"Lost Dog is primarily known for its pizzas and sandwiches (well, and its waffle fries), but the Virginia mini-chain also always has chili and veggie chili by the cup or the bowl. Online ordering here." - Missy Frederick

I went to a Lost Dog pizza deli with a couple of people on my coaching staff. I’ve never been to a lost dog before, but I truly enjoyed myself. There is a section where they have a diverse selection of craft beers, another section for seating to order pizza and subs/sandwiches, and a cafe. Our bartenders, Pam and Dave, did a great job hosting us during our visit. They’ve been in operation for 38 years now. In 2001, they started a rescue for dogs and cats. They have a very diverse selection of pizza and sandwiches. I look forward to going back.

Ordered via “Uber Eats” tonight. Talk about a restaurant that supports our fur babies. Lost Dog Cafe has an amazing story on how and what it’s purpose of existence. Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation is a major part of the Lost Dog Cafe, with generous donations and part of the restaurant goes to fund our precious four legged friends. So when you support Lost Dog Cafe, you’re support our local animals. The food is out of this world, check out the Westover sandwich, you will enjoy it from start to the last bite!

Google
Great place. The staff is wonderful. It would be better if the restaurant/bar had its own entrance. The takeout register crowd sometimes inadvertently blocks the way. But that is a very slight critique. It does not stop me from returning. I love all the sandwiches & the great rotating beer selection.

Google
Great place to enjoy craft beer, local and international with the most consistently delicious pizzas, sandwiches and burgers. Service is always top notch and prices have remained reasonable. Thank you Lost Dog!

Google
This place is outstanding! Amazing atmosphere, delicious food, reasonable price, incredible beer selection! The bar tender was very knowledgeable and helps us pick out what we loved. We had salads and pizza. Very fresh ingredients. And we got to help some lucky local dogs and cats. A win!

Google
Great local spot. Wonderful gluten free options and friendly staff. Wide menu of sandwiches and pizza--all are pretty awesome

Google
I came into the establishment around 215 to 20 and I waited at least 5 to 7 minutes for someone to notice me and come take my order. Some of the kitchen staff was watching me and I could tell they wanted to help but they were mending their stations the lady taking my order was not very helpful. She didn’t say hi to me. She simply stood in front of me didn’t seem to interested in my order so I had to figure out how to order exactly what I wanted since it was my first time the steak and cheese was delicious however so I will give it a four stars for the quality of the food but not very good customer service I’m not in the mood of going back and paying what I paid for awful customer service

Lost Dog Cafe was started in the early eighties by a family and their friends. They obviously love dogs. Pictures and paintings of dogs are everywhere. The atmosphere is relaxed, the prices are reasonable, and the food is excellent.

Yelp
Dog-themed restaurant where caricature dog portraits cover the walls. Have an enormous menu of classic American dishes including 50 different sandwich options, pizzas, pastas, and other selections to choose from. Also have a fantastic beer selection. They even had beer from my favorite brewery in CT! You can buy their beers to go as well I got a pizza and it was pretty solid. My GF got a sandwich and it was solid as well, and it also came with some fries that were delicious Service was pretty fast

Andy Y.

Yelp
Ordered take-out and the pizza was delicious! The service was very helpful and able to customize our sandwich requests even though it was off-menu. Will be returning for the dine-in options, especially partaking in their fantastic beer selections. Parking was limited to a shared lot or street parking competing with the other businesses in the area. Will be back! Enjoy!

Yelp
Incredible service - easily accommodated a party of 12 no reservation needed. The food was delicious & our party throughly enjoyed their sandwich selection (Eye of the Tiger, El Bandido, and Carolina Dog were the favorites!).

Yelp
Whenever I'm back in my home town I drop by. Nestled in the Westover it just one of those home town spots. The service is always good. Everyone is friendly and personable. When it's busy. It's just busy and just understand it is. The theme and decor has never lost its touch. There is history behind the name. I've always liked the feel of the place. I would describe the food as a typical college type of good. Pizza and good sandwiches. Being a hokie this is what we lived off of. Known for their pizzas I went with go to Italian and for my daughter the grown up grilled cheese. Both just good enough to share for both of us. If you're in the area this is a neighborhood spot that you should check out.

Yelp
Lost Dog has been consistently good for the 10+ years that I've eaten here. It has tasty, no frills food and good beers. The sort of place that's good for families, good for a casual date, or good for hanging out with friends. In a world full of chain restaurants and buzzword menus, Lost Dog has a true classic neighborhood feel. I usually end up ordering a salad, sandwich, or pizza. I'd say everything depends on your personal taste. The menu is big enough (and customizable) so that there is something for almost everyone. The New York Giant pastrami sandwich is a favorite of mine with a side of dog collars (onion rings). I appreciate that Lost Dog supports the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation. I adopted a dog from this organization! The cafe's food stands on its own, but the work to find forever homes for pets is a huge bonus.

Yelp
I won't order from them again. I didn't get what I thought I ordered. A shame menu. Food was far from good!

Yelp
Really like this pizza! I like the crust and the toppings. Service is good pizza came quickly. We regularly stop by and are never disappointed. Kind of like having an old friend u can count on!

Katie J.

Yelp
Love these guys, the sandwiches never disappoint. I'm not a fan of waffle fries so that's a bummer, but the huge amount of other options makes that not matter. I also love that it's a solid option for groups and diverse tastes. My mom prefers simple flavors, my sister is a vegetarian, my husband prefers American pub food, and I love complex and new combinations, so this is probably the only place we've found that satisfies all of us happily.

Dona P.

Yelp
Best gluten free vegan pizza I've found so far... gf crust is thin, and tasty- not sugary or weirdly chewy, vegan cheese option, and fresh veggies .... I ask for it well done and they always oblige! It's so light and fresh that I can almost eat an entire medium sized myself !! A dream for those of us with food intolerances!

Nicholas J.

Yelp
I live 2 blocks away and they delivered me cold food last night. Very unpredictable service. Been a long time loyal customer till now. They routinely forget add on items to sandwiches. They have been slowly going down hill and seems like they finally hit rock bottom. Time to find a new spot!

Amanda T.

Yelp
Lost Dog is a favorite of ours, and always delicious! The draft root beer is a must - it's delicious and crisp - way better than anything you can get from a bottle (but they do also have an extensive beer selection as well). I had the Howling Hound Salad and my husband had the Rin Tin Tin Pizza with vegan cheese. Both were fresh and delicious! The whole wheat crust on the pizza is a chef's kiss. We had the waffle fries as a starter and they were a little crispier than I like, but delicious nonetheless. The service is quick as well! I would recommend Lost Dog Cafe to anyone looking for a great casual meal and to help a great cause as well!

Lea G.

Yelp
Good food, no frills, quirky (not so) little place. The Lost Dog Cafe has a massive menu of sandwiches, pizza, and more that caters to just about every palette. They have nice beers on tap too and everything is reasonably priced. Best part: you can eat for a cause because they donate some proceeds to dog and cat rescues! I am looking forward to my next visit.

Maryanne G.

Yelp
I swear their pizza and dog collars have gotten even better in the last year -- and we have been having their pizza and dog collars for at least 15 years. Delivery is always early -- and by nice people. Super thin crust which is fabulous! Perfect amount of toppings. Love the spicy tomato sauce option too.

Kevin S.

Yelp
The most amazing pizza in the area hands down. So many choices. I hade the cheesesteak pizza and loved it. Added a delicious salad as well with a delicious beer. There a great number of draft choices ( I enjoyed the American Amber) but they have an incredible selection to choose from to take home. They have an awesome bar to relax as well. To top it off they have the most beautiful and colorful dog art displayed. Just a priceless gem in this area. An absolute must to get to if you are within 50 miles.

Maggie R.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. I get the Bulldog sandwich and have yet to be disappointed. The service is friendly and quick, and the ambiance is bright and friendly. I look forward to a lunch here when I can try a beer, as I have yet to sample them. Highly recommend if you are looking for a restaurant in the Westover neighborhood of Arlington.

Gerri W.

Yelp
Awesome pizza, great sandwiches, and terrific selection of local, crafts beers--both on tap and in bottles and cans. I've been a fan for 30 years!

David B.

Yelp
Food was okay although I wasn't wild about my turkey reuben; next time I'll try something different. (Surprised that I couldn't find a pastrami reuben on the menu; they have other pastrami-based sandwiches.) Italian fries were not to my taste: portion too large (commensurate with the price) and I didn't much care for the seasoning; next time, a pickle & chips or something else instead. The half & half lemonade/tea was great. Service was very good. Ambiance was fine: not too bright & loud.

A K.

Yelp
Always reliable fresh salads & pasta! We order for delivery, which is always quick (& the pasta is still hot!)

Gregory B.

Yelp
We were seated at 8:40 pm and the waitress immediately tells us we have until 9pm to order and eat. Nice way of welcoming guests who haven't been back to this establishment in years due to the poor quality of their service team. I would really like to love this neighborhood restaurant but they continually disappoint. Recommend sticking with take-out. I will not be returning.

Ibrahim A.

Yelp
Madison was very helpful! I walked in and was warmly greeted, best experience i've had at a restaurant!

June P.

Yelp
Sadly this place has gone way down hill. The pizza is average at best. The inside of the shop looks grungy, and do yourself a favor and never order ice cream or a shake--I can tinder how filthy the ice cream cooler is. Kudos for good service though.

Jay D.

Yelp
Ordered large pepperoni pizza through DD and this was probably the worst pizza I have ever had. The pepperoni was massive and super thick and last but not least I almost choked on a piece of plastic in the pizza.

Carly C.

Yelp
Pizza, sandwiches, salads, deserts, no matter what I have ordered from lost dog, I have not been let down. The large variety on the menu has let me get so many different items on their menu! I have done both take out and dine in before and the staff is so friendly and helpful! Some of my favorites are the chopped Willis salad, and sandwich that is on their delicious pita, and the spinach, bacon feta pizza!! The menu items are all dog themed and so is the restaurant! It's very cute! If you are a craft beer person, think about stopping in and seeing their selection!

Linda P.

Yelp
Flavorless steak & cheese! Chewy unappealing sub roll. $13.95!!! Ridiculous price!!! $5 cookie!!! Flavorless also!!

Dorian G.

Yelp
We went for lunch. Good sandwiches. My guest wanted wine. So I got a bottle of Chilean white chardonnay from their cooler and we went to our table. It had a low price. I get the bill and the MGR charged $26 for a bottle of Fat Bastard. I showed him our bottle and he said he'd fix it next time. Sorry bozo. There won't be a next time.

Beach G.

Yelp
Yummy pizza and amazing salad. Easy on line ordering with plenty of options. Two checkout options so no line even during busy evening. Nice to have craft beer and wine available to purchase and take home with take out order. Friendly and clean.

Kwall P.

Yelp
Huge selection of Beer, subs, pizza and pasta. They are all 10/10. Good and spacious dining. Great staff it's usually quick service after rush hours. It's worth the wait though every time.

Bernie P.

Yelp
First, this was not a horrible meal. I think there is a lot of grade inflation on Yelp, but we aren't in a hurry to return either in spite of the local popularity. Service was ok, but also a little confused. We seemed more familiar with the lactose free menu on line than the server. We split a large salad with chicken breast, avocado, corn, beans, etc. We each had a pizza. I had chicken, spinach, etc and a meat lovers pizza. We each opted for the vegan cheese on our pizza. The salad was the best part. The pizza was fine, but we've had better. We drank a beer and root beer. The total price was around $60+ including tip. The price was not unreasonable but not an exceptional value considering service, food, and atmosphere. They do have table service, but it's very casual. We pay about $10+ less next door at Thai Noy for similar quantity of food, better food quality, slightly better atmosphere, and much better service. This is why we cant give a higher rating. We agreed its worth another try at some point, given the high number of positive reviews and popularity. I suggest you give it a try too if you are in the neighborhood and hungry for pizza and make your own decision.

Yelp
I have been to the location in McLean, right near the Safeway, and now I have been to this one, which I am pretty sure is the original. The menus are almost exactly the same, if not the same. Lots of pizza (among other things) to pick from, in addition to some really good desserts. As usual, the pizza is good, but the service is still slow as they only had maybe 3 servers helping out during a busy lunch rush. I was here with a party of 6 and while we all enjoyed ourselves, the food is still pricey. I got a milkshake and a Popeye pie. The pizza tasted pretty good, but maybe it could have baked a tad longer. The milkshake was thick but tasted real fresh, and in a nice 16 oz glass so I will not complain about that. Parking here is a mess. Either you have to really get lucky and find some in the plaza or take your chances and park in the street. In any event, it is a challenge. At least there is something for everyone here. From vegans to vegetarians to meat lovers to the people in between. The menu is too big to not have what you want.

D C.

Yelp
I visited this location a couple weeks ago and I'm dying to go back, which is a good thing because I'm quite the food critic! It's not often that you go to the city and find something quality. I couldn't find a single thing to complain about. My girlfriend ordered the "Bird Dog" sandwich, which I tried and it was tasty. I ordered a medium "Spinach Bacon Feta Pie" which was more than enough for 1 person but it came out perfect! Looked just like the pictures online. I can tell they care a ton about the products they use and the amount of thought that goes into everything just blew my mind. I love it 10/10...ohhh and to top it off we each got a dessert (carrot cake and the brownie with ice cream) and that was great too! If you're headed up to DC or new to the area give them a try! I think they just opened a new restaurant called the 'Stray Cat' which I haven't had time to try yet.

Shelby M.

Yelp
I am sorry to say - please do not waste your calories on this pizza. There are so many great pizza places in Arlington, but Lost Dog is not one of them. Their crust taste like a flattened piece of whole wheat bread, the sauce has no flavor (not even tomato) and the cheese/toppings are melted on like super glue. I have had their sandwiches, which were much better. I have read better reviews about their other menu items. Just disregard this place as a "pizza joint" and try their other menu items!

Patrick P.

Yelp
Lost Dog Café is an Arlington local business that I've been happy to see expand further into NoVA since its inception back in 1985. The concept is simple: good food, good beer, and great service all mixed in with a love for dogs and animals. Whether it's one of their newer locations or their original Westover location there's a small town, local atmosphere you get at Lost Dog which makes it stand apart from the rest. At the heart of their comprehensive menu of soups, salads, pastas, and pizzas is a really extensive sandwich menu. My personal favorites has been The Phoenix and The New York Yankee (something I am a little ashamed to admit as a native Bostonian.) The Phoenix is and its combination of garlic chicken, mozzarella cheese, and garlic mayo is rich and savory. The grilled pita gives it a mediterranean vibe. The Yankee is an interesting Italian/Pastrami fusion that really works. I mostly do take-out or delivery but everytime I stop-by, I see groups of locals having a good time at the bar or in the dining room. I'm always happy to support local Arlington businesses, especially when they do such a good job as Lost Dog.

Kimberly J.

Yelp
Love their cause. It can get packed in here quick. I love the colorful artwork all over the walls and their food is good. It's a kid friendly restaurant and our little one really enjoyed looking at all the bright colors in here. Our server was sweet and did her best being as attentive as possible. This restaurant really does get packed and she was in charge of so many tables. There are plenty of sandwiches and pizzas on the menu to choose from. The bread they used for the sandwiches was perfectly toasty on the outside and soft within. Quality ingredients are used. Their portions are generous.

Jeff C.

Yelp
So this is the original Lost Dog Cafe. I have to say that the decor rocks with a playfully fun feel. And of course, you have love their charitable commitment to helping stray dogs. However, I was a little disappointed with my order of onion rings, which were dry and shriveled. My buddy had an order of their French fries, and they were far superior than my lackluster onion rings. Their beer selection was epic, and based on that, I have some hope that a second visit might go better than my first. Also, I have had their pizza at their Alexandria location, which is quite delicious, so I'm fairly confident that one of their pizzas will go a long way to wiping out the memory of my burnt, anemic onion rings.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Bottom line: A good pizza place with interesting toppings and fun dog-inspired pizza names. They have whole wheat and cauliflower crusts. A little pricey for a pizza. Online ordering convenient. We had yogi the lab's pie, which is a great barbecue chicken pizza - the meat is generous. I ordered whole wheat crust (an extra $1.75) - partner was skeptical but later said pizza didn't feel so heavy that way. I will say that the crust at lost dog both whole wheat and regular are not my favorite - it's a bit dry either way. But it also tastes not as greasy. Their awesome toppings make up for it. It came to about $28 for tax and tip (15%) for delivering one large pizza, so that strikes me as a bit expensive. I think some of their proceeds go to helping dogs, so that's good.

Sheri W.

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch - good HCBLT, yummy key lime pie & excellent service. Atmosphere was comfortable & I did not feel rushed. Menu is huge so I'll be back to try more.

Amanda K.

Yelp
We have come here two consecutive Fridays in a row, we enjoyed it so much. For two people, the wait never seems to be that long. They have both gluten free AND cauliflower pizza dough, so take your pick. I'm not sure I've ever had better gluten free dough. Also, a wonderful bonus, you can order either an individual size or a small gluten free pizza (this is very uncommon for gluten free...usually we only have one choice on sizes). I tried two different pizzas (on my two trips), and enjoyed both of them. My boyfriend had their regular dough, and really enjoyed his as well. They also have a large assortment of beers available for those who can have gluten. The vibe is really cool, with lots of art on the walls.

Adjutant A.

Yelp
Lost Dog Cafe is our go-to place for pizza and subs! Last night Christina did an incredible job balancing two diverse customers! She respected each person's dining experience. Her respect and courtesy for all is a quality for all to emulate!

Greg R.

Yelp
I needed pizzas and salads delivered for 90 people on short notice and I always liked Lost Dog in Arlington. The entire menu is awesome, original and very tasty. I've eaten there dozens of times since moving here from San Francisco, CA 20 years ago. I ordered a lot of food from Ted P. at Lost Dog. He emailed a follow up, called, followed up and made sure it was delivered on time. I asked for the food to be delivered before their official opening and he said he could do it. Wow. I can't say enough good things about a restaurant that has excellent and really good service. Brian, the driver for Lost Dog, was excellent too! Thank you Ted and Brian for the excellent service and your help. I'll be back soon! Best, Greg.

Sara W.

Yelp
Love this place for having so many gluten-free and dairy free options. Makes it easy to find some thing for everyone to eat. My favorite pizza is the Catahoula and really love a bunch of their subs. Also, they have tons of beer options and you can bring your dog with you.

Mekdela T.

Yelp
Sooooo tasty! My co workers and I ordered for delivery from this place, and we all enjoyed it. When we placed the order, they said 45 minutes. It was taking longer than we expected, so we called and they guy was completely Honest and told us how busy they were and had a shortage of drivers. He comped our food and gave us a 25% off coupon for our next order. The food was definitely worth the wait. I ordered the fat Molly and loved it! It had chicken, spinach, tomatoes, feta and mozzarella all wrapped in a warm pita! My co workers had the cowboy and tomato bisque, and both enjoyed it very much! I can't wait to try all the other sandwiches!

Jenn K.

Yelp
My first visit here and what a happy find! Their pizzas are outstanding and I was very grateful they still have plenty of great menu options, not a reduced menu. Limited outdoor patio dining space but we were lucky enough to get outside seating. I had a great salad that was filling and really big- generous portion and very fresh ingredients. All was yummy. Good music outside, good service too- the place has a casual, relaxed vibe which I also like.

Alex S.

Yelp
Lost Dog is a must-go place if you're anywhere in Northern Virginia. And even sometimes worth a trek from DC (or on your way back to the city from Shenandoah, for example). I'd best describe it as a laid back, friendly, local pizza joint with a Cheers-like, easy-going atmosphere, an unbelievably long, good, and rotating beer selection, and quite good pizzas. I've been going there since high school (and I don't want to name that year ;-)) for family nights, dates, and now bringing my own family. The staff are awesome, too, and often very funny. I recommend the pizzas above all else. The Sicilian pizza is my favorite on the menu - pepperoni, oregano, onions, ham, and just overall mmmmmness. The Kujo pie, Spinach Feta pie, and Greek are also quite good. The ingredients are generally fresh. They used to have a Crab pizza, which several friends and relatives raved about, but I haven't seen it for some time. But try asking for it -- we have a couple of times, and they made it for us. The beers. Oh, where do I start? The Belgian St Bernardus Quad on tap is fantastic (and it's really like drinking two beers bc of the alcohol content at 10%). But you can really go nuts on beers - the selection is off the hook, and the draft selection is always rotating. Where Lost Dog could do better is 1) lowering the beer prices a bit (it's too much compared with the competition); 2) improving the quality of the wine selection (they have wines but they're not nearly as good as other leading pizza places). Oh - and in terms of sizing - an individual pizza is normally enough for 1 person, a Large can easily feed 3 people, but a Small doesn't really feed 2. Weird but true. Anyhow, I recommend it overall. It ain't fancy, but it's fun.

Lilia G.

Yelp
I am impressed that Lost Dog Cafe offers whole wheat crust (that they make from scratch!) with some of their pizzas! The Rin Tin Tin pizza was wonderful. Delicious and healthy! I look forward to trying more of your pizzas in the near future. Thank you for your charitable work helping homeless dogs find their furever homes.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed are visit here!! The food was great. Our group tried the National Sandwich and the Mutley Sandwich both were fantastic. We also had the spicy barbecue chicken pizza and a Willis salad. All Superb :)

Kathy H.

Yelp
Love this place. The menu is full of savory favorites and their pizzas are to die for. From the Pitbull to the whippet pizza it's all about the dogs! For the owners it's a unique sauce with ingredients baked in to the pie and cheese. Bow wow!!

Joseph H.

Yelp
I got a sandwich and fries for lunch. Fries were stale and rock hard. There was like minimal meat in the sandwich. Would never get any of those again here. However, the pizzas are amazing. Got pizzas here a couple more times. Amazing.

Bingying L.

Yelp
Always a pleasure coming here! No matter how hard I try to browse the menu for something else, my stomach always goes back to the taco pizza. It's different and interesting for sure. It's a must try to any taco love and eaten fresh out the oven is the only way. During the warm weather, I love sitting and enjoying a meal on the patio. Since it's a bit further back and tucked away, there's not too many distractions and noise.

Erin L.

Yelp
We ordered take out and were really looking forward to trying such a highly rated place. The pizza was way overpriced for its size and lack of taste. Mediocre at best. The sandwich was lacking flavor and the bread outweighed the meat. Super bummer.
