"This Playa del Carmen restaurant takes its name from a traditional Mexican dish known as aguachile : chili-marinated shrimp with lime juice, onion, and sometimes other ingredients that lend it a strong, spicy-citrus flavor. With its open-air setting and laid-back, beachy style, plus a location a few blocks from bustling 5th Avenue, Los Aguachiles is in fact more local hangout than tourist joint. There’s an extensive menu of other casual Mexican seafood, most notably delicious tacos and tostadas (crispy tortillas piled high with traditional ingredients), as well as mezcal cocktails and chamochela ( michelada -style beer mixed with sauces, then rimmed with chili powder and decorated with a shrimp)."

And we are back to this great place where you can eat fresh and affordable sea food. We discover it two years ago in a different trip and we came back a few times since. We love the place for the aguachiles and their litter margaritas. Overall great value for the money. Service is always fast and great. Everything we asked for (like the extra lemons and salsas) was kindly accommodated. My recommendation is the tostadas with atún (maravillosa de atún)

Fantastic meal at a great price. Pescado Pachow - mother’s fried fish, Covina. Though not the most complex dish they offer it was perfect, served on a bed of the best coleslaw with tasty rice. Everything was done with care and portions were generous. We stood outside studying the menu for maybe 15 minutes without anyone hawking us or even suggesting we eat there, very refreshing. Just wanted some well cooked fish for lunch and relax a bit. A total stumble upon find that I have already told friends stay at our resort about. I wish we discovered this friendly eatery sooner. There were musicians playing MX tunes and worth tipping before they moved on. My wife normally doesn’t order fried food but she was very happy with her meal. Our waitstaff was welcoming and attentive. We need to go back and try some other dishes.

Google
excellent food. excellent service. the crispy onions on everything are perfect. great fish tacos and tostadas. not the cheapest place in town, but reasonable and worth every peso. again, the service was exceptional.

Google
Not much of an ambiance, just a place to eat. Service is nothing worth mentioning. Food is pricey. But the food is tasty. I ordered tiki tiki tuna by mistake thinking it was cooked tuna entre, but it’s actually like a tuna salad almost. I liked it. The fish taco was average but I didn’t mind it. Would I come back? Probably not. Down the street chiltepin has more options with way better prices and bigger portions

Google
The BEST gobernador taco I’ve ever had!! Mojitos were really too! Great service, nice corner lot, 100% chance we’ll be back.

Google
A fantastic Mexican restaurant! The dishes are exceptional, offering authentic flavors, and the service is top-notch. Highly recommended for a delightful culinary experience. -- > The only minor inconvenience was that the tip was not included in the price.

Google
4 of us ate lunch here and pay half of what we would have paid in any other place. The food was absolutely fantastic. We recommend the Hugo Rice (Arroz al hugo) and the Mix aguachiles. We also had the octopus, which was carbon grilled and tasted delicious; 4 different types of tacos (/try the taco with vapor fish) and 2 different tostadas. We also had margaritas and mohitos. The service was very attentive and very quick. The only thing missing on this establishment was AC as it was a very hot day, but nonetheless, 100% recommended

Yelp
Nicer restaurant with cool vibe off the main road. Casual enough for kids. We couldn't figure out how to make a reservation online and no one answered when we called but it wasn't an issue for us as walk in's. Definitely get the guacamole. I know it's Mexico and it's generally done well a lot of places but this guacamole was notable. Seafood was excellent. I have a shrimp allergy so it was good that they indicated that the fish fillet was cooked in the same style and to avoid. Instead I had a fantastic tuna tostado and King Octopus dish. Their aguachiles fish was fresh and tasty as well. All in all, highly recommend. Price point is on the higher side but not as much as fine dining.

Yelp
Must try place on the playa strip !! Awesome flavor bursting tacos. do try their habanero oil which is served along with the salsas. And the corn, omg the best I have eaten so far ! Fish and shrimp tacos were just delicious. Even the margarita was great. Service ambience everything on point. Great place to try out in playa!!

Yelp
Whenever I am in PDC I always stop at one of my favorite spots. It doesn't matter how long I'm away fro PDC. Every time I come. The food, the service and the ambiance is simply amazing. Royal treatment at its best. You will not go wrong with this restaurant. Their food is reasonably priced and is so so good. Definitely make this a must go when in PDC. I HIGHLY recommend! Thanks again

Yelp
This place is aimed specifically at tourists and it is overpriced. The ambiance is nice but the food lacks authenticity. Their menu is online and every table has the QR code for the menu and the password to their WiFi. Our server highly recommended the TikiTiki Tuna. We ordered that and the Mixed Ceviche. The tuna was not good, it tasted canned. The menu shows a picture of tuna in square chunks (falsely advertised). We pointed this out to our server and she tried to imply that we weren't looking right, my husband zoomed in on the picture (see pictures posted) and then she backtracked saying it's the same thing, just mashed. We had two bites and left it. Disgusting. The mixed ceviche was delicious. We won't be back and I don't recommend wasting your time visiting this place.

Yelp
WOW!!! Bomb food and amazing service!!! I love shrimp and it's been awhile since I had really good shrimp. The camarones los cachondos satisfied my shrimp cravings. The way the shrimps were grilled was perfect..then with some added chili oil for a kick of spice, delicious! I wish I had a whole bucket of the camarones los cachondos to munch on! The tiradito el frescolin plate was phenomenal! HUGE! You can get a half order but I got a full order for myself. The plate has cooked shrimp, aguachile shrimp, tuna, and some type of pork. All good and very fresh. I got a liter of a passion fruit mojito to go with my dinner. If you get a glass of mojito it's 90 MXN (~$5) if you get a liter of mojito it's 185 MXN (~$10) I thought the liter was way more worth it so I just got the liter. So yummy and full of alcohol!

Yelp
Great service, friendly people, fresh fish. Had the horny shrimp (mache sauce), fish ceviche, guacamole, and tuna tartar and all were fresh.

Yelp
Very unassuming spot, but the food is excellent!! Service was also super friendly. The seafood is fresh and full of flavor, and the drinks hit the spot. We came the Monday after Christmas and they did close around 9p, so check the times because it wasn't clear if that was normal or holiday hours.

Yelp
Best seafood in Playa. So good we had lunch and later that night went back for dinner. For lunch my husband had the Agua Chile with shrimp and I had Hugo's rice. The serving size was good and they loaded it with lots of seafood. I wish I would had remembered to take pictures of the amazing food. To drink we both got the passion fruit mijito. Such a great drink and made with fresh fruit with plenty of alcohol. I did have lots of seeds but the flavor made up for it. For dinner my husband and I started with the horny shrimp and calamari. Those were loaded with flavor and wish we had seconds. The calamari was cooked like tempura with a very unique sauce on the top. We followed up with more of the Hugo's rice which was so buttery and plenty garlic it was to die for. Still had plenty of squid, octopus and shrimp. To drink we had more of those passion fruit mijito to drink for dinner.

Yelp
By far the best Mariscos I've had in a very long time.. We were visiting Cancun and my cousin who lives there took us to eat at Los Aguachiles... Everything we ordered was amazing.. My cousin had taken my brother a few months back and my brother could not stop talking about how good this place was, so when we were in Cancun we told my cousin to take us... They have several locations throughout Cancun and in guessing they are all just as good... I ordered the grilled octopus and it was heavenly.. It was grilled to perfection and the flavor was delicious.. It was a big group of us and we all Ordered something different so we could try it.. The tuna tostada and cocktail were also amazing... I definitely recommend coming here if you are hungry and want so delicious mariscos... This place is a local favorite and not over priced like most...

Yelp
Food was amazing! We ordered the shrimp ceviche, fish tacos, shrimp campechando, and elotes. Service was good!

Yelp
Best seafood in the area! Absolutely delicious! We were welcomed by a friendly waitress who provided good service. Outdoor seating but covered, recommend going in evening when cooler. It has a tropical vibe and is colorful. Highly recommend their tostadas & tacos!

Yelp
Dear majority of Cancún tourists. First and foremost, please, for the love of God, wear sunblock. There is a lot of rock lobster happening on these streets. Second, why are you eating at these average restaurants with avocado and tuna tartare. Maybe I'm being very entitled, but can't you get that at home? All you have to do is walk 5 to 10 minutes off of the main strip of Playa and there is literally a plethora of delicious Mexican restaurants. So you won't pass this restaurant in route to Victoria Secrets or Ray-Ban. You have to know it's here. And I don't understand why it wasn't crowded with a line wrapped around the street. This was our best meal in Playa. We had to have the elote, because it's Mexico. It was a little sweeter than I like, but still delicious. We had the mixed Aguachiles in the green sauce, which was out of this world, divine, slap a fish in the face... good. And when I asked what their most popular dish was, in Spanish, no less, I was told it was the grilled shrimp. My daughter and I acted like we had been marooned on a deserted island and hadn't eaten solid food in a month. We devoured the shrimp and even brokered the last two. Her father would not as fared so well in this deal. But these damn kids, we are stupid for them. You have to peel and eat them which is a bummer but they are insanely good. You can tell they're fresh. Yum, yum, swim your divine little bottom feeding selves into my belly. And as a bonus, which has nothing to do with the food but with the atmosphere, there's a little rotisserie place across the street, which is very lively, and you can hear people singing in Spanish, and it's all very joyous and festive. You would be like those sizzled little marshmallows, walking the streets if you don't break off from those basic restaurants on the strip, and find your way to culinary champions like this place.

Yelp
SHEEEEESH! This place is the BOMB! An absolute must if you're needing seafood in Playa and a nice cold litro of passion fruit margarita! I ordered the fish ceviche and pulpo asoleado (grilled octopus) and both plates were phenomenal. The sauce on the octopus added tons of flavor. The service was fast and overall, I would come back to this establishment when I come back to Playa again. I just wished I knew about Los Aguachiles when I first got to Playa!
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of seafood especially aguachiles! But I decided to try a different type of aguachile I had the red one and to be honestly I wasn't a huge fan but the seafood was very fresh. I also order a WHOLE OCTOPUS definitely not a fan! But the ahi tuna tostadas were the best I have ever had in my life so that's why I'm giving this place a four. Next time I would order their green aguachile instead of the red and have four ahi tuna tostadas. Also their in home sauces which you can purchase are AMAZING!! The place was so clean and the service was great! Definitely would go again!!

Yelp
The seafood here is one of the best in PDC. Fresh, high quality and well prepared. Favorites: Camarones Ceviche Pescado Pulpo Aguachile All were prepared right and flavorful with the right spicy kick. It's worth the trip to Playa del Carmen. Do not miss this place.

Yelp
Finally...excellent food! We stayed at a resort in Cancun but travelled to Excaret for the day. We opted not to eat there because the buffet price was steep and we wanted actual GOOD food after a week at the resort (Wyndham Altra) where the food was just GRUB and included. Besides our venture into Tulum where we got Taqueria Honoria, which is also excellent, we haven't had anything really good. Well...along with the help of Yelp we found this spot 5 miles from Xcaret. The food looked so good and after reading review enroute, we knew what we wanted-2 orders of the "sunny" octopus; 1 fish crackling; 1 Hugo's rice; 2 Carnivore burgers (for the kids); and (3) shrimp and fish tacos. The sunny octopus was served on a bed of white rice with a sauce atop the octopus and it was delectable and I'm glad I knew well enough to order my own! The Hugo's rice was enough for 3-4 adults and it was delicious...think fried rice, it filled with shrimp, and octopus and calamari and bean sprouts. This was served piping hot and so so good! By the time I got to the fish cracking, I was so full but didn't want to waste..so I dipped some crispy fillets into the green chili lime sauce and it was just so good. They serve these two large fried portions with tortillas and red onion, should you decide to make tacos, as well as a small of refried beans and rice. The kids had a "carnivore burger" which came with bacon, red onion, lettuce and tomatoes as well as fries. We all got sodas and topo chicos to drink. They said it was really good and that it was also the best meal they had here. Everything was presented really well and I just cannot say enough good things about this place. I wish I had more time just to try some more dishes here. The entire bill ended up being like $140 usd and it was well worth it. The staff was also excellent, and very friendly

Yelp
I ate at the one in Puerto Aventuras. Service was great, food was really good. They have an off menu appetizer of spiced shrimp. Outstanding. Decor is good, open air big Palapa. Had live music which was cool. We will definitely return.

Yelp
We were looking for a mariscos place after the park on our way back to playa and this place came up on Yelp and was very easy to find from the main road so we gave it a shot. It's definitely very traditional ambience and the food was good and the service was nice as well. The two ladies that served us were very nice and recommended good dishes! We had Aguachiles mixto, tiraditos and ceviche mixto all of we ordered half orders to try different dishes and it was a good call to order the half order. We also ordered a whole fresh fish with the chef choice and was delicious. The kids killed it all!
google avatar

Yelp
I read Yelp reviews on this restaurant and they didn't disappoint at all. Great local food. We were a large group of 6 adults and 6 kids including 2 toddlers and they were extremely accommodating. The food was delivered fast and it was delicious. Service was great as well and we had no issues with communication either despite not speaking any Spanish. This is a gem of a place that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try a nice roadside local Mexican restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Overpriced seafood. Just a couple of dishes and drinks for 50 bucks. Other seafood places around the area are definitely cheaper and better.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
This place has a cool outdoor seating setup. I ordered their fried shrimp and their fried fish tacos. The tortillas were soft and chewy while presenting their corn flavor. The seafood was all fresh, crispy, and plentiful in portion. The cabbage and fried strands atop the taco add welcome complexity as do the various mayo-based sauces they lay out for you.

Yelp
This was my second time at Los Aguachiles First time in Cancun and last week at the restaurant in Playa del Carmen. My shrimp tostada was delicious. I asked for fried fish which they didn't have, however they offered the chicharrón de pescado. Honestly, it was a lot of food. It wasn't bad, but it was not crispy enough for my taste. I would stick to the tostadas, Ceviches and tacos. Otherwise, their food is very affordable and very good. Great value, good quality seafood at very reasonable prices! I highly recommend it for Lunch or dinner!
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
Went to both locations...good service, good food but drinks weren't the greatest although very large. I'd prefer less but better quality.

Kathy B.

Yelp
FOOD WAS GREAT AND SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD! However, the margaritas were extremly weak. We had a table of 7 and everyone's meal was delicious. This is always our 1st stop when we get to Playa. The corn is really good and my favorite is the wonderful taco plate....YUM!!!
google avatar

Nancy A.

Yelp
First time coming here. Fast service, the server gave us the rundown of the menu. Great food. Highly recommend and they have reasonable pricing.

Yelp
authentic mexican seafood.. great vibes and awesome food. the grilled shrimp and the tuna tkitiki are my favorites. they don't speak english tho
google avatar

Vinkin Ken T.

Yelp
Our first time trying aguachiles which is a spicier version of a ceviche. It translates to "chili water." However since we don't eat a lot of spicy food, they were able to accommodate us by having it made not spicy. So rather than having a red or green seasoning liquid, it's black. Which I believe is from soy sauce so it was a bit on the salty side for us. It comes with some fried corn tortillas and crackers. Portion size was enough for 2 hungry bellies. I think where they really shine is on their tacos. Both the shrimp with spinach and fried fish tacos were delicious. Each table comes with 4-5 different sauces to dress them up even further. None were spicy. Their passion fruit margarita was weak but for only 99 pesos, we can't expect more than that. They have a few other locations. Do come here for their tacos.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
This place had amazing seafood!! It actually was one of the highlights of our trip. If you love ceviche this is the place to go you will not be disappointed take your time and enjoy, tiny place but clean and efficient.
google avatar

Yassi M.

Yelp
This a local authentic spot that's very clean with excellent service. The fish and shrimp Tacos were awesome. They also have a good selection of tostadas. We also enjoyed the fried Calamari.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
This place was fireeeeeee! So gooood! We had the Tuna tostada, aguachile tostada, fish taco, popeye shrimp taco and margaritas! Defiantly recommend this place to anyone visiting here! Tuna was so fresh ! I recommend the Tamarindo margarita! Also the papas marineras were bomb too! Really good service as well! Make sure you tip these hard working ladies!
google avatar

Florence T.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! The food is fresh and would pass as fine dining! The plating was really elaborated and beautiful! The Aguachiles was the best I have ever had! The tuna toastada were incredibly tasty! The elote was really tasty too! Along with a friendly service and very fair price Los Aguachiles is a must in PDC!
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
This alone might be worth the trip to PDC. The food was amazing even though we were a bit hesitant at first. The tacos look and taste like they should be from some fancy restaurant. I would highly recommend the fried pulpo...(drooling while typing). It's probably deep fried but hey we're talking about taste only here. It's crispy on the outside and tender inside. It has like a soy sauce or savory type sauce on it and the rice it comes with just soaks up all that goodness!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Got to say it was pretty average. Would not order shrimp again. Shell on ez peels in some average sauce was a pia!

Yelp
The seafood dishes at Los Aguachiles are simply stunning. Fresh, simple, tasty, and creative! Coming in for dinner, we were seated immediately in the open-air dining room, and though the staff didn't speak much English, they were so hospitable and patient in taking our orders and serving us. Before we ordered a thing, we were brought a basket of tostadas, saltine crackers, as well as a variety of sauces/condiments, but I found that we really didn't need any of them, since every dish was already packed with flavor! First, we started with the steamed fish taco, a unique herbally-flavored taco filled with mashed fish fillet, onion, and cilantro. We also had the tuna tostada, which was served in a very sweet soy-based marinade. My favorite dish, however, was definitely the aguachiles with green salsa. This dish came with marinated shrimp, sliced cucumbers, avocado, red onion, and other greens in an acidic salsa, which was simply to die for! For our mains, we had the ribeye chicharrones, a very unique dish of "fried" rib-eye pieces (which were supposed to resemble pork skin), served with guacamole, pickled onions, sprouts, lettuce, and a very acidic sauce, which were all meant to go into hardshell tacos. The ribeye pieces had a strangely funky taste and very crispy texture! Finally, we had the fried octopus, which literally consisted of the intact tentacles of a small, whole octopus. The texture was so nice and crispy, and it was served with the most addictive red peppery oily sauce along with rice and black beans with chicharrones. Absolutely amazing, and my second favorite dish of the night! Los Aguachiles is the place to come for creative takes on seafood dishes--the value here is incredible for what you get, and the fresh flavors and friendly hospitality make this restaurant simply irresistible!

Alula S.

Yelp
As seafood restaurants go, this one does not impress. The food was decent (I had the breaded shrimp tacos) but they went way over with the decor. There were some thin, crispy, slightly onion-tasting topping on my tacos that reminded me of fried grass. (I ended up taking it off) I think they go overboard on extras in general. The pickled onions on my tacos made it almost impossible to taste the shrimp at all. They use very extravagant decor for good, but not great, food. Overall, I would not highly recommend, although it is definitely not the worst option. 3/5
google avatar

April R.

Yelp
Sooooo good!!!! We had the guacamole, shrimp ceviche, the mixed octopus and shrimp ceviche, shrimp taco, fish taco, cauliflower taco, and kids fish and chips. I wish we had more days here; we would definitely go back as often as possible.
google avatar

Charles K.

Yelp
The aguachiles at aguachiles are really good. The ceviches are good and the cocktails are reallllllllllllly good and relatively affordable. Sadly this place is overrated. Its good but everyone sets the expectations for this place sooo high its hard for it match them. I still suggest visiting though, especially if you like ceviche. Most of their menu is consisted of raw seafood. The fish is reallly fresh and they have 4 different aguachiles sauces along with a couple different preparations of ceviche. They have something for every raw fish lover couple it with their well done cocktails (try their naranja mezcal cocktail) and its going to be uber satisfying.
google avatar

Tannaz H.

Yelp
Service was impeccable. food was amazing. We got margaritas Los Aguachiles and a lot of other delicious food. Will definitely go back.
google avatar

Julann C.

Yelp
Simply one of the best fresh seafood you'll experience. The taste & textures are sublime. It's been 2 years since my last visit, it did not disappoint. Affordable & excellent.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
This place is the best seafood in Playa Del Carmen!!! Low key, locals, great food. Gorgeous taco and their Famous Aguachille salad is filled with cucumber, octopus, lime avocado sauce. So darn flipping good I had to eat more. Each Tostitos 49 peso or $3. Going back to get a more complete sampling. Parking is tough but indomitable spirit for fresh seafood will take the day
google avatar

Lucia L.

Yelp
Yess fire ceviches and aguachiles!!!! I was never a fan of how acidic marinated seafood is, but these dishes were very well balanced here. Love their ceviche on a lettuce taco and their green aguachile. I also tried their tempura shrimp and tempura fish tacos. I thought both were good, but weak compared to Baja style shrimp and fish tacos. Definitely a go to spot in Playa del Carmen though!
google avatar

Van N.

Yelp
We came here on our quest have seafood dinner and not be surrounded by tourists. And we came to the right place! They have an English menu and a Spanish menu. The staff was very friendly, well to the point that we returned the next day for lunch. When we came back the manager remembered us, it was like greeting a neighbor. Okay the food, get the octopus. If you've never had octopus before, but you like calamari, you'll like this. It was crispy on the tips, so tender, omg. Also, we came back a second time for their tacos, and it was the best seafood tacos Ive ever had. Just go here... Just go, save your money from 5th Ave and come here instead
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
Everything was AMAZING!!! We loved our waitress Jacquline and actually ate here 2 days in a row! The Shrimp Aquachiles, ceviche, and shrimp chili tacos were to die for.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Mannnn it pains me to to give it five stars, but they made my ceviche thing a bit too hot (and I like hot)... I ordered medium, and it made the fish harder to taste. Delightful plating, great fish, and all that. I ate here years ago, and thought it was the best Mexican food I'd ever had. Big tostadas with ceviche and garnishes. But it was too hot this time!

M T.

Yelp
A mixture of tourists and locals. Food is fine but the atmosphere is extraordinary. Get a table overlooking fifth Street and you will be amazed by what you see. Prices are touristy, but the experience is well worth the expense. Great place to stop and have a beer and some tacos. Music is loud and may get you up to dance just a whole lot of fun.
google avatar

Sandra G.

Yelp
All I can say is BOMB.com. Ceviche, guacamole de la casa, tacos de camarón and the tuna appetizer. Everything goes down with that Mexican beer. Tastebuds are SO HAPPY RN!! You get here and they request for you to wash your hands at the front door. So..COVID-safe. Come on by and give them a try. You won't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Mariano S.

Yelp
Food was great, everything seasoned well. My beef tacos were a little under seasoned but nothing their sauces couldn't fix. I forgot what the house drink is but it's basically a fruitier version of a margarita. It's delicious if you like bold citrus flavors & 3 shots of tequila. The food did take a little while to come out but I understand that it's a seafood specialty. Overall everything was great. I recommend here for a more upbeat environment with great food and drinks and free table chips and salsa

Mía Z.

Yelp
He ido varias veces, usan mucha tilapia, un par de veces el atún estaba malo (pedí tostadas), los he tenido que devolver ya que huele y sabe mal, aún así los cobran. El café es malo también.

Yelp
We love this place. This was are first stop in town. We come here at least twice every trip
