11 Big-Deal Banh Mi in Portland | Eater Portland

"The bakery and deli counter near the front entrance of Montavilla’s Hong Phat supermarket isn’t just a great source for pandan waffles and roast meats by the pound, it also sells 10 varieties of banh mi, from the vegetarian bo chay with tofu and avocado to the all char siu sandwich, the xa xiu. Pro tip: there’s usually a selection of readymade sandwiches in the adjacent refrigerated case, if time is of the essence."

Portland’s Top Pandan Treats | Eater Portland

"While Gado Gado has put the breaks on brunch — meaning no more pandan waffles topped with Crunch Berries — diy brunchers can take matters into their own hands by stocking up on three-packs of pandan waffles, sold in plastic containers (or prepared à la minute) at Lotus Kitchen, the bakery and deli inside of Hong Phat supermarket on 82nd Avenue. Those waffle-packs are fun to trick out at home, with things like honey and whipped cream."

Even though I make salad rolls often to eat but it is nice to have Lotus Kitchen prepare a party tray of salad rolls for me when I don't have much time to make them myself. These salad rolls are so fresh tasting just like how I would make them. Banh mi here are also excellent! The baguette they use to make banh mi has a nice crisp on the outside and soft & chewy on the inside with thin dough so you can taste all that juicy yummy meat and crispy pickles rather than the doughy crumbly bread like most places. I love their frozen yogurt and all the exotic tropical fruit smoothies. Who would've thought that a deli inside Hong Phat Food Center can make so many gourmet and deliciously fresh food?

Google
One of the best spots in town. If you're looking for authentic and great tasting Vietnamese food, come to Lotus Kitchen. Price is reasonable and customer service is topnotch. It's inside a supermarket so you can shop and buy food in one trip.

Google
Got the pandan Vietnamese waffle and it was everything I hoped it would be. Perfect amount of flavor with coconut flakes and the texture was chewy almost like mochi. I would highly recommend that and the sugar cane drink! Can’t wait to go back and try more

First time I've ordered from Lotus Kitchen. Definitely my new go to for Bahn Mi. So good, the bread, the meat and veggies. And I love being able to do some grocery shopping while I'm there.

Love treating myself with the yummy food and drink selection. Hits the spot every time. I recommend the sugarcane drink and avocado smoothie! It’s definitely a must when conveniently inside my go-to Asian supermarket.

Google
I came here because I saw pandan waffles, 3 for $5! This place is actually inside of Hong Phat, the supermarket. There's a lot of premade meals, but I only picked up the waffles. Although cold, they're super chewy and had plenty of pandan flavor; I'm really impressed! Definitely recommend, and throw them into the toaster oven perhaps for even more deliciousness.

Dat Bao

Google
Be careful of roasted pork and paty pork... They put way too much MSG. OMG the numbness!!!

Yelp
Am I outta my mind? Red flags set off when I noticed that it was inside a dingy supermarket but I ignored them because we were desperate. The banh mi sandwiches were left in the open. There were about 3 dat biet, 1 pork ones, it looked pretty empty and there's no label as to when it was made. ...God knows how long they've been out there. The expiration date is in seven days? Are you freaking kidding me? I wouldn't dare eat it because it might send me to the hospital. So, I gave it to my SO and kid. Well, they wanted sandwiches. I got summer rolls at the restaurant next door. I asked them how it was. They said it was a 2/5. They said the bread was old. S.O said with 22 reviews, the rating may not be reliable. So I'm adding my honest opinion.

Yelp
I came here because I saw pandan waffles, 3 for $5! This place is actually inside of Hong Phat, the supermarket. There's a lot of premade meals, and I picked up fresh shrimp and tofu rolls (they also had shrimp & pork and just pork) as well as rolls with a medley of stuff inside of them (banh trang cuon). Although cold, the waffles were super chewy and had plenty of pandan flavor; I'm really impressed! Definitely recommend, and throw them into the toaster oven for even more deliciousness. The fresh rolls were really fresh although the banh trang cuon was a bit dry. Prices are okay, the two shrimp & tofu rolls along with peanut sauce were $5.5 and the other ones were the same price.

Yelp
My usual stop to the super market after visiting my favorite Vietnamese restaurant, @Portland. We will stop here with my daughter so she can grab her Asian groceries. I noticed this space as you enter Hung Phat Supermarket, it is now Lotus Kitchen, I also noticed the business sign and menu board. I was surprised to see tons of varieties of packaged Vietnamese food and deli items, desserts and drinks. Lotus Kitchen has pork buns, deep fried pork buns, steamed pork, roasted meats, banh mi, fresh flavored waffles and so much more. I want to move to Portland just so I can shop here, I would stop here every week to fill up on my Vietnamese faves. Everything looked good but I was so stuffed from lunch, I ended up just looking around and getting snacks and desserts for our drive out to Woodburn. I've never tried a fried pork bun before so I got that for our snack and I missed eating Pandan waffles and didn't know Durian was available, the cashier was nice to let me mix 2 flavors, a box of 3 waffles for 5.00, I loved that price! Lotus Kitchen was super busy during my visit, this area of the store was packed, I can see why. We enjoyed the fried pork buns, something new and different. Out of both waffles, I enjoyed pandan more as I am not a fan of durian. Def. a must stop for me the next time I visit and I want to plan it better so I can bring some extra goods back home to Honolulu with me. #41/2019

Yelp
Fantastic and convenient! Though Hong Phat is not my nearest Asian grocery store, I go out of my way to shop here in order to pick up some goodies from Lotus Kitchen. In addition to the standard pre-prepared items and meals that you would find at many Vietnamese delis, the menu production team is always experimenting and introducing new food and snacks to the menu.

Yelp
Lotus kitchen is a caterer that makes Vietnamese ready to go goodies available in Hong Phat Food supermarket. Got Viet banh cuon( rice cake filled ground pork) and it was good. I refrigerated it and didn't eat it right away. I'm sure it would have been great eaten the day bought. Nevertheless still good. The filing is a little bland which is why fish sauce accompanies it. They make many more goodies which I'm going to buy today before heading home to Maine. Prices are great and so affordable for ready made food. Banh cuon was $5.95 for a container that can serve up to 3 people wow what a deal!

Yelp
Love the pandan waffles here! Although the location makes it seem like just a regular deli in a supermarket, the place is it's own little grab and go. Would definitely recommend grabbing a banh mi and some salad rolls from here. I haven't really tried the drinks here yet, but the food is great and competitively priced compared to others in the area.

Yelp
This place is so underrated. They have amazing food that is already prepared. You can just go in and pick out exactly what you want. I always come when I need something quick on the go and their quality is good and consistent

Yelp
I really like their wide range of options. I always get the fresh waffles. The food is always fresh, as well as great portions for the price! I also like that I can customize my drinks to my liking I recommend their fresh sugar cane whanever it is in season!

Yelp
My go-to spot for quick lunch and lazy dinner. They have variety of Vietnamese food range from banh mi to roasted pork. Their Thai ice tea or Vietnamese coffee are super yummy as well. Highly recommend if you want to get some quality Vietnamese at a reasonable price

Yelp
This place was great. I took my family here & the service was on point. I would come again!

Yelp
I come here a couple times to get some fresh made sandwiches, rice, meats, and they never seem to disappoint. They have this lemon grass chicken that's amazing that I got last time I went and I would definitely recommend this spot to friends and family. If something isn't fresh there (which i doubt because they tend to sell everything) just ask them and they'll get it done

Yelp
Lotus Kitchen helped provide banh mi and salad rolls for our wedding, and we and our guests couldn't have been happier. The food was absolutely delicious, beautiful, ready promptly, and a great bargain. Tony and his staff are so generous and kind. We had guests telling is it was the best food at a wedding they had ever had. Lotus Kitchen really is one of the best places to get Vietnamese for an event.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant. The service is amazing. Staff are friendly. The food is fire. Highly recommend!

Megan H.

Yelp
Your Banh mi used to be sooo good. The banh mi dac biet the last few times I've gotten it doesn't have enough pate and the Mayo isn't the original anymore it tastes like normal Mayo. Less cha Lua too and the bread isn't as light and airy

Duy T.

Yelp
First of all, the food is fantastic every time I come to this place. Their customer service is great and they're always so nice. Even during this pandemic, they keep everything so clean and neat. 10/10

Yelp
They serve very good take out meals & deserts. Lots of selection between vietnamese dishes & they also serve tasty drinks. Their rice plates are very filling for a reasonable price. Great for anyone looking for a quick grab & go meal.

Angela N.

Yelp
I absolutely love Lotus Kitchen! My favorites are the pandan waffles and boba! Staff there are the best. They're super friendly and enthusiastic. Love them

Valerie N.

Yelp
Best spot to ever go to when in the SE!! What's best is that it's also inside a market. Amazing food that is ready to go and one of the best places to get drinks! (⁎⁍ ⁍⁎) all of the staff members are amazing especially the manager!!

Mandie S.

Yelp
Lotus kitchen is my go-to! Such delicious comfort food, you can never go wrong with all of the dishes they offer. I also love how the meals are packaged. Easy, accessible, convenient, quality food! Will always recommend to my friends and family.

Alan D.

Yelp
I enjoyed ordering here, the staff was very friendly and responsive. They made the food in a timely manner, I got in and out relatively quickly. I recommend trying their banh mi with grilled pork. I will probably end up going again to try out other stuff on the menu.

Tracy T.

Yelp
Food is always tasty and consistent. My go-to drinks are Vietnamese coffee, sugarcane, and Thai tea. I really like that the food are made in house and always fresh; it's like having homemade food at an affordable price. Pandan waffles is a must have if you haven't tried it.

Nathan P.

Yelp
This is a perfect place to go for a quick bite. Food is excellent always hot and ready to go. My experience here was wonderful. Great staff and service. Did I mention that it's in a grocery shop? Do your grocery shop and grab food at the same time. I highly recommend this place to anyone who love Vietnamese dish or wants to try it!

Sara M.

Yelp
I am not a bad person and wouldn't give a bad review but this is ridiculous. Foods great but the drinks are horrible. This is my 2nd attempt here and the first time failed because it did not taste good at all. I order a strawberry lemonade that tasted watery. Not great for how much your paying. So i try to give them another try and i asked for hong kong tea with crystal boba. It was horrendous! It was like i was slurping syrup or drinking 100% condense milk. Sweeter than candy. Absolutely not edible. There was no taste of tea in there. $5-$7 for non-drinkable drink. Seriously? To the point i can not drink it. Are you trying to give people diabetes? I left before trying it that was my fault. Never buying boba tea there. 1 star for hard work but 0 for the drink. Advice: You guys need to learn how to make the drinks, not just open it and give people sloppy drinks. Truth hurts but you'll learn from these false to do better.

Yelp
This is a great place to stop for a snack when I'm on this side of town. I've only had the Vietnamese iced coffee, the pandan waffles and the two types of steamed buns so far. All delicious, especially the waffles. It seems random though whether or not they are making waffles. I pretty much go at the same time, some days they have them, some days not.
