The Best Restaurants Along Selby Avenue in St. Paul’s Cathedral Hill | Eater Twin Cities

"Open for dine-in, takeout, curbside, and delivery, this cozy diner-style spot offers a hearty breakfast and lunch, along with a classic selection of shakes and malts that delight kids and adults alike. The family-friendly cafe is known for its wide menu of Benedicts, and it’s just good manners to order a pancake for the table, too, Zydeco-style (topped with blueberries, fresh bananas, pecans, powdered sugar, and syrup)." - Julie Yu

One of my favorite breakfast/brunch places in St. Paul! The Carnitas Benedict is my go to. Their waffles and pancakes are amazing too if you're looking for something sweeter. Always my go to recommendation for people looking for a great meal with sizable portions! Everyone I have suggested come here or brought here myself have absolutely loved their food!

Google
I loved ❤️ my first visit to this place. Honestly I googled Black owned restaurants near me because I am Pro Black and I'd like to support my community and I'm noticing that when you get to a place it's not Black owned so the listing is misleading but I don't mind supporting diverse groups. What I did like about this place is that it's big and has plenty of seating, it was clean! the coffee is rich and smooth the food was great very big portions 😍! But....can get pricey for one person. My bill came up to $38.07 plus the tip $5.07

When I lived in the Twin Cities many years ago, The Louisiana Cafe was my go to breakfast spot. On a return visit to the Twin Cities, I decided to revisit some of my old haunts and I am happy to report that the Louisiana Cafe is exactly as I remember: the Tex Mex is still delicious and too large for one human to safely eat by themselves; the caramel rolls still melt in your mouth and create pure joy; and the cafe is still a great place to chat with old friends while drinking a never ending cup of coffee.

This is undoubtedly one of my favorite spots to indulge in a fantastic meal. From the moment you step through the door, the warm and inviting ambiance sets the tone for a delightful dining experience. They serve an incredible Cajun breakfast that never fails to impress. On this trip, we couldn't resist the Cajun breakfast again, and it was just as exceptional as I remembered. The dishes are bursting with flavor, expertly seasoned to capture that authentic Cajun seasoning. In addition to the breakfast, we treated ourselves to the crab cake Benedict, which was a revelation. The crab cakes were perfectly cooked nice and tender on the inside while boasting a beautiful, crispy crust on the outside. Each bite was a delicious balance of rich flavors and textures that left us craving more. One of the standout features of this place is the generous portion sizes. You definitely get your money’s worth. I always leave feeling full and satisfied, which is a testament to their commitment to quality and quantity. Our server, Bryan, truly elevated our experience. He was not only fantastic in his service but also impressively knowledgeable about the entire menu. He made thoughtful recommendations that enhanced our meal, and he was attentive in making sure our coffee cups were always full, even during the height of the breakfast rush. It’s a rare treat to find such attentive service in a bustling setting. Additionally, the location is a definite plus, complete with a spacious parking lot that ensures a hassle-free arrival. There’s also ample street parking available, making it convenient for anyone looking to visit. Overall, this spot has a perfect blend of delicious food, fantastic service, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a must-visit destination for anyone craving a hearty and flavorful meal!

Google
The Louisiana Café is a fantastic spot for a hearty Southern-style breakfast. The food is absolutely delicious and worth the visit! I ordered a dish with crispy hash browns, a perfectly cooked patty, and eggs smothered in a rich, velvety hollandaise sauce with a dash of paprika. Everything was well-seasoned, cooked to perfection, and full of flavor. The cornbread muffin on the side was a nice touch, and the coffee was strong and fresh. The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is the wait time. It took a bit longer than expected to get our food, which was a little frustrating, especially when you’re hungry and excited for a great meal. That said, the quality of the food definitely made up for it. If you have the patience for a slightly longer wait, this place is absolutely worth it. I’d definitely come back for another round of their amazing breakfast!

Delicious breakfast! Good service! Reasonable prices! We sat outside which was lovely. The catfish and cinnamon roll were our favorites. Everything was good.

WOW Such a great find. We were on a girls' trip and we were looking for some place that was not a chain and we found this gem. You get that neighborhood vibe with tree-lined streets with shops lining the block with apartments upstairs. People are walking their dogs and stopping at the coffee shop. Enough about that, the food is amazing so much so we came back a second morning. The French toast is heavenly, fluffy, and just a hint of cinnamon to make it perfect. Make sure to ask for the pure maple syrup. 🍁 I tried the sausage links they had an amazing taste not overly spicy which is perfect. The service was great! Very attentive to your needs. I am a tea-aholic and my glass was kept full. I suggest you try the Louisiana Cafe if you are looking for a local place. They even have a patio for those who love to sit outside. They have their own parking lot... don't let the signs fool you, they almost did us.

Google
Had the apple crisp waffles and the Florentine eggs Benedict - absolutely phenomenal. Service was great, music was great, everything was great. Haven’t been to another breakfast spot since. Didn’t get a pic before I ate the whole thing.

Yelp
I must say I was hyped at first because I saw the words Louisiana Cafe. Being a Louisiana girl, I was sure the menu would be curated with things from Louisiana. As we approached the building, everyone was telling us of things we should try in the menu. Family oriented atmosphere with cute customer service is what I experienced. Thank you to our waitress she was awesome. However, I was disappointed. When you think of Louisiana, you think of fried catfish more than anything'. You maybe have blackened or baked but fried is the heart. This place had none. The food was okay. I was not wow'd but it was okay.

Yelp
Cute place in St Paul for brunch. Plenty of tables and there's a cute little eating bar with retro style bar stools. Service was awesome- our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Food was good- I had the chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes (I was craving the sweets clearly) which were delish. The portion sizes are big too which is a major plus! If you're looking for a casual brunch spot with a wide variety of great options- this is a great spot!

Yelp
I was so impressed with this restaurant because I didn't know what to expect. I'm used to going to up-to-date, renovated and modern establishments but this place was reminiscent of an old diner. It even had red plastic foggy cups that reminded me of the old Pizza Hut plastic cups. Service was slow and food took some time to arrive, but we had a large party. Once it arrived, it was worth it. The portions were MASSIVE! You can easily share an entree with someone. I wish I did that, though it was nice having food for the next day. I ordered the Cajun Breakfast. It was really tasty! I really love hollandaise so that was a nice addition. The vegetables were cooked well too, and I loved the hash browns. Got the French toast for my toddler and it came plain..I was expecting Zyrdeki's French toast instead but felt it was too late to change the order and my toddler was hungry. Will have to try it next time.

Yelp
Giant portions, lots of seating, easy parking in back lot, friendly staff, attentive servers and usually limited waiting times if any. Louisiana Cafe is a staple for the men in my life as you won't be shorted any food. It's also really heavy such as meat, potatoes, bread, etc. I enjoy a lighter breakfast so I only come here once a year when I crave heavy. My most recent visit didn't disappoint with the egg sandwich. There are even a few tables and booths with outlets if you need to work on a computer. Food specials are listed on the chalk board as you enter and during nicer weather months there is a side patio to dine outside. Enjoy!

Yelp
First time bringing Big Dave here... he wants to come back soon and try more! Loved the omelet and I've had the Santa Fe now the 3 time a I've visited. Not a New Orleans food place rather a great breakfast place ... especially for hungry men! Only wish we had found this place when the boys were still teens! We have been siting outside on the shaded patio. Lovely with the breeze. The service was great but should be tipped extra because of the hassle. Worth it though!!!

Yelp
Stopped into this place while waiting for my son who was running in the TCM. Really cute, clean, updated restaurant cafe. For having the name Louisiana Cafe I was expecting a lot of NoLa inspired dishes and there were some, but mostly your standard breakfast fare. I had to have the Cajun Benedict and it was OUTSTANDING. Accompanying hash browns were also really good - very thinly grated potatoes, which I really liked. Highly recommended. Staff was very friendly. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'd definitely stop in.

Yelp
The flavors of the food were uneven today. We ordered hot chili, which was overly spicy and not made well for an enjoyable experience. It also included a sweet cornbread. In contrast, the chicken salad was excellent and tasted fantastic. The service was good, and the decor was classically appealing.

Yelp
First off, I appreciated the fact that they let me make a reservation. That part was good. After being seated, the service really started lacking. It took a long time to get greeted by the server. She got our drinks and order taken in a timely manner. She was good with refilling our coffee while we waited a long time for our food. Our food finally came out and the reviews are as such: #2 - this was fine according to my pregnant niece. She ate all of it. Avocado Toast: eggs over easy: toast was really mushy, the avocado spread was brown and watery. His eggs were prepared as requested. He ate all of it. Biscuits and gravy with eggs over medium and a side of bacon: First, the gravy had a thick skin on it, like it had sat for awhile under the heat lamp, that was proven correct when I went for the over medium eggs on top and they were so over done that they were inedible, they were so hard. The gravy was hot (heat lamp hot) but everything else was lukewarm warm. The bacon was so dark and black, it was dry but yet greasy. It was not good. I ate 1/4 of all my food. Corned Beef "Hash", eggs over easy - again, heat lamp hot, and not really what was expected, instead this was literally large slices of corned beef laid on top of hashbrowns with some hard cheese on top. My mom was pretty put off by it and only ate her eggs, which were over-medium (ordered over easy). She also ate her cold toast. She ate 1/4 of her meal. Cajun breakfast, eggs over medium: heat lamp warm, kind of a sloppy mess, to be honest. The hollandaise sauce was congealed and the cheese hard. And his over medium eggs were prepared sunny side up, so runny he ate almost nothing. The waitress checked back but no one wanted to complain because there was no way we were going to wait for food again, it took forever the first time. Next time she came back she asked if anyone wanted boxes and no one did. Which should have tipped her off to at least asking about the full plates. Instead she ignored the obvious and brought the check. We paid over $100, tipped her 20% and left. The ambiance was as expected for a breakfast diner. Unfortunately none of us plan to come back, maybe my niece...

Lenea N.

Yelp
I almost want to give them 2 stars because the service was fantastic! However, food was bad. I'm not sure how you mess up hash-browns but somehow they were inedible. I had the California Benedict. It was DRENCHED in hollandaise. All I could taste was the sauce. Way overpriced for the quality of food. I won't be back and I don't recommend this place to anyone who goes out to eat for high quality food.

Yelp
Not sure exactly what's "Louisiana" here; there's a catfish thing on the menu, but this is just a breakfast/lunch pseudo diner. Food was meh at best. Eggs Benedict, eggs not fully poached, still some clear slimy albumin present. Cubano, wrong bread, wrong pork, wrong mustard, wrong cheese, not even pressed. Cornbread muffin undercooked, no browning, floury with hard uncooked bits of corn meal. Service was shocking. Ordered a side salad with Italian, came with no dressing, asked for Italian and only then was told they don't have any. Blue cheese came in a plastic container proudly dated a month ago. Nobody checked on us for drink refills or anything. Sat not eating for over 20 minutes before getting a different server to send our server over for to go containers and the check. There were times when two front of house people were present, both cleaning the same table, no attention to the customers. Restaurant was only half full at the time (yet still somehow loud and annoying), but they were struggling... or not struggling enough... to keep up. This was a random pick because we were in the area with no research beforehand. Lesson learned.

Yelp
All the Benedict's~~ so good ~~ especially the Crab Cake Benedict! Crispy toasted English muffin under, golden crab cakes and tasty hollandaise. Attentive service. A new "go to" spot for us.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday for brunch. There was no wait to be seated. Our server was nice but when asked about some menu items it seemed like not very knowledgeable about it and didn't check in often enough as I would have liked. There was a tad wait for the food but not too bad. The size of the food compensated the wait. Reasonable prices. Might go back if in the area.

Yelp
The upside down pineapple pancake was delicious but I could do without having my credit card information stolen and the fraudulent charge. First time using that card and the very next day...

Yelp
Life changing eggs benny !! Amazing coffee !!! Gorgeous view of Selby. Not terribly packed on a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot in St. Paul! This was our first time here and won't be our last! The restaurant is easy to find, has ample off street parking and is super clean and has wonderful ambiance. The menu is so good it was hard to decide what to order. The service was fantastic and we got our meals pretty fast. Very generous portions and the food is delicious! You have to try the cookie dough pancake, I didn't end up getting a picture of it but it was amazing! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Yelp
Good old school breakfast. Diner vibe. Prices are reasonable and the service is pretty good generally speaking. Go here if you want an old-fashioned breakfast or brunch; their lunch menu is ok as well.

Frankie G.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday with my grandchidren! I got the classic french toast. One of my grandchild got the pineapple pancakes. It is safe to say that their food is wonderful! It felt like I was in bliss city. If you come here, definently get the sweet potato tater tots. They remind me of an old diner I used to go to when I was a young girl. The only complaints I have are that it feels like the staff are rushing you out to get others seated. There was no loud music which was nice.

Yelp
Is there anything more comforting than breakfast food smothered in gravy? As I'm quarantined, I can easily say the answer is no! Speaking of gravy, the kind Louisiana Cafe smothers over your biscuits or over the chicken fried steak is divine! So meaty and tasty, the perfect comfort food accoutrement. This sausage gravy is definitely the star of the show, better than other brunch spots I've found anyways. I ordered and shared the chicken fried steak, biscuits with gravy, and the caramel apple crisp waffle (homemade malted waffle, topped with cooked cinnamon apple chunks, drizzled with caramel, adorned with whipped cream and sprinkled with housemade granola and cinnamon sugar). Everything was fantastic including the eggs and hash browns that came with the first two meals. The waffle was a wonderful balance with sweet and savory, it tasted like an apple crumble! I've preciously been here and can't remember what I ordered (wasn't that great), but this visit has turned that around. Definitely coming back for breakfast at Louisiana Cafe!

Yelp
So many things on the menu. I selected the Cajun breakfast because I assumed that would be their specialty coming from the name. Very generous amount of hollandaise sauce + runny egg yolk on a bed of onions, mushrooms, peppers, and hash browns with your choice of sourdough, russian rye, or wheat bread. I opted for the rye. I love the cajun spice they sprinkled on the sauce. That's what made the dish for me. Overall it was a very hearty dish. Bread was nice to absorb all the sauce and egg. I also had some freshly squeezed grapefruit juice which tasted like so. However, for the price, I probably would just get a coffee or something. Service was nice and we had no problems!
google avatar

Smart T.

Yelp
The worst imitation of a Louisiana cafe, smh. To be honest my wife is New Orleans, so I know what right looks and tastes like. But for an establishment to use a Cajun seasoning, fake andouille sausage and imitation crab meat in their crab cake is a path way to disaster. On a brighter note, the corn bread was one of the best we ever had. It had the taste and feel of corn bread made with corn meal and not a box mix.

Yelp
I love going for breakfast. There's enough food for a single huge hot meal that I can definitely consume in one sitting but I've cut the meal in half to save for the next day. I usually get the same server since I usually visit at the same time in the morning. I don't know her name yet but she is on top of everything needed. The restaurant is clean and has both booths and tables. Opens most days at 0700 except for Sundays when they open at 0800.

Alayleana ..

Yelp
This was supposed to be a side of hash browns and cheesy eggs with my waffle apple crisp. at time of service with two different host i was being rushed by them while speaking , i ordered my waffles and asked i get the eggs and hash browns on the side with a meal from the menu, i assumed she understood bc she asked me if that was all. when i eventually got my meal, i asked for a refill, that was another cup of over priced (small cup), of juice and some napkins, never got my napkins, n still no side dish for my already eaten meal. we asked for the check, n i checked on the rest of my food with the lady n i explained while she continued to rush and interrupt me, while i was upset, then left and came back with that. highly disappointed.

Dania B.

Yelp
The service is FAST. The portions are great. I always like getting the #2 with pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. If I'm feeling extra, I'll get the california benedict instead. It also has a retro american breakfast vibe so my boyfriend and I like going on dates here

Cameron L.

Yelp
I've lived only a couple blocks from this restaurant since it opened, and I used to go quite often, mainly for breakfast. But... every other breakfast joint in St Paul makes better hash browns than them, so I tend to go to other places. I went again the other day, just because I hadn't been there in a while. Once in a blue moon, I enjoy a good caramel roll, so I ordered one, in addition to my regular breakfast order. It was dry as dust. I'm not sure if they've always been that way, and I just had nostalgic memories, or if they've gone downhill. I finished the caramel bits and left 90% of the rest for plywood filler. My main breakfast was very good, minus the hash browns (I had one of their eggs Benedicts - I do really like their Hollandaise sauce). Now, don't get me wrong, the hash browns aren't terrible or inedible, they're simply not as good as ANYWHERE else. Capitol View: better, Hope, better, Uptowner, much better, Keys, much better. You see where I'm coming from. Then I get to the major reason I won't go back for a while: my earnest and fairly helpful waiter. Sounds good so far, right? Yes, and if it ended there, I might go back and order things that don't have "hash browns" or "caramel roll" in the name. But, my goodness, I don't know what cologne he cavorted and splashed around in that morning, but when he was around, I couldn't eat, because my nostrils were assaulted by his aroma. My eyes watered. Like the white-collar workplace, restaurant workers should severely limit or eliminate perfumes and colognes. Period. I'll try it again next year.

Sandy A.

Yelp
Service was great, food was marginal! It's a cafe for sure, not much ambiance, the quantity of food seems to be the focus here!
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
I love Louisiana food and I needed a kid friendly place, so I was very happy to find this restaurant. (Also nice to find places that have parking lots.) It's a very large space, so we didn't have to wait for a table even for Saturday brunch. I'm normally a savory over sweet brunch kind of girl, but we were all intrigued by the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pancakes, so we got 1 for the 4 of us to split and try - cool that there was a single pancake option available. While it was tasty and a fun idea, I felt like it needed more cookie dough chunks. I ended up ordering the House Specialty Cajun Breakfast - crispy hash browns grilled with green peppers, onions, fresh mushrooms, topped with cheddar cheese and over-easy eggs, smothered with hollandaise sauce, sprinkled with Cajun spices. It was a good price, but the focus here seems to be quantity over quality/flavor. I could hardly taste Cajun spices at all and had to add a bunch of hot sauce to make it spicy and interesting. I can be overly critical when it comes to breakfast at restaurants, but it didn't really live up to my expectations - just your average diner food.

Claudia G.

Yelp
The food was okay - the omelette was dry and the hash browns somewhat crisp on the outside but mushy on the inside. There are lots of people working there but the actual number of servers seemed far too few. We waited 10 minutes for anyone to bring water or drinks (our server, finally) with 5-6 people that I could personally see just standing around and not helping the servers. Not enough check-ins from staff on drink refills etc. Again what are the non servers doing? Not impressed with the food nor service. Doesn't seem like the employees care about the customer experience- food or service. Will not be back.

Yelp
Delicious brunch!!! On my first visit I had their Blackened Catfish, scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, and wheat toast since I dined here during lent. It was so delicious and pretty large. The place was super crowded and very family friendly. It was a great wholesome choice for brunch. On my second visit I had their Cajun breakfast with scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, and whole wheat toast. I really wanted to try their Hash Brown special but luckily I asked whether the meat was sliced like deli meat or like ground beef and found out it was sliced like deli meat which is not my preference. My Cajun breakfast was huge! I swear I could have shared it with two other people at least. There were a lot of hash browns and less cheese than I had liked but the flavor was so good. I think they should cut down on the oil but other than that my savory craving was satisfied. My server was a darling, her name was Dioscelin and she was very friendly, attentive, and personable.

Beth R.

Yelp
While the breakfast here has been consistently good, the last few times I've been here the food has come out really quickly. That might seem like a good thing, but both times I ordered lunch items and have had very undercooked chicken. There's a fine line between quick and sloppy, and I would say the food has been sloppy.
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
So good!! The portions are huge so I have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow! There is a parking lot too which is really convenient as the street is on is usually very crowded. I got the corned beef hash and it did not disappoint. Really quick service with the food too
google avatar

Markus G.

Yelp
I came back to give it another try especially since my girlfriend seems to love this place. We came in placed our drink order and then our food order. I ordered the blackened catfish with wheat toast and eggs over medium. And my girlfriend ordered the Cajun breakfast. When our food arrive the eggs weren't over medium they were pretty runny but it was okay. And my catfish came out with sour dough and I asked for wheat. Our server Sara quickly changed the toast for me and all was good. My girlfriend loved her food and mines was delicious as well. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the mistakes on my food. I'll be back to see if we can give 5 stars next time.

S. L. J.

Yelp
First time ever giving a poor review. From start to finish, a disappointment. Came in at 9, seated, then waited 20 minutes for someone to approach our table. Bus person, upon request, brought waters and menus, we then waited another 15 minutes until server arrived to take our order. I would have understood if the restaurant was busy. It was not. Our server stood behind counter chatting with co-worker. No offer to refill coffee, food delivered with no silverware, no interaction whatsoever with the server at any point during our meal. Not once. This is poor training and supervision. The meal was fine. The service; completely unacceptable.
google avatar

Cliff B.

Yelp
Classic St Paul diner menu with a few nice additions. It gets pretty busy on a Sunday morning so you might have to wait a bit but it won't be long. Their staff turns over tables really efficiently. Recommend the Cajun breakfast.

Lee G.

Yelp
Make sure you arrive hungry! Portions are huge and delicious. I recommend the pineapple pancakes. Yum.
google avatar

Ashley Q.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful breakfast this morning! The crab cake Benedict and the Cajun breakfast were absolutely delicious! Our server, Zoey, was so sweet and efficient! Our drinks were never empty and when we asked for something else we got it right away. Anyone who wants a delicious breakfast should absolutely stop by here!
google avatar

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Tasty and large portion size. Breakfast was the bees knees! Love me some eggs Benedict and the breakfast burrito was massive! Friendly and busy environment. Will visit again!

Yelp
This was probably the best breakfast I had in a really long time. My boyfriend and I came to this spot during a visit to MN for a wedding and it did not disappoint. I ordered the pineapple upside down pancake and it was so good! Extremely different but it was sweet. It has pineapple inside with vanilla creme and cinnamon on top. My boyfriend ordered the chocolate chip cookie dough pancake which was also really good and sweet. I also ordered their #3 which includes: eggs, toast, smokehouse bacon, and hash browns. I didn't care for the hash browns but everything else is excellent. He ordered the biscuits and gravy and loved it. This spot gets busy, so we waited 10-15 minutes but its absolutely worth it! The service is excellent and the food is prepared quickly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Lovely and spacious cafe, friendly staff, the pace is easy going, and the food is delicious. I had the bruschetta avocado toast with peppermint tea and it was light and refreshing.

Yelp
My husband and I tried this place for breakfast and really liked it. It's a fairly large place. We arrived at about 8:30 on a Saturday and had no problem grabbing a table, but by the time we left, the place was packed! I like the variety of menu items. There's only so much you can do for breakfast, but they've found a few ways to jazz things up. Several versions of eggs Benedict and French toast for example. I had the California Benedict with Turkey and avocado. It also comes with a side of hashbrowns. It was a lot bigger than I expected and I couldn't finish! Really good though. My husband has the Farmer's Breakfast. He said it was good but kind of lacked taste. I would love to try the Zydeco French toast next time - it sounds good, with blueberries, bananas, and pecans. If you're looking for a morning sugar blast, the apple crisp French toast sounded interesting but deadly - apples, caramel, whipped cream, granola and cinnamon sugar. They only serve breakfast and lunch, and you can order off of either menu all day. Service was great! Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. We'll be back to try some other menu items.
google avatar

Brad O.

Yelp
Big portions for a small price! This is the cajun sister to Uptown Diner in Minneapolis, so expect a similar menu. Came here for brunch on Sunday morning. The noise of the place is a little off-putting and the waiter seemed overwhelmed, but overall the food arrived quickly and it tasted good, which is about as much as you can ask for from a restaurant. Wouldn't mind stopping by again, but hopefully at a quieter time.

La Donna C.

Yelp
Great service. We will be returning, soon. No waiting, food portions are worth the money.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place. The menu was unique, the place seemed trendy but the service and food sucked! First of all, the restaurant was looking to be like a great neighborhood get-together. Large bright windows display the other hip restaurants like Mango Thai around it. I knew that the neighborhood takes their food eateries seriously and the great reviews for this place seemed very promising. Not what we experienced! First of all, our waitress was not very good. She was scattered brained and that is being polite. She never filled our waters and when we asked for syrup, she literally forgot a minute later. I had to go up to the kitchen and ask for some. Oh and she was totally chatty with the table next to us because she knew them from school. You know that terrible teen waitress type? Yeah, that was her. Also, if you want to find a waitress, they all huddle up front by the counter to chat away their day, instead of doing their job and making sure people are happy. And then the food. How do you mess up pancakes??? My wife got the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pancakes and I got the classic ones. Ugh, I don't think I have had worse pancakes. They were unbelievable dry, no taste, and it was like trying to swallow sandpaper. Simply awful, and that is how I felt hours after. Maybe we shouldn't have gotten the pancakes, but really, if are a breakfast joint you better know how to do pancakes. The only good thing on my plate was the bacon, but that wasn't worth the $10 I had to drop for my plate of disappointment. Whoever wrote in their reviews that their food is awesome and you get big portions obviously hasn't been to places like the Coffee Cup in Saint Paul. Prices were bloated for what you got and their quality was basically like a Perkins (oh but its locally sourced, who cares if it tastes like crap)....but I would rather eat at Perkins. There are far too many better options out there for me to ever want to go back here.

Yelp
Excellent! We really enjoyed our first visit here for breakfast! I had the Cajun breakfast and he had the country fried steak and wow it was fantastic! A ton of flavor and huge portions. We should've shared. Our service was very good as well. We will be back!

Yelp
I'm still on the fence about coming here again. It seems as though my meal, the #3 is always a hit-or-miss depending on who's in the kitchen. That really sucks! My eggs were over cooked. The hash browns were greasy, and the toast dry. I'm definitely gonna take a break from this establishment and go to other local joints for better meals. I'm soooooo OVER paying for bad food.

Yelp
Carnitas Benedict! One of my new favorites. Food and places. Amazing what I find in my own neighborhood. Got there early which was good. Last time we went, it was packed and we wound up at Hazel's which was equally as good. Seated ourselves at a table by the window. I waivered back and forth between all the benedicts and finally decided on the Carnitas Benedict which was confirmed that it must be good by our server saying, "good choice". Always a good sign. The carnitas benedict was SO good. Poached eggs were perfect, served atop biscuits and the tenderest of pork drizzled with my weakness of hollendaise sauce. Loved it. They came with a big slab of hashbrowns that seemed like angel hair hashbrowns. We both liked the thinness of them. And the orange slice. I haven't had an orange slice in awhile. J ordered the cajun egg something or other that also came with hollendaise. He liked it, but took most of it home for not being that hungry. Service was excellent. Very nice neighborhood restaurant that we will defintely be back to! .

Yelp
Always a winner for breakfast. My family loves it. Some love spicy food and are very happy. Hubby loves their eggs Benedict. Their lunches are great too. Last week I was there and wanted waffles. I asked if they had any fresh fruit. They did! I asked for blueberries and strawberries and whipped cream on my waffle. It was amazing! Staff there is always lovely. They also have the best bacon.

Yelp
Today was a miss. I tried the blackened catfish. I took one bite and realized it wasn't cooked thoroughly. But the waitress never came back to check on us until waaayy later and I didn't want to create a scene/cause a fuss as I was with friends. When all was said and i done i walked out spending $30 for eggs, hash browns, GF toast and coffee. Not worth it. Probably won't be returning.
