Where To Gossip In Philly, According To Kelsey McKinney

"Lorraine is a perfect dive bar. It's cash only. It's very close to the museums and the Met, which is a great place to see music. It's everything you want in a dive bar. They have a nice long tap list. Nobody's going to bother you. They have a big outdoor area. It's chill vibes in there. It's a neighborhood bar. So if you don't live in that neighborhood, it's a great place to take your gossip because no one cares what you're talking about." - brennan carley

The Best Long Island Iced Teas In Philly

"If we were Long Island Iced Tea sommeliers, we would ramble about the Coca-Cola notes really jumping out in this one. The Spring Garden bar makes a super fizzy version thanks to the soda, but it’s not overly sweet. The glow-in-the-dark painted space also has Bruce Lee art on the wall—hopefully, this helps that guy from Atlantis. " - candis mclean

Quality neighborhood dive w my type of vibe. Good selection of craft beer & cider and stocked bar. It was a nice evening so I sat on the back patio. Cash is king!

Google
This is a philly phuckin' dive my guy. $20 cars minimum. ATM on premises. I've never been before last night but I went with people who have been coming for years. The bartender wasn't taking no shit but hey, I'm a yapper lmao. If they do food here, the regulars I went with didn't order it lol, they ordered from around the corner.

Alex White

Google
A super comfy bar with great cocktails, service and old school Iron Chef playing on the TV. The bartender made one of the best Negronis ive ever had. Huzzah!

Jeremy Yowell

Google
Cool place to grab a beer in a neighborhood which always needs more cool places to grab a beer. Would love to see more on tap options, but Lorraine was a chill spot and is a boon for the area.

Google
Great local bar. Sweet customers, great bartenders, perfect price. You can bring food in to eat and these sweeties even let me charge my electronics when my power was out!! Great group of people who put together a fun bar. Always the best spot for a horror movie or pinball!

Erin MacKenzie

Google
If you have anxiety go sit outside its spacious and people are nice generally. Love it here

Google
Been coming to this bar regularly for approx. 2 years - One of the best bars to chill out and kick it. It's that kind of place that rewards being human over some big-shot. And the stories created between these walls can only be understood from being within them and more likely than not, you're in for a treat. Enjoy the awesome decor, great taste in music, and a personality only this place has because the rest is a bonus (often of one's own making)

Google
Great bar. Pinball, cool people, outback area, good vibes. Would recommend.

Yelp
Cheap drinks and good service! My friend and I came on a Thursday night for a chill place to drink. There is a nice outdoor space with tables and then there's also indoor seating but it's kind of dark and the weather was nice so we sat outside. My friend is GF and was hoping for more gluten free beer options but other than that we had a good time :)

Yelp
This place is a joke. The management staff do not take peoples feedback seriously. Based on the previous previous reviews from other customers i have read in here they don't take customer service seriously and as such you shouldn't do business here. Each and every review i have read of a customer complaining about bad customer service the management team here laugh at there reviews and make a mockery out of them, which is totally unprofessional in the business world and as a business owner as well too. I ordered blue Long Island and the bartender tonight made my drink with coke instead of sprite like are you serious girl.... Where did you learn bartending at?! Obviously you're not educated enough to be a bartender if you don't even know how to make proper drinks and have to be called out on the spot for it.

Yelp
I really dig this space. We hit it up both Friday and Sat. this past weekend, before the MMJ show at The Met. It is a small spot, but we found a cool corner to chill with some drinks. The tunes are always solid and pretty loud, so don't try getting to know someone here. You order everything at the bar. They are fairly quick to take care of you, but they certainly think they are too cool for school. Basic Instagram profile (website a joke) with very little information with some edgy notes and instructions to read the beer list behind you when facing the bar. Drafts are limited, but some good local love for fresh pints ($7) with cans that may or may not be available. Again, check the board in front of the bar before ordering. Outdoor space is decent sized and usually quite full. A couple pinball machines inside too ($1/play or 3 for $2). I'll keep coming back with low expectations and stick to the local drafts.

Yelp
This place is weird. Has outdoor space, pinball, and a good mix of cheap and craft beers. A Francisville staple.

kaitlyn m.

Yelp
This place is the best. Decent prices, great vibes. They have a pretty large outdoor space where you can smoke if you like.

Emma D.

Yelp
Best bar in Philly, get the Ham-bo beer. $4 and comes with hot sauce. What more could you want.

Yelp
Lorraine bar should have a slogan "The Neighborhood bar" since it is a staple on Ridge and 15th. It is the perfect spot to meet up and grab a drink with your neighbors and meet new friends over a cold one. A dive bar for certain which is not a bad thing. Once you enter there are usually a few people at the bar chatting in the low lighting atmosphere, with the smell of hops in the air. The drink options are hand written on the wall across from the bar and the bartender is usually ready for the next order. They have good beer options but if you're looking for fancy cocktails or an extensive wine list you are in the wrong place. The prices are good so that's a definite thumps up. Once you grab your drink you can sit at the bar, go towards the back where there are some games, or head out back to the outside seating area. I normally sit at the bar or go out back because there is a slight stench in the back seating area by the bathrooms. My rating is based solely on the fact that, if you are looking for a dive bar in the area this is it. But if you are looking for wine and cocktail options, nice decor, and ambiance...this is not it.

Yelp
Great prices, great location and fun atmosphere. The patio is pretty cool, and I loved the red light in the bathroom. Bartenders didn't hold back on their pours either!

Yelp
Great little dive bar. Nice bartender and cheap drinks. They are cash only but they do have a ATM. The outside are air nice with picnic tables and they have board games too.

Yelp
Bartender was rude and ignored us, bouncer (also maybe owner?) was very quiet and kept giving us dirty looks right off the bat. I asked one of the bartenders if he could grab us a beer and he said "nah I'm just a bar back" and then proceeded to serve beer to other customers. My friend had to go to the other side of the bar and tell the bartender that I'd like to close out, because she was ignoring me. I really don't know what I did to piss these people off, it was like almost instantaneous from when we walked in. Maybe I wasn't dressed the right way or have cool enough tats? I just wanted to have a couple beers. Seemed like they needed to get over themselves.

Kevin S.

Yelp
I've been here 4 times. The bartenders are incredibly slow and barely pay attention. Looking at phone while bar 3 deep. It's really bad.

Yelp
The area around the Met leaves a lot to be desired by way of food and bars. The Lorraine is my pre-show spot. I've been a couple times and recommend it to friends so now I'm recommending to you! Lots of beer options and a full bar to boot. Happy hour prices are great for draft beer but the selection is small. That being said there are a lot of cans and bottles to choose from. Service is quick. Friendliness is about average but I'm not there to make friends with my bartender so whatever. I'm sure to come back. I just hope this place doesn't end up on too many people's radar or I might not be able to get a seat. :)

Yelp
Great bartender! We had some new beers and ciders we've never tried. Pickle back shots too! There was a great playlist and great games because Thirsty Dice down the street said our reservation wasn't good. Lots of open seating in the back. Really cool black light mural in the back. We had an awesome time!
google avatar

Jasmine R.

Yelp
This bar has been in our neighborhood for a while, but for some reason we always passed by and never knew it was there!! It was a fun bar that had free games of pinball, the inside was dark with black light showing off the wall art, the bathrooms were clean, and the outside seating was relaxed and casual. They always have the city wide special (a shot and a beer) and it is just a fun place to hang!!
google avatar

Jamie N.

Yelp
This place is the best! I don't know why there are so many haters! I've been here a handful of times, it's one of my favorite places to go for drinks and I usually end up staying WAY longer than I should because I'm just so dang comfortable here. It's a great casual spot to meet up with friends - we even had a friend bring their dog here which is downright adorable that that's allowed. Definitely worth checking out! Solid drink menu, snacks available and BYOFood, can't beat it.

Yelp
Always my favorite local spot:) staff drinks and atmosphere are great! Also having a backyard right next to zuzu's is fantastic.

Yelp
Oh, sweet, sweet Lorraine! You grace my roommates and me with everything broke college students NEED in such a stressful day and age: * Cheap well drinks ($4??!!) * Decently priced craft beer (a surprisingly nice selection, although very heavy on the IPA side no shocker there) * A spacious inside AND backyard Depending on your interests, there's also anime typically playing in the front or a sports game in the back along with a selection of board games. This place gives you divey but very "bro" vibes, depending on when you come and who is there. I don't mind it (it's nothing like Drinkers) but just a heads up! I have only dealt with one obnoxiously drunk person but that's because he ran into me while being escorted out. I love that it's BYOF: bring your own food! There's ZuZu Pizza right around the corner (they close earlier than most pizza places) and a Chinese takeout place two blocks north. I'm sure if you brought a damn charcuterie board, they wouldn't care since they're that chill. Also, each night has a different theme depending on who is the bartender. Be sure to ask if you're there. If you're in the area, it's a great place to hang out during the week. My roommates and I like to come on a Tuesday and play Cards Against Humanity while sipping beers throughout the night.

Yelp
This place is a FANTASTIC gem. A little hideaway bar where you can relax & have a good time. The bartenders & owners are really nice, funny and informative. The owners are two intelligent guys, who gals seem to think are young and good-looking, yea, okay, they are. More important the prices are good, and so is the music. The pinball machine is an added bonus which customers enjoy a lot, myself included. The person who made the negative comment 'crying racist', you must have chip on your shoulder cause the people who run this show are NOT racist. I've been there several times with a diverse group of friends and we were treated well, and always with respect. Maybe you need to go back with a better attitude and an open mind, not everyone is out to get you. Just my opinion. Anyway, this place is cool with cool owners and bartenders. And they are inviting to all, just don't be an A$$ and you'll be cool too and you'll have a great time. At the end of the day, these guys opened a dream of theirs that they want EVERYONE to enjoy, and they made it a place where they could hangout with customers, who they treat like friends. And...THE BATHROOMS ARE CLEAN! They keep the entire place clean! This is very important especially in a Philly bar. I have been to more expensive places in the city and the bathrooms can turn you off from ever going back. It's great that they allow byof (bring your own food), but it would be good if they had hotdogs and pizza and a popcorn machine. Just an idea. Keep up the good work fella's, and next time I'm in town I'm bringing a crew of peeps.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a laid back bar close to my house, Lorraine fit the bill and had great Yelp reviews too! As a previous Yelper commented this is by far the most unwelcoming bar I've ever been to in Philly. That's saying a lot. Walking in around 11:30p on a Saturday there were only two other people in the bar...period. Regardless the bartender could not care less to take our order. When I asked what bourbon they had, the bartender pointed to the bottles behind the bar. Right, understood, my type isn't welcome. I guess Lorraine's owners don't care about attracting local, good tipping bar goers. Recommendation: stay clear.

Yelp
This is pretty much the neighborhood bar of my dreams. The bartenders are all friendly and cool, the beer and liquor selection is excellent with great prices (and a great happy hour to boot), the music is always amazing. It's small, but not too small, and there's cool Twin Peaks and other surreal and edgy memorabilia everywhere. It's laid-back and a great place to hang out with friends, a single friend, or even just by yourself. In the back there's a pinball machine, and apparently there's even a backyard although I've never tried going out there because I just love the vibe of this place so much. There's usually some kind of horror movie playing on the TV screen over the bar in the front - today was The Relic and Jaws II, I can't remember what they played the other times I've been there but it's always a nice extra touch. There is pretty much nothing that I can think of that would make this place better than it already is. Not just one of my favorite bars, but one of my favorite places in Philadelphia right now.
google avatar

Colleen H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bars in the Northern Philadelphia area! Super cheap, and the drinks are strong. The bartenders are incredibly kind, and very very chill. The interior of the bar is very "hipster" Philadelphia like. They have a huge "made in Delco" sign, which I love, coming from Delco. In the back, there is a blacklight neon space like wall and it is nice to sit and have drinks with friends. There is even a huge backyard! There is some statues, and lots of picnic tables to sit and drink with friends. No food here, but Zuzu's Pizza is right next door! Also cash only, but there is an ATM inside.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Horrible... bartender was rude and not welcoming. I ended up leaving because I felt uncomfortable and didn't want to spend money.. mr jays around the corner was way better.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
This is our neighborhood bar, and after many visits, it deserves its five stars. There's no frills, no expensive craft cocktails, no food, and nothing pretentious. Chris and his brothers admirably took a shot on this neighborhood, they work behind the bar every night, and they make sure Lorraine keeps to it's vision as a comfortable, safe, neighborhood watering hole. There are always five beers on tap ranging from $4 to $6, a ton of craft cans, and a few $2 to $3 cans (low end or sale cans). They take cards, have a great outdoor beer garden in the back, and the crowd is friendly. It's a great place to stop for happy hour or on the way home from a night out.

Jerome C.

Yelp
Best bar to go to if you're looking to avoid the kind of "bros" that complain on yelp about their "stoke being killed" because they got kicked out for bringing their own bud light limes into a bar. Part of the allure is the lack of douche bags that frequent this joint, cheap drinks, nice outdoor space, pinball, and the tiny bathrooms are great for illicit activity (cigs).
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
They do not know how to treat people equally. I acknowledge that I look young and they decided to card me and called it policy to card everyone. I then sat there for the rest of the time witnessing that no one else in the building got carded. I was also the only one not of a specific race. The place had nice patrons.. however, it won't help the fact that the bartender was racist. He was cheerful to everyone else a the bar but not so much with me. I will never be back. I had high hopes for a new neighborhood hangout spot.

Jane G.

Yelp
i love you so much it hurts #hammboners4ever #jimmy #jimbo #hammbo Seriously though I love this place. I'm here all the time and overstay my welcome each time I'm there. The staff is great and the price for the sweet sweet nectar aka hammbone can't be beat!!!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Worst bartender I've ever encountered. I went with some work friends to this place on a Thursday night in the summer. The place was not crowded at all, despite this everyone had to wait at least 20 minutes to get a drink bc the bartender was on her phone texting. When I went back to get another drink I felt like I had to apologize when placing an order bc she seemed so frustrated with everyone. The only upside is that the outside space of the bar is really nice, but everyone agreed we'd never come back because getting a drink involved dealing with the hipster bar tender who sucks at her job. Terrible place.

Sue K.

Yelp
It's close to home. I love this place. Great place to bring friends or be alone for a drink. The bartender was super nice and made my cocktail with no problem.

Mike D.

Yelp
I wish it was possible to leave zero stars. My boys and I were stoked for a dope night out on the town. Normally, we start our nights at Lorraine's for a sold pregame filled with brews and za. Tonight, the bartender wasn't having it. He musta been a newbie. All we wanted to do was crack some cold ones and chill. As soon as we were getting cozy, he came over to us to kick us out. This has never happened before. Lorraine's has quickly gone from our respected pregame tradition to a less than stellar establishment we will make sure to avoid at all costs. We once considered their $2 Hamm's a luxury. Now, this bar is nothing more than a faded memory of our past stoke boosters. Hopefully, this bar realizes this error, but if not it will become a relic of what once was a stokedom,
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Great bar. It looks like a dive on the outside but it is very nice on the inside. They also have outdoor seating in a nice big open yard. Great service by the bar tender who is also the owner I believe. Zuzu is right next door for some awesome food. Combined this is the best spot in Fairmount near broad that won't break your wallet. I highly recommend this place. They also have beers on tap that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Jack S.

Yelp
Congrats on your first bartending job my guy... I used to get stoked on going to Lorraine's but the new guy killed my stoke. I was unpumped to get carded as a 26 year old and killed my stoke even more when he told me to leave for bringing in a bud light lime... it's a shame because my boys were going to buy like 69 hamms from the bar. If you're into strict tenders this is the place for you. If it's not, this mega douche will ruin the time with your boys.I recommend this place because this is the chillest place in fairmont

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Jim rocks Chris rocks too This is the best bar ! We are superfans because they have all of the best beer, and kickass tunes, and pretzels!!! You must come and see for yourself! If you love good beers - not crap beer- you will be so happy with the selection Great atmosphere Clean bathrooms
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Great new bar that opened in the neighborhood. The layout and décor is nice, just a great place to sit and have a few cold ones. No frills, but definitely a nice place to just unwind! welcome to the neighborhood!

Samantha G.

Yelp
Divey in the best way. Chill. Non-douchey crowd. Good bartenders. Cheaper beer than most places. Great outdoor space. It's the best spot to go.
google avatar

Maddy A.

Yelp
I love this place, have probably been there about 5 times. No frills, great beer selection.

Corey W.

Yelp
The type of bar I've been searching for! I hope it remains a hidden gem.
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
Finally! A craft beer bar in Francisville! This place is no frills but the beer selection is solid and the vibe is different from anything else in the neighborhood. There's no food unless there's a food truck in the yard, but, there's a yard! Prices are also really good even for take-out.

L M.

Yelp
Honestly I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in a bar. We received unfriendly service from the bartender from the second we walked in; and I was perplexed, as we are generally good, friendly customers who tipped him well. It's a shame, as this bar is super close to my house and I really wanted to like it. Maybe it was a bad night for him but we will not be back, ever
google avatar

Tyler P.

Yelp
super laid-back neighborhood dive with a lengthy selection of craft beers. plus theres a backyard!

Andrew Y.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday a few weeks ago, excited that a new bar was open a 30 second walk from my house. It doesn't open til 5pm so that's weird but whatever. Nice place, the beer list is a little sparse but good enough. Nicely air conditioned, friendly barmaid, clean and attractive place. There's a very nice yard in back but signs noting you can't smoke there, which makes one wonder what's the point of having it. I was with some nonsmokers who adjourned out there...only to be told it was off limits due to a private party arriving. On a Saturday evening, mind you. And we were the only customers in the bar. The aforementioned party then showed up so we left. See no reason to return.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Really cool, unassuming place. Great selection of (cheap) beers, and will become our new go-to spot! Really appealing for the new folks moving into the neighborhood.

Bradley M.

Yelp
Great beer selection, laid back vibe, and super friendly bartenders. Recently moved to the area and will continue to come. Big draw to the neighborhood.

Kate W.

Yelp
An absolute gem of a watering hole. Great craft beers and reasonably priced. $5 city wides ALL THE TIME... come in for a drink, leave with friends and good memories! Great outdoor space with seating and fun lawn games, too!
