Had a private dinner here with a group of friends. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The only thing I would have changed was the balsamic dressing on the beat salad was strong enough. Incredible service, people, and food. All local.

Google
Love this place but the bacon hasn’t be great lately. Almost all fat on the last couple orders. Obviously I expect a decent amount of fat, but when it’s cooked there’s hardly anything to really eat.

Had my meats cut up and ready to purchase along with a 4pk of beer and the person checking me out told me my ID was fake?????? It's very clearly not I don't even know what she based that on. That is the rudest I've ever been treated and was honestly in shock. Completely unacceptable customer service. I would gladly come back and have my ID examined again and accept the apology thats warranted. This is an edit. I would like to know why you feel the need to humiliate potential customers for trying to do business with you.

Wanted nice steaks for my birthday so decided to try Louise Earl, we’ll be back! The steaks were tender and great! We also enjoyed trying a number of the different sausages. The best surprise, though, was the service. They helped us pick out lots of wine and truly knew their stuff!

I messaged the ahead of time and they had my stuff ready to go! Everyone in there was helpful and nice. Loved the extra stuff they have for sale too. Highly recommend checking them out for your meat needs.

This is the place I have been looking for my whole life. Amazing is all I can say. I have tried many of their products and nothing has disappointed me at all. Great sausages, house made pate and terrine, house made lunch meat that will blow your mind. While in the military I lived in Europe for 6 years and always went to France to shop for groceries. In France/Europe we would get the pate and terrine that were so tasty. Coming back to the US we had a hard time finding pate and terrine, until now! On my first visit I met one of the owners who was very nice, helpful, and willing to share her story and processes with me. This should be everyone's butcher. The sausage is super tasty and moist. They even have classes on sausage and pate making. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Especially if you are a fan of tasty meat, seasoned to perfection, and a promise to use all of the animal with minimal waste.

Walked by lots of times and thought I’d stop by and try them. I like that they sell locally raised beef and pork. Purchased sausage to grill, they look delicious, anxious to try them. Update…tried them, delicious!

Stopped in for the first time over the weekend. The woman at the counter was extremely friendly and explained exactly what the shop does and where they get their meat. Very impressed I've been looking for a place like this forever. We ate the steaks last night and oh my goodness the meat is the best we have had in ages. Can't wait to come back and try more cuts do not pass this place by what a gem!💎

Yelp
This review is based on a Dinner and a Movie event hosted by Louise Earl Butcher in February 2024. They've done a couple of these events now and it was super fun and such a unique experience. Tickets were $45 and included a five course pairing of foods that went with the movie, Julie & Julia. We were seated in comfy chairs in their side room at communal tables. You can purchase beer or wine (or NA options) from their retail shop to enjoy with the meal. We got a good recommendation for a nice lighter bodied red wine that we shared. The menu included bruschetta, oysters, beef bourguignon, a cheese course, and a pear tart. Service throughout the movie lined up pretty well so we were enjoying the same dishes as the people in the movie, which was fun. The portions were smaller plates, but I didn't feel hungry afterwards. They do other dinner experiences here and I'm looking forward to checking another event out in the future. The main function of Louise Earl is a butcher shop and small market. I noticed that they have housemade deli meats which I'm really interested in trying. They also have housemade sausages that vary weekly and lots of cuts of meat that I don't usually see at other places.

Yelp
First time stopping by to check out their weekly feature. This kimchi burger is made with their delicious grass fed beef patties, housemade sambal aioli (sometime pls tell me what that is) and a Field and Fire bun! I thought the highlight of this would be either the beef or the bun, but it turned out to be the sambal aioli. It reminded me of a classic chipotle aioli but with a bit more depth to the spice. If they sold jars of this sauce it'd be a hit. The kimchi was pretty mild in terms of sour fermentation flavor, leaning heavy on the savory side. Good crunch to it. Wish it was a bit more spicy. The beef was juicy and wayyyy better than what you'd find at a regular burger joint. I haven't had grass fed beef a ton, but it has a certain "expensive" taste to it. It has all the flavor and texture of regular beef but doesn't have that greasy or overly fatty mouthfeel. Also those people at Field and Fire know how to make some great bread.

Yelp
Lots of meat being butcher in shop, great wine selection and super kind staff. There is even a beautiful event space that can be rented out. I got a couple of sausages for my brother and he absolutely loved them.

Yelp
I decided to stop by on a whim - I saw a smoker going out front and it smelled so good... upon entering i asked the first person I saw if they served lunch - she said that they didn't have hot lunch but that they did have a grab and go cooler - which had some decent looking side salads in it. She then said that they had just taken some wings off of the grill though so I could order some of those and grab a salad from the cooler so I decided to go for it. The wings were labeled as "hot honey" and I could tell they were smoked somehow because of the texture and flavor. I am more of a crispy, fall off the bone wings fan so these were just not my style (tough to split and get off of the bone). From the cooler, I chose a bacon poblano potato salad (it was a bit pricey at $11/lb) but it was pretty good. For around $23, I thought my lunch was a bit steep for not being "in love" with it. This isn't to say the meats in general would be good as I didn't try any to take home - but the way the wings were prepared, were not my cup of tea.

Yelp
My boyfriend's company had at a private dinner here and it was absolutely amazing! The staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating to our party. We had about 20 people and from the moment we walked in, we were blown away! We were promptly greeted and provided drinks and charcuterie as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. About 30 to 40 minutes in (after the cocktail hour), we were asked to sit for the dinner to begin. Each place setting was on locally found china and were well kept and stunning. We found out they had a dozen sets to serve a super large party if needed! Love a thrift store or estate sale find which adds to the uniqueness of the experience here. The food was amazing and well prepared, great presentation and we had plenty leftover to even box up and take home. I drive by everyday but never realized they had event space, so I'm very grateful I could join for this lovely dinner! Unfortunately I don't remember all of what we ate, but none of it was bad. The portions were huge and we even had wine pairings with each meal. 100% recommend for another private event!

Yelp
We got ground beef ( but they didnt say what the fat percentage was but it was alot when I got home to cook it down) and 2 steaks that tasted more like fish than actual beef. Staff was very nice and chill and they have some good pots/knives in stock but the meat didnt meet my expectations

Yelp
It took just one visit for me to see that this is the best butcher in Grand Rapids. Amidst covid times, we should've thought to research how orders were being processed, rather than just showing up with our masks, having assumed the counter service would be open. Luckily, they have a sign out front that explains orders are being placed over the phone. Furthermore, the owner greeted us and was happy to take our order in person. He talked through their product offering thoroughly and friendly before helping us make some decisions. Another patron that was picking up his order participated in the conversation as well, and sung the butcher shop's praises. This place clearly has loyal customers, and we could see why right away! Our order was quickly prepared and we peaked through the window to browse the goodies inside. They sell almost anything you can think of to compliment a barbecue! I even saw the owner load a bag of charcoal into a customer's car. Genius. We asked about seasonings and cook time and were given a variety of options with our desires in mind. We were pretty late-afternoon customers, so some of the popular items were sold out, but we still managed to get a beautiful order: beef spare ribs, pork shoulder, brats, and chicken wings. We mentioned that it was a special day (our wedding day, which was postponed), and they later applied a discount to our order. I am not kidding when I say that this made our whole week! Not expected, but really meaningful. The meat is absolutely delicious and the customer service is unparalleled. The shop has so much character, which makes sense after meeting the very approachable owners, Matt and Cindy. We are loyal customers and I can't wait to return...this week!!

Yelp
Louise Earl Butcher has been serving up 100% grass-fed beef, pork raised on non-GMO feed, lamb that is pastured, and organic & free-range chickens on Wealthy Street for 4 1/2 years now. ⁣ ⁣ Louise Earl is a whole-animal butcher shop, that ONLY partners with local farms that raise their animals without hormones/antibiotics. READ THAT AGAIN ⁣ They personally visit the farms, meet the farmers, see how the animals are being raised, and they prepare everything in house. They don't shy away from letting others know that they recycle and compost responsibly. It's no wonder they won best butcher in 2019 for REVUE West Michigan! ⁣ ⁣ Louise Earl is absolutely amazing. ⁣

Yelp
I heard about this place from the chef at my local favorite restaurant. Had been by 2 dozen times without going in. Finally went in and was FLOORED. First of all every time I go in they have something new to try. Second, the selection is amazing. The first thing I tried was the breakfast sausage. It's not flaky and thin like the stuff you see at a diner. These are thick, compressed hunks of delicious sausage. 2 is plenty for a person. The bacon is among the best I've ever had. I've tried 4 different sausages now, each one has been perfect. Just walked out with some Oaxacan Chorizo and some bright green "Verde" sausages and they sound amazing. Great customer service to boot. And the price is astonishingly reasonable for a small butcher. The quality to cost is frankly unbelievable.

Yelp
If you are looking for specific cuts of meat this is the place to go! They source all of their meat locally with the consumer in mind. Just ask where it came from and they can tell you. They cut all of their meat in house. And their meals to go are to die for. If you want high quality meat and food visit them on wealthy!

Yelp
This butcher shop is on the newly re-gentrified part of south-east Grand Rapids. The owner-operators are dedicated to bringing back the local butcher shop. You know, where your grandparents used to go to get their meat instead of getting the pre-packaged, hormone packed, chemically preserved bulk meat for the masses stuff you get at the mega-stores. They are doing a great job of this. LE get their product from locally sourced organic farmers. They pride themselves on the fact that they order the whole animal (from chickens to cows) and butcher them from head to tail right there in the shop. They dry age some of their meats and are constantly trying new projects and experiments in dry aging and brining. Recently they offered huge tomahawk steaks slowly dry aged and basted in bourbon. Hopefully they will do these again this holiday season. They also offer several different classes in BBQing, smoking, butchering, etc. to help educate and train their customers in the finer art of meat and poultry preparation. We signed up for the BBQ smoking class, BYOB. It was great. Matt and Dan put on a great class. They are also very helpful when it comes to answering any question someone might have about food preparation, aging, cooking, or anything at all. They welcome phone calls and walk-ins and are happy to help. We've purchased meat from here several times since we enjoyed a private holiday dinner event at their locale and we will keep coming back. Yes, their chicken, beef, pork and lamb are a bit more expensive than your chain store hormone and chemical infused products but the quality of their meats are well worth it. With some products they are actually cheaper. The bottom line: if you are looking for top quality, organic, house butchered products from a local butcher shop selling locally sourced products for your next great dinner party, BBQ or smoking session, this is the place to get your meat. Highly recommended.

Yelp
All their meats are local, preservative free, and gluten free. Louise Earl is the safe butcher shop for us gluten-free folks. Meets rotate with new, and maintain staple meets. They have whole duck and lamb. Their deli items offer novel salads/side dishes. They also have potatoes, onions, Nantucket bakery french loaf...specialty canned items and spices. Their canned tomatoes, pastes, meat rubs, and array of chips have saved us when in a pinch. Capers, pickles, hot sauces...coffee! Lovely variety of cheeses, local dairy items, eggs. Check out their classes and inquire about holding a private event. Very cool space that may be a unique venue.

Yelp
I've made this a must stop when I visit Grand Rapids. They have such a wide variety and everything is good. The deli meat, the bacon, the steaks, the sides, the variety of sausage- you cannot go wrong! They are a small business that truly believes in what they're doing and it's evident in the quality of their products. If I lived in the area, I'd be here every week.

Yelp
They carry ONLY grass-fed AND grass-finished beef, perfect for a picky meat eater like myself. I also love how they're a whole-animal butcher. The owners and employees are always friendly and super helpful, great people and excellent meats. Best bacon I've ever had!

Craig V.

Yelp
I frequent this joint every so often for lunch when I'm in the mood for something really good and down for a surprise. The menu is small and continually rotating, yet diverse at the same time. There is something for everyone here. I usually opt for the combo which includes a good portion of a house made side along with the entre. The flavors they pack into the food will linger for some time, which is a good thing. I haven't had one bad experience here and highly recommend you stop by this local butcher if you want to be pleasantly surprised for a meal.

Yelp
Every time I step inside LEB, I feel like a kid in a candy store...except older and with meat. Not only do they carry some beautiful cuts of beef, pork, lamb, and chicken, they source their meats locally and from farms with a dedication to both quality and craft. They also make a variety of traditional and creative sausages, terrines, and deli meats. Should you have the opportunity to attend a butcher's dinner, do it! We had a wonderful, warm, delicious experience getting to know Cindy and Matt and their products.

Jared V.

Yelp
Great grass fed beef. Great service. They cut me this beautiful 3.5 pound ribeye. Easy 5 stars.

Yelp
I walk past here almost everyday, and finally stopped in for the first time in over a year. I'm so glad I did! Their brats are so so good and fun flavors. I'll be back :)

Yelp
Local, natural, organic! We absolutely love the Louise Earl experience!:) excellent cuts of meats, creative side dishes and delicious in house burgers/ tacos. The Owners/employees are always delightful. This place is top notch and will always be on the top of my list of recommendations in the area

Yelp
We stopped at Louise Ear Butcher to check it out. The lunch selections were great and could hardly make up our minds. Also purchased from their meat case and cheese and took it home with us to Frankfort. It will definitely be on our list to stop on our next visit to Grand Rapids. If we lived there we would be there at least once a week!! Randy and Melissa Gilbert It was great to meet Matt and Cindy and even taste some wine in the process. :)

Yelp
This place is awesome. You can smell the meats as soon as you walk in the door. The cases are filled with artisan fresh, smoked and cured meats. It is a carnivores happy place. Matthew was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. We eat ketogenically. He was very helpful in showing us what products we could eat. The Berkshire pork is outstanding. The pastured lamb too. This is a must stop when you are in town. We live in Kalamazoo and are already planning a return trip.

Yelp
What a great find! I come to Grand Rapids once a year and was looking for some quality meats for our weekend at the lake house. This place is amazing. They only receive in whole animals and butcher them on site. Using all of the animal. Praise for the respect! Quality is second to none.

Yelp
This shop sold me some of the best beef I've ever had. Once my big green egg got through with it, it couldn't have been much better. The staff was helpful and answered all of my questions. Can't wait to go back and try more of their offerings!
