The Best Tamales in Phoenix, 2021 - Eater Phoenix

"Some people are picky about their tamales and Los Sombreros knows how people prefer to mix and match their favorites. Choices include green corn, tomatillo chicken, rajas, carnitas, and red chile beef tamales. Also, Los Sombreros offers a tamale Phoenicians won’t likely find elsewhere in the area — a dessert tamale containing pineapple, brown sugar, and raisins. Orders can be placed by the dozen and there is an option to mix and match tamales. One dozen costs $40; orders can be placed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. now until December 24. Last pickup is at noon on December 24. Most orders need 24-hour notice." - Rudri Patel

My last stop on the Phoenix Food Tour was to try some Mexican food. The location was very nice, and the outdoor seating was decorated with wonderful decor along with beautiful murals. The waitress was very nice and brought us chips and house made salsa, then took out order. The food was delicious. We did, however, find hair in the salsa and some in the rice. Besides those incidents, everything was good. I will come back and try it again someday minus the hair.

They just reopened a few days ago from being closed during the Pandemic last year and have 2 other locations. WONDERFUL service! We were welcomed right away and asked if we would like to dine inside or out. We chose outside and the sun was setting. They turned the outdoor lights on it was very pretty. The salsa flavor is really good and they had a taco Tuesday special. I put the three tacos on one plate from the 3 bigger plank plates so it could fit in one picture and asked for side of cabbage. The flavors were amazing! Side of beans were so-so and the rice was very dry. They took it back for us and didn't charge for it. The churros and cinnamon ice cream are House made and were delicious!

The food was great! Service was great! Drinks were great! My wife and I can be pretty indecisive sometimes with choosing what to order, Adrian and Rob were spot on with their recommendations! Adrian helped us choose the queso fundido and it was delicious. Rob suggested the Steve-A-Rita for the tequila drinkers and the El Limon for the bourbon drinkers. Both were excellent! The entrees were Amazing and I’d eat vegetables all day if they tasted as good as theirs! Can’t recommend this place enough!! P.S. we had already started to dig in when I decided to take photos.

Solid offering off Camelback. Comfortable kitschy southwestern rustic vibe. Entrees are between 10 and 18 on average. Plating was pleasing. The meals I've tried so far lean heavily on sauces to impact the culinary experience. Food seemed to be a "healthier" take on New Mexico, Mexican food. Seemed lighter in comparison to a deep fried, cheesy alternative, but still left me plenty full. Service was attentive and knew their menu. Would eat there again.

Finding new gems in the valley is always a treat, this place has a very at home feel with an upscale touch. I stopped in for lunch with my wife and we had the shrimp Ceviche to start and tacos Al Pastor and the pork Pozole. The Ceviche was on point! I usually don’t like Ceviche when it’s made with too like but this was balanced and flavorful. The tacos were served flight style and packed a punch of flavor that hit all the right notes. The Pozole had a bit too many tortilla strips for my taste but I pushed some aside and dug in. The Pozole was full flavored and hardy. It was also full of authentic flavors and was just the touch of home I needed that day. Staff was friendly and the vibe was chill and inviting. A definite must try!

Nice rustic place. Had music playing. The chips and salsa were good and it’s complimentary. I got the crispy chicken tacos. They were okay. My aunt had the carnitas. They give you a lot of meat. My sister had the carne asada tacos. My brother had the pollo con espinacas, it was good, reminded me of a dish we make home. Every entree comes with your choice of 2 sides I wanted a coco loco blended without alcohol but they didn’t have a blender. They also have a patio to sit outside. Also they have a tv inside. They have a small bar area.

This place is now my favorite Mexican place. Service and food were amazing. The deco and atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Everything was made from scratch just a few hours before we came. We ordered the Carnitas and Tamles. Both delicious.

Stopped in on a hidden gem in the Arizona Valley. If your in the mood for a great selection of Mezcal complimented with an amazing meal...than definitely try this place in Phoenix. Trying their new location on camelback for the second time, because the first time was great and we had to come back!! We sat at the bar with Robb and he mixed up some great cocktails. Definitely on our list of places to cisit while in Arizona.
