Such beautiful and delicious delicate dishes—the perfect way to start a lively day! The girls in the restaurant were busy but full of warm hospitality, and the prices were very reasonable. Every small dish was delightful, and a few were so incredibly tasty that just looking at the photos now brings back the flavors. I miss it so much

The food is delicious and nicely presented. I would’ve given this a five star rating had it not been for the awful ventilation. Our table was on the second floor where all the cooking fume accumulated. The air smelled of those seafront fish and chips shops Greasy and fishy. We asked for the AC to be turned on but I guess the weather was not hot enough for the machine to work. The shop could have opened the windows to air out the deep dried scent that got into our hair and clothes. It was simply too much and ruined the whole experience.

I visited 9:30 AM on a weekday. I was seated at the bar table after a short wait. I ordered Ichiju Gosai (JPY 2310) and it took about 15 minutes. The food looks beautiful. They also provided an English information card showing what each side dish are. The grilled fish was great, and I also liked the black sesame tofu and the pumpkin salad. The rice seemed a bit overcooked - it was a bit mushy and the bottom was slightly charred.

Google
Such a lovely place for lunch. The set menus have a variety of tastes and dishes, in a relaxed and lighter format. It feels local and contemporary. If I lived in Kyoto I'd probably eat here once a week. A great choice if you want something informal, lighter (lots of vegetables and no fried food) and without taking too much time.

Very sumptuous breakfast served here! Love their pumpkin salad with cream cheese and their seasonal sashimi. Very nice ambience with open kitchen concept. A Quiet restaurant to enjoy your breakfast!

Google
Seated @ 2 pm for lunch. Beautiful smoky miso. Thoughtful, jazzy, delightful presentation. Perfectly cooked salmon. Pleasant atmosphere. The ladies in this joint really put it together! 'Would come back again definitely!

Google
Make reservations. We came here with a party of 4 and we had wait because of all the people with reservations that were ahead of us. No worries for us. Food was excellent. Presentation was awesome. So pretty on the plate. The place is cute and have places to hang your purse/jacket if you are seated at the bar.

Google
There were already two people ahead of me before 7.30am. Found if on Google for Japanese breakfast. It was amazing. The fish was grilled perfectly and the side dishes were just absolutely delicious. I think if you came much later you would probably need reservations.

Yelp
This place is super small so make reservations. It was our first time coming and had to wait due to all the reservations they had. It was considered a holiday but it was still open which was nice. They have places to hang your purse/jacket if you are seated at the bar. The food was delicious. So pretty on the plate. I wasn't sure if I'd be full but I definitely was.

Yelp
We showed up early shortly after they had opened and managed to grab a table by the door. I live on the west coast so didn't know anything about their sister restaurant Okonomi in NY (and I'm glad I didn't before coming in). We first tried going to Lorimer Jr but was disappointed that they were closed on the day we went, so we came to this location on a separate day since this was closer to our hotel. The interior was minimalistic but cozy with a lot of natural lighting as well as wooden fixtures. Our service was friendly and quick. We each settled for the mid-tier breakfast set which came with 5 sides and paid extra for their buttered corn rice as well as pickled tuna bowl. I found each of the side dishes flavorful and delightfully unique. One of my favorites was the kabocha pumpkin salad mixed with cream cheese - sweet and creamy! My next favorite has got to be their black sesame tofu - so savory and umami. Other sides were pickled cabbage, burdock, and silken egg tofu. The miso soup came loaded with veggies and mushrooms. It was a satisfying meal! The price tag is definitely on the more expensive side compared to other breakfast offerings. Considering that not many places are open for breakfast, I'm just stoked that Lorimer is an option for breakfast. I would definitely still come back for another visit!

Yelp
I live down the street from the sister restaurant Okonomi in NYC so I wanted to see what the hype was about. We came at 10:30am I believe and there was already an hour wait. We put our name down and tourer the neighboring temple to pass the time. The presentation of the food was beautiful and appeared to be on the more upscale said. We ordered: - 7 sides dish - 5 sides + sashimi - corn rice - fish onirigi In my opinion, I felt that the food was a bit under seasoned and a lot of it tasted rather bland. Perhaps it's my western palate but I felt there was a lot more potential to the ingredients that didn't get realized. The fish was dry on the end that was the tail piece. I saw that other cuts were fully belly pieces so I imagine those were more tender. The sides were tastier as they had more salt in them. The sashimi was pretty average. They also give you a small crepe cake dessert for filling out a review. I was excited to tell the staff that I live by Okonomi but they didn't seem that friendly or open to talking. Anyways, the breakfast was quite expensive and in my opinion you can get a way better meal anywhere else for this price point. I wouldn't come again.

Yelp
While in Kyoto, my husband came across mention of Lorimer and wanted to try it. I reminded him that we were already familiar with Yuji Haraguchi's style of cooking because of Brooklyn's Okonomi. He still wanted to check it out so off we went. Over all we had a lovely meal exactly as I expected. However, it's my opinion that given the variety of local options, I would have rather gone to a local restaurant that I wouldn't have been able to experience in the US. Lorimer's menu was extremely similar to that which we had at Okonomi and so I didn't feel it was worth the price when we could have had equally good or better meal for cheaper while in Tokyo. In conclusion, I'd say, if you've never dined at Okonomi in Brooklyn and don't think you'll be in NY in the near future, then this is worth a visit. But if you are from NY and you're already familiar with Okonomi in Brooklyn, skip it.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Traditional Japanese with fresh ingredients. Butter corn rice was very tasty but proved very filling.

Yelp
I liked: Fish of the day w/ soy sauce + Pickled Tuna bowl Fish of the day w/ salt This was ok: + fish onigiri Lil Bougie Japanese Breakfast that had 5 sides of black sesame tofu, pickled veggies, roast veggies, bacon, & sprouts. We preferred the Mackerel torched with soy sauce over salt but both were good. While it doesn't look like a lot of #goodeats I was full by the end This was a 15 minute walk from Kyoto station and in a nice quaint bar where you can watch the chef prepare each meal.

Yelp
Trendy space in a cute neighborhood to get Japanese breakfast. They were sold out of sashimi so we had limited options, but the food was amazing nonetheless! Didn't have a similar experience to other reviewers who said they couldn't get in--we walked in on a Thursday morning around 10:30 am and we were the only people there. That said, it got busier around 11:30 am but there was still no one waiting. Had the option of salt or soy sauce for the fish. I opted for sauce and my bf got salt. I would recommend salt as the sauce option was a bit too dry for my liking.

Yelp
It worth making a reservation, otherwise try arrive before 8 AM. Food is delicious and we enjoyed everyone bite.

Yelp
This a small trendy/hip type diner vs traditional. There is an upstairs area. We ordered 2 sets of ICHIJU GOSAI NIUO - 1 miso - 5 side dishes - 2 sashimi - Fish of the day Each set supposedly came with miso but we only had 1 bowl - perhaps the table was small so they put both soups in 1 bowl? Food had so many interesting flavors, but portions were small, and I was still hungry afterwards and wishing for more protein. We ordered onsen eggs (soft boiled) and boiled crab, however they were sold out already by 10am this morning. I did wish they served tea, even basic green tea or black coffee. Most of the patrons were tourists when I went, so if you are looking for a quiet breakfast, the other rude travelers might disturb you with loud conversation, etc. (This is not the fault of the restaurant as it has high traffic and good reviews.) Very tourist friendly service, accommodating even if you do not have a rsvp, and staff is helpful even if Japanese is not your first language.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite places in Kyoto - the food is so fresh and flavorful and they do an elevated take on a traditional Japanese Breakfast. The space is modern and inviting, and the plating is also super aesthetic I wish I could go back!

Yelp
If you're looking for a fresh Japanese breakfast this is the place. We didn't make a reservation and got seated at the bar immediately. The two women working there were so kind and friendly. The presentation of the food is beautiful and we felt very satisfied after but not too full which was great.

Yelp
This is quite possibly my new favorite restaurant ever. Everything was fresh, delicious, and delicately crafted at the bar side kitchen. The service is amazing - the perfect way to spend breakfast!! Really, oishi is all I (and the people eating next to us) can say

Yelp
PHENOMENAL FOOD & SERVICE! They also have a NYC branch. The food here is so fresh and I absolutely loved the sashimi here. The inner decor is bright and minimalistic. 10/10 will come again. This place is definitely a must when you are in town. They also offer a sushi/sashimi class here in case you ever want to learn how to prepare a fish for sushi!

Yelp
Great place to eat. Was there a few weeks ago had the breakfast set. Sit at the bar if you can so you can see your food and others food prepared right infront of you. It was delicious and fresh incredible care was done on preparation and thought through to how the flavors work together

Yelp
Very delicious! The quality of ingredients really comes through in all the dishes. This place is very cozy and the staff is very friendly.

Yelp
Such a cute place!!! Seating is limited so you may have a wait. So to order, you pick a type of fish and it comes with 5 sides. I picked the lemon and dill seasoned red snapper and it was delicious. All of the sides complimented it well. Fish was nice and fresh and skin was crunchy. Miso soup has two types of mushrooms and tofu. When your food is served they explain what everything is. Pricing is fair for the quality of food you're getting.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for the knife sharpening class/ shashimi preparation. Paul was the chef working with us. He was so great so we decided to come back for breakfast. We did not regret it. The presentation is probably the best I have seen. So much attention to detail. The food was just the best. What a great way to experience a traditional breakfast, and everything was so fresh. The service was wonderful of course. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
We randomly came upon this space for breakfast walking towards a coffee shop nearby and happily discovered it was related to the Okonomi japanese spot I've visited in the past in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and had similar prices (around ~$15 per person). The interior had a similar, clean aesthetic and home-y table setting presentation. Servers/cookers were all friendly and English-speaking and easy to communicate with. There were two food options available (smaller and larger portions) with two fish options. We chose the smaller portions, one with a red fish and the other a white. Food presentation was simple yet elegant. It was served with miso soup and a side of rice. The main plate was presented with small dollops of fish, multiple types of pickled veggies, and other Japanese breakfast delicacies. A great first experience!

Yelp
The breakfast sets were great, but the most memorable was how great the rice tasted. Is it the water or do they add salt/seasoning? So good...

Yelp
The overall atmosphere of this play is cozy and bright. The quiet jazz playing overhead created such a warm environment. We were promptly seated and waited on by a woman who spoke English very well, who ensured several times while ordering that she had our order correct as English was not her first language. The food was brought out by the waitress and the chef, and the chef then briefly explained to my group what each thing was on our plate and how it was made. The food was outstanding- you could taste how fresh everything was. The staff takes pride in what they do here, and it shows through the food they put in front of you.

Yelp
Excellent dining experience for me and my 2 friends. We were kindly greeted at the door and seated upstairs in a cute and cozy area. The waitress spoke great English (which is a bonus) and was very informative. The food was excellent and we cleared our plates! Highlights were the fish and the black bean tea. MUST TRY!

Yelp
Due to jetlag, I was looking for an early breakfast. Lorimer was a block away from where we were staying, and it was a very pleasant surprise! One of the employees spoke English (turns out this restaurant originally was from Brooklyn, NY) and we ordered the traditional Japanese breakfast, with the option of various fish of the day (some sashimi, yellowtail, and seabass). The employees were very friendly and the breakfast was fantastic! We had a large group so we all ordered something different, and everyone really enjoyed the food and the experience. We probably would have eaten here again if we had stayed in Kyoto longer.

Yelp
the food quality for the brunch was excellent ! the chef and the waitress were keen to take care of you for a good brunch.
