"Los Compadres is a very small — but elaborately decorated — Mexican restaurant in Ft. Lee. While the regular menu is straight-ahead Pueblan fare, a list of 10 or so specials every day offers less common dishes, including on a recent visit, gorditas stuffed with beans and chorizo, barbecued chicken with guava sauce in a burrito, and a soup of fava beans and cactus." - Melissa McCart, Robert Sietsema

Yelp
Ordered 3 tacos: Al Pastor, Carnitas, Steak...(one taco eaten before taking pic). Small place with limited indoor and outdoor dining. Friendly and attentive service and tacos were delicious and fresh!

Yelp
This Mexican restaurant was my go to place whenever I want Mexican food. They were the best in town for fresh ingredients and wide range of selections. Until most recent visit on Thursday, 13th June 2024 for lunch - it will be my last trip there. I dined at the restaurant and ate the small chicken nachos and Thursday's special calamari tacos (ate 2 out of 3). I enjoyed my lunch. However on the same day, at night to the next early morning, I was in the bathroom. I had food poisoning. I know for sure it was from this restaurant because I skipped breakfast and had only lunch that day. I skipped dinner too. I experienced major stomach cramps, cold sweats, and almost ended up at the hospital. Next day, I called the restaurant to inform them about the food poisoning incident. Fortunately the owner remembered me and said he would look into the food ingredients. That was it. No apologies or feedback. I paid in cash so no way to trace my payment. Please be careful. I am extremely disappointed this happened.

Yelp
Great food, inexpensive, and a really extensive menu. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, there's plenty of options.

Yelp
This place transported me south of the border. With every bite, it was evident that this small Mexican joint was a cut above the rest. The pork, oh the pork, it melted in my mouth like butter on a hot griddle, leaving me in a state of pure culinary bliss. But what truly sets this place apart is its commitment to freshness. Every ingredient, from the ripe tomatoes to the crisp lettuce, sings with vibrant flavor, a testament to the kitchen's dedication to quality. If you find yourself in the vicinity, do yourself a favor and pay a visit. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Was in the mood for some Horchata... and ordered some fries on the side... I felt like they used real potatoes and seasoned it with pretzel salt... it was really good and it smelled really good too. Definitely will come back to try other things

Yelp
I was craving Mexican and decided to give this place a 2nd chance. The first time I ordered fish tacos and was very underwhelmed. The food here is a little pricey but you can see they use quality ingredients. I prefer their low grease levels compared to other places. We got birria tacos, chorizo quesadillas and a carnitas bowl for takeout. The birria tacos were super flavorful - the combination of a regular taco with the consommé and a squeeze of lime made for a substantial meaty bite that was insanely savory. I never had birria tacos before and maybe I just prefer this style of tacos. Chorizo quesadillas were great but nothing revolutionary. A great staple that you can doctor up with sour cream or hot sauce. Their chorizo isn't too greasy and doesn't have weird bits of gristle or fat which I have experienced at other restaurants. Carnitas bowl is the safest and imo blandest option. Braised pork shredded with pickled onions, avocado sauce (not guacamole), corn, cilantro and rice is filling and reasonable for the price. Comparable to Chipotle but Chipotle probably has more bang for the buck. Takeout so didn't sit at the tables. Service was friendly and fast.

Yelp
I ordered their birria burrito. Oh my god, this place is a godsend for mexican food. I have been returning here and trying new things bc this place is the real deal and they have no disappointed. Burrito was masterfully constructed and the flavor was just delectable. Great ratio of ingredients, and tons of meat! Came with a side of chips and you can't miss out on their house made salsas!!!!

Yelp
Got the blackened fish tacos and today they were FIRE. I don't know why they were so on point today because usually they're just decent. But the fruits and veggies were fresh and plentiful; the fish chunks were big, flaky, and flavorful; and the chipotle aoli married them all beautifully together. I didn't even try the elote yet but I'm sure they'd be good anyways. I inhaled all my tacos in 8 minutes because (1) I hadn't eaten in a day and (2) they were delicious.

Kevin W.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, especially given the generally positive reviews but sadly the food here just didn't cut it for me. Maybe it's because their tacos weren't nearly as good as the ones I normally go to in Little Ferry (Victoria's), but the flavors of the tacos we tried and the sauces were just so-so to me. Perhaps I will try something else next time but the carnitas and the beef options here were just average at best. I also really tried hard to enjoy their ginger/orange drink but that didn't sit well with me either and the flavors were way too overwhelming. The prices here however are pretty decent and the people who run this place are incredibly friendly. Perhaps I'll try something else next time that might be better than the tacos.

Yelp
First time trying out this place, I was so happy they had vegan options, the vegan ground beef was good the texture and the taste were really good and the grilled fish tacos came w decent piece of fish, the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, the service was courteous and helpful came at almost closing and they were very patient, it's small space inside but they have outdoor seating that's perfect for spring summer looking forward to coming back!

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Ordered dinner and the portions were huge. When I came to pick up everyone was friendly and welcoming . They also gave us free bread pudding and two tres leches as dessert. Will definitely come back for the yummy food!

Yelp
Los Compadres is one of my favorite stops in NJ. We stopped by and came inside to a small space to order and had an amazing lunch here. They have a large selection on their menu and outdoor seating as well as 1 or 2 tables inside. The food is phenomenal. Service is great. My friend ordered a custom bowl that was amazing, but also a mushroom, pepper and onion quesadilla that was alright. It looks like they use goat cheese which I loveee, but was too full to try it. I ordered the coconut shrimp platter which was equally amazing and extremely filling. I would strongly encourage you to check them out, especially if you're local. I will absolutely return. Ambience: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Los Compadres: 5/5

Yelp
I went there and ordered a breakfast burrito and thought the food was good and the guy at the register was sweet so I left him a $4 tip on a $10 burrito. I go back the following week and order the same thing, he tells me 10 mins. 25 mins later after seeing multiple people who arrived 10 minutes after me getting served meals with Chicken steak and even an employee who orders the same thing as me and took her break after I arrived all revive their food first. Normally I don't say anything but I had to pick up my son so I asked how come everytime was served before me and came after. The man who the week prior I thought was sweet responded with I don't like it when people ask me questions if you don't like it you can have your money back. I was so shocked and said I'll never be back. He responded with we've been in business for 5 years and we'll continue to be in business with or without you. I don't know if he was having an off day but he fed could have given a kinder offer. With so many Mexican choices I will never be back there, good customer service is important to socially in this financial climate.

Yelp
I had a bad experience at this restaurant; the fish was still frozen in the middle. I told them about it, and the server had a bad attitude did not fix it and told me to talk to the manager. It seems like they do not take responsibility when they make a mistake from their end.

Nic D.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Been coming here since they opened, always top quality. Haven't had a bad dish yet! Highly recommend

April L.

Yelp
This is a great lunch spot. There's so much to choose from their menu. I'm excited to come back and try more of what they have. Chicken tinga 4/5 Cuban burrito 4/5 Horchata 5/5 I loved that tinga spice. Burrito satisfies and the horchata had the right balance of cinnamon and sugar. Street parking is easy to find. There's free parking after 6pm. They had a simple outdoor setup with decorations. Service was great too.

Rosemary P.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Tortilla soup had so much flavor. Service was real. Very personable

Vickie R.

Yelp
Great place for a quick Mexican take out! I had fish tacos and it was good and well cooked. The service was pretty fast. You can eat there but it's small place! You can sit outside now that the weather is great! I didn't give them 5 because $. I will order again!

David S.

Yelp
They are the real deal, authentic Mexican food and drinks and great service. I'm not even a local and they treated me like one. The spot is a hole in the wall but they make the most of it with their colors and furniture and I felt comfortable waiting for my pork nachos. The nachos were plentiful with a lot of meat, jalapeños and flavor. To be honest I couldn't finish them all so if you're looking to share a lunch, this meal is where it's at. All for pretty good value too. Great location too - walking distance from a park and the Community Center. If you're in Fort Lee and you're craving Mexican food or want to get away from all of the amazing Asian cuisine, come check out Los Compadres.

Yelp
Fantastic service AND delicious food. We loved everything we ate and felt like we were guests in a great Mexican home!!! Very good value and nice music.

Beth C.

Yelp
Best Mexican food I've ever had in NJ!!! Please eat here, let them get rich, and open a larger spot that will put these other gross places out of business.

Cris K.

Yelp
The vegetarian sandwich I got was surprisingly really filling and tasty!! I was also craving chili (vegan version) and figured I'd give it a try, but after tasting that, some things are just better left non-vegan lol. Reasonably portioned and fairly priced, I definitely look forward to trying to more things soon!!

Desiree F.

Yelp
I seen the great reviews so wanted to give this spot a try. I ordered online and my meal was the vegan tacos and a side of chips and salsa. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked up and they had minimal outdoor and indoor seating. I got a warm welcome from a very nice restaurant worker. I told him my name and he grabbed my food. I had to sort through the food before I left. When I got home I tried the food and I was a little disappointed. The chips were rock hard but the salsa was good. I had to throw away a majority of them. The vegan tacos were meh. I put a little of the hot sauce and boy was it overpowering. I wasn't too pleased with this meal but I would be willing to try something else on a cheat day.

Yelp
Food here is so great. We have been here several times. My husband is happy I found this place. We have eaten here when we come. Outside. They only have about two or three small tables outside. But people eat and leave and you clean your own table. No issues. Staff is super nice. They bring out your food. Get you sauces. Ask how everything is. We gave liked everything so far!

Vanessa A.

Yelp
First impression from the staff was great. Super friendly on phone and when I went to pick up the order. We weren't won over with the food though. The fish tacos were the favorite of the tacos. The sauce was a little spicy but added flavor. The consensus for the chicken, lamb barbacoa and the brisket tacos were that they were dry. Had the meats been a little juicer they might have been okay. The super nachos ordered with chicken tinga were a hit. The portion size is HUGE loaded with chicken, cheese, beans, corn, jalapeños, guacamole,. I'd definitely go back for these! The chicken quesadillas weren't bad either for just chicken and cheese (and another sizable portion).

Yelp
Coming from LA SUPER SUPER Excellent Mexican food, you tell everything was freshly made, i ordered a bowl and the bowl comes with tons of sides and they grill it which makes it even better! And as usual had to order a taco "lengua taco" wow very very SLAMMIN! My other friend ordered the shrimp bowl that was good too! Simple menu and easy parking! A must stop on the way home LOL...

Steve J.

Yelp
Ordered 2 bowls food look great and fresh no flavor at all on both bowls sadly I won't order from them again

Patrycja W.

Yelp
Decent fairly priced food. Simple style tacos however last time I ordered no sauces were provided even though we selected sauces. The elote is to die for.

Soräng B.

Yelp
I normally do not leave bad reviews about places..but..if I had a bug sitting on my taco, I think I have to let other people know. I ordered street style suadero taco from here because I've heard great reviews about this place. I was very excited when the food arrived, but when I opened the food, there was a ladybug sitting on my taco! I took picture and immediately called the store to elaborate on the issue. And the lady that answered the phone was being rude, she did not say sorry. She told me to call back when their manager is available. It's your choice weather to order or not to order from this place, but please lower your chance of having food with a ladybug on the side delivered to your home.

Amit K.

Yelp
Small place. Few tables inside and larger sitting outside. Clean and funky modern decor. The menu is large. Some thing for everyone. They have 3 kinds of sauces on side - each different. Really loved the food. The staff is friendly. While I was waiting, saw regulars come in and pick up lunch. Will go back when I want lunch in that area.

Dylan P.

Yelp
Can't wait to go back. This place have very authentic food. The tacos are two different styles and the bowls are amazing as well. Whenever we are craving Mexican we also think to do Los compadres first.

Jess J.

Yelp
(Takeout only) Amazing local spot if you have a taco craving! I've tried many tacos across NYC and find this place to be top notch. I've tried fish, steak, chorizo, lengua, all of which are soaked with flavor and decorated with all the toppings (you can choose which type of toppings while ordering on their site). You can get the flautas with the meat options if you're feeling a crunchy texture. I also love their bowls, which is packed with each ingredient. We usually get an order of empanadas. They always honor our request to remove the toppings so that the empanada doesn't get soggy. Finally their online ordering system and delivery have always been dependable and speedy.

Rolando P.

Yelp
Chicken Burrito was Excellent and soup Was Great small Place three Table to Sit on Great for Ordering out reasonable prices will Come Back Again!

Shauna V.

Yelp
One of THE best taquerias in the area. Love the service always, they're always the most friendly and welcoming -- I'm finding every excuse to eat tacos as often as possible! My friends have gotten burritos and bowls from here as well, also delicious and filling. This place does the best salsa hands down too . Treat yourself to some chips and salsa and their amazingly refreshing cucumber lemonade or horchata!

Asia A.

Yelp
Good authentic Mexican food. I like the steak street tacos, elote and cucumber lime aguafresca.

Elvis A.

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican food... Everything is good from the tacos to the bowls!!! The service is great , they very hospitable. Its a small intimate place on warm days you can eat outside.

Auggie L.

Yelp
Went for Lunch Food - 5/5. The pork was super tender and fragrant. Beans were alright but the corn salsa was awesome both visually and in flavor; it really mixed well the natural sweetness of corn with the little zing of the spices. Rice was fluffy, the pickled onions gave a nice tartness and the avocado sauce was creamy and mellow. Service - 4/5. Food came out quick and with a smile. Value - 4/5. The bowl was a nice portion and came with plenty of meat. Food was delicious and looked fresh. $11 is on the above average side of pricing and they didn't seem to have any kind of promotions so a little slab of value is lost there. Parking - Mall Lot (Free)

Risa S.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try this place out the other night! There's only street parking so good luck. Fortunately, we were lucky and found a spot easily. When I walked in, I'm pretty sure I started salivating instantly. Smelled SO good!!!! It was a Friday around 6PM and there were 2 people waiting for their orders (their order was for multiple people) and I think 2 other people came in for take out as well. So there's def good foot traffic and sounded like they were mainly regulars. One got a sample of chicken, another walked in and the cashier knew exactly what he wanted. As a newbie, kinda felt left out.lol. I ordered the tempeh bowl with the cilantro lime rice. And my mom got a burrito under their "specials menu." Forgot the name but it's the wet burrito with brisket. You get to choose the type of rice and beans. Both were SUPER delicious and filling!!! I was satisfied from beginning until end. Everything was packed with flavor and they didn't skimp out on the amount of meat they put in the burrito either. Tempeh was marinated well and was packed with flavor. Not only a great option for veggie lovers but also meat lovers as well! I liked how the tempeh is grilled to order. I like how they have vegetarian options here and sounds like they also have vegan options too! *two thumbs up* There are 3 small tables (with one side being a booth against the wall and then chairs on the other end). If there are people waiting for their food for take out, it's not really a place you could prob eat peacefully without feeling like someone is towering over you. It's a small cozy space. I shall be back to try the other menu items!

David John A.

Yelp
Where did Ang and I go on a rainy Cinco De Mayo in NJ? This place! We were greeted with friendly smiles, a little table and the aroma of delicious meats on the grill. Food was spot on we shared the guacamole, elotes and of course tacos. We tried 4 different kinds: -Blackened -Carnitas -Shrimp -Al pastor Really hard to say which one was better, so we can say all good! We wrapped up the dinner with some churros and a few margaritas courtesy of the establishment being BYOB!

Danny C.

Yelp
I ordered the Carne Asada burrito which was about $13 with tortilla chips included. Indoor seating was a little tight due to limited space but you can also dine outside. I came in last minute and was not pressured to eat fast and leave. I was able to take my time and enjoy my food to its fullest.

Nevio N.

Yelp
Would technically give this a 2.5 but round it up to 3. Very disappointing as I relied on the Yelp reviews to hit up this spot. Got two orders of tacos - the lengua and grilled fish tacos. For the price I expected at least a little more fish in the tacos. Flavor was alright. The lengua was a little better but not by much. It lacked seasoning but was soft. My main issue with the tacos were the corn tortillas itself. It was as if they were old and just not fresh. Adding to my negative review is the way I opened the boxes. All the food was off to one side which was strange as all I did was place them on my car seat. Girl at the counter was nice upon pickup. Overall wouldn't go back.

Dennie C.

Yelp
I wished that I had a positive review for Los Compadres because it's a cute little spot run by super friendly people but the food left a lot to be desired. I got a steak burrito for myself and the flavors were all underwhelming and my wife got Flautas with shrimp which didn't taste fresh at all. Unfortunately, they're not bringing their A game here so it's a tried it one and done situation.

Stephy G.

Yelp
A hidden gem / hole in the wall. Los Compadres is a tiny location - that seats about 6 total (only 3 small round tables inside) It's more of a take out location then anything. The staff is extremely kind and knowledgable - since it was my first time I took some time to order and had no push back. What I ended up getting was a Chicken Tinga Burrito with Cilantro Rice and a side of Guac (+$1) - they have a good assortment of add on's for reasonable prices. The burrito itself was fairly large - I really pushed myself and couldn't finish it. Also, thanks to my fellow yelpers I knew to order the empanadas which were not on their menu (I ordered 2 chicken, and one veggie with cheese) all were delicious! Also while I waited for the food, a staff member brought out a pork pupusa for me to try. I was so excited - I've never had one before, it was quite delicious especially with the pickled relish they placed on top of it. I will definitely be ordering from here again!

Jenny C.

Yelp
Got the raja taco, fish taco (fried), and la lengua taco (gringo-style). They tasted good, but I've definitely had better tacos in my life. There always felt like some flavor was missing - perhaps not enough cilantro? I would have also liked to have some utensils. Yes I eat tacos with my hands, but I'd rather not scoop up the stuff that fell out using my hands. The establishment itself is quite small with only 4 small tables. The staff there were all very kind and seemed like a tight-knit group. Note that water is not free here, so if you just say you want water with your meal, they give you a bottle for $1.

A A.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Ordered food only got 1/4 of order and owner refused to refund me my money. He offered to give me credit next time I ordered. He blamed delivery driver (said he was new). He said delivery driver would come back to give me the 3/4 of my order. Never came. So I called owner and he said he fired him. I went in person to get my money back. He wanted me to pay for delivery and fees even though I only received 1/4 of my order. I will NEVER order again!

Eric K.

Yelp
Super good! Prompt delivery within 45 min of ordering in their no-nonsense, well-working online ordering system! Their food is very reasonably priced - Chicken tinga taco ($9 for 3 tacos) + Elote ($3 for 3 short mexican corn cobbs) + Burrito al pastor with sauteed peppers extra ($9.50) cost only $26 after 15% tip. My favorite was the al pastor burrito which was succulent and delicious with the red and green salsa. Corn was pretty addictive with that sweet Oxaca cheese as well. Chicken tinga was healthy-tasting and by that I mean it was decent but not amazing (haha). I liked how their online ordering menu had an option for me to skip napkins and plastic utensils and had a comment section where I could ask them to put the 2 salsas on the side. They did exactly that, plus just 1 plastic fork and like 3 napkins. Loved it. Will gladly order again when I'm in the mood for a quick authentic Mexican food delivery! Gracias mucho, los compadres!

Tara M.

Yelp
Food was great!!!! They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions without any issues The sauces are amazing and meat so flavorful.

Anton A.

Yelp
I order from here a couple of times a month and like their food. The big problem comes from service and consistency. Two times now I've picked up an order that's missing an item. Both times it was the $14 shrimp tacos. I let it go the first time. Second time I checked the receipt which had it listed and made sure I paid for it. I called and politely asked for a refund of just those tacos. I was rudely told that he put the box in the bag and he can't do anything because it's my word against his. He's the owner. I go there multiple times a month. This is horrific customer service and just plain old robbery. He told me next time I should go through the bag when I pick it up. There won't be a next time.

Desiree R.

Yelp
Ordered delivery directly from their website and the food arrived super quick. Got some giant ass nachos with vegan ground beef, fried fish tacos, and tamarindo. It was all amazing! My partner had the chorizo taco and said it was good too. Can't wait to check out the rest of the fish & vegetarian options on the menu.

Stephen S.

Yelp
Was doing a yelping search in my area for something new to try. Stumbled upon this place. Their prices for Mexican food are not the cheapest but in fort lee, you can't really beat it. Walked here on Sunday and their tables were pretty much full. They got two outdoor seating and very limited seats inside. Small joint. I checked out their menu and photos and yelp and seems like their tacos are too Americanized in my opinion. Growing up in LA, I've had my fair share of good tacos and I'm very particular with the size of the corn tortilla and the onions and cilantro. I passed on their tacos and got a torta instead. Opted in for their special of the day which was the torta campechana. It had brisket and chorizo inside. Costs like $13. Also got an order of their empanada $4 and a horchata $3, way over priced. Took me like 10 min to walk back home and was excited to eat my lunch. My honest opinion, their hortchata doesn't tastes good. I was quite disappointed. Their empanadas was quite good, but for four bucks a pop was way over priced. Ok now comes down to my torta. When I opened it up, the bottom of my bread was a little soggy. So I guess it's best to eat it their when they freshly make it. It was quite good honestly. My first time trying a torta so I got nothing else to compare it to. The whole thing was kind of heavy so I was pretty full afterwards. I kind of wanted to give it like 3.5 stars but I don't want to be mean and I'll leave four stars hoping I'll have a better experience if I come back and try their burrito in the future. That's a maybe.
