Where to Dine In or Order Takeout in Houston’s Suburbs Right Now - Eater Houston

"Head to the Sugar Land location of this locally-owned spot for Tex-Mex comfort classics like sizzling fajitas by the pound and hearty combination plates. For a real feast, try one of the “Platos Especiales”, like the Acapulco dinner platter featuring a beef taco, guacamole salad, puffy queso, cheese enchilada and chili gravy-topped tamale — all for under $15. Place an order via the Los Tios website for curbside pickup." - Megha McSwain

I like how the building looks from the outside and there is a cute little patio (it was too cold to eat outside today). Walking in I was greeted right away. Chips and salsa were delivered even before I got my son in his highchair. The waiter was nice, my only complaint is I never got my refill of water. The food was good, I really enjoyed it all. I also love the lights when you first walk in the building.

The place was packed on Saturday night, but service was fast. The seafood enchiladas were delicious and price is good. Their frozen margaritas are strong, so order at your own risk! Have one .. you will feel good ! :) Every thing was nice, they even sang happy birthday to my friend. Parking does suck so you will need to walk. Highly recommend!

Party Room Review: Los Tios Restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff who made us feel right at home. The managers Vanessa and Miguel were so helpful and accommodating with meal selection and booking. The party room was perfect for our special baptism celebration. Now, let's talk about the food—wow! The fajitas fiesta buffet was sizzling and delicious, the guacamole was creamy and flavorful, and the sides of rice and beans were so good. Loved that they put food in the warmers too. The service was impeccable, with attentive waitstaff who ensured we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Truly incredible with 40 guests!! Overall, Los Tios exceeded our expectations in every way possible. We can't wait to come back and celebrate more events. Highly recommend!" Update: June 2025....amazing food again and great service even with large party of 10!

Every time we visit family we go to Los Tios and they never disappoint! My girls LOVE the puffy taco and the spinach enchiladas are anyways amazing. Today our server Merlin took such sweet care of my dad, who is a stroke survivor and has limited speech. He felt cared for and respected. She looked directly at him and asked him what he wanted, which sadly doesn’t happen at a lot of places. What a wonderful team. What a wonderful place. Thanks so much

I have had the pleasure of visiting Los Tios several times with friends during lunch hours, and I truly appreciate the vibrant atmosphere. Each visit, I notice how busy the restaurant can get, which speaks to its popularity and the love people have for the food. As soon as you walk in, the warmth of the wait staff is comforting; their friendly greetings make you feel right at home. Once you’re seated, you’re welcomed with chips and salsa, a delightful gesture that sets the tone for a wonderful meal. The menu offers a fantastic variety of lunch specials, ensuring there's something for everyone. If you're in the mood for something heartier, you can even indulge in dinner portions during lunch. Another plus is the ample parking available, making your visit stress-free. It's nice to know that such a beloved spot is accessible and ready to serve.

Grilled Snapper was extreme! Flavorful, perfectly grilled, sizzling veggie, sauce.. Chicken Fajitas was average to me.

Google
Had a Birthday party in the party room, free of charge. The margaritas are the BOMB.COM! Food is really good. Their happy food menu leaves a lot to be desired... not many options. Service was good. I've been back a few times!

Google
Sorry I don't have photos but this food is so good I eat it before I even think about taking a photo! I wish I could remember the server's name but my memory is so bad now. I am Always impressed with Katie's T-sip dip (queso appetizer) SO DELICIOUS, and the flower tortilla chips that come with it...🤌I could eat this Everyday! Then we ordered the combo chicken and beef fajita plate for two. The chicken was amazing but the beef fajita meat was pretty chewy however all the sides were plentiful and I enjoyed the chicken fajitas big time. Our waiter was top-notch he checked on us just enough to get what we needed he was he was present always and available if we did need anything he was he was right there but he wasn't bothersome while we were eating he was just you know in the distance available to flag but his service was amazing and his attitude was perfect and appreciated.

Yelp
Vanessa who always greets us is awesome. She is very professional and friendly. We've been going to Los Tios and keep coming due to great people like her. In fact she use to greet us at Meyerland and having been coming to the Sugar Land restaurant for many years now and she was at this location and was nice to see her for many years now...

Yelp
All around fantastic! My family has been enjoying the Los Tios food for at least the last four decades!, trying most of them in the Houston Area, but of course the Sugar Land spot becam our choice because that's where we call home. My wife and I are now retired and enjoy treating my younger Mom to Los Tios for a great meal and many great memories. We love just about everything about the menu, but most definitely the puffy tacos, chili' con queso, the cheese enchiladas, and my favorite has to be the complementary pecan pralines after our meal. So, please give them a try. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Like all the rest, I've been patronizing Los Tios for decades. First was your long gone Memorial Drive location, as well as the old Bissonnett location. This review will not be about your food, but the new outdoor dining area. After dinner last night I took a tumble due to the unmarked new step down to the new sidewalk area. Yeah, I should have been more aware of that new concrete extension which was added to accommodate it. Luckily I was able to get up with only a few bumps / bruises and NO BROKEN BONES! This is a law suit just waiting to happen. I would STRONGLY recommend marking this new step down with some safety marking of some type. Also, thank you to the other diners who came to my assistance should they be reading this review.

Yelp
I've been coming to Los Tíos for YEARS!! I used to bring my Memaw. I would come with St Laurence Young Adult & Father Drew. I would come with friends & family. Food is amazing - over the years, certain food have changed.. idk if it was a new cook or someone having a bad day. But 85% of the time I've come to Los Tíos. I've enjoyed my food. Enchiladas awesomeness!! Fajitas, lovely. Tacos, good. Their desserts - yummy Margaritas- love it. Server are always quick to serve you. I've never had to change a waiter down for refill.

Yelp
Great food always tastes so good. Best salsa and Charro beans not to spicy just right!

Yelp
Came here for brunch on Sunday. As expected it was busy and got busier as our time progressed. Not a huge brunch menu but I had to have their chilaquiles. The only option available was salsa verde con pollo. Not a big fan of salsa verde but went ahead with it. Great start but afterwards the salsa verde starts to get more sour. It was my fault as I should have ordered something else from their menu. Great service, dishes came put quickly and you have to enjoy their home made tortillas!

Yelp
This location has been around for decades and continues to be a popular spot in a Sugar Land for all your Texmex needs. Arrived here for lunch recently and was not disappointed. The complimentary chips and salsa was excellent, with the thin homemade chips served warm along with a green and red salsa. I went ahead and took advantage of the lunch specials, which includes a pick two option plus rice and beans. I went for the steak fajita and tostada. The plate came out piping hot. Everything was quite tasty and seasoned perfectly. The fajita meat was cooked well. I substituted the regular refried beans for refried black beans. They were also tasty and the right consistency. For about $12, it was a very good and filling lunch. Definitely worth a return!

Yelp
We ordered uber eats and he was great but food was terrible from here. No flavor Cold as fuck but I know Uber driver got her fast and on time followed all directions. Los Tios just didn't do well I guess bc I DIDNT EAT THERE. I will never order from there again

Yelp
First time there last night for dinner. The atmosphere was nice. The food was a 0 I ordered the shrimp fajitas the grilled onions were burned stuck to the plate the shrimp looked undercooked the tortillas were under cook. Not very satisfied with this place Won't be going back there again .

Yelp
Please excuse my photos lol if you know me then you know I started eating and forgot all about taking pictures. PSA Los Tios is OPEN!! I ordered a lot of food... House Guacamole, Katie's T-sip dip, Nachos Los Tios, Fajita Beef Stuffed Puffy Queso, Fajita Beef Quesadillas, Deluxe Taco Plate, and the item I was looking forward to the most Sopapillas. I'm going to start with the Bad: I was so disappointed too. The Sopapillas description states "Four lightly fried pastries, dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar". Served with caramel and honey. What I got was only dusted with cinnamon so they were spicy/tart even with the caramel and honey they were still not good. I challenge the owner or cook to try it like it was given to me to see what we experienced. If it was in fact a mistake then you all owe me an order of Sopapillas please :). Good: While I was waiting for my food I did notice who I believe to be the owner personally checking on the people dining in. $5 Margaritas was popping and must have been good because everyone had one except me lol. As far as the food everything was pretty good, but the star of the show was the stuffed puffy which was surprising and sad that I only bought one. I will be going back to dine in, try a margarita, and get better pics of the food. Still sad about my Sopapillas tho. If you order some be sure to check for that sugar and thank me later!!

Yelp
We love this place! Amazing lunch and combo specials. Lunch combos are $11, combo specials are $12 and $2 to add rice and beans. They give free chips, salsa and an avocado cream sauce. Kids meals with drinks are $6. Awesome prices, great service and selection.

Yelp
We stopped by Los Tios while running errands and overall the service was okay and our waitress was nice/attentive. The quesadillas were really greasy and the portion is much smaller and messier than the other Los Tios restaurants I've been to which was disappointing. I think we prefer going to the San Felipe location going forward based on the quality of food and overall service. They also offered free pralines but they were pure sugar. My boyfriend is obsessed with sweets and even he couldn't eat them. We appreciate the gesture so o feel bad saying that but it's my honest review on the experience.

Yelp
---Dearest Reader, I write with splendid news. Alas, I've journeyed to the Los Tios de Sugar Land (located just off Highway 6 trail). It appears that the smash burger also traveled well. The quality of not only the native Tex-Max cuisine but also that of the burger are mirror images of their sister outposts. One full score ago, as a young lad, I can recall fond memories of dining at this fine establishment. Nothing has changed. The food and service has remained the same 100% amazing. Please, please please give this restaurant and their amazing smash burger a try. There is nothing better than a burger and a margarita!! Until next time, ---Mitchell

Yelp
Food is to diieee for im so sad that I cannot remember my servers name but he was the sweetest ever and even gave my daughter some free cookies when she didn't want to eat anything which cheered her up I love the street tacos and am ashamed to say I eat here maybe once or twice a week. Overall environment is very peaceful not at all loud like other restaurants I 110% recommend

Mark G.

Yelp
Perfectly prepared Tex-Mex reminiscent of my old favorite LOMA LINDA on Telephone Rd. I am addicted to that "PUFFED UP CHEESE TOSTADA"! Friendly and efficient staff, food is consistent and served hot and fresh, and the affordable prices make dining out more frequent for us. Very attractive interior and ample "NON-VALET" parking top off the enjoyable experience!

Yelp
We were a party of 13 and Los Tios did not disappoint! The food was great, the staff was very attentive and I was so impressed with how quickly they seated us....especially the Saturday before Mother's Day.

Yelp
We enjoy eating at this location. The food and drinks are always great. Tanya the manager is very welcoming and makes sure you feel at home and everything is great! We will be back!

Yelp
I am traveling for working and found Los Tios on Google! I ordered Chicken Fajitas, very moist, with corn and flour tortillas, which by the way are homemade. The guac was excellent super fresh! The icing on the cake was the garlic butter to dip the fajita in! You know salsa and chips sells a Mexican restaurant! Both of these were really good! I told my server, Edith, it was my first time and she delivered a cup of queso. So unexcepted and yummy!

Katherine T.

Yelp
My husband and I always go to Pappasito's but find it very expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. So we decided to try Los Tios and were greatly disappointed in the food. The fajitas were below par, barely seasoned and marinated. The rice was so so and the refried beans were indistinguishable, very gray with no flavor. I think the beans were full of lard. I will say the service was extremely good. We have lived in the area since 1986, and I don't think we will try Los Tios again. I convinced my husband to go there because I get to-go orders of the puffy tacos, my favorite., and extremely satisfying.

Yelp
My wife and I ordered enchiladas tonight and dinner was great. Service a little slow but good. On the table was a sign for free chips and queso. Just show your volunteer badge or ticket to the Houston Rodeo. The waiter didn't know about it. He brought the manager over who said that that promotion didn't start until the 27" and today was the 23rd. That was explained in small print at bottom of the card. I over reacted at first but apologized. I think the date should be displayed as part of the advertisement. We go regularly to Los Teos. The item is about $6.00. If I were the manager I would have comp it. But the manager didn't just said I didn't have to be so rude. I apologized. Then posted this message. Needless agitation.

Yelp
If you go to los tios, ask for Romer. He is attentive and friendly. Food was amazing and house margaritas are the best in town!!!

Yelp
Very average, if not below average, food. Had their lunch combo cheese enchilada and "puffy queso" and husband had the crunchy taco and puffy queso combo and both combos came with "avocado salad". The cheese enchilada was flavorless and small. The crunchy taco was what you'd expect it to be. The puffy queso was the biggest joke, however. It is a tortilla fried till it's puffy and topped with what tasted like Velveeta cheese - tasted very artificial, not authentic, and VERY salty. It was clearly different cheese from their cheese enchilada which surprised me the most. Sad they didn't think to use authentic Mexican cheese for this as they boast it is their restaurant's special. The "avocado salad" was also laughable, it is a scoop of mashed avocados on top of shredded taco lettuce. For $11 a combo this felt like a huge rip off. I could easily make this meal for cheaper at home. Not giving this a one-star mostly because I've had worse food (hard to believe).

Tassia F.

Yelp
Our first experience at a Mexican restaurant in TX and Los Tios did not disappoint. Jesus was our server and was extremely amazing. The food was delicious and greatly portioned. Margarita was also strong and good. Definitely recommend and will go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great customer service!! The guacamole was fresh and you couldn't just have one bite it was that good. I can't dock points for the rice as I'm very picky about Mexican rice. I like it squishy and saucy; whereas most don't like it that way. This rice had really good flavor though. Had enchiladas banderas. The green sauce was the best. The team had a really good experience and really enjoyed their lunch.

Yelp
Had dinner with husband and friends here this week. I was so disgusted when they served me my tortilla soup. First it was cold so sent that back then when they served it to me again it had absolutely no taste. It was a brown broth with just a few tiny pieces chicken with cheese. That was it. No rice no veggies nothing!!! I have never had tortilla soup like this before. What a disappointment. However there was avocado on the side.

Yelp
This is our to go place at l or 2times a week! Even though it's Tex Mex food, it is our comfort food! The service is great not to exclude the food you will always want to come back! I recently was there with a friend now she told me it's her favorite also!

Stacy E.

Yelp
Worst customer service at the bar. Told they were busy. Lady on the phone said 10-15 mins

Beatriz H.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service! Looking forward to going back on a Friday during happy hour.
google avatar

Grace G.

Yelp
The food here was good! I got the stuffed puffy queso, with Mexican rice, and my friend for the taco bowl with Mexican rice. Both meals came out very fast and the portions were large. The food was good, but nothing that really stood out. Our service was fast and waiter was nice. We got seated extremely promptly despite a very busy restaurant.

Marcus C.

Yelp
Great food and service for the past 30+ years. Best place for Tex-Mex. Had a b-day celebration there recently and the staff was superb. And, the rice and frijolitos refritos were side by side on the plate! Muy bueno!
google avatar

Klash H.

Yelp
I have ordered a few times. The refried beans taste like they are from the can. The bulk tacos that come with just onion and cilantro were good. We ordered them for our new year's party. The chicken taco salad had rotten lettuce. The amount of chicken in the salad was too little for an actual meal. I also didn't like they add super basic queso to it. It made it soggy. Sorry I didn't take pictures.

Teresa G.

Yelp
Service is always good!Great atmosphere! Good food! Drinks a little pricey! Can't complain!!

Sharon G.

Yelp
My husband and I have been loyal customers of Los Tios for years! There is a young lady by the name of Jaede Albert-Garcia who gives us "stellar"service whenever we eat there. She is always professional at her job and yet she is kind, courteous and willing to please her customers. She has been working with us for quite a long while and I apologize for not bringing attention to management on what a treasure they have in her. Jaede has surpassed our expectations by putting Los Tios in Sugar Land on the map by her professionalism and her willingness to help anyone who needs her. We thank Los Tios for hiring such a talented young lady as Jaede!

G K.

Yelp
Updating review co dinner service is very good. Had the veggie fajita and they gave me a good set of veggies grilled perfectly. Waiter was very attentive and kind. One suggestion I have is this: when grilling veggies please take care to wipe the grill free of any meat pieces. When I brought home leftovers the veggies had a something I didn't recognize as a vegetarian, so I had to throw food away. Taking away one star for that.
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
OMGOSH!! The new Cali Rosa spicy margarita at Los Tios is spectacular!! It is the perfect mix of heat, citrus, and salt; and according to Reyes the bartender is award winning. Gold medal in our book!!
google avatar

Tenny P.

Yelp
I've enjoyed Los Tios for ages. I am officially done supporting such a greedy business. They now charge a 5% paper fee for to-go orders. I also ordered 4 plates only to be given two small cups of salsa and one small bag of chips. They continue to nickel and dime customers while providing less and less for your money. I'm already paying well over $50 for my food. I shouldn't be charged for the container that the food is in.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Ordered a mixed drink from the menu and they didn't have one of the ingredients. Ordered a bottle beer from the menu and they were out. Got a draft beer. Neither new was 'good', both our Chicken fajitas and my combination plate were lacking flavor. Seemed to have spent a long time under a heat lamp. The melted cheese was terrible. It's a great atmosphere and cool decor and friendly staff but that means nothing without food food! I was disappointed because there are plenty of other places to eat. Don't recommend and I will not be back.

Natalie L.

Yelp
Absolutely love Los Tios! Our go to Mexican spot in Sugar Land! Their Rita's are the best and strong! Food is always delicious and never disappoints. The manager, waiters and bartenders are friendly and we always have the best service.

L J.

Yelp
Best food and fresh. Service fast and felt right at home. Drinks were excellent. Overall, loved everything.

Alicia H.

Yelp
This Los Tios location in Sugarland Texas should have a sign that reads no African Americans allowed. I was treated so rudely and with extreme prejudice by bar staff (Bella) and manager Vanessa on 2 different occasions. Bella has horrible customer service and because of other parons whom are considered "regulars" I was attacked and singled out. Vanessa came out to the table where I was sitting with my friends, to tell me that she was limiting my order. She was very unprofessional and ostracized me while making my friends feel very un wanted and uncomfortable. However the exact limitations were not placed on the aggressors (two caucasian wife and husband) who were drinking excessively and verbally attacked me, calling me a bitch and making a scene. This is an unfair and racist establishment. AND I have it on video and I took pictures.

Calee F.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick family dinner. We were seated promptly and margaritas & Modelo's were quickly served with chips & salsa. This was a nostalgic visit for my Brother-in-law, who had fond memories of Los Tios growing up in Memorial. All he could talk about was the puffy queso, so he ordered the Acapulco combo and his son ordered a combo plate that included the puffy queso. In addition, a Pechuga Monterrey. Portions are good, and food was hot and tasty. Everyone loved their food and drinks and service was excellent. A great neighborhood restaurant. The restaurant was clean and well organized.

Adam B.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place! I've been going to this restaurant for the last few years since my move here, and it's now my main go-to restaurant in the area. I'm dining in here or ordering take-out weekly from here since I don't cook. Los Tios is wonderful, classic Tex-Mex food. Tonight, I had the #6 (queso puff, taco and cheese enchilada) and a schooner grand gold margarita. Their grand gold margaritas are the best! The food is always great and consistent. The staff are always wonderful as well. Reyes was our server tonight and he is fantastic! He always remembers what I usually order and is always energetic and fun to talk to. Reyes recently won a margarita competition, so I'll be back within a week to try his award winning margarita. If you enjoy Mexican food, this place shouldn't disappoint.

Mary T.

Yelp
I have been going to this Los Tios location for years. Fajitas and queso and margaritas are always great. Their grilled redfish and veggies is the best I've had anywhere. Cerviche is so good too. The place has taken on a certain "Cheers" feel - where you meet friends and share good times. Atmosphere is great and the music adds so much to that. Stay great - we'll keep coming!
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I had a delightful lunch with my daughter and granddaughter, we discovered this place quite by accident. We were hungry and at a nearby shop. The menu was extensive, and the food was absolutely delicious! The staff was exceptional and very friendly. The manager even welcomed us for our first visit with another complimentary cheese puff for my granddaughter. We had a very enjoyable lunch and look forward to returning soon!

Yelp
I've always been a big fan of Los Tios. They have a good kids selection and adult menu. My favorite are their combo plates. Their option #2 is my go to for dinner. They've also got a great menu for happy hour!

Sharon G.

Yelp
Last night was the straw that broke the camels back. We have had ANOTHER racially motivated incident at Los Tios in Sugar Land Texas. We experienced another slap in the face by the bartender Juan Reyes. According to what we have been told in the past, you can't make reservations at that establishment unless it's large party of people. The other tale was that they don't make reservations at all! This is what "we" were told. We went to have dinner last night and as I made my way to a vacant table, Juan Reyes jumped in front of me blocking my way. He then told me "This table is reserved" after that he pointed his finger in my face almost knocking into me and indicated a booth on the other side of the room. He then stated "You sit there"! After that he walked away and I took a seat at the bar and waited for my husband to take a seat next to me. My husband then told me that he did not want to sit at the bar and we relocated to a table in the back of the restaurant. Frustrated and angry we spoke to a manager that was new to the restaurant and we expressed or feelings on what had transpired earlier. After hearing what we had to say he apologized and said that he would speak to his immediate supervisor. We couldn't believe that Juan Reyes was still treating us like second hand citizens and getting away with it. I gave an earlier review as to how he had given us bad service and continued to work there like it is a common everyday practice. I was NEVER contacted by management or anyone else. Obviously, Los Tios embraces this type of racist behavior because this man hasn't been chastised or put on notice since his last incident with us. I highly doubt that the owner of Los Tios will respond to this report either. As my husband and I were discussing the issue when we approached another manager and told her what happened. The excuse we were given was the customer that the table had been reserved for was a "friend" of the owner. That made the situation worse because we know the people that the table was reserved for. These people have been frequenting Los Tios just as long as they we have and in the past they had to wait in line just like us. So the "story" that they were friends of the owner was nothing but an excuse and a blatant lie. We aren't the only Black people that he has dismissed. I will not disclose the person's name, but I will say that while waiting for a seat at the bar he was put at the "back" of the line while white and Hispanic people that came in after him were seated first. We witnessed the whole thing as it happened. So, there's no one that can convince me that this "man" isn't a racist and that he intentionally puts other people that are friends of his before anyone else. My question is this, "When will Los Tios do the right thing and address this issue"? They probably won't. I do know that word of mouth is very productive when a business is good or bad. I will be sure to let my Black friends, neighbors and anyone else looking to being treated with respect at a Mexican restaurant know that Los Tios is NOT the place to go.

Roxana R.

Yelp
Best Mexican restaurant, we love the food and the service is top notch. I love everyone that works there. Thank you
