Best Charleston Bars Lounges | Eater Carolinas

"Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to think about outdoor drinks, and the bar at Johns Island hangout Lost Isle is a great spot to grab a seat for one of the many cocktails on tap. Go tropical with the Sheeney Neeney, a rum and pineapple mix, or try classic with an amped up Gintonica made with house tonic. There’s also a great wine selection and $6 house beers. The wood-fired food menu is a delight if you get hungry — don’t overlook the curry braised collards." - Erin Perkins

Where to Drink in Charleston Right Now, October 2024

"Johns Island restaurant Lost Isle comes from the proprietors of Folly Beach bar Lowlife, so you know they paid careful attention to the bar menu. Lost Isle has several beers, cocktails, and wines all on tap, from the outdoor bar. “We wanted the drinks to be tasty, fun, and accessible — not too pretentious or complex,” says co-owner T.J. Lynch, “We hope you’ll have a good time and not have to worry so much about what’s in the glass.”" - Erin Perkins

The restaurant comes from the team at Folly Beach bar Lowlife, and has the same touch of playfulness, but in a more grown-up fashion. Lost Isle Takes Backyard Barbecue to the Next Level on Johns Island | Eater Carolinas

"All seating is outdoors beneath live oaks draped with chandeliers behind a small white building on Maybank Highway, with an expansive patio adjoining a wood-fired kitchen that gives the place a relaxed, backyard-dinner-party vibe. Founded by restaurateur T.J. Lynch (of Lowlife), entrepreneur Thomas Wilson, and chef Josh Taylor (formerly of Root Note Food), the concept centers on live-fire cooking inspired by Argentina and Southeast Asia. Expect shareable plates that progress from small to larger, with standout items like grilled shrimp with harissa cauliflower purée and crispy chorizo; charcoal chicken with a tamarind-chili glaze and lemongrass salsa verde; roasted carrots in brown-butter hazelnut; and curry-braised collards simmered in a khao soi–style broth with breadcrumbs for texture. Drinks are served from an outdoor bar with several beers, cocktails, and wines on tap, crafted to be tasty, fun, and approachable rather than pretentious. The restaurant opens daily from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m." - Erin Perkins

Google
this place truly hits it out of the park- the outdoor atmosphere is top notch, the staff is so incredibly welcoming and inviting, and the food is truly some of the best in the area. Some highlights for us was the whipped ricotta, ribeye, carrots and my god the pork chop was absolutely the best I’ve ever had. The cocktails were also very well thought out and delicious. It’s very clear every aspect of this place has been thought out with great care making it an absolute one of a kind gem on John’s island. Absolutely worth the wait for the table.

Google
This place is exceptional with an amazing outdoor atmosphere. Great drinks, super friendly staff, and the constant smell of the wood grill is enough but the food also is incredible! We got a little bit of everything tonight. Highlights were the tomahawk pork chop, curry collards, grilled olives, smoked fish dip, and grit cakes. Ribeye was good too but if you’re between that and the pork chop go with the pork. It was one of the best we’ve ever had. It was a long wait to get a table but grab a drink or two at the bar and just enjoy it. Absolutely worth the wait!!

Cat was awesome. The hosts were great, the staff was super friendly, and they really took care of us. Seating was quick, and the best part—we got front-row seats right in front of the chefs. That made the whole experience even better. The flavor? Absolutely the bomb. You can tell they focus on quality over quantity. The menu isn’t huge, but every item we tried was packed with flavor. Highly recommend it.

Want a totally different experience - this is IT! Eat outside under the stars while you watch your food being prepared over an outdoor, open flame kitchen. The smells waft across your table….mmm! The team here work together seamlessly to provide a unique experience. The food is always consistent and delicious. The whipped ricotta, curry collards and butter bean hummus are some of our favs. Entrees and sides are generous portions with unique flavors and deliciousness.

Google
So glad we finally got to try this place! Absolutely beautiful spot. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Great wood fired food and unique cocktails. The only issue was that the food was almost overly intense in flavor (and I like intense flavor). But still really, really good. Also, get there WELL before they open to make sure you avoid a long wait to get seated! There was quite a line when we arrived, and we were one of the last groups to get a spot to sit without an hour or more wait.

This is the 2nd time I have been to Lost Isle; We went on a Thursday night and there 3 of us. There were several tables available so we don’t have to wait. Me and my guests decided want we were going to order so I walked right up to the order taker at the register and placed the order with her with no issues. Within 10 min or so our food started coming out. We started with the whipped ricotta and focaccia which my partner and I insisted on getting (again) it did not disappoint. The ricotta had a little drizzle of honey which gave it the perfect sweetness (for us). One of the team members came by to check on us and offered to bring us a few more slices of bread which we loved. My Mom ordered the cauliflower steak which was super outside the box for her and she loved it! My partner got the ribeye which was perfectly cooked, looked amazing and was a large portion and I got the soy glazed chicken which was also fantastic. The cauliflower was well seasoned and the fried chickpeas provided a little crunch which was nice. The steak was tender and juicy and we killed it. The chicken was no different. It was a huge portion, it had the perfect sweetness to it and now I want the recipe. We also got an order of the crispy brussel sprouts which were nice and crispy and had a little chili oil on them which gave them a bit of a kick. And lastly we got an order of the smashed potatoes which were crispy and well seasoned. All in all, we had some left overs and really enjoyed our meals. For drinks- my partner ordered the house espresso martini; my partner likes a sweeter version of the drink so she wasn’t running back to grab another but I thought it tasted good- it had a stronger coffee flavor to it which I enjoy. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. Reason being is that it is so different and unique from other restaurants I have been to, you can get a great steak for under $50, the portions are more than generous and the ambiance is fantastic. I wasn’t crazy about the over bill amount but I’m also pretty frugal but in comparison to a steak house, we got a great deal & had a great experience.

Google
Delicious. Food is so fresh, staff is friendly and the location is great. I love the full experience from the over the fire cooking to the only outdoor seating. We always leave full and happy! Would give this more than 5 stars if I could.

Google
We were so excited to try Lost Isle, so we got a babysitter and set off on this culinary experience! It was a Saturday (9/6), so we arrived about 4:20p. There wasn't a line yet, so we went next door for a drink and returned at 4:50p to about 5 parties in line. We were seated at 5pm and by 5:30pm, there were still a few open spots. We started with drinks. 🥂 🍹I had Thai Me Up, which reminded me of a Creamsicle. I enjoyed the citrus paired with the vanilla. It was refreshing and sure made a pretty picture! 🍹Hubby had Peel the Burn. He really liked it and appreciated the dehydrated banana peel on top, which also made a pretty picture. I'm not a fan of banana flavors, but this drink wasn't overbearing and actually tasted pretty good! We moved on to food. There were 3 of us and we shared everything we got... 🥣 Whipped Ricotta was my favorite small plate! The sweet and savory paired with the blistered tomato flavor bombs was absolute perfection! 🥣 Charred Eggplant Dip is something I would've never chosen for myself, but was surprised by how good it tasted! This was my second favorite small plate. The texture was similar to hummus, but a but smoother. I enjoyed the sweet and tangy notes and especially the yogurt topper. 🥣 Smoked Fish Dip was kind of basic, but still good. I just wasn't blown away by it. 💡Pro-tip: If you run out of bread, ask for more! There's no extra charge. 😉 Onto more food! 🍽️ Hubby had Fire Roasted Sapelo Island Clams and this was not something I would've considered, but the flavor was AH-MAZING! Sweet and a little spicy, sour and tangy, we dipped bread in the juice to finish the dish! 🍽️Harissa Cauliflower Steak was what our friend ordered and I was also pleasantly surprised by the flavor explosion! I would've never chosen that dish, but I like it better than my own! 🍽️ I choose the Smoked Tomahawk Pork Chop because I'm a sucker for a good pork chop and surely such a renowned restaurant would have a great pork chop... But I was majorly disappointed. I felt that the overall pork chop was way too charred and a little overdone, if I'm being honest. I didn't feel like I got all the amazing flavors because all I could taste was... char. 😭 I only ate 3 bites before I just couldn't do it anymore. My friend said that the last time she was there it was a lot different, so maybe it was just a bad day? Thankfully, the sides helped! 🍽️Curry Braised Collards were hands down the best collards I've ever had... And I'm from TN! So juicy, lots of curry flavor but not to the point it was too spicy. I wanted to eat the entire bowl by myself! 🍽️ Crispy Grit Cakes were second in line for best sides. The cake itself is just a vehicle for the toppers, but that's grits in general, so I was ok with it! The cashew romesco was a nice balance to the creamy goat cheese. 🍽️Smoked Brussels Sprouts were my hubby's choice, but I didn't care too much for them. They were a little spicy and I'm just not a fan of Brussels anyway. We had one more round of drinks before heading out.. 🍹Down the Wabbit Hole was our friend's drink and I got a taste. It was a nice drink without too much bitterness that campari can sometimes give. 🍹 Hubby had Gintonica, which I'm not a tonic fan but enjoyed this! The tonic isn't overpowering as it's more balanced with whatever else is in the drink. 🍹🚫I opted for the Aplos Arise in the Pomegranate No-Jito as I've been getting more into zero proof drinks. I actually really liked it and wished I had done it for both my drinks! It's light and refreshing and not overly sugary like many mocktails can be. The evening was beautiful and not too hot. There are fans to keep things cool and the bugs down, however... 💡 Wear bug spray because there are tons of mosquitoes. You'll start feeling them when you get in line. Overall it was an awesome experience and we hope to return, especially since I need to redo from my main dish experience.

Yelp
The food was 10/10. The service was 11/10. The ambience was 12/10. I have celiac disease and was able to have conversations with the workers + chef regarding what was safe for me to eat :) All the yummy dips come with amazing chips (per request) on the side instead of bread.

Yelp
This place is great for gathering with friends. It has a laid-back vibe. The service was quick and the food was amazing. I had no complaints about what I ordered. I ordered the chicken, the curry collards, and the whipped feta. The chicken was nicely grilled very flavoral sauce and meat. The curry collard sound like an uncommon combination, however, it turned out the best the next combination I didn't know I needed. The focaccia was so flavorful (garlicky with a soft crunch). 4 stars due to the lack of fans and fly repellant. I went on a semi-rainy day, but not all tables had umbrellas. We ended up sitting at the bar. The drink menu only had a few wine choices as well. Overall I will be back. My recommendation is choose a day were it is cooler and not raining :).

Yelp
Not for everyone. I didn't care for the set up where you order your drink at the bar, your food at another place, and a runner brings the food to your table when it's ready, which resulted in one of us being served before the other. The steaks we ordered weren't done medium rare, their usual way to serve them, and when the host asked if I would like them to redo it I accepted the offer. I asked for rare the second time and it was done perfectly. It seems like you can't really get a true medium rare without ordering a rare steak. The smashed potatoes were "crunchy" and overcooked; they seemed like reheated previously cooked potatoes. The carrots were covered in feta cheese and seasoning and I didn't really notice any flavor of being roasted or cooked by fire; the texture seemed steamed or boiled first If you want anything else to drink you have to get up and order it yourself. Then the check, which you have to go ask for yourself, includes suggested tips at the bottom going over 20%. Who are we tipping besides a bartender and a runner to justify those tips?

Yelp
Another great experience! The clams and pork chop were perfect!! PERFECT! I met so many nice people here. It's great!

Yelp
I rate this place high primarily for the service and atmosphere. It's a beautiful spot with outdoor seating only and everything is prepared very quickly. The food was also great, but I didn't love the drinks. Everything is prepared ahead of time which isn't my preference. For something prepped ahead of time, I'd expect a lower price.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Ambiance is great, cocktails are GREAT, but there's some serious disconnect. When you call the restaurant it says to check the website or "text us" with questions. 3 employees had no idea the text service even existed.

Yelp
Amazing concept and such a cool Vibe! Will definitely be back for the chicken and those curried collards! Loved sitting at the bar and the bartenders were really nice and attentive.

Yelp
Say HELLO to one of your new favorite restaurants. I wish I could give it 10 stars!!! Cozy Fires + Live Fire Cooking + Curated Cocktails = A deliciously good time! Everything was flavorful and I couldn't get enough. I Fell in love with: The Grilled Delmonno Steak * Charcoal Grilled Chicken * Wood Fired Oysters * Whipped Ricotta and the Curry Based Collard Greens stole my heart and so much more. Did I mention they have a fun cocktail menu? The All Day Cocktail was so sipping good it's a spin on a French 75 but they use tequila. They also have bourbon cocktail the Peacockin, let's just say you're going to love it here.

Yelp
Yes yes yes, this place nailed it. Besides the sign at the front you may think you're at the wrong place. But once you go around the side you are transported to paradise! Foot: 5/5 tried a couple thing and all fantastic. Presentation, taste, selection, everything was great. It's someone who doesn't like collard greens, I 100% recommend them from here. Curry was fantastic. Meat was tender and juicy. Service and drinks: 5/5 this was great. Unlike a normal cocktail bar where everything is made fresh. They make them before they open and have on tap. While some people may not like this. I did because the consistency was spot on. They are just as strong as a normal cocktail and service was super fast. Lane our bartender was amazing!!! Very friendly and attentive. The whole place is outdoors but they definitely paid attention to detail. Mixing the metals and woods to create a cozy outdoor area.
google avatar

Monifa L.

Yelp
First, the service! No waiters/waitresses, just a great smile greeting us and letting us know how the orders are taken. You basically just walk up to the area where the food is made and someone takes your order and runs a tab. Then we walked over to order a nice wine. It was simple and cool! Then the food! We started with the roasted olives. Perfect appetizer. The toast was crisp and the olives and roasted garlic was to die for Toast! The carrots were glazed and buttered perfectly. The steak was cooked to perfection with the chimichuri...like eating heaven! We also had the clams. I'd never had them before and they were good as well. This place is officially on our list for date nights! Beautiful time

Yelp
Excellent spot on Johns Island! Parking is a bit tough as their lot is fairly small but we used the lot across the street totally fine. This is a counter order spot - you order drinks at the bar and then food from a person near the open grill area. Lots of seating but only one large table so keep that in mind. There's a large development going in behind them which is a bit of a bummer in regards to the atmosphere but nothing in their control. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly. We ordered family style and everything was excellent. Will definitely be back but plan to avoid during busy times due to parking.

Yelp
This spot will change the game for Johns Islanders. From the ambiance, the live fire cooking, the draft cocktails - this spot is unlike any other. The team that brought us lowlife bar on folly is opening their newest venture this week. Expect fire pits, canopy sails (to make this spot all-weather since it is outside!), and insanely good meats and seafood. Cheers to the future success of this amazing spot!
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
This place is a VIBE! Such an elevated outdoor experience. Everything was designed with so much thought. If you're going in the winter, dress warm! They had plenty of fire pits though! The kitchen is outdoors! You can see the team working hard on your meal! The bar is beautiful and they have hand crafted cocktails on tap! All the food was amazing! The presentation was gorgeous! I'll be back soon!
google avatar

Yelp
Lost isle should be your first option for Johns island! Everything was amazing from the atmosphere to the cuisine. The service was good, bartenders are friendly and attentive. There are NO waiters, if you'd like a drink you walk to the bar order your drink. If you want to order food you walk to the ordering booth. Peace of advice... during warm nights I don't recommend eating at the cooking station. With the flames from the wood grills it can get very hot and Smoky.
google avatar

Jess W.

Yelp
Absolutely love this new addition to Johns Island! It's set purely outdoors, decorated in a "woodsy chic" vibe -- there are fire pits & blankets for warmth and tents for cover incase of rain. I love the chandeliers hanging from the trees for lighting. The draft cocktails are delicious -- I tried the Paloma & espresso martini. The food menu is expansive & everything is cooked right in front of you over live fire -- the whipped ricotta and wood-fired oysters were my favorite. Everyone we interacted with was friendly & made sure we had everything we needed. I can't wait to go back again and again!
google avatar

Yelp
We love the vibes of this new Johns Island spot. We only came for drinks + apps so most of our impression is on the vibe and staff. It's a beautiful space, in that it's homey and feels like you're walking into someone's backyard. The staff was so sweet. We ordered the olives and whipped ricotta as an appetizer to snack on while we drank our wine and beer. It was tasty! Exactly what we were looking for. We're excited to go back and try more on the menu!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
First time visiting, this is a really cool restaurant, the outdoor grill is unique and there is an overall good vibe. The food was delicious, we ordered the grilled chicken, potatoes, carrots and ribeye . The carrots and chicken were the star, unfortunately the ribeye was too fatty and a little too rare. I would definitely recommend Lost Isle, and would go back just skip the ribeye. Maybe they should have an option for filet? Just an idea .
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
This is a cool addition to the island. Great all outdoor seating, fire pits, open fire kitchen and cool bar. Drinks were great and the whipped ricotta knocked our socks off! So many flavors going on and they work beautifully. The potatoes were a no for me and not at all worth the price. The rib eye was cooked to perfection and high quality but, lacked flavor and seasoning, the taste was all fire. The curry braised collards were amazing! What a unique take on a Southern staple. I could eat them all day! The coolest part is that it isn't at all corporate, it's clearly someone's dream made real and I appreciate that. We'll be back but probably just for cocktails and apps. Especially since it's dog friendly.

Yelp
Everything about this place it's vibing!! Drinks were the best around. Food was amazing. Great time/experience had by all.

Yelp
Amazing new restaurant on John's Island! The setting is peaceful with a fun chill vibe. The food is to die for and we didn't even get to try all of the dishes! The cauliflower was hands down our favorite, for veggie lovers and non! All of the cocktails were amazing with the brooklyn cocktail and the peacockin' being the standouts. Can't wait to dine again and try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
Setting reminded me of a Costa Rican jungle style bar and cafe. We chose one of the more colder days in January to stop by but we had business out that way so why not! Friendly staff and food served in adequate time. The flavor of our half chicken was delicious. Great seasoning and sauce. The carrots were roasted and very fresh. The collards are good with the extra panko crunch but if you are not keen on heavy sauce maybe ask them to lighten the curry sauce since it is generous.

Yelp
I hope this review comes as constructive and without ill intent. I think we enjoyed ourselves here plenty, even with the road blocks. Big shout out to the chefs at the grill, they were very fun to chat with and our food was delicious. We definitely are understanding of new businesses, especially during a holiday, so we went into this experience with grace in mind. We arrived on NYE night to maybe 10-15 people dining or at the bar. We approached not knowing where to start and were met with unsmiling faces and standoff ish looks from behind the bar. In my mind, if your new restaurant is a little empty and customers arrive on a holiday, you'd have staff be attentive, smiling hello, how are you, thanks for coming out, let's start here. We already had read the flyers and ads about the "buffet" prior, so we ordered drinks, received our meal ticket and headed to the MC station. This is where we received our first smile and greeting. We sat, received blankets (very nice touch), and waited for our friends. At the grill, we realized the "buffet" was false advertisement or just too expensive for what they offered. With the ticketed price, you receive 3 oysters... per person. We thought buffet so we'd get a few servings of those. No. And I think that was the biggest let down, because it was the whole point of going. We were also served, which goes against it being a buffet. Not that's it's a huge deal, but it wasn't what was advertised and we wanted to take our time and enjoy the experience. My prime rib was overcooked so I asked for more oysters in its stead and they obliged. Smoked salmon while hot at one time, was served cold. Dessert was inventive and great, but ice cream on a cold night wasn't ideal. Drinks were seriously good. Service at the table was great. I go back and forth between the price just being too high for what we got and the fact that it wasn't exactly a buffet. The space has serious potential. We look forward to trying the regular menu at a later date and the changes to come as they move forward.

Kay J.

Yelp
Hard to review the place because it seems amazing but was underwhelmed. Ambience is nice, people are great, menu looks great. But I didn't think menu wasnt executed all that great. you walk up to order and get food delivered, which is ok- but makes you wonder what the value of tip is in this context when you don't develop a relationship with any staff. The drinks are pretty much all well drinks which I don't have much of an issue with- but for someone who gets drunk off of one beer- the cocktails were weak. Price is expensive overall, but that's now likely the norm for Charleston. Wanted to like it much more than I did. 3 is really because there's nothing for me to return to.

Yelp
Really loving the vibes at this new Johns Island restaurant nextdoor to Tattooed Moose. Pros: -Funky outdoor space with a cool bar with heaters (great for the cool, winter nights) -Food was delicious (a few cons below); really loved the bread they served with all of the dips (whipped ricotta was sweet, roasted olives with garlic were great, swordfish dip was a hit, and the eggplant dip was very tasty) -The employees were super friendly and helped prepare a big table for our larger group of 8 -Loved the fire pits and blankets they provided out by the dining tables -Food came out quickly, and the drinks were good (recommend the gin+tonic) -Really loved the collard greens with curry, as well Cons: -It is all outside (no inside space), so if it rains there is no cover... and I really hope they get a tent with AC for the 95 degree weather we have for 6 months out of the year (it also rains about half of the year.) There is currently little shade for the summer. -The steak we ordered was lacking in flavor (could have used some salt) + it was very tough (even though it was cooked more on the rare side.) -The ordering system could have been explained a little better. We didn't realize we had to order food at the register until about 10 minutes after sitting at the table. You have to order drinks from the bar, as well (which isn't that big of a deal, unless they are super busy and you need a lot of drinks.) -It was busy when we went, and there were no parking spaces available. A few members of our group parked at Tattooed Moose, and a couple of others had to park across the street. All-in-all, we loved the overall vibe, and we hope they have a good setup for the summer so we can enjoy a meal here again when it gets warm!

Yelp
If anyone gives this place less than 5 stars are just high nose individuals looking for perfection. If something comes out wrong or cold just communicate easily. Unless you are getting rude service or horrible food on constant occasions maybe I can see. But I absolutely love this place. Couldn't wait until they open we ran there and it was A1. Been there a few times after and just recently with my parents coming into town from New Orleans. And they loved the vibe and the food. They cleaned their plates, and we from New Orleans so we know when food is good and seasoned. It's crazy because most people criticizing the food probably can't even make a roux from scratch and probably only season with salt and pepper . This place is a great vibe for date night or a get the crew together for a night out for some food and an atmosphere that's very different. I'll definitely be back, all I ask is please put the oysters back on the menu I was down when I saw it wasn't on there anyone and even add some margarita or mojito options on the drink menu. Other than that keep doing a great job (owner and staff) and I heard they were in the top 50 New York Times list just recently. Proud of them keep innovating and cultivating

Yelp
Ambiance was nice, food was phenomenal. Went during day time would love to go back in the evening to experience the difference in settings. It was confusing on where to go to get seated, I had to ask the bartender which she advised there was an MC stand next tot the grill behind/next to the bar that is not very noticeable.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Every bite was an explosion of flavors!! Staff was very welcoming and friendly. We asked if our 2 golden retrievers could join us and they said yes! Another bonus for us. A true gem!!

Yelp
This new restaurant is amazing! If you're a foodie this is a must go to in CHS. The atmosphere is wonderful. So pretty at night with all the lights. The food is incredible. So much flavor in every dish. Especially if you're a saucey person this is the place! We loved our bartenders, they kept us laughing, and they were calm cool and collected. They were very personal and made this experience even better. We also got the pleasure of meeting the owner! He was very nice and filled us in on how he got started, such a great man very genuine and humbled. And if you know how to eat a steak (rare) he might even buy you a shot too! ;) I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Our new favorite on Johns! The food was outstanding and the laid back vibe of ordering/seating yourself was very refreshing from the standard wait service you receive at a restaurant. It was fun to pace our meal without feeling pressured by any servers to move on to the next course. Once we did put an order in the food would be out exceptionally fast. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking to spice up a date night up!

Great food, interesting concept for service. Order drinks at the bar and a tab is opened. Menu is scanned at your table using a QR code. Next step is heading over to the grill and placing your order. Food is then delivered to your table when cooked. Cool outdoor venue with big umbrellas that are opened for rain. Food was grilled and delicious. We started with the Fire roasted olives which were served with buttery toasted bread and roasted garlic. Entrees we had were the smoked tomahawk pork chop, charcoal grilled chicken ( very moist and juicy) and the grilled rib eye steak. All were delicious! As a side we had the plancha smashed potatoes . We had a very enjoyable dinner!! Will definitely return!

Yelp
Solid 4.5 All day. Quaint outside bar/restaurant with a great vibe. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were excellent. The coffee martini was very good, despite coming from a tap. I switched to the house lite beer after. Beer was cold and tasted fine. As an appetizer, I ordered the baked oysters. They were amazing. For dinner I had the pork chop which was very, very good. There is no table service, so you order at the grill area. Overall, a great experience. Just a side note, there are no inside tables. Everything is outside, so bring a coat on the chilly nights. They do have heaters, but they can only do so much.

Yelp
We tried this unique fire to table restaurant on Johns Island today and were impressed! First, the atmosphere is fun and open. The diners were relaxed and many brought kids and friendly dogs. The staff is friendly and helpful. The entire restaurant is outside with a full bar and an open fire cookstove. The menu is eclectic and made with compelling ingredients. The MC takes your order and you sit at outdoor tables or the bar. There are many charming lights overhead and warming fires lit all around. The music is upbeat. Runners bring your food to the table from the open fire stove. We started with the charred eggplant dip with grilled bread - oh my! It was amazing! For the main course, we ordered grilled chicken, which was ok. The star of the show - the curry braised collards!! My husband said, "I could literally eat these every day for the rest of my life!" Needless to say, we had to arm wrestle to see who got to finish the bowl. We are alcohol free, so my only wish is that they had some non-alcohol options besides water and soda. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
If you'd like to sit outside in a relaxed, cool atmosphere with nice music, this is your place. All of the appetizer options are a must have. I would order all of these again over any of the entrées.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Came at 515 to beat the rush. Favorites were the whipped ricotta, Ribeye, and carrots. Only suggestion would be to add seating on the side for people waiting for a table

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food was just very nice. Love the vibe. Will be back for more. This is a super cool spot on Maybank.

Yelp
Im sorry but for $200 for 2 meals and 2 drinks, I should not have to go up and order my own food and drinks.. not to mention they have NO condiments and you cannot make any modifications on food. As well as they only have like 5 items on the menu. Not worth it, save your money!!

Yelp
Don't go here on a rainy night, but any other night I would highly recommend this place. Very different menu with some tasty options. The curried collard greens was unexpectedly tasty. Smoked eggplant dip for a starter was very nice. A tomahawk pork chop done on the wood fired grill was amazing.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks at this fun outdoor oasis with fire pits and chandeliers. Sort of self service but all were friendly and helpful. Char grilled oysters, whipped ricotta, polenta all great shareable apps. Not inexpensive but worth it for the ambiance and attention to detail. My only negative was the appearance of the entrance with trash and recycling very prominent.

Yelp
Fabulous vibe created with numerous fire pits and chandeliers. The oysters are wonderful as is the roast chicken, eggplant dip, roasted carrots, potatoes. Great cocktails on tap. Service is friendly and efficient

Yelp
Wife and I had dinner last night, with apps and drinks. Very cool vibe , ordered drinks sat near a fire pit , then walked up to order our choices. Smoked oysters were amazing, as was the smoked fish dip. For our mains we had steak and chicken also cooked perfectly. Glad my wife selected this place everything was great - I do recommend that you dress warmly . I would also recommend you try this place it's not going to be "Lost" for long !!!!!

Yelp
This resturant was a very pleasant surprise. Saw a news clip on TV and was interested in trying them out. From the front it looks a little suspect, but the magic is in the outside dining area and bar behind the place. They don't take reservations and open at 4:00 so it's good to arrive early. A great full service bar with good draft beer and wine selections. The wood fired drill cooking area is adjacent to the tables and seating area with even some seats in front of the grill area. All in all a delightful outside dining area. We ordered grill chicken and grilled oysters with sides of smashed potatoes, collards, and grilled olives. The food was amazing. We had never experienced the combinations of tastes from the wood fire and spices. The oysters were spectacular and the collards might have been the best I have ever tasted - an unusual combination of sweet and spicy in a mustard sauce. All in all a splendid dinner in a nice casual outside backyard atmosphere.

Yelp
My friend and I ate here and it was phenomenal! The outside bar was toasty even though it was a cold day, because the fire pits and heaters helped a ton (and made the ambiance even better). The charred bread that came with the delicious eggplant dip and terrific whipped ricotta dip was some of the most amazing bread I've ever had. The smashed potatoes were so good too- everything was fantastic! The staff was super friendly and helpful. A new favorite place!

Yelp
The outdoor only setting is absolutely adorable. If you are going in a chilly day be prepared to be cold. They do have little fire pits between tables but doesn't help to much. Be prepared to spend more than you think. Meals do not come with sides, they are all super pricey. Food was good and tasty but very different. There is little to no service. You basically order food via a stand near the kitchen. You get your own beverages, there is zero staff to wait tables. It does work, it was an interesting concept. I will return but at those prices maybe not as often as I would like.

Yelp
Overall a good experience, with some room for growth. The concept and atmosphere are great and and set this place apart from the many dining options in the area. Walking in for the first time leads to uncertainty, there could be a more obvious "seat yourself" since since the MC stand is not right at the entrance as a host stand would be. But overall once you start talking to staff they are quite friendly. Drinks are delicious. For the food: the oysters were the BEST and I would go back for those alone. For all dishes, the chef here has a knack for sauces and they are very flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the glaze on the chicken, and that dish in general. Smashed potatoes were a reliable side. Carrots again had a delicious glaze and the flavors went really well with the goat cheese, though as a matter of preference I would have liked them roasted a bit more. The disappointing dish was the ribeye; we didn't realize until it was too late that there was no discussion about how we wanted it cooked and it came out overdone. Still with a good flavor and nice crisp on the outside, but was less enjoyable than it could have been. All in all, excited to go back for some of these dishes and drinks and to see how this young restaurant develops and grows!

Yelp
This restaurant is new and needs to work out several kinks! Food is served as the server stated , whenever! Smashed potatoes were served first and got cold quickly! Next was our starter which was burnt focaccia! Next my husband's steak was served and mine about 5 minutes later! It was flavorful but tough even though it was MR! There are fire pits but they need heaters! Drinks were okay!

Yelp
Food is phenomenal and the service is amazing!! The whipped ricotta dip and the wood fire grill oysters are amazing!! A MUST IF YOUR IN TOWN!!

Yelp
The menu choices are limited but still offer pleasing selections. The wood fired preparations of the clams and carrots were very good. The landscaping, chandeliers and open outdoor kitchen provide a unique and very pleasing ambiance. The big problem I have with Lost Isle is that it basically operates as a self-service operation. I am not very steady on my feet and usually use a cane to help keep my balance. Unfortunately, this evening, I left it in the car, not anticipating having to walk around on the soft gravel. When I was being seated by one of the four girls on duty, I was told that when I was ready to order I would have to go the cashier station to place my order and that, if I wanted a drink, I would have to go to the bar and get it separately. When I told the girl that I had some difficulty walking, she told me that, to her, it looked like I was walking pretty well. I wanted a wine but did not feel comfortable walking with one. Fortunately, they give you a bottle of water at the table so you can serve yourself. I didn't even know if I have a scanning app to retrieve the menu at the table, so I went to the cashier stand to read the one posted there. When I placed my order, I was asked for a credit card. I told the girl that I was paying cash but she demanded to get a card anyway. I can't imagine why. I seriously doubt that they have a problem with customers walking on them. I had to walk to the cashier stand to pay my check, which was on the high side, considering I only had two items. I recognized the lack of service by leaving only a nominal tip. I really don't understand why Lost Isle, which has so much positive going for it, goes with a self-service concept that is more typical of a barbeque joint. I left with a very negative overall impression.

Yelp
Incredibly rude. Run and owned by big headed Yankees. Don't answer the phone. Their voice recording says to text them because they won't answer, but when you text you don't get a reply. Crazy long wait times.

Yelp
I don't leave a lot of reviews, but this place knocked my socks off! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was even better. Couldn't have asked for a more hospitable location and team of staff while visiting Charleston. Relaxed, cozy and upscale at the same time. This place really made us feel like we were on vacation. Will definitely be back. Don't skip out on the oysters!
