Nature and Parks in Belfast

"A short northbound train journey will bring you to Loughshore Park, in the outer suburb of Jordanstown. Unsurprisingly, the park is situated on the shore of Belfast Lough, which opens up onto the Irish Sea. Standing on the sand, you can breathe in the sea air while looking across to Belfast’s famous shipyards. There’s also plenty of family-friendly activities, including play parks, a lengthy promenade, and outdoor gym facilities." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Loughshore Caravan Park might be just on my doorstep, but it feels like a true getaway. Nestled right along the edge of Belfast Lough, it boasts some of the most incredible views you’ll find. Watching the ships sail in and out of the harbor is a real treat—there’s something magical about seeing everything from bustling cargo vessels to sleek cruise liners glide by against the backdrop of the water. The park itself is well-maintained, clean, and wonderfully laid-back. The pitches are spacious and positioned to make the most of the lough’s beauty. Whether you’re staying for a night or a week, the facilities are reliable, and the staff are warm and welcoming, always ready to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Loughshore is the perfect mix of convenience and tranquility. For locals like me, it’s a fantastic spot to soak in the maritime charm of Belfast Lough, and for visitors, it’s an unforgettable slice of Northern Ireland’s beauty. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic escape.

A great little sight. Toilets & showers were very clean, we also used the laundry facilities which were great. Good sized flat pitches, grey & black waste facility. Noisy road but we still slept well. Bus stop just outside to catch the bus into Belfast & the driver was very helpful telling us where to get the bus for our return.

Originally booked for one night before the early ferry. Stayed for three nights as I wanted to explore Belfast. The park is very well equipped with water, grey disposal and EHU on the pitch. Showers and toilets well kept despite there being no warden on-site. The washing machine is out of order, not a problem for me but maybe for others if they need it. Pitches are if a decent size and looked to be all quite level. Biggest downfall is the road, it is an extremely busy road from 5am right through to midnight and beyond. I can actually sleep through most things but if you’re a light sleeper then this may not be the place for you. Back to the showers, it may depend on how busy it is but I went for a shower around 9am and the water was lukewarm at best. I put it off until afternoon and it was much better. So either get up early or wait until later. Another peculiarity was the refuse situation, most sites nowadays have recycling facilities and I’d have thought being council run that this would be the case but no, everything into one skip!

Used to be a hustling and bustling wee Spot to get a Ice Cream or a Burger and Chips from the Burger Van and sit on the seafront but not anymore, Belfast City Council doesn't let any Food Trucks into the site to serve to public has went downhill in atmosphere over the years 👎

Great site if you want to visit Belfast. Good facilities and a lovely park overlooking the Lough. Restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. Access is via a code and an electric gate. The only downside is the noise from a nearby busy road, but you can't have everything.

When we arrived for our week stay the site was full of travellers, and we are by no means discriminative of anyone, but we asked for a refund due to their intimidating behaviour after we stayed one night !. The staff were afraid of them and we were informed by the park administrator from the council they wanted to stay all summer !. When we complained we were expelled from the site with immediate effect and told our code for the gate was no longer in use and the staff in the cafe woud let us out of the park. As we were leaving they moved one of the travellers caravans into our space. Therefore, even though the staff were afraid and knowing our concerns they allowed them to stay. The council administrator demonstrated that they had no control by giving us a refund instead of alternative dates as per the site rules and I use the term " rules " loosely ! We got the impression that as long as they got the money they didn't care less. The plans for the new Loughshore Park would need to include measures to keep users and staff safe or its going to be a multi million pound travellers camp.

We had a brilliant time at Loughshore, beautiful walks along the shore and views of Belfast Harbour at night were lovely. The train station to Belfast is about a 15 min walk away and is £6.50 return. Very close to great cafes and restaurants. An excellent well used children's park looked fantastic.

Yelp
An absolutely class park. You feel like you're not in Northern Ireland, that's because the facilities are so good - you have an outdoor gym, a kids play park and a fully equipped cafe - not to mention an enclosed caravan park. The walk itself is short, it stretches around 2km perfect for walking a tiny dog. The views are fantastic, you can look over Belfast lough at North Down and on a clear day you can pick out individual buildings. There's plenty of informational signs at Loughshore explaining the different wildlife one might expect to see at the park. One criticism would be the amount of litter on the beach area of the park, obviously there's nothing they can do of people choose to chuck their empty beer cans on the beach but perhaps it could be better enforced! All in all a great park, a lovely fresh walk with great faciliti

Yelp
This is a nice place for a stroll along the shore. The terrain is flat and suitable for prams and wheelchairs etc. It's quite a short walk and has a few benches along the way to rest and take in the views of Belfast Lough. Theres also a lovely little coffee shop beside a large kids play area. The play area was packed with some very happy kids so it definitely must be a thumbs up. Theres a large parking area and a separate caravan park nearby. Worth a little stop off if you've an extra half an hour.

Yelp
This is a local park that I have driven past every day for years but have only recently started walking here with the dog. There is a Playpark for kids which is well equipped and maintenance is kept up to date, there is also a coffee shop which sells some of the best traybakes I have ever tasted! Also on the grounds is a small caravan site, holds approx 14 caravans with hard site and parking. There is electricity, good toilet/washing facilities and the caravan park is very secure.

Yelp
Jordanstown Loughshore is fairly local to me and I drive past it tice a day on weekdays, so it's a very familiar sight to me. The park is right on the shores of Belfast Lough and I'm old enough to remember when the shore had lots of sand on it, so it was more like a beach, there's less of that now, but it makes for a beautiful walk or run, by yourself, with little ones, or with your dog! There is loads of parking available in the large car park, a bus stop right in front of it, and also within a short stroll of Jordanstown train station. There is an on site caravan park with 14 touring pitches and 4 tent pitches are laid out in a secure landscaped area within the parkland - this is open all year round. There is a large green, enclosed from the road which is great for playing ball games, some free standing exercise equipment, and a large children's play park.

Yelp
This is a great place to sit for a bite to eat, great view over Belfast lough and a nice coffee shop that does a few sandwiches and buns as well as ice cream. There's a good play park for kids and caravan parking too

Yelp
Having just acquired a puppy we were at a loss of where to take him on a wee walk and let him run about, which was safe so that he wouldn't get lost down a hole or disappear into a gathering of trees and get lost. I have a fear someone will grab him if he's off the lead. Loughshore is a great spot, it's a wide open space is a great spot, a stretch of beach and grass for him to run about, it's clearly well tended to, with no rubbish lying about. This place is perfect for bringing the kids to also, lots of rock pools to go an explore the wildlife in or kick a ball about in the grass, and you can plnk yourself down on a bench and just watch! They also have a Barista Coffee shop at the entrance if you need warmed up after your mammoth walk with a four week old puppy....
