"This outpost of the Northern Virginia family of restaurants has everything residents have come to expect from the quirky brand: goofy dog murals on the walls, pun-tastic dish names (many of them dog-themed), a respectable selection of specialty brews and sandwiches, and plenty of pizza (as well as a few salads and soups). The Italian Pie, topped with onions and multiple meats, is a fine choice. For sandwiches, the pesto and chicken-stuffed Phoenix is a good bet. Smart diners always order the seasoned Italian waffle fries on the side." - Missy Frederick

The sandwich I got was personally the best I’ve ever had. I got grilled chicken on whole wheat with fresh mozzarella, garlic Mayo, pesto, lettuce (which is shredded), roasted tomatoes, and avocado. It was toasted and everything was so fresh and delicious. I think it was slightly overpriced for a sandwich but it was delicious. I also wanted to try the pizza, and unfortunately I regret it. The crust had a strange taste and slightly weird texture. It just tasted doughy and floury even though it was fully cooked. I liked the crunch of the pizza and the flavor was decent. I did find the Italian seasoning or oregano on it overwhelming. I wish I had one closer to my house because the sandwich was truly amazing! Overall the service was good and they were nice. I don’t drink and I asked to not sit at the bar and they were totally fine with that and they warned me the service would be a bit slow. Nothing about my order was messed up and overall I was extremely pleased with my sandwich. I’m craving it now.

We have occasionally ordered food from this place, as it is nearby. They have a great selection of menu items, including sandwiches, pasta, and pizza, which we like. We especially appreciate their lasagna's good quality, delicious taste, and generous portion size. It is always baked to perfection, making it our favorite dish.

Came here late afternoon after a business trip workday. Close to my hotel and reviews looked good. Was able to sit at the bar which was open to the outside which was great on such a beautiful day. Great people watching location. They have a great beer selection, and I found a delicious peanut butter porter on tap. As I checked the menu, I was surprised by the cast choices of food they have available, especially sandwiches (subs, hoagies, whichever you call it) and pizzas. Choosing one was impossible so I bought two meals, a pizza and a sub. The pizza was a great personal bar pizza, with real pepperoni deli slices. The sub (The National) was fantastic. The key is their use of Boars Head products, the best deli meats around. Bread was great as well. Service was great, very attentive bartender who was all smiles and happiness, and the meal came fast. It was so good I went back the next day for lunch and tried a different sub which was also amazing. I'll definitely be hitting this place every time I'm in town. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Google
Pizza crust was floppy. Picked up the first slice and it just flopped completely over and the way too much cheese slid off. That picture isn't a half eaten slice. That is the whole thing picked up from the box. Same for every other slice. Not often that I eat one slice and toss the rest but here we are. Flavors and style can be subjective but objectively every single slice of pizza in this $20 small shouldn't have literally fallen apart in my hand.

Google
Great subs, good pizza and yummy shakes. Great drink selection and good happy hour. Also fast and friendly service.

Laura Koepsell

Google
This is my new official happy hour spot! I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was, and the service was so proactive and friendly! I got the Mickey’s Magic pizza and it satisfied my ongoing craving for white pizza tenfold and then some. I’m already planning to bring my networking group here! Shoutout to Haylee and Mike for taking such good care of my friends and I 😊

Google
I ordered these two subs here twice, and both times the subs were basically empty. I'm not just talking about the protein, there was barely any veggies on them either. When I opened up the foil, I thought they just gave me a empty roll until I opened it up. The first time I ordered a steak and cheese, when I got it, there was no cheese or any toppings, just a couple of pieces of meat. This time, I ordered two subs, both were basically empty and one wasn't cut at all and the other was only halfway cut. The rolls were almost burnt to a crisp as well. Didn't eat them at all, and went somewhere else and got food.

Google
TLDR: Great Pizza, Outdoor Seating, Nice Casual Atmosphere, O.K drinks Ate here for a nice outdoor fall dinner. We got the Popeye Pizza, Bendito Sub, Fries, Arnold Palmer alcoholic drink and Moscow Mule. The highlight for me was the pizza (very crispy, but chewy pizza crust, not dry, good mild flavor). The sub was also good, although it was advertised as spicy and it wasn’t really to me. Good bread though. The fries were nicely fried and not too salty. The drinks we got were a little on the meh side, but the good service and food made up for it. Would recommend for casual dining in good weather, sit outside if you can!

Yelp
Lost dog has great beer, pizza and sandwiches. Trivia night is on sunday and loads of fun. Service can be a bit slow sometimes but overall a good experience with friendly waiters.

Cheri U.

Yelp
It's a cool little restaurant. Love the dog murals with some history of the area integrated into it. Waiter was super nice and the food was good.

Brian M.

Yelp
Been coming for a long time and this place remains one of favorites for a casual drink and sandwich. It's very open and great for the kids too.

Christina V.

Yelp
Never have any complaints for lost dog. Love the concept, their mission, and their food! My go to is the el bandito. Love the sides and the soup.

Shelbie C.

Yelp
Solid pizza. Old school crust. Lots of options. A few notes: all of their plain salads are basically the same with Greek having a little feta. Even the Caesar has olives and tomatoes. Anyway... friendly staff.

Cyrus F.

Yelp
Ordered food through Uber Eats and this is the $10 slice of peanut butter pie that was delivered. It is so tiny that I'm sure that they probably get 16 slices out of a single pie. That's $160 they charge for a pie. Edit: The business owner's response is pretty lame; take some ownership to the issue.

Brian M.

Yelp
Great location and food. Great selection and good place to link up with friends and colleagues for a lunch meetup. Good service and food. Recommender

Cindi A.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Best pizza around. If you do t like pizza, they have awesome salads and sandwiches. Decorated very nicely.

Thomas D.

Yelp
After years of ordering here....dine in, take out & delivery, the time has come to part ways. The last 3 deivery orders were wrong, and/or missing items. When you call to inquire there is clear indifference in the employee's voice. The last time we dined in, we(party of 2) were the only customers in the bar and patio. The bartender was handling both areas, and was doing poorly. Empty beer glasses, empty water glasses, never checked on us after food was brought out. Nothing. This place was always one of our favorites, and I guess we ordered/visited 14-15 times a year from them. All in the past.....

R M.

Yelp
Ordered a large cheese and pepperoni pizza for 23 dollars. Apart from the large not actually living up to its name (was I given a medium Instead or something?) This is an insulting joke for a 23 dollar pizza. The crust is as thin as a crepe and is extraordinarily floppy soggy. If you're going to make thin crust, make sure it's crispy. You literally cannot pick up and eat a slice without everything just completely sliding off. It's unacceptable guys. Please put some more care into what you're making. It's not cool.

William D.

Yelp
I wanted to try something new today, and was disappointed that my order was 45 minutes late. I had to call three times to check on ETA. I would like to update my review due to the fact that the manager contacted me and made things right. I look forward to trying this restaurant again.

Anthony F.

Yelp
Great food, nice staff, and the money goes to an animal shelter. What else could you need!

Cici T.

Yelp
Lost Dog has been a favorite of mine for many years. It started with the food and the cause and then I became a weekly (well, mostly) customer once they added Damion and trivia on Sunday nights. For the first year, I lived in the area, but then I moved to Reston and I still come back every week I am able. Damion creates a fun and friendly game and is a darn nice guy on top of it! I always look forward to Sunday evenings...it's a great way to end the weekend and start off the work week by hanging with my friends and answering Weird Names of the World!

W A.

Yelp
I was initially really annoyed that the pizza I regularly order was totally different than normal with a super thin crust and burnt and brown on the ends. So I was honestly ready to stop ordering from them due to my disappointment in the food quality. But after calling them, they were super with their customer service and sent me a new one and this one looked and tasted great as it normally does. I'm very impressed with their customer service!

Ronit G.

Yelp
Pizza was so yummy! I was so surprised that this was such a tasty pizza at a sandwich place! The pizza was on the favorite list - the Whippet pizza

Tim P.

Yelp
Definitely not as good as I remembered from years ago. We recently moved back to the area and were excited to find ourselves in the vicinity of one of the new(er) Lost Dog Cafe locations, in Dunn Loring. We picked up a couple of to-go sandwiches without much waiting. The sandwiches were good enough but nothing special, fairly bland and a mistake on the wife's. It would be a place to go back to when there were few other options, they are open late which is great, but I'd think twice before returning for an evening out with some advance planning.

Philip B.

Yelp
Terrible service. Not busy and 15 minutes without being waited on. Completely ignored during lunch.

Mark M.

Yelp
It was just ok. Food seems to take a step back. With all the other options they need to do better

Lily F.

Yelp
We've been wanting to come here for awhile now and finally made it one afternoon. Walking in you're immediately greeted with a lot of funky artwork. I stared absent-mindedly while I waited for our lunch trying to make sense of some of the art. Why is that dog wearing pants but the one next to him not? I made a major mistake when I decided to go rogue and order a sandwich that I created. I essentially wanted a tuna melt and made the mistake of not getting extra mayo on it and so it ate extremely dry and bready with cold tuna that wasn't really warmed up. But again, my mistake. I should have went for one of the pre-made sammies like the boyfriend did. Because after taking a few bites of his El Paso Pup, I was sorely jealous. It was very tasty. Ugh, so much food regret. I will definitely come back and try their other sandwiches as there's so much to choose from. And the brews like great too. I'm sure it would be against many kinds of food and safety regs but I really wanted to see dogs running around.

Sandra P.

Yelp
Our lunch group decided to visit this place together. It was lots of fun. The crowd really enjoyed the decor and the food. I didn't hear any complaints about the food. It was easy to get to and lots of parking nearby or in the parking lot and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it

Cali W.

Yelp
The food here is really good. I had the San Diego sandwich Tuna style with their seasons Italian fries. I will say that the fries did taste like they were from a frozen bag however they were crispy and lightly seasoned. The staff are all very calm and friendly. Very welcoming restaurant. I dined in. They also have tons of beer and wine to go. And a bar area on opposite side from larger table seating booth area.

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
Very solid sandwiches! Great place to stop for lunch. I do wish the pickles on my sandwich had been slices instead of diced spears, but still great flavor! I'll be back

Bob B.

Yelp
Everything I've had from the Lost Dog has been awesome. Just look at the sammich! It's overflowing! The pizza is pretty darn good, too. I did take off one star because they delivered Diet Pepsi instead of Diet Dr Pepper. You could have called and asked what to substitute.

Mischa J.

Yelp
A nice place to grab a beer and a bite (been coming here occasionally since 2013)... not to mention that the indoor mural artwork is great and creative! Just hope to see more craft beers added to the menu (can never have too many), and tater tots would be a nice addition to the appetizers, as well as chicken wings in my opinion. Cappuccino would also make a great drink to have with dessert! Update: There is one thing I have been very disappointed in lately. I sent about 2 or 3 emails to the customer service email address, and I received no response at all! I also spoke to a manager at this particular location (Dunn Loring), suggesting that they should order some South African craft beers (since South African beers are very hard to find here), because I know of a distributor that has them. The manager told me that my idea was a good idea, but I have never received any kind of follow-up, whatsoever...

Tasha L.

Yelp
Never disappointed! If you haven't tried, please do! Great food & service both in-person and delivery.

David H.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of their mission to support rescuing area dogs and cats. Otherwise, this place is just okay but nothing special. Their salads are okay (I usually have the howling hound) but nothing amazing and same for the sandwiches. The waffle fries are pretty good but the onion rings alternate between tasty and way too soggy. They have trivia on Sunday nights which is fun but the layout in the bar area is kinda awkward and it's hard for more than maybe 2-3 people to really sit together to play on a team. They do have a good beer selection and the staff is really friendly. I come here occasionally and hope they're around for a really long time since I like their mission a lot but overall it's just an average place.

Namu O.

Yelp
One of my favorite sandwich places in NOVA. 1) I absolutely love the wall paintings. 2) Great atmosphere. 3) Big selection of various sandwiches. 4) Awesome beer selection One thing to note is that service can be so-so. At times, silver ware can be not clean.

Beth G.

Yelp
This is our go to place for family dinners, as the menu is huge enough that there is something for everyone. Fantastic beer selection, soft melt in your mouth pizza dough, generously sized sandwiches. I've seen others complain about service. Sometimes it appears that they are understaffed (as many places are). Sometimes our service is minimal, but we've never had to wait long for our drinks or food.

Kirk B.

Yelp
The menu of items, primarily sandwiches, to choose from is extensive at Lost Dog Cafe. Sometimes a wide array of choices is great, but in this case I don't know that it works since my sandwich was average. The service was great at the bar area and they have TVs for sporting events, so this is a plus if looking for a place in the area with a game or two on. In addition, there is plenty of parking available in a nearby garage. Lost Dog Cafe will be worth another shot in the future and perhaps I will try a different sandwich from their menu of 50 or so featured on the menu.

Allison F.

Yelp
Super charming neighborhood vibe, great patio/bar and diverse menu (even including vegan options), the dog-themed drinks are adorable

Paola P.

Yelp
First time trying this place and I have no regrets! I work and live right by here and I'm upset it took me this long to discover. The Rottie was tHe best sandwich I've had in a while. Everything is reasonably priced as well. I will most def be going back to try some more!

Seneca H.

Yelp
Just moved to the Halstead Square and from the outside looking in this place seemed awesome. The wife and I tried a couple of sandwiches, Italian fries and the Lost Dog Dip. In my opinion the sandwiches lacked a lot. They didn't look anything like the pictures. Very small amount of meats. Fries were on the warm side. The dip was pretty good though and the beers cold. I think for the convenience, I would try again, definitely not the sandwiches but maybe try a pizza next time. Also, service was pretty slow so there wasn't even an opportunity to say anything about the above.

Marissa D.

Yelp
The perfect place to spend a Friday evening! I like this place because it is dog friendly and family friendly. I am on a given day, you might see him anywhere from 2 to 6 pups outside and a handful of families with small children. It's a laid-back, unpretentious place to grab dinner and a drink. Til seven on weeknights, they have happy hour pricing which includes two dollars off drafts and two dollars off pizzas. They have a pretty extensive menu of both pizzas and sandwiches. Some of the combinations are really creative and many of the names are dog themed. My favorite pizzas are the buffalo chicken pizza and the Polynesian, which incorporates a shrimp pineapple and ham. They also have a very extensive draft list That includes quite a few local brews. Oh and the decor is really fun! There are murals on the wall that tie in some local flavor with the dog theme. Service is fast and friendly, and the prices are fair.

Jillian F.

Yelp
My husband and I order pizza here every time and it's always amazing one of our favorite spots! The staff is friendly and the service is spot on definitely come out and support.

rob s.

Yelp
Stumbled into this restaurant bar and immediately felt welcome and the customer service was incredible so personal with Carrington and Yasmin they were so nice and friendly went above and beyond answered some dumb tours questions for me and I couldn't give them any higher praise they were friendly polite kind attentive and the food and drink was excellent but give them 10 stars out of 10 great place and the added bonus is the proceeds go to help rescue dogs and cats animals in need of forever homes so they will have my business until my last dying day just because it's such an amazing need service charity fundraiser they contribute to I'm giving them a high five with both paws !!

Megan P.

Yelp
Ordered the Sammy Club through Door Dash night. Terrible. Barely anything on it. Chips and pickle were good! First and last time I'll order from here. Huge waste of money.

Monika V.

Yelp
Update: the manager messaged me to offer a replacement pizza and I didn't see his message for a long time! (My fault). I have continued to order from this location though, regardless of my past experience, and even the Big Red pizza has majorly improved! (Looked just like the menu photo and included all the correct ingredients) huge improvement and will continue to patronize this and their other locations. This review is for the Dunn Loring Lost Dog location. I ordered delivery which was fast, but little care was taken when making this "gourmet" pizza. I ordered the Big Red with added pepperoni which I've had before at the Westover and Alexandria locations. This one was totally undercooked, overloaded with cheese (usually it's a pleasant surprise to get "extra" of something but this was not the good kind of extra,) and completely missing the basil that makes this specific pizza good. It also looked like it had been dropped, with the cheese all shifted over one side. I barely ate it and had to make myself something to eat which defeated the whole point of ordering delivery on a relaxing Sunday night. I'll take my business to the other Lost Dog locations next time.

Marcus C.

Yelp
I have just recently moved to the apartments upstairs, so this place is very convenient to go to whenever I want a quick meal or beer. Turns out last night the Caps won the Stanley Cup which brings the first time in my young life that I've seen a DC sports team bring home a trophy. I was happy to share that moment with my girlfriend and the patrons at The Lost Dog Cafe! Any who, I like the beer selection here and the bar area. Seems to have plenty of space. I also like how they have the means to open up the wall for the patio seating which I can see being amazing on Summer evenings. The one thing I've noticed are the pizza boxes. Pizza boxes everywhere. I see empty ones in the trash room on my floor in the apartments. Great way to advertise, it got me. I had to try out the pizza. I tried out the Rin Tin Tin Pie which I thought was good because it came with a wheat crust. My girlfriend didn't like it as much as I did only because that's not her style of pizza. A big plus is that they do deliver at least to the connecting apartments. I am not sure about other places in the area. As a big plus, with my card connected on yelp, I currently get 7% cash back when I dine here. That's awesome!! For that reason a lone, I think I will be a regular. Cheers!

Charles V.

Yelp
Let me start by saying ... I am a BIG fan of their pizza. There is something about the crust that always brings me back. It is soft in texture and flavorful. A great foundation for anything you want to load on it. And they have so many pie options to choose from. Although I have tried several, I usually opt for making my own. And for those of you with GF needs, they also have a pie for you. My wife has it all the time and loves it! And for those beer lovers out there ... JACKPOT! They have a variety of brews on tap and several bottled options ... so you can take them to go with your favorite pie! There are a few Lost Dog locations out there ... so do not hesitate to give one a try.

John W.

Yelp
I live nearby and this is the best bar within a 20 mile radius. HANDS DOWN. Great beer, wide variety, great food, I love getting the pizza and the Apollo salad, and excellent service. The bartenders, John and Karen, are so attentive and knowledgeable, you are in good hands. And the manager Kevin, whose always there, is professional and cool af. This is a bar for the whole community to feel like family in, and whats better than that? Come here.

Trang H.

Yelp
What impressed me about Lost Dog is the value you get. The food portions are huge compared to the price! The Italian fries were only a few bucks and they gave us so much. My bf's Italian Pie was also a good size and he thought it had good flavors. I got the Baked Chicken Pesto and they did not skimp on the cheese! I would come back for this dish. I'd recommend sitting on the patio when it's nice out to see all the different dogs with their owners. Lost Dog lost stars from me due to their service. We ate for maybe 30 minutes but had to stay for about 2 hours. Granted there were only a few servers but no one came to check on us and it took forever to flag someone down to get the check. We noticed that other tables got checked on but they seemed to keep skipping us. Very frustrating.

Kelly M.

Yelp
We love the Alexandria location so when we were in the area we thought we'd try this out. Walked in and was immediately greeted by some really... Not enjoyable loud live music. We sat as far away as possible and ordered. Even sitting where we were we had a hard time hearing each other speak so the meal was dominated by this silver bearded guy, his guitar, and whatever folk rock song he was singing at the time. The food was pretty good. We detested the singing and left as soon as we could.

Marisol D.

Yelp
I came here this past Wednesday, with the counselors from school. We enjoyed the fold solo much. There isn't much room to sit larger parties of more than 6 to a table and even then it felt crowded we had about 14 with our party. I got a pizza and a half ice tea/half lemonade. The pizza was delicious, I wish a bit more soccer but j enjoyed it. From what my coworkers got from salads to sandwiches they all looked very good. The salads are HUGE!

Blair S.

Yelp
Always great food and service!! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Beer and wine selections too

Sampad D.

Yelp
Nice big place with some amazing sandwiches and pizzas. I loved my chicken sandwich. They did mess up my friends order twice and gave a discount to compensate it.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Came here yesterday with my friend to get lunch because we were starving. We sat outside and was greeted immediately. Drinks came promptly and service was very courteous. We ordered fries and two subs. She got the Bulldog sub and I got the Buffalo Beagle sub. Both came out really quick and was delicious. The Meats on both subs were marinated really well and the bread was warm and toasty. We will definitely be coming back to try some other items on the menu.

Susan E.

Yelp
The pizza is so delicious. Easy order online and ready to pick up fairly quickly.

Katrina P.

Yelp
I can't believe my boyfriend has visited this place more than me! But it's okay, I'm glad he suggested this place out for lunch. Lost Dog Cafe is a hidden place in Merrifield. This cafe has a wide range of different sandwiches, gourmet pizzas, pastas, and salads. I have heard that Lost Dog is known for their sandwiches, so sandwiches it is for lunch! I decided to order #20 The Cowboy ($8.95) and my boyfriend ordered the #18 President ($8.95). We also ordered 2 Italian Fries ($7.90) and my boyfriend added the Eiffel Porter draft ($6.50). The total was a little over $31 for the both of us - not bad! The Cowboy tasted SO good! The bread was toasted well enough that you hear the crunch in every bite. The toppings and meat were portioned out very well too! Don't let me get started with their fries. I love waffle fries and it was a nice touch to the sandwich. The waffle fries were also fried well done. I'll definitely to come back, its worth visiting again!

Paola K.

Yelp
It was ok. It was slow and we were still not getting as good service as the other patrons that seemed like regulars. The pizza was very good as far as the toppings but the crust was somewhat flavorless. The margarita was delicious. The MAIN reason I am only giving it 3 stars is because someone was vaping inside. It's seemed like either a staff member or regular customer but the door is only 20ft away. He could have definitely gone outside. None of the staff asked him to stop.
