10 Best New Lunches Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Lost Sock coffee can be found at cafes and restaurants across D.C., but the coffee roaster is just beginning to expand its own cafes. The newest NoMa outpost pairs coffee drinks with guava and yuca pastries, plus egg sandwiches and avocado toast, but there’s also lunch fare on the menu. A chicken Caesar wrap with sharp cheddar cheese and black bean hummus baguette sandwich stuffed with pickled cauliflower and roasted peppers are served until the cafe closes at 4 p.m." - Emily Venezky

Google
New cute neighborhood coffee shop just opened! Serving all day breakfast and lunch with a variety of small bites. Coffee is good and they have a nice place inside and out to hangout. A nice addition to the neighborhood and always fun to support small neighborhood coffee shops!

Google
Nice place but one of my Coffee had way too much cinnamon. Food was good. Would come back!

Google
Great food. Great coffee. But a few negatives....no outdoor seating and very limited indoor seating. Slow. I mean SLOW. 20 minutes after my coffee my food was ready. They need to step it up in the kitchen. Overall a great place for breakfast and coffee, just a few small things to make this a 5-Star rating.

Google
Lost Sock is a great addition to the neighborhood! The $11-14 breakfast sandwich is a little pricy but has unique flavors and is large. The coffee is delicious and the favors of pastry are unique. I hope they add outdoor seating or more stools soon.

Great addition to the neighborhood. I totally recommend the horchata with an espresso shot. They have breakfast options inspired by Latin flavors.

Google
New coffee shop on the Noma area! Overall I would say it’s worth trying if you’re close. The coffee was not ground breaking but I enjoyed the atmosphere and their selection of pastries, breakfast, and lunch options. I had a cold brew with a “crogel” which is an everything bagel flavored croissant. The coffee was ok. The pastry was delicious however! Music playing at a nice volume and a good amount of staff working first thing in the morning so the coffee came out quick.

Do not open a neighborhood coffee shop in DC if you are not dog-friendly. You are NOT a local neighborhood coffee shop. No water bowls outside. No seated area. No umbrella. Nothing. I stopped by with my dog hoping to grab a quick drink, only to be told (passive aggressively) that I couldn’t come inside to order—not even just to stand at the counter for a moment. It wasn’t crowded, and it was a hot morning (during a heat wave) but instead of being accommodating, they asked me to wait outside and said they’d take my order out there. Like just let me look at the menu on your wall, place my order and go. If you’re going to brand yourself as a neighborhood spot, it would be nice to see a little more neighborly hospitality. Plenty of other local places are far more welcoming and flexible. And I don’t care to see a response from management. Just fix yourself. No comment you place underneath is going to be a good one.

Yelp
New coffee shop in the Noma neighborhood. A quick walk for me which is nice! They have plenty of options and several specialty lattes. They have a good array of pastries, which are decent and affordable. I'm basic so I got an almond croissant and a regular latte. Both were good. I've also tried the breakfast empanada, which was good. Pretty small but it was good. The highlight for me is the service. Even though it has been extremely busy and packed, the service and baristas are always friendly and attentive. The space is on the small side with window bar seating, about 4 chairs, but no other seating inside or outside. I'm sure they are working on seating options because that would be a nice addition. They are closed on Mondays, which is disappointing but they're open the other 6 days. They also close at 2 or 3... which is a new trend with coffee shops. I'm not a fan because I love an afternoon/evening coffee but I get it. Highly recommend you check this spot out!

Yelp
I'm thankful Lost Sock Roasters opened a second location in NoMa, which is closer to me than their Takoma location. It's only an 8 minute walk from the NoMa-Gallaudet metro station and tucked in a more residential area. The interior is spacious, but only there is only counter seating (8 stool seats facing the window) at this location. I camped around for 5-10 minutes and was able to get a seat afterwards, but the seating isn't the most comfortable. When I stopped by earlier yesterday afternoon, they weren't making pour overs (darn!), so I got a 12 oz. iced americano with single origin espresso for $4, which was pretty refreshing but nothing to write home about. The espresso notes leaned fruity but not overly so. I think from all my Lost Sock experiences, their lattes (and specialty) and small bites are the noteworthy items to order. Lost Sock also closes pretty early at 4 PM, and they're closed on Mondays. Overall, it's a good spot for grab-and-go, but not a sit down. They sell beans, tea leaves, and coffee-making equipment at this location as well.

Yelp
That egg lota sandwich is seriously insano. Make sure to add the chorizo as well Coffee is fine but I would go again just for the sandwich

Yelp
I live just around the corner so I'm totally thrilled a new coffee shop has opened in the neighborhood! I've gone a couple times and gotten different drinks but I wanted to wait to review before I got food from them so I had the full picture. This morning I stopped in on my way to work to get the egg-lote sando (which is delicious) but my order got lost in the shuffle so I had to wait a bit longer. No problem at all, I already leave chronically early for work so that was never an issue, but the baristas were SO generously kind and offered to make me a drink on the house! I got the horchata with a shot of espresso and it was SCRUMPTIOUS!! There's a lot of coffees I like in DC, but this is definitely going in my top 5. The sandwich was also delicious, I loved the lime crema with the roasted corn and the egg was done perfectly. Overall it's a great little coffee shop and a worthy competitor to the other cafes in the area!

Yelp
If you love quality coffee, pop into Lost Sock Market & Cafe. Their original location is in Takoma, but this one has history. It's inside a 1923 corner store, which explains Lost Sock's little market inside, a nod to the building's legacy. Open Tuesday-Sunday from 8am to 6pm, Lost Sock roasts their own coffee and serves a full coffee menu. Their vanilla latte is my favorite in the city. It comes out perfect with no need for more cream or sugar. It's very smooth! They also have teas for non-coffee drinkers. Their food menu includes all day breakfast, including avocado toast, egg sandos, and five different kinds of empanadas using a family recipe of one of the owners. Any of the empanadas are worth getting. They come with a delicious sauce on the side. The space itself is an oasis with plants everywhere, large windows letting natural light in, and exposed brick. There aren't any tables or chairs inside, but a bar table to stand around are in both window areas. An outdoor patio is coming soon. There aren't any outlets inside, but there is a unisex restroom that is kept clean.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Friday afternoon, and it was quite busy! There's not much seating at all. The place in general is small and just has some counter seating near the windows. I got a Jasmine Blossom Latte. I asked for it to be short on milk, and they gave it to me as is instead. I was a bit disappointed with that. The espresso taste was nice, however, I could barely taste the syrup. If it were short and had less milk, it would probably be better.

Yelp
Cute new neighborhood coffee spot in NoMa! Stopped by on my way to Trader Joe's and there were a few seats available. Service was fast and nice, and the latte and alfajor both hit the spot. Cute spot to work as there are plenty of plants (and they're for sale!) and great natural lighting.

Yelp
Super stinkin cute place. Went here with my Seattle friend that was visiting and if it wasn't so far away, I'd frequent this place. It took me back to living in Seattle. I miss it so much and this was a small reminder. Yummy food!! And drinks too!! Def recommend. W bought a couple "lost socks" as a reminder too.

Yelp
great to have lost sock closer to home - coffee is wonderful both espresso and drip/pour over, they have a good menu of hot food and pastries, space is cute with some seating in and hopefully some outside soon
