The seafood dishes at Los Aguachiles are simply stunning. Fresh, simple, tasty, and creative! Coming in for dinner, we were seated immediately in the open-air dining room, and though the staff didn't speak much English, they were so hospitable and patient in taking our orders and serving us. Before we ordered a thing, we were brought a basket of tostadas, saltine crackers, as well as a variety of sauces/condiments, but I found that we really didn't need any of them, since every dish was already packed with flavor!
First, we started with the steamed fish taco, a unique herbally-flavored taco filled with mashed fish fillet, onion, and cilantro. We also had the tuna tostada, which was served in a very sweet soy-based marinade. My favorite dish, however, was definitely the aguachiles with green salsa. This dish came with marinated shrimp, sliced cucumbers, avocado, red onion, and other greens in an acidic salsa, which was simply to die for!
For our mains, we had the ribeye chicharrones, a very unique dish of "fried" rib-eye pieces (which were supposed to resemble pork skin), served with guacamole, pickled onions, sprouts, lettuce, and a very acidic sauce, which were all meant to go into hardshell tacos. The ribeye pieces had a strangely funky taste and very crispy texture! Finally, we had the fried octopus, which literally consisted of the intact tentacles of a small, whole octopus. The texture was so nice and crispy, and it was served with the most addictive red peppery oily sauce along with rice and black beans with chicharrones. Absolutely amazing, and my second favorite dish of the night!
Los Aguachiles is the place to come for creative takes on seafood dishes--the value here is incredible for what you get, and the fresh flavors and friendly hospitality make this restaurant simply irresistible!
