Louise's Fish & Chips

One of our favorite local spots to have an easy relaxed dinner. We like to order fish & chips and mushrooms. The onion rings and fried zucchini are delicious as well. I guess I can say over the years I’ve tried everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. Thank you Louise’s!

One of the best fish and chips places I have had for sure! I love the breading and i love the prawn. Comes with all dips you could really think of. Maybe a bit on the higher price side, with a 15% tip on a no2 combo with a drink i pay $25. Over all, give it a shot, pretty good.

We got fish & chips, mushrooms, oysters. They’re fresh and tasty. It’s a bit warm inside since the fryers are right next to the register.

Louise's is the epitome of comfort food; they're probably the only restaurant in this area that does truly glutinous, delicious deeply fried fish and chips - and I love it! It's so heavy, but so good at the same time. And it's not just fish - they apply the same fantastic fry to shrimp, oysters, calamari, mushrooms, etc. It's very similar to what you would get at an H. Salt Fish & Chips. Their pricing is competitive - for example, I easily feed a family of four on combo pack alone ($40 for 6 fish, 16 shrimp, and fries). I typically order over the phone for in-store pickup, and the turnaround time for this is quick - most of my orders seem to be ready within 15 minutes of placing. The restaurant itself is clean - the owner and his staff remain masked at all times, and work behind plastic barriers when prepping the food. The staff is also very pleasant and inviting.

Overall this place is pretty decent. The fish is pollock, and not cod, in case you are wondering. The lady is very nice and the store and more importantly the fryers are very clean. Fries were decent, fish was decent but super greasy, mozzarella sticks were delicious. Id say its more of a guilty pleasure meal. After eating all this grease we had to of course wash it down with an ice cold Coke.

I was looking in the area for good fish and chips and I stumbled into the best by far, so far! Friendly family owned and operated. More options than just "fish n chips"... prawns, clams, calamari, beer battered rings, zucchini, 'shrooms and more! Mix and match a classic combo number and add a side to make a 3way for under 20 bucks!

This little spot would probably be considered a hole in the wall, but it is absolutely a beloved part of Livermore culture and history. Opened for decades, Louise's offers the tri-valley hard to find quality fried fish options. Traditionally fried with a side of fries, the menu boasts filet, prawn, oyster, clams and more as well as delicious sides. The restaurant itself is modest with only four tables, as it is small inside, but that doesn't put a damper on the experience. If you have a hankering for Fish n chips, Louise's is the place to be.

Always good… never a bad meal and stays consistent… try to hit up this spot when I’m in the area… must try and highly recommended

Huge filets of perfectly golden battered fish. We got the 3 fish and chips for $15 and that was enough for 2 kids and a parent to share. Mom and pop restaurant, no frills, clean tables and very clean bathroom. They have lots of regular customers.

I love fish. When an Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips arrived in the town where we lived in the 1970s, I was excited. Even the pizza place where I worked eventually had hand-battered fish & chips. The quality was similar but the batter was quite different in the kind of spices used. I went into the shopping center looking for Grocery Outlet and Dollar Tree and found Louise's Fish & Chips and was interested. There were lots of options on the menu. I asked how big the pieces of fish were. What he told me was much smaller than what I got. The price was good, but I thought it was a bit much for the small pieces, especially since I was ordering three pieces of fish. He brought to the table three long pieces of fish and below them, there were something that weren't quite chips from England, but not quite fries, either. Everything was cooked well, but the taste of the batter was a bit bland. Nothing was greasy but the batter needed some cayenne pepper or black pepper or something. The fish seemed good quality and so were the chips. The malt vinegar that he brought was good and helped a bit. I'll return to try them again. The nautical theme of the restaurant was okay. The restroom was clean. The service was friendly and efficient.

We each had the Scott's #7 item (one piece of fried fish and fries). Cooked to order, obviously, so it took a few mins. Delicious! The battering on the fish was light and crispy, and wasn't greasy. The fries were the double-fried kind, so they were extra crunchy. The cole slaw we also got was very good. Cute place, but only 6 tables. Friendly service. A must-go to place!

Me and my coworkers were discussing fish and chips so we hopped on Yelp hoping to find a good promising place for delicious fish and chips. Louise's did not disappoint! Our office is located in Pleasanton although we did DoorDash it because they are in Livermore the food still arrived pretty fresh and pretty hot. I got the big combo, well because I'm a big guy, and it had a little bit of everything because I wanted to sample a little bit of everything they had to offer. I also ordered the mushrooms which were chefs kiss!

What an amazing little Fish and Chips place with a slight asian twist (I will come back to why I say that below). Family operated, no fuss, clean, completely affordable place. We got 3 piece fish and chips, two additional fried fish and fried zuchini. This was enough food for 2 adults and one child. They nicely separated portioned our order for three of us and provided extra chips so that it would be enough for all of us. Order comes with Ranch, tartar sauce and ketchup. Ranch and tartar sauce was fresh and provided in clean, squeezable bottles. Not stingy like most businesses where condiments are provided in tiny unreachable plastic cups. None of that here! You can squeeze on as much condiments as you want. Now lets talk about why I said "slight" Asian twist - the game is in the batter. Batter is well seasoned, light, airy, crispy. Much better than traditional californian dense fish and chips batter (Dont get me wrong, I love that too). But with this you really get to taste the fresh fish and not feel too heavy or greasy afterwards. The fish has these light flowery petals on the side which provides extra cruch in every bite. Ingenuity! This is a hybrid between british and asian fish and chips using best of both worlds. This fish wont get soggy, oily or dry out inside even if you take it home and reheat in air fryer or 400 F oven. Chips were well seasoned, not too salty, crispy, in sufficient portion, very very lightly battered. Fellow yelpers - I request you to go and support his local, family owned business...

I seen Louise's one day when I was at the auto parts store next door. I had it in my mind to go one day. Well, what really drove me was the reviews of others when I looked it up on Yelp. This place is a gem! If you enjoy fish n chips this place is what you've been looking for! The best I've had in years! The fish is fresh. The batter is delicious and crunchy at every bite. The service is excellent, friendly business owners. The establishment is extremely clean! We had to the fish n chip prawn combo, and we got chicken strips for one of the kids. Next time I come in I would like to try the coleslaw! Looks like it's made from fresh ingredients. Yum!

If you're looking to throw your carb cutting diet out the window for a meal might I suggest fish n chips. I can sum it up in one word, "Chrispy". Overall a pretty good meal served by really nice people. Would highly recommended stopping by if you're in the mode for some British fare.

I found this hole in the wall restaurant and loved it ever since. The restaurant is small but super clean. The workers here are nice and friendly. Their fish and chips are on point. Really tasty and not that greasy. It's very crispy. The prawns taste delicious and very crispy. I will definitely come back.

My wife thought I had a taste for fish and chips and we found one in Livermore called Louise's fish and chips. We were very pleased to find a fish and chips so close to our area near San Ramon we had the fish and chips basket. The owner's a Husband & Wife team served a scrumptious two orders for us. We plan to go back soon. We plan to try other items the next time around. The restaurant is very clean.

You don't need to drive to Half Moon Bay to get good fish and chips, they have it right here in Livermore. Fresh fish, great chips and friendly staff makes this place great. Highly recommend!

Tasty food . I had fish and Shrimp. It was fried well with appropriate sauces . This place is small so when you dine in it's congested .

Will definitely come back! Quick and fast good food!!! While shopping at the outlets wanted some good old school fish and chips (like H.Salt). This did not disappoint!!! Took my 80+ year old mom and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was very nice and quick. I think the people cooking must be the owners. This is in a neighborhood strip mall. No frills, clean and good. Thank you.

Was quite surprised at the ratings of Louise's being so high! I guess customers have not ever enjoyed fresh fish & chips . Obviously every pallet is different, but I/we (husband & myself) will not be a return customer ...again, to each their own. We ordered the fish & chips, and the prawns. Nice coating, but WAY TOO GREASY--why I wonder --our fish did not seem the freshest, and was dry & somewhat chewy at the small end We did like the fries-not abundant, but okay, The prawns were nice, but greasy. AND, really enjoyed one of the sauce bottles~ maybe ketchup w/horseradish(?). Unfortunately both hubby & I got heartburn from our meal here.. we 'don't' get heartburn!!! Thank goodness for ginger ! The two ppl manning the place were very curtious, but busy. Ambiance is simple, with possibly 8 tables, but nice & comfy, & neighborhood like atmosphere ( seems a bit much, Has 10 health department violations)

It's a great, local fish and chips place. It's all cooked right there for you. The fish was delicious. If I'm in the area again I will definitely be back.

3.5 stars rounded up. This place feels like a small mom and pop so I really wanted to like it. My husband did a pick up order so I didn't go inside or have any interaction with the restaurant itself. FOOD - we got the 3 fish and chips combo which comes with 3 large pieces of fried fish and fries. Definitely enough for 1 person and probably enough for 2 people that don't eat a lot or if you're sharing with a child. My only complaint is that the fish itself was kind of dry and hard. My son spit it out because of the texture. It wasn't soft/flaky but instead almost hard to chew. The crust/fry was really good though, super crispy/crunchy and didn't get soggy even with a 15 minute drive home. FRIES - the fries were also very crispy/crunchy and had a similar texture to the fish batter. Definitely good, a redeeming factor. Overall, I think if you get a good piece of fish or a piece that has fat/more tender it's a good bite. Otherwise, it's disappointing.

Haven't taken pictures because I simply eat it so fast on my lunch breaks. But this is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Livermore for a quick bite and awesome fried fish. The service is awesome, and kind it's a small ma and pop shop that deserves a 5star review for great quality, great service, and great pricing. Priced fairly, great portions, and hasn't disappointed me yet

Crisp, tasty, going back as often as my heart can take it! Walk in and greeted with a hello , service is always good! It's a fish snd chips spot. Few tables and places to sit. But nice ambience for what it is. Fried clams are great!!!

I love that "Louise" times his frying of food by your eta. Crunchy, yummy and no odd old oil flavors. I always pick up from here when craving. No where else!

Fish is on point and their kitchen seems as clean as a kitchen can be. If you're looking for fried fish / fish n chips in Livermore then this is the spot you must try.

I stopped by this wonderful restaurant on a whim and was so glad that I did. I had the fish and chips. It was fresh and crisp and delicious. Some of the best fish and chips I've had in years. You have to try this place and then tell your friends

I have lived in Livermore since 1981. I love fish and chips,but whenever I have a craving, I'm either disappointed by local restaurants or have to drive to Half Moon Bay or Bodega Bay to get good fish. After reading yelp reviews and putting aside my bias for their location. I decided to give it a try today. I am happy to say this was a 46 year mistake not to try these guys before now. I went in there not expecting much,but the small restaurant space was clean and the people there went out of their way to show me the process, the product and the end result of my order before I even paid. Another customer told me I wouldn't be sorry hearing that I had been considering Louise's fish and chips for a long time. I had fish and chips at Hop Da Vine earlier in the week and it didn't even compare. The fish was fresh battered before it went in to the fryer and tasted absolutely outstanding. These were some of the best fish and chips I have ever had and I've had a few. Funny thing is we don't even live on the coast. The people running the restaurant told me as I was leaving that they hoped they met my expectations and that I would be a return customer. I appreciate their thoughtfulness the outstanding food and I definitely will be a customer from now on.

Fish and chips and the fried shrimp are on point every time. Closest thing to British fish and chips. I found locally. Fish is always fresh. The breading doesn't give off that weird old oil taste and the service is prompt and food is always piping hot. I've been here about four times at my sisters suggestion who discovered this place for us. Haven't gone there in a while, but I just might go this weekend.

Went for lunch and ordered fish n chips and calamari and chips. Basic set up but great fish n chips! Stick to their core fish n chips.

I ordered a fish and prawn basket with a side of Cole slaw. The fish was amazing, so light and flaky and not oily at all. The cole slaw was also incredible, one of the best I've ever had. I would just say the tartar sauce could use some improvement, seemed more like a cup of Mayo with no other ingredients or flavors. Service was very friendly and fast.

I love fish and chips but there are few restaurants in the area. I happen to see Louise's Fish and Chips was located about 25 minutes away so I put it on my list of places to try if I happened to be in Livermore. I had to run an errand that put me 15 minutes closer so I took a slight detour to give them a try. It was a good decision. I tried a combo with 2 pieces of fish, 5 prawns and chips. I'm not to sure what type of fish they use but it was a white fluffy fish similar to cod which I like. It was nicely fried with a good crunch. It didn't have a lot of flavor but when you dipped it in their tarter sauce it was very good. I think the tarter sauce had a hint of garlic which was good too. The prawns were tender and fried nicely too. The fries were fried until they were crispy and a nice crunch. Forgot to mention, good service and the person working was very nice. Overall, solid fish, prawns, chips and tarter sauce.

Not greasy as some fish and chips places are. Very busy place with limited seating. I would recommend early arrival for lunch. Service is prompt. There is no wait service. Quint place even if is very small.

My husband and I found this place one day while we were shopping in the area. I have to honestly say this is probably my favorite fish and chips spot! The restaurant may be small but it always clean. The owners are so friendly. They have this cute little window where you pick up your order, and my daughter always laughs seeing the food magically appear. The food speaks for itself. The fish is always cooked to golden perfection (flakey, moist, and not greasy) and the fries have this nice crust. Their portions and prices are fair. I have not left this place hungry, and that's sharing for 2 adults and a toddler. My husband loves that they have all the fixings to flavor how you like. I will say they get busy at lunch/dinner, so finding a table can be kinda tricky. Overall, I love stopping by when I'm in the area.

This was the best meal so far on our road trip. Best clams, fish and chips ever. Highly recommend!

Hubby and I stopped by here before leaving town. I got a #4 which consists of two pieces of fish with chips and my guy got a #1 which included one fish, 5 prawns along with chips. The fish was tender and flaky, just how I feel it should be. According to my S.O. the prawns were also cooked perfectly and had a good texture. I concur after having one that he gave me. He also enjoyed the chips. I am trying to cut back on carbs so I told him next time I might get just some fish or the fish and prawns only. We totally recommend this place.

I just love their fried fish, clams & scallops soooo much! They are always done to perfection! Customer from England at next table said "This is as close to fish & chips back home that there is here!" It's been in business in town for a long time. With ownership change over many years ago, the food stayed consistently excellent!

Everything pretty good here. Thin yet crispy coat. Nothing taste oily. Shrimp is the star protein in my opinion. Really good spot

This place was a great find! The fish and fries were fried perfectly crisp and there is actually flavor! Some places just fry their fish as if that gives it flavor so you are left with bland breaded fish. That is not true at all for this place. You will love it with or without any sauces. It was also made pretty quickly - like 10-15 minutes. The next time we are in town, we will definitely visit.

From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall. But once you get inside you feel at home because Brian, the owner is very nice. My wife and I ordered the onion rings the combo platter and the two fish, five prawns and chips everything was cooked to perfection, the fish had a nice texture, but my favorite was the prawns. We even got to speaking with Brian because we were the only ones in the restaurant eating. He told us all the sauces are made in-house. That's why they were all so delicious. If there was one negative thing to say, was the onion rings could've been better too much batter. I'll be back.

Joni Mitchell was right - "Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." In this case, "it's" not gone, but I am. We moved from Livermore 14 years ago and have never found a fish and chip shop 1/2 as good as Louise's. We come back a few times a year and always stop in for fish and chips. The fish is always fresh, perfectly done, and tasty. The fries are just as good. Prices are decent, and the service is excellent.

This place is so consistent. I've been here multiple times whenever I crave fish n chips. They never fail. The crispiness of the their food is perfect. Not overly hard crunchy but crispy fish. Shrimp is tasty and doesn't have any "fishy" taste. You know how it can still have the scent or taste of the sea/ocean? Yeah. They do have that with their shrimp. The chips (fries) I love em. I could definitely eat a whole basket and not share one. But the portions are shareable so share!!!

Ready when said it would be. Fish was crispy and flavorful and fluffy inside. Fries were cooked well done and salted perfectly. No complaints at all. Three piece fish fed 3 people easy with fries left over for a fourth person. Can't go wrong ordering here. You might have trouble getting a seat inside though. Full house on a later Sunday afternoon.

The fish and chips were great. The service was also good, but ordered to take out. This business has been in Livermore for many years but not the same ownership. The place is clean and tables available if you want to eat in.

I've lived in this area for probably 20 years before I have this place a try. Sheshh, I don't know why I took so long to try it..ok it may be because the parking lots always looks busy (there is a gym nearby and most people are going there, trying to get an up close spot to park so they don't have to do any walking before walking on a treadmill.). The fish is delicious, I thought only Seattle could do fish and chips, but this little place here in Livermore can. They are always generous with portions and condiments. The prices are still reasonable. Where can two people have meal for 20 dollars and be full! I get the Scott's, it's a huge piece of fish and French fries. Plenty for one person.

This place was clean and the people very friendly. A little pricey as compared to the servings. As for the food, I would recommend getting the oysters with chips. I personally like their fries. It a battered fries and the oysters were big and juicy. The next best thing was the fish n chips. We ordered the family size with 10 pieces of fish and chips. There is a tempura batter and the fish are somewhat a good portion. I liked it but I didn't think it was fresh. The fish was spongy and felt like it was frozen not fresh. My family still liked it. We've been searching for fish and chips here in the Bay and the valley. Hoping to find something good. So far, this was the only place close to tasting our favorite fish b chips in Long Beach Ca.
