Tuesdays are for TACOS! This is my third (maybe fourth) time going to Los Jefes and let me just tell you - TACO TUESDAY IS ALWAYS A VIBE! The DJ was amazing and the tacos are always top notch! Me and my bestie decided to treat ourselves (per usual) because we work so hard and we need to de-stress over tacos and margs!
The restaurant has 2 Taco Tuesday specials: 4 for $8 Street Tacos and Tuesday's 2 for $8 Steak & Seafood Tacos. Since we are lovers of all things steak and seafood, the 2 for $8 special was right up our alley. We ended ordering the Carne Asada Tacos, the Fried Seafood Tacos (get the Redfish, you won't be disappointed) and the Voodoo Shrimp Tacos. I literally have ZERO complaints about the tacos. The steak was tender and seasoned wonderfully. Same for the redfish and the Shrimp tacos. Full disclosure: the friend redfish tacos did pack a punch because of the jalapeños, but they were absolutely delicious. We also ended up getting the 2 for 1 house margs: my bestie got the watermelon and peach combo, which she loved, and I just did the peach (more on that later).
I know you're probably wondering, "if the food and the atmosphere was a vibe, why not give a 5-star review?' Well, it's quite simple although the food and the vibe was right, my margarita was absolutely horrible and the service was pretty bad too. I ordered the peach margarita and I should have known that it was going to be an epic fail. I am not one to knock house margaritas, but I am more of a top shelf gal, but I figured, why not. Well now I know why not. There was no peach flavor whatsoever and 3/4 of the shaker was filled with ice. But the time the drinks finally came, it was a watered down disaster. So much so, I ended up ordering the La Masia (Tito's Vodka, Peach Schnapps, PAMA Pomegranate Liquor and House Lime Mix) and it was perfect. We both ended up getting one of these.
Now the service...the server was the sweetest and she was very personable, but consistency was not her thing. When I first arrived, I got there before my friend. She did greet me and told me she would be right with me. I didn't see her again until my friend got there - which was about 15 minutes after I arrived. We had no water and no utensils. When she did come back to greet both of us, we told he we needed a minute to look over the menu. She gave us about 20 minutes. It didn't take us that long to figure out what we wanted so we just used the idle time to chat. She put the orders in and the food came out pretty quick, but that was the only thing. The first round of drinks were ordered when we ordered the food and it took a very long time for us to get them, which could have also been a contributing factor to why my drink tasted like water down crap. When we ordered the La Masia, it was the same thing. It felt like we waited at minimum 15 minutes for everything, but the food. Now, don't get me wrong, the restaurant was busy, but it wasn't a packed house like other days. Even if she would have came to check in on us periodically would have been okay.
Although the service wasn't the best, it's still a great restaurant with some great food options. If you haven't checked it out, you should try to visit. They also have different specials Monday - Thursday, so treat yourself!
