The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"A cozy, no-frills osteria that’s somehow minimally decorated yet warm and inviting, with pale wooden floors, pendant lighting, and chalkboard room dividers. They get busy so book well in advance or you could find yourself waiting for up to two hours. The second courses are where the menu really shines–the veal saltimbocca, wrapped in prosciutto and topped with crispy sage, is the best we had, the meatballs in white wine a close second. There are hearty sides of roast potatoes, topped with rosemary and sea salt, sautéed, garlicky chicory, and the oft-underrated wild agretti, which tastes like a mix of chives and samphire. The sweet stuff is all made on-site, from the warm crostata tart with fresh ricotta and sour cherries, to the crème brûlée. If you can’t face dessert but want to linger, the flaky, buttery, ciambelline rings are ideal for dipping in a glass of dessert wine." - Maresa Manara

Lo’steria near Ponte Milvio offers an exceptional dining experience. The food is delicious, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients that showcase the best of Roman cuisine. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service make it a great choice for any occasion, whether a casual meal or a special night out. What makes this restaurant even more special is its location near Ponte Milvio, one of Rome’s most historic bridges. Dating back to 206 BC, it was the site of the famous Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 AD, where Emperor Constantine defeated Maxentius, paving the way for his rule and the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire. Walking along this historic bridge before or after a meal adds a unique and timeless charm to the experience. A must-visit for those who appreciate both tradition and taste.

We found this restaurant because it is recommended by Condé Nast Traveler. It is a neighbourhood restaurant, catering to distinctly local patrons. Tourists like us seem to be a rare exception. The restaurant became quite busy from 8:30 pm. The service was highly attentive, fast and competent, particularly helpful in selecting a perfect white wine. The food of this unpretentious place was thoroughly excellent and very reasonably priced. We would rate it among the top two of our dining experiences in Rome. Will gladly visit again.

Off the beaten path so it’s not touristy and no crazy line. I liked it because it had a homey feel. But the Amatriciana is dry pasta and a few pieces were undercooked (not al dente, it was crunchy in the middle). The sausage was good but kinda broke apart. I didn’t mind that though. Fried cubed meat croquettes were prob my favorite. Also, they had a good wine selection.

What a hidden gem. Excellent food. Great ownership. Extremely helpful to us non Italian speaking tourists. This is a local restaurant with great options that taste fabulous. Fair prices. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
