My friend and I decided we wanted to eat in Vacaville to avoid all the traffic construction in Sacramento. We opened up Yelp and clicked on Restaurants in Vacaville and Los Reyes was one of the first ones to come up. She said she had always wanted to try it, but hadn't had the chance yet!
We went on a Thursday night in the summer and were surprised to see a large gathering on the patio right outside the restaurant. Turns out it was Town Square Thursday and a live band (Quick Draw) was performing. There were taco sales outside with drinks that must have gone along with the outside event. We were having dinner to catch up so we went inside to sit instead.
We noticed the specials sign as we went in and it had some yummy options, but we decided to sit down and look at the menu instead. The hostess sat us down right away at a high-top table for 2 in the corner. Would not have been our first choice, but we planned to chat the whole time so it worked out.
The menu has a very large selection of items to order. The server took a minute to come over to us, but when he did, he brought us chips and a variety of salsas. We browsed the menu and decided to get the Taco Sampler (Five tacos: shredded chicken, shredded beef, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, onions, salsa, cilantro, lime, radish) for $14. The guac ($2.50) and sour cream ($1) were extra. My friend and I had a discussion about the silliness of this...
The server brought us over water and then soon after our food came out. The tacos were smaller than I expected, but they ended up being the perfect size. I'm not one to eat the double-tortilla, but that was the only thing I left behind on my plate! The tacos were yummy, but one of them tasted like fish to me and there were no fish tacos on the platter. Sooooo...I'm not sure which one that was. But they were all tasty. I wish the radish was sliced so that I could have included some on all the tacos. Instead they were 2 big hunks of radish, so only 2 tacos were blessed with radish.
We didn't order any alcoholic drinks so that review will be next time!
Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here: food was good (nothing blew us out of the water); ambience was good for talking and chatting (except when the door opened and band music came wafting in) and service was good (nothing exemplary). I don't know if we will come back any time soon, but more because we want to explore other restaurants in the area.
