I personally haven't been to this location, but my mom was ever so gracious enough to get us some seafood gumbo, while she was picking up dinner for my papa. I've been to their location on Gratiot back in the day when I still ate meat, but I haven't been in years for obvious reasons.
My papa got the og gumbo with smoked sausage and shredded chicken, which looked amazing and smelled even better, while I on the other hand was a bit reluctant to try my seafood style gumbo. Now, I really like seafood, I just have a really tough time eating it, when I don't think it belongs in certain dishes like pizza or tacos (shrimp tacos are the ONLY exception) and that goes for gumbo as well. I always liked classic gumbo with sausage and chicken, and now that I'm veggie, I've tried straight up veggie/vegan gumbos, gumbos with veggie meat, but this was a first for me but I'm glad it happened. It's made with a seafood stock and was kinda on the thicker side, that reminded me of chowder, but tasted so heavenly. There was shrimp and mussels, then all the regular gumbo ingredients like okra, celery and chunks of tomato. There was a really good ratio of all the ingredients, that surprisingly tasted extremely well when mixed together. All the gumbos included rice and came with cornbread on the side. And my mom forgot, but don't YOU forget your side of mac and cheese too... Soooooo worth it!
