinks here are better? This is also cash only (one of my pet peeves)! And no wifi!
google avatar

anne l.

Yelp
The absolutely most delicious chocolate items i've ever had. High props to the chocolate covered graham crackers. Malted milk balls and chocolate covered pretzels are good too. As the other reviewers said, the place has a sweet old-fashioned vibe. Just noticed that they now do birthday parties in the chocolate factory - definitely going to check that out!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
I walk to work, so my coffee stop is, out of necessity, very strategic.... If I get coffee to early in the walk, then I have to carry the cup, along with my bags, and if it's raining - an umbrella, AND keep a hand free to fiddle with my phone or iPod, all at the same time, which is nearly impossible. Lore's is 2 blocks from the office, so the perfect location to duck in to pickup a quick latte and shuffle the iPod one last time, before I complete the walk to my desk. It helps that the staff is friendly and, at times, laugh out-loud funny (I would dearly love to have a day-in-the-life, these girls - and they're all girls - have the best stories). AND they remember what I like. I don't even have to say anything anymore. I walk in and snap....skim milk is being steamed for my latte. Lore's brews La Colombe, the prices are very reasonable, and my drink is always excellent. I can get a medium skim latte and a croissant for $4.75...which is a steal in my book, and the croissants are rather lovely...I'm a bit particular about my croissants and these are quite tasty. This is strictly a walk-in, walk-out place. If you don't mind being crammed between non-coffee beverages and the creamer you can sit at one of the two stools in the window, but it's not ideal. If you really want to sit, I'd just walk down the block to Washington Square.
google avatar

Aron G.

Yelp
I love Lore's! I just started working in Center City, and was tired of fighting the lines at Starbucks and Dunkin, for second-rate coffee. I was wandering around and found this little gem about a block from my office. La Colombe coffee for $1 if you bring your own reusable mug. Need I say more?
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
Updating my review since the new owners acquired the business: the customer service is lacking. Although you can easily know that the server was drunk last night as she shares this confession in a volume that can be heard at the door. I have not been greeted with a "hello" even though I stop in 3 times a week; never a recognition nor any small talk. The $1.00 refill in your own cup and decent coffee is the reason I return - at the moment.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
I stop in every time I'm in Philly. Baristas are friendly, coffee is excellent,a nd they have a good selection of tasty fresh baked goods. It's much preferable to get my La Colombe fix from these friendly folks than at certain other places, where the baristas seem to be annoyed that you came in.
google avatar

Steve I.

Yelp
This is my go to place for chocolates for over 25 years, the staff has been around for longer than that. Enjoyed the free chocolate bar when I checked in, but they always have some free samples to enjoy. The small shop can get crowded during the holidays so get there early to avoid a long wait.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
If I could give this no stars I would. The personality of the barista I had was horrible. I know it was early in the morning, but the attitude was just unacceptable. I ordered a hot chocolate and a cappuccino. When I asked her questions about the drinks she acted like I should've known. She kept rolling her eyes right in front of my face... It's not like my order was complicated and long. She definitely shouldn't be working in a service based industry with her poor attitude. With that being said.... I definitely will not be going back!

Yelp
I've been shopping here for years for special occasions, and their chocolate is wonderful. I'm writing this review today because of their excellent customer service. When I was in today, there was an issue with the price that rang up. They took care of it in the moment, but when I followed up later to check on something, I received a kind response via a phone call right away. They really care that their customers have a good experience.
