The 14 Best BBQ Spots In Dallas - Dallas - The Infatuation

"Vaquero’s recently graduated from a food truck at Hop & Sting Brewery to a shiny new storefront in Allen. You could go solely for the icy margaritas and hickory-smoked meats (the citrusy, garlicky cochinita pibil puts typical pulled pork to shame), but then you’d have to sheepishly explain how you missed the quesabirria tacos glistening with savory beef consomme. And how you skipped the Tlaquepaque tacos featuring smoked baracoa on corn tortillas bathed in dark, spicy salsa. And you don’t want that." - kevin gray, nick rallo, rosin saez

After watching the bulls come through the Stockyards, our group of 10+ was looking for a place to cool down and enjoy some good food. You really can’t go wrong with Mexican food in Texas, and Los Vaqueros didn’t disappoint. Despite our large party, we were seated fairly quickly, and the waitstaff took great care of us. Even with the crowd, our food arrived promptly, while the rest of the restaurant remained relatively empty. We ordered the brisket tacos, which were moist and flavorful, though they could definitely benefit from some kind of sauce to elevate the taste. The rice was fantastic, but unfortunately, the beans were underwhelming. The queso was a letdown, it tasted like the powdered, rehydrated kind you get at ballparks, leaving something to be desired. On the bright side, the salsa was excellent and looked freshly made, adding a nice, authentic touch to the meal. Overall, a great experience with room for a few improvements.

We celebrated my wife Daniela’s 48th birthday at Los Vaqueros, and it was a wonderful experience. Even with part of our group arriving late, our waiter was fantastic at accommodating everyone. The food was delicious, the prices very fair, and the service outstanding. A special surprise was when another waiter came over and sang Las Mañanitas for Daniela — such a heartfelt touch that made the night unforgettable. Thank you, Los Vaqueros, for helping make her birthday so special!

Not worth the time. Ate her with some of my daughter’s friends while we were Stockyards. Should have just driven elsewhere. Made reservations, checked in; 20 minutes later checked in again and was told they didn’t realize we had checked in. (Should have been our first clue to go elsewhere)Finally were seated, ordered drinks for the table as well as queso and guac. Queso was cold drinks now empty; serve nowhere to be found. Finally comes back to take our orders, place those ask for refills and chips to try the guac. Part of our tables entrees arrive; while the others are MIA. Enchiladas arrive cold. Still missing 3 entrees. She comes to check on us, we ask about other items as well as refills on waters and new chips as soda as she spilled soda in container. Twenty minutes later, other entrees arrive. No refills on items. I just asked for the check. Teens said we should have just gone to Taco Bell food would have been possibly better, drinks refillable, and better chance of having even warm-ish food.

OMG, this place is the best for Mexican at the Stock Yard. Went somewhere else yesterday and was so upset, but my faith in Fort Worth has been restored. I had Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada, Beef Enchilada, a Taco with rice and beans. They were spectacular. My wife had the Tequila Chicken Tacos with Charro Beans. She loved them. We also started with the Chili Con Queso which was good as well. Everyone stop going to the other place, the patio isn't worth it!! Come here instead, you won't regret it. Then you can walk the Stock Yard or go dance at Billy Bob's, however you choose to work it off, it will be with the trip.

We went here as a party of 16 for my adult daughter's birthday on a Saturday around 6:30 pm. They seated us as soon as the majority of our party was there, which was right away. We did have a reservation. The service was amazing (and the place was hopping!). Angie S was our server with a lot of help from others and she was fantastic. Always came to check with me. Made great suggestions. The chip and salsa bowls were never empty. She took our orders right away. The drinks and food came out quickly. The people working there from the front desk, to the servers, to the wonderful singer who sang to my daughter for her birthday were all great. Very good food and perfect for a large party. The prices were very reasonable. There were many menu items to choose from. Everyone had a great time! We are so appreciative of everyone at Los Vaqueros for making our celebration a wonderful time!!

Google
We had a large group of 22 to celebrate my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary, and working with the banquet manager was so easy. All of the details were taken care of and our waiter, Jose, was never far away. He took care of as well. The enchiladas were the best I’ve ever had. Super impressed with This restaurant, including their amazing new location.

Google
I made a reservation after a previous visit and was given a 6:15 time slot. However, I wasn’t given the option to choose between indoor or outdoor seating. When we arrived, we were immediately led outside into the 90-degree heat. We asked to be seated inside and were told it would be a 20–30 minute wait, despite having a reservation. For a small restaurant, it seems the focus is more on accommodating larger parties. Unfortunately, the warm, family-oriented atmosphere I once loved at Los Vaqueros seems to have been lost in this new location. The quality and experience just didn’t feel the same.

Google
Love this place. Very down to earth place. Good music and the best chips and salsa! Overall ALL the food here I have tried has been good. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming. Did I mention the chips and salsa!? Will return every time I'm in the vicinity. Greatness.

Yelp
We had another beautiful evening at Fort Worth's Los Vaqueros. I ordered the brisket tacos with double beans and my husband had chicken tacos. We ate every bite! The tacos were juicy but not greasy. The beans were tasty and flavorful. The chicken tacos came with a side of vegetables and a green sauce. It was all very tasty! I enjoyed a margarita swirl and the complimentary chips n salsa while we awaited our meal. The salsa is to die for! The server was hospitable and checked on us often enough. The restrooms are clean and there is paid parking ($10) in a nearbyish lot, unless you find a spot on the streets nearby. Drop your elderly people or disabled as close as possible, then go park. In other words there is some walking involved , but it's not that big of a deal. We enjoyed the walk after a good dinner. Put your boots n hats on and enjoy Cowtown!

Yelp
Solid location. Great venue. Amazing staff. Above average food. Our table really enjoyed the experience and would gladly come back!

Yelp
On a Thursday evening, 2 parties in the whole place. Leaving the original building, first mistake but the new location, what an awful experience getting to the restaurant. Pay to park, walk a mile just not great. The service was good food just okay good margaritas. Probably won't be back to this location.
google avatar

Venicia Y.

Yelp
The food and service was beyond my expectations!! Their house margarita with a tajin rim was my favorite! The chicken enchiladas with their savory cram sauce is the best I have had in along time. Salsa is authentic and so good with their complementary chips!! Restaurant to stop by at the stock yards!!
google avatar

Kelli T.

Yelp
We were a party of 8 and we were seated right away on a Saturday at 2 PM. Armando was our server and not only was he very efficient and friendly, he was a lot of fun!! The chips and spicy salsa were excellent. I ordered the two spinach and mushroom enchiladas, which were delicious! I love the new location and building; it's huge! Park in the lot near Cooper barbecue instead of the Stockyards lot; you will save $12.73!!

Kelly F.

Yelp
The staff here is amazing. Very attentive. The food and drinks are great. The only advice I would give is to turn down the lights to make it a better ambiance.
google avatar

Dylan W.

Yelp
The food was pretty dang bad. Soggy, not flavorful, and just bleeehhhh. Service was kind of the same. Wouldn't recommend anything about this place, unfortunately

Yelp
Came to celebrate my brothers birthday and the restaurant itself is beautiful and big very spacious and clean. We had a big group of 17 so I was grateful for all the space we had. Our waiter was great he was very attentive and quick to help or get whatever we needed. The food was probably the most unexciting thing of this restaurant which is very disappointing. My husband and I ordered the fajitas for two to try them out and the serving sizes were small just about enough for one person. The beef wasn't tender enough and the shrimp had an awful gas taste to it. We were happy with the chicken but the rest was not tasty as we hoped. The rice was a bit dry and the tortillas are so small. Just overall it wasn't for us. We hear the drinks are great but since we don't drink we can't really verify that for ya. It was good but not great enough to go back.

Yelp
First, Our waiter, Jesus, should teach a master class in serving. He was flaw. less. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu. He brought us hot, fresh and home made tortillas chips that were perfect in every way. I ordered the Pesacado Vera Cruz. It came with a con queso sauce that I thought would be way too heavy. (I live in the north East where they overdo everything!) It was perfection! Perfectly grilled onion slices and avocado.... Heavenly! Fish was grilled Mahi Mahi. Our waiter recommended traditional Mexican dinner for my husband. Another triumph of authentic Tex Mex cuisine. Highly recommend this fun, family friendly, authentic restaurant!

Yelp
Are here before midnight tell practice sept 2024. Able to get in quickly for the 3 of us despite massive crowds. My fajitas had a different and interesting marinade on it, didn't love but wasn't terrible. We also got chicken quesadillas. Vibe was awesome and packed to the brim with Aggies! Margs great!
google avatar

Pam P.

Yelp
Excellent flavors, great salsa, nice and spicy, great guacamole, super tasty carne asada, great service.
google avatar

Richie M.

Yelp
Sooo glad they moved across the street, next door to Billy Bob's! I have visited this restaurant for years. Same tasty Tex-Mex as always. Friendly service! Fair warning, it's loud and crowded on BB concert nights!
google avatar

David Lee C.

Yelp
First off, the food: 1) The fajitas were primo! Probably the best chicken fajita meat I have had in years. 2) The kids meals were very good. Service: They were serving between 120 to 140 when we were there, which was dangerously close to their capacity. From the moment they took my order (I was the last of the 7 of us), the food was on the table in 22 minutes. The wait staff were efficient, and seemed to help each other when needed. Nice to see that kind of cooperation. Especially in a busy establishment! It is a nice looking place. The 'ambiance,' if you could call it that, is 'clean and uncluttered.' All of that is why they got 5-stars! Now let me give you a couple of hints that you REALLY NEED to take SERIOUSLY!!! 1) Make a reservation. We arrived a tad late for ours and it took about 20 minutes to be seated. The folks who arrived when we did without a reservation were told they had a two hour wait. 2) This place is next-door to Billy Bob's, so you need to plan on arriving at least 20 minutes early so you can make your way through the crowd.

Yelp
It was ok, not great and it's lost a lot of personality with the move. Used to be a go to spot for my wife and I along with Joe T's. We will be going to Joe T's more often than not when we hit the stockyards for a meal.

Mary A.

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriend and the food taste was not that great. The cheese sauce tasted like gravy. The service was not great doubt I'll be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Lacey R.

Yelp
Amazing food, prompt and friendly service. The new location feels a bit more corporate and less like a TexMex vibe, but it's clean and convenient, and the food never disappoints!
google avatar

Tara G.

Yelp
Yummy. Back at original location. Great service by Z in bar while waiting for friends. Then at table waiter (missed his name) was also good. Love this location and will be sad when it does move. For one thing the parking I feel is easier here than when the move nearer Billy Bobs. We will see.
google avatar

Enrique U.

Yelp
I was there for our friend's birthday dinner--the food was good, but getting there is a nightmare. We had to pay $20 for valet parking since there is not an actual parking lot for it. The service was ok; it was a private event, so I guess it's a bit different. The ambiance was way too loud. The long walk to get there and us having to pay for parking just to be closer does not help the cause.
google avatar

Yelp
Food...great food and appetizers! Queso blanco and black bean dip were amazing! Only my second time and would like to try some other stuff. Service...waiter was nice and kept drinks full. He was attentive. Ambiance...the decor of the building was awesome. The old stockyards building they moved to is nice! Everything was clean including the ladies room.

Kenna M.

Yelp
The environment was spectacular, especially for my friends birthday!! There was a live band and they sang to her! José was a fantastic waiter who provided us the best service. Definitely recommend for the lively patio experience!

Cole S.

Yelp
Went with a large group on a Wednesday night. Waited an hour for our food even though the place was mostly empty The food was not good. My chicken was dry and tough. The queso was from a can. The waiter was very nice but he did not come to our table very often. Everyone's food was very poor quality for the price.
google avatar

Qiana D.

Yelp
Had a farewell luncheon for a coworker here and the food was very good. I ordered the tamale pie lunch special, which was a generous serving and very delicious!! The restaurant's decor included some very interesting Tex-Mex memorabilia. Great service as well. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rome K.

Yelp
Anytime we're in the stockyards, Los Vaqueros is an absolute must! The food is always consistently delicious, their staff is amazing and drinks are great! We love the open seating and their party rooms are perfect for big groups :)

Sean S.

Yelp
Would never recommend. Food was lack luster at best. Drinks were mediocre. We sat for about 10 minutes before our server came by and when he finally did he put down salsa and didn't come back for another 10 minutes. After waiting forever our drinks were wrong. We finally got our food and yikes. My boyfriend ordered the Carne Asada and it was so bad that he had to cut it up into little pieces and soak it in the beans to eat it. I got the tequila chicken tacos and they were very mediocre. If we weren't starving we would have returned the food and left without eating. 0/10.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday and it was super busy but even still, the service was fantastic. Our waitress Elena was wonderful and so sweet! Great food and great experience.

David

Yelp
Food was just ok but service was horrible. Had a great location, very disappointed too many options in Fort Worth to return
google avatar

Robbie H.

Yelp
Great food good service. Tasty margaritas. Will go back, we haven't been to the new location yet.

Jeff R.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Old school Tex Mex with great tamales, beef tacos and tacos Al carbon. And the salsa and queso are fantastic!

Emma G.

Yelp
I came here and ordered the Susana's Special Dinner The Two Enchiladas tasted like crap "I BARFED" The waitress didn't come back too our table often she was too busy talking too other staff. I doubt I'll be back here.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
This place is just location, location, location. The food has never been much to rave about, and the waiters always seem to be in a rush. The margaritas were bland, and they charge $2 extra if you get it spicy- meaning they put a few jalapenos in it. They upcharge everything. I ordered the burrito dinner, and there was an extra charge for chicken, even though it was not mentioned on the menu. When I asked the waiter about it, he just shrugged. My advice is to leave this restaurant to the tourists and check out any fabulous small Mexican places all over Northside.

Carrie M.

Yelp
My family (9) went there for my cousin's birthday. It was first time eating at the new location. It was bright and open and had a classier feel. Service was good/adequate. In general, the food was done per the order and was served hot. However, what they call chili con carne is more like a bean colored gravy. It did NOT that chile red color and did NOT have chunks of meat in it. And, it did NOT look appetizing or appealing at all. In fact, my husband thought it was horrible and only took two bites of his enchiladas. When the waitress asked if everything was OK, we told her that the chile con carne was terrible, but she never sent the manager over. The salsa, chips, queso, chimichanga and fajitas were pretty good. Please work on your chile con carne!

Yelp
owner is now messaging me about my review. asking if i am a vendor? lol. what does that even mean? if i could post a picture of my toilet after eating here, then i would. triggered explosive diarrhea, as i recall

Tom T.

Yelp
an awesome meal. seated 12 of us quickly and the food was excellent. Get the Blanca Queso. John was our server.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Food is underwhelming for price. Would not eat here again. Stuffed jalapeños are tiny slices and have about 1tsp ground meat, topped with melted cheese. Rice is dry, and charro beans just ok.
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
Los Vaqueros is a great family owned business that has been a staple in the community for over 40 years.
google avatar

Jane R.

Yelp
I was very excited to visit since my granddaughter raved about this place. No complaints as we walked in the door except it took 10 minutes for our server to come greet us. We noticed the young man's attitude was very negative and when we tried to order an appetizer and drinks he rolled his eyes and went to speak with a group of girls behind him. The young man that I later learned is named John, seemed to be actively avoiding our table and preferred to be talking to the young ladies who worked there. Very unprofessional. If you visit please make sure to not ask for him unless you are a girl then he might actually want to do his job.
google avatar

Nikki A. J.

Yelp
Pretty good stuff happening here! I should've did my review right away since they took such great care of my fellow coworkers and I after a long morning of exploring the Fort Worth Stockyards. The food, especially my spinach and mushrooms enchiladas, was pretty good. It's definitely worth a return visit! Happy eating, Fort Worth!
google avatar

Elisa C.

Yelp
New location is very stark and not cozy as previous location. Parking was not close, but in Billy Bob's back lot. I loved my chile relleno dinner except for a corn dish I wasn't familiar with. Wait person had almost no work with a tiny crowd.
google avatar

Leonardo B.

Yelp
Tacos de Birria--Tender, flavorful, and paired well with the consommé. The rice and beans were a solid addition. Margarita--Excellent! Well-balanced, refreshing, and just the right amount of citrus and tequila.Chips & Salsa--A great starter! The chips were crispy, and the salsa had a nice, fresh texture. I would recommend this place if you're in the mood for some good Mexican food.

Stephen S.

Yelp
Boy do i miss the old location! This new location is beautiful, but so unorganized! Here's the t.... #1. No drink menu. How can you not have a menu for the biggest profit center in your operation. #2. Bartender showed general unawaraness of what was going on. She was super nice, just not trained. Here is your free script for when someone walks up to the bar that will let you earn $$$$ in tips. "Howdy, will you be dining at the bar or just grabbing drinks." - If the customer says dining at the bar, immediatly grab silveware and sit it in front of them. - EIther way, immediatly say "we have fresh "XYZ" that makes a great "XYZ drink" (insert highest margin drink here), would you like to try one of these or is there something else you prefer?" - (take drink order) "I'll get those going right now, and someone is on there way with warm chips and salsa, can I put in some of our housemade guac or queso for you to snack on?" #3. We ate (or should I say didn't eat) at the bar. Food came lukewarm, and only got colder as we waited for silverware. We split one meal for two and did not eat 20% of it. #4. Food was not good at all. Underseasoned and not of good quaility. Won't be back, there are too many other great options in Fort Worth.

Yelp
When you walk in you might think you are walking into a antique shop but you are in the right place. Lots of seating and has two areas that I can see for semi private group dinner. They have the tables to accolade multiple parties of 10. Chips are warm. Salsa has a small kick served cold in a mason jar with small bowls to pour your desired amount. I started with a skinny margarita it was as good as if I made it at home. For dinner I got the shrimp diablo enchiladas. The salsa on it had a great flavor. I did wish the enchiladas had more shrimp. They were small pieces along with mushroom, celery, onion and bell pepper. Half way through I took all the inside of the enchiladas out so I could finish eating the protein and when I started eating it, it had a smoky flavor which I didn't taste when I ate it all together in the tortilla. The black beans didn't have much flavor. My fiancé got one chicken and ground beef burrito. The chicken had a little flavor but the ground beef didn't have any. It's a good spot if you want Tex-mex but not authentic Mexican food.

Delilah J.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the service was great, the ambiance was wonderful and shawn(our server) he was so kind and polite.

Richard K.

Yelp
27+ years we have been dining and enjoying Los Vaqueros. Last night we visited their new location for the first time. First, there is no parking, you have to pay to park and walk 5 minutes to the restaurant. Inside has become cold, it has lost it's charm. Much smaller, loud (had a difficult time holding a basic conversation at our table with my wife). There was a dog setting at the bar on a stool, staring at us as we ate. Service was poor and I did not recognize any of the servers from the past. Food was still good but portions have become much smaller. Margarita was served in a water glass mostly filled with ice. It looks as if they are catering to the tourist and no longer the customers that supported them for so many years. Los Vaqueros has lost it's charm and a long time customer.

Lexi M.

Yelp
Google maps took us to the old location. We sat at our table for 15 mins with a reservation time before being helped. Drinks and food were average. Tried to order twice and was told they were out of what we wanted at 6:30 pm on a Friday. Third time ordering I asked for corn tortillas and my tacos came out on flour so unfortunately the whole plate had to be swapped due to an allergy. It was incredibly loud and bright - checkout was not great, the card reader on the toast device did not work so I paid in cash. Probably just an off night but overall not the dinner experience I was expecting from a night in the stockyards and will be sure to plan ahead better next time for elsewhere.
google avatar

Melissa V.

Yelp
God is good all the time. My besties Mom went to be with Jesus. Her family invited everyone for dinner at Los Vacqueros. This is a staple restaurant in the Stockyards. If you have not been here, add it to your places to try. The salsa was so tasty, Beef fajitas were seasoned and portioned well. They were also very tinder. Beans were flavorful. Loved how the rice was cooked but, it was a little cool. The atmosphere is just beautiful. My cup overflows with blessings. (Psalm 24:5).
google avatar

K S.

Yelp
Great location but they are moving soon I believe. Service was decent and the food was really tasty
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
This restaurant is in the Stockyards and serves authentic Mexican food. It has classic cowboy decor. We were given chip to start and then ordered the ground beef queso dip. For our meal, my friends and I shared the beef, chicken and shrimp combo fajitas. I also had a cheese enchilada. Everything we had was great and we were so full. Looking forward to coming back here in my next trip!
google avatar

Luis R.

Yelp
I recently dined at Los Vaqueros in Fort Worth with a group of 35 people and unfortunately, the experience was not good. The restaurant was not prepared for such a large group, and it took them over 2 hours to provide us with our receipts. We finished our meal at around 7:30 pm and didn't leave the restaurant until 9:30 pm which is an excessive amount of time to spend at a restaurant while waiting for our checks. The staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, and the service was slow and unresponsive. which detracted from the overall experience. The food was decent, but nothing special, and the portions were o.k. for the price. The atmosphere was noisy and crowded, and the decor was dated and uninviting. In terms of the food, I ordered the shrimp, chicken, and beef combo fajita, which was just okay. Unfortunately, by the time the tortillas arrived, I had already finished my meal, so the full fajita experience was less than satisfactory. Overall, I would not recommend Los Vaqueros for large groups or anyone looking for a good dining experience. The restaurant is not prepared to handle large groups and the service is slow. The food is decent, but nothing special, and the atmosphere is noisy and uninviting.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant and the service was very professional but the food was very lackluster, flavorless. We were hoping to enjoy a nice lunch and the only thing that was actually tasty was my Negro Modelo. Our first visit and we were hoping to have pleasant lunch but I guess we were hoping for something special. It was like going to a touristy location (ex:Disneyland) and ordering Mexican food then getting exactly this. Definitely not going back.
