Where to Eat Around Denver on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day | Eater Denver

"For those who’ve been nice all year, Christmas Eve offers one last chance to get naughty — and this RiNo taqueria’s rooftop is the place to do it: From 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Los Chingones’ XXX-Mas Pop-Up Bar will be in full swing, whipping up peppermint martinis, caramel-apple margaritas, spiked Mexican hot chocolate, and more with a risqué flourish. (Note that the kitchen downstairs is only open until 9 p.m., so plan dinner accordingly.)" - Eater Staff

Where to drink margaritas in Denver | Eater Denver

"Enjoying a margarita on one of Los Chingones’ rooftops is surely one of the finer things in Denver life. It’s hard to go wrong with the house margarita, though drinkers can also opt for a “skinny” variety." - Camila Navarrette

I've only been here during their tacos after dark menu is available but I still enjoy the food and drink selection. The roof top is a vibe and the staff has always been prompt and friendly. The nachos are really good and they have pickled jalapenos which is a nice and different touch. The music is a vibe as well

Google
The kiwi margarita was bomb as well as the dragon fruit. The Birria taco needed more salt. The nachos were good. The roof top was nice but very hot to sit during the day in summer

Vanessa is amazing. This place is better than el Diablo down the street. She knows the menu better than any bartender / waitress I’ve ever met. She can tell you what to eat based on your taste buds. She is a true foodie! She knows the food of this menu at a level that just makes you want to order and try and even explore new things. Come here and talk to her tell her what you’re interested in and you won’t be disappointed!!! I got the fish taco, the braised beef wild card and the one other. AMAZING!!

Google
I’m usually hesitant when eating at a “Mexican” restaurant due to the hit or miss of their authenticity; Los Chingones did not disappoint! Although the atmosphere and dishes weren’t exactly authentically Mexican, they had just enough Hispanic flare and packed a great flavor! All the tacos we tried were delicious and made us dig in before snapping any pictures to post. Couldn’t even snap a pic of the empty plates due to the staff being quick to clear our table! Attentive service and relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place.

I moved to rino 6 months ago and this place has become a home away from home. Fabi is amazing! Always a smile and just a chill vibe! The food is amazing... top to bottom a great time! This staff in general are just great people! The kind of place you go for nourishment of the body and soul!

Google
The food here is really good, I've been here now a couple of times and have not been disappointed with what comes out, it's honestly really good and really fair for its pricing. The drinks are also pretty good and service is good too. Would recommend this place and for sure would go back!!! Also the upstairs patio is super nice - check it out!

Google
Awesome happy hour spot in RiNo. I split the tacos, guacamole, and corn dish. It was really good and I’ll be back! There are also pitchers of margaritas, but that doesn’t actually give you a discount so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Ally is amazing! I first walked in and it was nothing but great vibes! The drinks are tasty and out quickly! The service was amazing, so worth coming back! Don't even get me started on the food!!!!

Yelp
Just like everyone says, the tacos and margs here are great! Our server was super on it, and really quick to get everyone drinks. It's a little loud and parking is tough to find, but otherwise a fun spot to come for a night out in Rino.
google avatar

Yelp
OVERPRICED BAD VIBES The food and drinks all tasted of artificial lime juice. The music was so obnoxiously loud. And the worst EDM. The busser and (I'm assuming) restaurant manager both rammed into my partner's shoulder at the high top next to the bar. No regard for patron's personal space. The drink tasted like red bull and margarita mix. 6 tacos and two drinks was $80!!!! Our server was sweet. Obviously not her fault. Don't eat here if you're looking for actual Mexican food.
google avatar

Yelp
From the The Frozen Margarita pitcher, Fresh Hand Smashed Guac, and the Taco plate was delicious. The chicharron taco was my favorite! Service was quick and easy and our waitress was polite and friendly. I wouldn't say it's authentic Mexican food but still was worth a try and was still delicious.
google avatar

Corina E.

Yelp
The tacos and the margaritas were delicious. They only had corn off the Cobb which was slightly disappointing. Our server was nice and attentive. We sat on the rooftop and enjoyed a nice strong breeze.

Yelp
Music was great, good vibes. Tacos were tasty & so were the beans. The fried avocado one was my fav. I got a beer & house marg on HH. Service at the bar was good. She was friendly & prompt. I would've stayed longer but I wanted to explore the area. The restroom was decent.

Yelp
Can here yesterday with friends so they could have a drink. Great upstairs outside deck seatings. We had the 4 salsa's and chips. I liked all 4 very much. The spicy habanero was my favorite! The rooster was also good.

Yelp
Cool location, great neighborhood, nice outdoor seating, hip. But... Mediocre food at best. Its like they tried to put a flair on everything and missed the mark. Queso and salsa were both ok but strange - not traditional flavors with sweetness where it did not belong. Tacos were nice - the fried fish was great, duck confit was good and different is good so it all does not just run together. Service was also lacking - but that is always variable with the individual serving - it wasnt really packed but it was like pulling teeth to get refills and such. Overall, I'll give it another chance to try different things but in a world where we all judge a place by their chips and salsa, this one fell short. In an area with so much variety, and that I don't frequent, I left thinking, man I wish I'd tried a different place.

Yelp
The food is good and the drinks are equally good. We came one other time and this time we were able to take it all in. Cool atmosphere and a great selection of margs. The service was very swift and food served hot.

Yelp
This place is in a super vibrant area. Rhino has so many fun, new food options and bars, but this is still one of my favorites.. While there isn't a dedicated parking lot, during the afternoons for lunch plenty of street parking is open and even my most anxious parking friends can easily find a space. The atmosphere is fun, they were playing a playlist of some of my favorite DJs when we walked in. I know during the course of our visit I heard some Sophie Tucker and Disco lines, possibly Dillon Francis too. The staff was super helpful - we had two different servers helping us out. Both were warm and friendly and accommodating. We split five of the tacos because I couldn't decide and wanted to taste them all. I absolutely love the duck and pastor tacos, but to be fair I could've eaten a plate of anyone of the choices. The chef really knows what he's doing with those flavors. My favorite item on the menu is the queso Blanco with the Elote topping. Glad that this doesn't come in any larger of a size as I would probably have to buy new pants. Every time I see a menu, I immediately order it. Luckily, I had some help finishing it off today. I was also working on my laptop, they do have strong Wi-Fi here. However, I've never stopped by a table where there is an outlet - so make sure you come fully charged.

Yelp
We ordered three tacos for $17 and didn't even get plates or utensils. The setup felt like a trendy cafeteria--definitely not what you expect at these prices. Our server was nice but disappeared halfway through, and no one else checked on us. You even have to get your own water. For what they charge, the lack of basic service was really disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a lovely server who was attentive and mindful of my allergies (GF, celiac) for a weekday lunch. The only downside was that the music was absolutely deafening -- one of our party was hearing impaired but we were told that the music volume was unable to be changed (despite only 1-2 other small parties in the restaurant). Meal was a bit pricy but it was a large amount of food. I felt safe eating there and had no concerns arise later. Menu options are small for gluten free needs but again, when the server is knowledgable it always feels like a great experience!

Yelp
Clean, stylish, friendly, delicious. My young adult children and I popped in on a Sunday night. Parking in the area was sparse but we found something on the street a block away. The area is maybe a little sketch/dark at night but Denver is a pretty safe town. Interior is stylish and interesting; we sat in a corner table. It was comfortable/warm despite lots of windows, on a cold night. Servers were very friendly/charming and got us set up with drinks then took our orders. We all enjoyed our flavorful, authentic, meals; I had Birria tacos x2, and Carnitas x1, with rice, beans, and a NA Corona. Portions were responsible/right-sized. I know I could have ordered/eaten another taco - but I didn't need it. No leftovers. RECOMMEND.

Yelp
We came to Denver for a wrestling tournament and we were craving Mexican food. I checked on Yelp and saw all these reviews so I couldn't wait to try it. Originally, they said it would be a 45 minute wait. They were able to seat us within 15-20 minutes. Plus number 1! Steve was our server and he took our order right away. We had multiple taco orders shrimp, barria, carne asada. Then an order of enchiladas. Everything came out so hot and fresh. Steve brought us extra limes also. The tacos are amazing!!!! Of course the kids wanted the churros with Mexican chocolate. I've never had a better churro in my life! Even Disneyland can't beat the taste of these churros. We will definitely visit this place anytime we come to Denver. The ambience was cool too. Definitely fits in the with downtown vibe. Thanks Steve

Yelp
Margarita flight was a little over priced but all were delicious. We sat on the patio and the waitress was very nice. Pineapple salsa was amazing!!

Yelp
We had great drinks and food here! I got the pick three tacos: birria, shrimp, and fish. They were all honestly really good! Rice and beans tasted fresh as well. We snagged a spot on their rooftop and it had a lovely vibe. They have indoor seating as well as a patio downstairs. Service was good as well!

Yelp
If you're looking for a fun hangout location in RiNo, you gotta try Los Chingones, good Mexican food selection with happy hour specials. I ordered El Pastor tacos, street tacos size. I loved them, very flavorful. They add pineapple slices on top which gives them an authentic Mexican taco taste. $5 margaritas were good. Sitting -They have downstairs sitting /bar and upstairs sitting with patio sitting with also upstairs bar. Bathrooms are located on the first floor. Vibe-They have Mexican music playing which I enjoyed a lot. I loved every song.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended but I was surprised to see it so full and to see they require reservations (at least on busy nights). We sat in the bar area but even there I liked the ambiance. It felt warm and cozy. Their salsas are delicious ESPECIALLY their pineapple salsa. It was the perfect blend of smoky and sweet. I liked that their menu was so simple. It tells me they know what they're doing and they do it well. I got a few tacos with the beans and rice. I would probably skip the beans and rice next time but the tacos were all very flavorful and unique. I had to try the cactus taco and while it was good it was so spicy that I didn't taste any special flavor of the cactus. Does cactus have a flavor?

Yelp
We had the bubu bowl, quesadilla with veggies, chips w/ garden guac + pineapple salsa + house salsa, fried avocado taco, other veggie taco. Everything was fantastic. Nice sized servings. Great service. Fun, party vibes on the rooftop with fun music playing! Definitely recommend for an upbeat time.

Yelp
This spot is a solid Tex-mex go to in the area with good vibes and good food. I've been here a handful of times now and have enjoyed every meal I had here. Sometimes there's a wait at night because of the location but we've never had to wait longer than 10 min (sit at the food bar if you can!). Unfortunately I've never been able to enjoy their rooftop but I believe it's open in the summer months so I would recommend you check it out. Will continue coming here until we move.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE FROM OUT OF STATE. PLEASE SEE BOTTOM FOR ALTERNATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS If I could give this a zero star I would. My partner and I were visiting Denver from Tennessee. We sit down and a gentlemen (who I presume was upper management) asked if we wanted some drinks. We try to order some and he asks for IDs. We show him our IDs and he is extremely suspicious of my partners ID. He takes it to the back to get second opinions, and then comes back claiming it's fake. I take out my ID to show him that it's not and that we are in fact from Tennessee. He sees that my ID is the new government issued REAL ID while my partners isn't, and claims that both mine is also fake, and even if it wasn't fake, the fact that mine looks different from hers is further evidence that hers is fake. We say no problem, we will leave. We were already going to leave, as we were completely turned off by the service. My partner just so happens to be a pilot. Before we got up to leave, I show the gentlemen my partners Federally issued FAA pilots license, just to prove that we were not in fact lying. He looked at the FAA license and asserted that it too didn't look authentic. Who would fake not one but two licenses, and fake an FAA Pilots license?! We ended up going to La Diabla just a block away and had the most amazing experience. No lie we had margs with 2 tacos for $5 each. The waitress ended up getting us free shots, and essentially walking us through a 4 course meal of their delicious menu. Such an incredibly different experience from the TERRIBLE service at this place. The gentlemen literally fooled himself out of our money. If you are from out of state, don't waste your time. Go to La Diabla instead.

Yelp
I came here with a girl friend on a Friday night around 7:30pm. We were able to get a seat right away on the roof top. *Stairs only It took a while for a waiter to come up to us but that was okay because we were catching up. Started with some drinks and they were delicious, bare in mind the spicy marg.. is spicy. lol My quesadilla was delicious. It had a little kick and was very filling. The tacos were also yummy with the shrimp taco being the favorite. I did take off one star because of the stairs only, and bathroom. Only one stall was available and there was a big line. This is a great date night spot or group hang out. The did have table that were big enough for six people. Overall 4/5 stars!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch to grab some quick tacos! It took a few minutes for the server to come greet me, but once she did the service was quick. The food came out with in minutes. I ordered Brussels to start & they were great! I then had 2 taco Tuesday. I came back for dinner and enjoyed the margarita tree! It was great!! The atmosphere was fun and there is outdoor seating. Very open & plenty of space!

Lindsay A.

Yelp
Food is mid. Restaurant is loud, unnecessarily. I live in the area and you start blasting music sometime between 9-10am on the weekends. You don't open until 1030am. Can you maybe wait until then to blast the music? Thanks.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
A fun rooftop spot in RiNo! It is on a fun strip that you can walk to other places post drinks and food. The happy hour was amazing with good guacamole & tacos. The gluten free options are amazing! The service was kind and easy. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Hair in my chips. The birria was so salty I couldn't even eat it. The carne asada was so bland my kids had to find a sauce to put on it to eat it. And they only serve soda from cans or bottles which means no free refills. The food was mid at best but definitely not worth the hype. Did not have any alcoholic drinks.

Yelp
Well from Los vegas. Visiting best friends for our birthday. Came across his fabulous little restaurant! Tacos were on point cocktails delicious! Smooth environment love it love it love it a must try! Carter

Yelp
Cute little place in Denver with a bar area and a restaurant area. Very colorful inside with an open kitchen and TVs above the bar. There are a limited number of standard height tables and a decent amount of high top seating rows, which was fine for the taller members of our group, but we had to wait a bit for a standard table since we had some more petite members of our party. The menu has a decent amount of creative combinations that extend beyond your traditional Mexican flavors. Pros: creative taco combinations, quick service, decent portion sizes for the price Cons: Loud, not terribly comfortable seating TLDR: worth a try for the creative taco combinations.

Yelp
This is definitely a happy hour hangout spot. We came for a late dinner on a Monday. Got the Marg Tower. Besides being tasty is a whole experience of its own. There was plenty for two people to share. The queso and salsa flight came with plenty of chips. The best thing we ate all night was that birria taco. It was fantastic.

Yelp
Cruising thru the city of Denver we decided to take a break and try a local spot for some appetizers. Los Chingones was highly recommended on Yelp so we stopped by. Los Chingones also has a rooftop bar and restaurant for those looking for a drink while enjoying the scenery of downtown Denver. Unfortunately the unexpected rain prevented us from sitting upstairs but inside had great decor and packed with patrons who arrived from watching the Rockies play. Los Chingones has a simple menu of traditional Mexican dishes as well as drink menu. We didn't have time for drinks in the visit but did order the fried Brussel Sprouts and queso dip. Both appetizers were delicious and reasonably priced. Overall great experience and recommend anyone in the area stop by and enjoy a great time.

Yelp
This review is disappointing to write as I have been before and loved going up to the patio and grabbing a beer when it's nice out. However, this time around when we came in on a beautiful sunny day we wanted to go up in the patio and it was closed. Our experience was very hostile from our hostess greeting us to the end of it. In addition, when arrived we asked our hostess simple questions and he acted annoyed with us. When we sat down we knew we wanted queso so when we requested queso the waitress asked if we wanted chorizo, not specifying what kind of chorizo until we had the opportunity to look at the menu and it states "rattlesnake chorizo". We tried grabbing the waitress but when we had the chance our queso was already out. We asked about it as we were wanting just regular chorizo and we were told it's rattlesnake mixed with rabbit meat and pork. Untouched, we asked to send it back to regular queso and the attitude we received was very disappointing and unprofessional from our waitress. The waitress continued to be rude for the remaining of our time there and when our checks came we noticed the original queso w/ chorizo was included. We then asked the waitress about it as we did not touch the queso and her response was "yes, its in there" she argued back and forth with us and then took our check and said she will speak with the manager about it. She then came back with the accurate check and said nothing to us. I know it can get overwhelming as a server and hostess but there weren't too many when we got there. They really need to speak with their staff as this is not the first time their service has been unprofessional towards myself and the individuals I've been with.

Yelp
Yum! This place was such a tasty treat! The margharita flight was a fun experience but they recommend you share with another person since it equals 2.5 drinks. The tacos are so good! Birria tacos were the best in my opinion. Highly recommend the guac as well. We went here before a baseball game since it's not to far from the stadium. Great pit stop before heading over! The rooftop is highly recommend but it was cooler to sit inside than up there. Very colorful though with a bar.

Jacobi A.

Yelp
Overpriced and not worth it. It's better during happy hour but outside of that the food is average and the prices are high for food. Not worth it in Rino. Go to La Diabla Pozole Y Mezcal one block away for WAY better prices.
google avatar

Dylan S.

Yelp
I was told this place had Margarita towers and my eyes went wide open. Who doesn't love margaritas?? And in a tower form?? Yes please. I stopped in on a Friday night and was sat almost immediately for the roof top patio. Patio is an amazing spot to overlook RiNo and the city. Views were amazing, we got to even watch a beautiful sunset. I will say rooftop music can be loud for some, but I didn't mind. For food we ordered the queso with additional corn added. I had the 3 taco combo. I originally ordered the birria, bang bang shrimp and gringo. I wasn't given the bang bang shrimp taco unfortunately and was given a different one. The kitchen seemed to be pretty busy and behind but it was a weekend so no stress. Food was still amazing and great flavor. My favorite was definitely the birria. A worker from kitchen brought food to our table and had queso and tacos. Asked if we had ordered queso but we already had the queso on the table. Staff member had walked away and placed the tacos on a ledge outside and walked away for about 5 minutes before returning and grabbing the food and bringing it back to the table. Not the best thing to do in my opinion. Other than that every thing was great. Fun spot for a quick date night or even a pregame spot before joining the bars below in RiNo.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
A vendor took me here for lunch today and I really enjoyed it! There was lots of seating and a cute atmosphere. The prices on the menu seemed very cheap compared to other places in the area! I ordered the Tijuana salad with added adobo chicken and it was delicious! Nice and light but filling at the same time! I do wish it had another topping or two such as corn or beans just for a little more body, but it was still good! We also ordered the chipotle pineapple salsa and it was delicious for a sweet salsa!
google avatar

Annie C.

Yelp
Food is average for Mexican. The 3 taco platter is a good value meal but the beans came in a small plastic dish, of which I was not a fan. Duck confit was not as sweet as I've had and lacked complexity. Would have preferred a good lengua taco but that was not a menu option. Relatively busy on a weekday night with a lot of tables, and nice enough to sit outside on their patio. Worst is that the menu had leftover food sauce on it which was unpleasant to touch by surprise.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
We stopped here on the RiNo food tour and tried the adobo chicken taco! It was delicious. I also got the margarita, which was one of the best margs I've had since moving to Denver! The staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant has an awesome patio and rooftop!
google avatar

Syd J.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant while in Denver. The rooftop setup is pretty basic. Few high tables with regular tables in between. There's a bar on the inside. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer. The nachos were really good. I would recommend them. The tacos were very bland, virtually flavorless. The waitress saw that I didn't eat my tacos and didn't offer to take them off the check. I even told her I didn't like them.
google avatar

Charisse Q.

Yelp
Los chingones is a fun place to meet friends for a drink! The margaritas are pretty sweet but still fun with all the different flavors. Every time I have gone in the service is great! They check up on you often and are helpful with menu suggestions!

Linda S.

Yelp
G Great food. Good margarita. Location and top deck fun. Good to be there we really enjoyed the outdoor setting. The waitress was amazing and very friendly. She even took our photo as we were there for a bachelorette. Food was great. We tried the margarita tree which let us try five different types of margaritas. What a fun concept and they were so good and different. I'd highly recommend you try it to.

Yelp
Good vibes in the Art district in Downtown Denver! Stopped in for lunch and sat at the bar. It was a warm day in Denver yesterday and the restaurant hadn't prepared properly--so it was HOT in the restaurant. I was sweating during my meal! The bartender wasn't very attentive, but was kind of The food was DELICIOUS!! And the margarita flight was cool!
google avatar

Sara F.

Yelp
Amazing food! Great service and enjoyed having lunch outside on a beautiful day! We arrived right at 11am although could definitely see how this place is hopping at happy hour/evening. Would recommend the margaritas by the pitcher! Although I also tried the Habisc-a$$ Margarita which was so refreshing! We were served chips and delicious salsa. Ordered the Taquitos (will be dreaming of these), Bang Bang Shrimp tacos (yes please), and other orders were Mexican Pizza, Crispy Brussel Sprouts (amazing), Birria Tacos, and Duck Confit Tacos (so good). Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I really love this spot in RiNo; it's my go-to after a walk through the alleys to photograph the street art. It's a cute little art bar with great service and quick turnaround. I usually hit this spot for lunch because the price point is incredible for the amount of food you get. Everything is fresh, eye-catching, and filling. I'm also a big fan of what I call "bathroom philosophy"--you know, where people leave notes and stickers all over the bathroom stall walls...in this case, there's a lot to learn while you hit the Lou Definitely recommend this spot for an afternoon bite with a friend or a solo bite.

Yelp
best elote hands down i want to drown in it * we had a walk in 9 top which i know can be annoying but the server handled it so well * dips & margs were very yummyyy

Yelp
I seen this on TikTok and what brought me in? The marg tree. The drinks were smaller than I thought they were going to be but for $30 I thought it was worth it. Two of them were super sour though, and I wasn't a fan of that. The fact they gave sauce options is super nice. The more the merrier. I got 3 tacos, carne asada, birria and fried fish taco. Honestly that was the best carne asada I've ever had, they put some sauce in there and it has a kick, and I was sad this was the one time I didn't order all asada. The birria was meh, wasn't good or wasn't bad, and the fish taco was sort of bland but they gave you a really big piece of fish. The place is sort of small, not much space to sit, and they have an outside but it was raining that day. All in all, I would return here.

Yelp
Most important thing to know while restaurant is listed as staying open until 10 on Thursdays the kitchen closes at 9. I was a bit miffed after trekking there by foot for 15 mins because I could have taken a car to get there sooner. Thankfully the host talked to the bar and they let me order to-go. Which although not ideal, still allowed me to order what I wanted. I settled on tacos -birria, duck confit and chicken. Not one disappointed. I wasn't particularly fond of the beans and rice -they tasted a little hard and dry so I focused on enjoying the tacos. Bar staff was nice while I waited and the food didn't take long. Thankfully it was still warm once I returned to my hotel ~15-20 mins later. Vibe is very street art and cool without going too far. I liked the wall of chefs outside the bathroom. Go for the birria tacos if nothing else.

Yelp
Best tacos I've had in my life!!! And I'm Mexican... Seriously amazing. Try the asada tacos with a nice Paloma. You won't regret! ‍

Yelp
For the prices, this place was okay. The food wasn't mind blowing but not terrible either. I got the Carne Asada burrito, which was huge and I ended up finishing it. If you check in on Yelp, you can try out their Chips and Salsa Trio, which was pretty decent! Overall, everyone that I went with felt that their food was pretty solid. The service here was super nice and they consistently checked in. Also, the music here was unexpectedly a lot of Pop Punk/Scene music, which I personally really enjoyed, haha.
