South Congress Barbecue Trailer Louie’s BBQ Is Heading to Buda - Eater Austin

"Louie’s BBQ, originally located at 4329 South Congress Avenue, is moving to Buda, Texas. It will continue to serve its menu of Tex-Mex-influenced barbecue, including brisket, pulled pork, and sausage, along with sides like mac and cheese and potato salad. The move is motivated by the saturation of the Austin barbecue scene and the upcoming opening of Saint Elmo Public Market at the original location." - Erin Russell

Google
I love barbecue so I love to try any new BBQ place. When we found ourselves hungry for dinner in Buda, we decided to try this awesome food truck. Their brisket and BBQ sauce are very good. The brisket is so tender & delicious. There is outdoor seating so if you had a dog, you would also at least be able to take him there too. I try to go every time I’m nearby. . Highly Recommend this when you are in beautiful Buda.

Google
This place was damn good! We got off our flight from OR and immediately went to find some bbq and they didn’t disappoint. Cute outdoor dining and very cool little set up. Great service from the guy there too. Would absolutely go back!

Google
Located off the Main St in Buda, this little BBQ food truck has a large offering of menu items and a great little area to sit outside. Their brisket was pretty good, just lacked some of the smokiness flavor that I look for in Texas BBQ. The jalapeño queso sausage was great! They have a variety of meats, so I’m excited to try some different things next time. Great location and easy gravel lot parking in the back. The customer service was good as well, very friendly employees.

Google
My first taste of texas bbq was here at louies Craft bbq. What an introduction to great texas flavors. I had the texas trinity a combo of brisket, pulled pork, and sausage all topped with slaw, pickles, and pickled onion served on a fresh homemade roll. I've been hooked ever since.

Google
So we came by because my brother wanted to try some barbecue from here I've had food from here before I feel like it was better but I don't know. I just feel like I couldn't differentiate this from Rudy's and that sucks cuz I really want this to be better than Rudy's. I ordered a brisket taco and a pulled pork taco with some mac and cheese It was just okay Mac and cheese was just okay I will say though they had some pickles that they like seems like they make maybe and it had sliced onions or radishes in it and it was really good. Parking was a little hard and there are no restrooms here. Not entirely sure if I'll come back.

Google
This place is run from a trailer and has a large outdoor area with picnic tables. Ordered a sliced brisket sandwich. This came with sliced picked jalapeños. The sandwich was huge with thick slices of brisket, some coleslaw, pickles, and red onions. The combination was tremendously delicious and did not need any BBQ sauce as it stood on its own. I very much enjoyed every bit of the sandwich while popping slices of jalapeños to add some heat. The outside environment in the evening was very refreshing and relaxing while dining here. This place knows how to prepare excellent food!

Google
Got referred by the nice folks at Water and Wine. Stopped by to try the brisket. Ordered a half pound of moist. It's way more than moist and incredibly delicious. I love food trucks that can produce products that are beyond the brick and mortar big players. We'll be back for dinner. What a great find!

Google
We live down the road on 967 and just never made time to stop in. We finally said we were gonna try this BBQ joint after the 5th person told us how good the food was. The crew serving our food was great and friendly, the BBQ was TOP tier, and the outdoor setting was perfect on a cool afternoon. I want to mention, the brisket baked potato (all the way of course) is an amazing meal for two. It’s that big and filling. I came back the next day and tried the Brisket taco, Oh man, we found our new fav BBQ!!

Yelp
So this is a food truck and they have a cute little outdoor seating area. They were so nice there and you want to recommend. Also very polite they would tell you thank you and you're welcome for anything which I found very appreciative of them. We got a mix of meats. Also, some sides and it came with pickles, jalapeños, and pickled onions, which were phenomenal. In my opinion that they should sell these pickles by the jar. I will say the ribs were delicious the meat which is fall off of the bone. The brisket was so good and they were very thick slices. I have to say the sausage is OK was a little dry for me but the seasonings and it was good. We also got turkey breast. I didn't try it, but my friends said that it was really nice and smoked flavored. As for the sides, we got the mac & cheese, which was really good tasting cheese, but I do feel the mac & cheese needed a little bit more flavor. This street corn was good and very flavorful. Lastly, they do give you barbecue sauce. It was sweet and tangy, which was really good. I am more of a spicy barbecue person. I don't know if they had any since I didn't ask, but that would be my only consideration having a spicy barbecue sauce. I would definitely go again and try one of their sandwiches and other sides as well so definitely if you're in the area I would go check them out because they are really good barbecue.

Yelp
Had multiple great experiences here until this evening. My complaint this time is for the food and lack of attention to detail. Meats very dry - almost not edible and surely not enjoyable. Seems as if they've been sitting out under a warmer for quite some time. Ordered and paid for a side of Mac n cheese that never made it in my to go order. I also stood there at the pickup window for a bit while the young kid working inside played on his phone and didn't even notice I was standing there. Had this been my first experience here, I would definitely not return. 3 stars only for the pleasant experiences I've had here previously. Maybe they've gone downhill? Maybe the kids working inside are too preoccupied on their phones?

Yelp
I ordered a brisket Sando and had favor pick it up and run it over to me. I paid $18 for the sandwich and $6 for delivery. This is the amount of brisket that isn't fat or have the black ends. It tastes good but I use sweet baby rays sauce instead of theirs. Just wish so much wasn't fat or blackened.
google avatar

Yelp
Good bbq! The food came out really fast, there's ton of outside seating (no indoor because it's a truck). Still cute little outdoor area. The bbq is a little over powering, meat is delicious.

Yelp
Man, Louie's is our favorite BBQ place. The BBQ is dependably delicious. It's not far off of Franklins for a flavor profile. They then also do unique specials like Burn Ends, giant ribs, Nachos, and baked potatoes. Louie's isn't flashy but they don't have a 3 hour line, the workers are friendly and they always treat our family well. Plus they have giant tea and limeade to wash it all down.

Yelp
Brisket: 4 Ribs: 3 Turkey: 3 Jalapeño queso sausage: 3 Mac n Cheese: 4 Mexican rice: 3 Overall = 3. Solid spot. If you lived in the town, I could see why you'd come. If you venture out, many other options to prioritize and frequent.

Yelp
I love Louie's BBQ so much. Their chopped brisket baked potato is one of my fave meals on earth. I just need to remember that if I have it for lunch, a long siesta is required that day. They have lots of shaded seating now, which is great. And you can order online for pick up. No waiting for BBQ in line in the hot sun for this cowgirl! Louie's Mexican street corn is the best I've ever had. All their sides are great, actually. And the brisket is melt in your mouth heavenly. Very very lucky to have them so local. I've even bought a cooked ham from them one Christmas (or was it Easter ) which was superb. Lovely friendly people, fast service, laid back atmosphere. A true gem of a place! If you're considering it... GO!

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is the Best BBQ place in Buda. Try their loaded baked potato it's delicious and full of flavor and yummy. They have a cute seating area in the back and it's covered if you want to eat there. Buda needs to keep this place in business and keep returning. I absolutely love this little spot and highly recommend this place to anyone that is visiting our sweet little town. The service is spot on and always greeted with a smile. The best hidden food secret in Buda.

Yelp
The stars: Angus brisket, Smoked Turkey sandwich, pulled pork potato and creamy Mac n cheese!! The sidekicks: the bread slices were good toasted, the bbq sauce was tasty, and the pickles and onions on the side sealed the deal. They lost a star because Mexican rice and corn salsa was just awful. Like nobody ate it. They both had way too much seasoning or something. I usually love both items from other places but not this time. Aside from that - delicious bbq and we will be back!!

Yelp
We were staying with friends in Kyle and had plans to get a more well-known named bbq in Austin but we woke up late and were too impatient. Best impatient outcome ever! I've waited for 6 hours for Snows BBQ and traveled all over Texas to tiny towns and cities alike in seek of brisket and jalepeño sausage. (and unfortunately, I've eaten bbq in other states who claim to have bbq--lies). But, this was in my and my spouse's top 5. Some of my other favs are Stanley's (Tyler), Desert Oak (EP), Salt Lick (austin). Totally unexpected and a complete joy. Brisket, like butter. Homemade bun worth an extra (erm or 5) miles of running. The house made pickled onions and cucumbers were the perfect addition to cut the rich butter, I mean brisket sandwich. You can get lean or regular for those wondering. Our only complaint is that we don't like sweet sauce and theirs was a bit sweet. I like more pepper. However, my sandwich didn't need sauce, so no biggie. But also I really love sauce so this is my plea to them to make a spicy or more peppery sauce as a 2nd sauce option. Love love love! 200 stats Omg how did I forget to tell you--Get the queso. Just do it. No hem hawing. Just do it.

Yelp
Louie's. Probably the best trailer I've ever been to. Extremely underrated as a BBQ spot. Tucked away off f Buda's Main Street and the crew there are all super friendly. It's outdoor seating so I always just takeaway but if you're strolling around Buda you'd enjoy the ambience of the tall trees and local feel. My go to is the brisket potato. I've never once eaten the whole thing in one sitting. Usually it takes 2-3 meals to get through one potato. Their brisket chili is also phenomenal but a couple of times I've gotten a lot of fat on the brisket and little meat. The flavor is unbeatable though. Their Mac and cheese is one of my all time favorites. They have fantastic tacos and pulled pork as well. I actually prefer their tacos to Valentina's, please don't hurt me. All in all, a wonderful spot, fairly priced, epic portions.

Yelp
Delicious bbq right in downtown great old buda Texas! Huge outdoor seating with covered benches to tear up those ribs and enjoy some sunshine

Yelp
Brisket and sausage are out of this world good! They have fast, friendly service. I love getting the brisket bowl with corn, beans, greens, and brisket with crema on top. It's a huge portion, good enough for two meals. So awesome! Never disappoints - ever! Their Mac-n-cheese is decadent and delicious. They have great specials and their buns for their bbq sandwiches is excellent- really tops off the whole meal. Love this place and so glad they're in Buda! We take our out of town visitors here every time!

Yelp
I really wish my arteries could handle brisket every day, cause if they could I'd be at Louie's on the regular. Nestled in downtown Buda, Louie's is a casual, chill backyard Austin BBQ joint that I have gone back to twice since coming the first time. I love walking into their dining area and smelling nothing but smoke and beef. Service is friendly, patient and fast! I loved their brisket. Loved it. I could have eaten it all night. Their pulled pork was equally delicious and tender. Great smoke flavor and perfectly seasoned. Neither were too salty which we appreciated, but both were gone in 2 minutes! The ribs. Oh my goodness. They have some kind of brown sugar glaze situation going on that I was not expecting, and YES. YES PLEASE. While I did like their sauce, none of it needs it as all of it is great as is. Really well done, simple, makes smoked meats look easy to make when I know it isn't. But those ribs? Eaten in one minute. We had to tear the rib bone away from son! We are so excited to have Louie's so close to where we live and can't wait to go back again and again!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service! Hands down best BBQ in the state. Highly recommended
google avatar

Luis C.

Yelp
Wow amazing little gem here... Not from the area but the gentlemen behind the counter recommended me a delicious turkey bowl honestly so dam satisfying Thank you food came out in less than 3 minutes so tasty!!

Michael M.

Yelp
Got a party catered by Louie's for 25+ people. Got brisket, pulled pork and a bunch of sides. Everything was incredible from the service to set up to overall taste of the different courses. This is my favorite bbq spot in town. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Awesome place the location is a true barbecue location. Great food, great service cool atmosphere.
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Finally tried Louie's this past weekend and am kicking myself for not going sooner! We tried the chopped brisket sandwich, moist brisket, smoked turkey breast, coleslaw, and mac&cheese. Everything was amazing. I've never had slaw quite like that and all I can say is wow. That turkey and brisket were some of the best I've tasted too! After some underwhelming trips to Lockhart and other local bbq spots, this will be my new spot for sure.
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
Great bbq. The brisket is awesome, I've had it a few times and it never disappoints. You NEED to try the chopped smoked turkey baked potato, it is sooo tasty. Definitely going back to try more items. They are expanding their little spot with covered tables and some activities for the kids.

Matt F.

Yelp
So , the bbq was good but I will never return and I live two blocks away .i am a patriot .That being said any busness that refuses to accept American cash money might as well be communist Chinese's. Lots of brave men and women have died for us and by not accepting cash they spit in veterans faces .Lots of great bbq all over the place, spend your "cash" elsewhere .God bless buda .

Sunshine C.

Yelp
Foods always great but the guys who work here are so rude to spend this much money an be treated like I'm bothering them when asking for an order I purchased already just krazy . 5 stars for food 2 for customer service . I literally just left there walked up to ask the guy from my order and was so rude not give me a second. I'll be right with you. Can you wait kid came in and out 34 times again still ignored me so good luck for future visitors don't give me wrong the foods amazing but to be treated like I'm crap and be charged so much is not worth it.
google avatar

Chris U.

Yelp
I think this place is a hidden gem and I almost don't want to say anything because I'm afraid it will get "discovered" and it will become a spot where you have to wait in line for 6 hours and risk the food selling out (not like my measly review can cause that). I recommend trying the potatoes...with any meat and you won't be disappointed or hungry, for probably 2 days after. The brisket tacos are fantastic and the sausages snap and are great. This is hands down my favorite BBQ spot to go on a regular.
google avatar

Steven G.

Yelp
I'm speaking from craving right now. I had Louie's a few weeks ago. It's so good. My go to is the turkey. It has a nice kick of flavor in your mouth. Sausage is good, very tasty and I did enjoy the brisket. But I dipped the brisket and sausage in the sauce and ate it. Am I eating the bbq or the sauce? (Similar to A-1 steak sauce to steak, you shouldn't put it on if it that's good. But it's BBQ. Sauce is king. Let's talk sides. My favorite side is their Mac n cheese. It's a white cheese sauce that so creamy and delicious. Sleeper side, their RICE! Oh my goodness, I'm Mexican, and their rice is better than the way my mom cooks it. I can't wait to go back. Their hours are open later in the week, which for me is my work schedule. I need to pencil them in my calendar to have again.
google avatar

Lexi Y.

Yelp
They have really good brisket and the 3 meat baked potato is a standout item at this spot for me! Ask for pickled onions and extra crema! Also, I love the outdoor seating when the weather is nice!
google avatar

Joel F.

Yelp
Stop driving all the way out to Salt Lick. The barbecue here is so good. Plenty of seating in the area, or take it to go. Every time I go they get the order out quick, I've never had a bad meal there. Pricing is in line with the area, definitely cheaper than most meat joints in Austin and better quality food. I suggest the 1/2 pound brisket sandwich-great if you're a pig like me, or if you make good life choices, split it with a loved one. Park nearby, there's plenty of public parking.

Robert B.

Yelp
Food is great, portions are good, and price is reasonable for what you get! Plenty of outdoor seating as well
google avatar

Loe V.

Yelp
We've been loyal customers for years now. The food is fantastic! The workers are nice and friendly. Unfortunately, there's been several times recently that the hours said they were open and no one is there. We went today, it says on their website that they're open starting today 1/4, and no one is there. It's really unprofessional and it's really not difficult to put up accurate hours online. We drive from 25 minutes away to visit, and it's just not acceptable for no one to be there when the website and hours both say that they're open.

Pam L.

Yelp
I posted on Saturday the about the disappointing service at Louie's. I want to give them a HUGE shout out. The owner contacted us within 10 minutes from another posting. He took care of the issues ASAP. That's a great company!! Can't wait for next Saturday with awesome tacos from Louie's !!
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Good but overcooked a bit. Service was fast. I would come back. It's a bit expensive tho. 7/10. Tea was Extra sweet if you're into that.
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
They are only open a few days a week and over the holidays they have been closed a long time. They are often closed when it says online they will be open with no notice on thier socials. Bad buissess

Joshua R.

Yelp
Their service was friendly and helpful, the food was good with the portion size being excellent for the price but just one thing the sausage was a little dry for my taste. Other than that do recommend this place for good bbq!!
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
I'm continually impressed with Buda and Louie's was no different. This place has everything you need-incredible bbq, a multitude of options, picnic tables galore, and bags. (Also known as cornhole) The guys serving up the food we're super helpful in deciding what to get and they even bring it over, which is a nice switch up to having stand near a typical food truck to hear your order called. The portions were ginormous, totally worth every penny. I also love that they thought about the kids and have games and a play place to keep them busy. Family friendly, spacious and the wood burning fireplace has the whole spot smelling fantastic! We will be back Louie!
google avatar

Candace B.

Yelp
I'm glad I gave this place another chance! While a previous experience included some very dry pork, I have since had several enjoyable meals from Louie's. I believe myself a Mac n' cheese connoisseur and they have some of the best I have had outside of a soul food restaurant. Their Mac n' cheese is cheesy, flavorful, and full of queso Blanco cheese. And their sweet chili barbecue beans and jalapeño potato salad are bomb. If you want some delicious barbeque this is the place to go!

Crystal C.

Yelp
Love it!! Crave it, almost always on Tuesdays when they are closed but it gives me something to look forward to. My only complaint would be they don't take cash!
google avatar

Tammi B.

Yelp
WHOA!!! I just experienced the best loaded baked potato of my life. Called The Texas Trinity, it was truly a spiritual moment of divine dining piled high with pulled pork, brisket, sausage, cheese, sour cream, and bbq sauce. The potato was big enough to share but "not today", I wanted to be selfish and save some for later. Thanks again, Matthew for running our order across the street. Your potatoes were meat masterpieces.
google avatar

Reuben M.

Yelp
I've lived in Central Texas my whole life and know good BBQ. The things this joint has going for it, is location, and service using takeout Favor service. I smoke my own queue using post oak. One of the things they do is light a pit, so that you can smell the aroma of classic central Texas Que. The brisket is tender, and of higher quality meats. The big issue here is, if you are gonna have a pit lit, the brisket better be served at 175. The sides were meh. The beans are bland and need lots of work. Don't even bother with the elote corn. Tasted like overcooked raw corn dribbled with some fancy sauce that did nothing. The bun used for the brisket sandwich was super fresh, and served wirh 1/2 pound lean brisket. It's average priced and below my expectations of Texas BBQ. My wife said the salad was ok, but average brisket. Our kid loved the baked potato, Spent $50 on these three items, side of elote corn and two canned sodas.
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
Great BBQ without the wait, especially since it's easy to pre-order online. I've gotten takeout a couple of times and have tried the sausage, ribs, barbacoa, and sliced brisket sandwich. I love the slaw (it's not creamy nor heavy - I'm not a mayo fan) as well as the elote. Reasonable prices for quality meat. I'll be back!

Morgan P.

Yelp
11/10 This place is LEGIT. I am kind of a BBQ snob, and this is definitely in the top places to go for Texas BBQ. I was floored. SO SO GOOD.
google avatar

Adrea P.

Yelp
This is the best damn BBQ sandwich I've had in a long time. Great slaw, good sauce, nice buttery bun. Could definitely feed 2 people. Was worth waiting in 30-degree weather - they were quick with friendly service.
google avatar

Janice S.

Yelp
All I can say is YUM! Expanding seating outdoors only- take it home or eat it Al fresco
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
It's not Valentina's but it's pretty dang close and it's much closer to home with a nicer seating situation. We have yet to have anything we didn't love here and the last time we went the staff was cognizant of the weather and pack our stuff up "to go" just in case it started to storm while we were there. Also our 2.5 year old appreciated the slide he could play on :)
google avatar

Ellis J.

Yelp
Nice folks with especially great BBQ. I knew the original owner of Louie's he could really put a smoke on a meat pound of meat. The newest owners haven't missed a beat and may have upped the BBQ game. In any case it's ALL good. On my last pass through downtown Buda, I noticed the seating has expanded into the adjacent lot. Excellent, but close by parking though. The staff works to please and will make every effort to satisfy the customer. You may have to park over in front of the old Buda, downtown library, but walk is worth the effort for the BBQ.

Christopher H.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and overall the food is overpriced. 20$ for a potato with brisket. They also don't accept cash. And for me that why I am leaving this review. Very unAmerican if you ask me. Overpriced and they don't accept cash. 2 stars for you

Maxson B.

Yelp
Best bbq in Kyle//Buda/South Austin. Loaded baked potato and sandwiches are 10/10, Im hooked on the brisket and turkey.
google avatar

Katrina B.

Yelp
Y'alllll I'm in LOVE. We're staying with friends in Buda and this place came highly recommended--definitely lives up to their glowing rec! We got the chopped bbq sandwich, taco combo (one pulled pork and one brisket taco), potato salad, and elote. The sourdough bun on the bbq sandwich was incredible on its own, add in the fact that the entire thing is HUGE and the slaw makes it mouthwatering, it's an excellent option. Also, there is SO much meat on this sandwich you could bring it home and make an amazing omelette in the morning with it The tacos were also incredible, the homemade beef tallow tortillas brought the already great meats to a new level. The jalapeño sauce and Mexican crema on top are *chefs kiss*. I personally preferred the pulled pork taco. Their potato salad really hits the mark, I'd recommend at least a small side to try a bit out. Perfect texture. The ELOTEEEEEE. A total must order, I even got an extra order to go before we left. We got our food to stay and sat at their picnic tables. The vibe is solid and I enjoyed eating outside in the shade, such a relaxing eating experience on those bright blue tables with cute string lights throughout the trees
google avatar

Candy W.

Yelp
Super great bbq joint in downtown Buda. We visited on a busy Sunday evening and service was quick. We enjoyed everything we sampled, but the sandwiches and Mac and cheese were our favorites. Our family thinks this may be our new favorite bbq place.
google avatar

Liz T.

Yelp
I've been going to Louie's since they opened. Not only do they have the best Mac n cheese but the meats are so juicy and flavorful. We tried their catering service for a family event and the entire experience was fantastic. The owner Matt was so helpful advising on what we needed for 60 people. We had plenty of food and sides for everyone at a great rice. The quality of the food is top notch, pick up was easy and the customer service is excellent. Our guests really enjoyed the food which helped make our event a memorable experience.

Yelp
I've tried. I've tried to love Louie's - I really have. It's all of 5 minutes from my house and so far out of four orders myself/family have placed online, only one has been fulfilled. I get it, they make 'x' amount per day and when they're sold out, they're sold out. It's the ole Texas BBQ supply/demand method. All good - i'm used to it being born/raised in Texas. But c'mon now, potatoes last a long time. Trust me, I have 2-3 sitting in a bowl on my counter that've been there about a week and a half. However, it's wild to me that you can "sell out" of a fairly shelf stable staple like a potato. Seems like the "buzz" around LCB on the local Buda groups is the BBQ potato, and with so few "healthy" options in the area - I get it that this is a nice in-between meal somewhere north of healthy but south of the fried fast food on 35 service for many in Buda. At that, seems like if you are sold out of an item the online ordering system would reflect that. I know it takes an extra bit of time to do so, but i've seen it done on the regular at Valentina's down the road and other similar trucks, and it makes life immensely easier for both staff and those ordering. I appreciate you all trying to call, but being so close by, I left my phone at home, nor was a VM left... so I didn't find out until I got to the truck. I can say, however, the one meal that we did actually get - it was solid. The meat had good flavor, the potato salad side was fantastic, and the wait to pickup was relatively short. Sadly, it's more of a headache than anything trying to guess what they may have one day and not the other - so until things get fixed or we're looking for a lunch order, we'll probably hold on future ordering and/or hit one of the other BBQ trucks in the S. ATX area. We have faith in you, Louie!
