The 38 Best Restaurants in Detroit, Spring 2025 | Eater Detroit

"Spiced gumbo loaded with seafood is the main event at this decades-old carryout restaurant and micro-chain that originated near Eastern Market. At this Detroit institution, the gumbo is packed with shrimp, sausage, cut okra, and a proprietary blend of seasonings and shares space on the menu with other Bayou favorites like red beans and rice, jambalaya, and shrimp po’boys made with a crackly baguette. The original Eastern Market area spot shuttered in late 2023 as ownership made way for a new spruced-up and larger location too not far away, at 2830 Gratiot Avenue. Online ordering is available. Best for: Quick service and hearty portions, particularly comforting during a chilly day in Detroit." - Serena Maria Daniels

The Best Restaurants and Bars in Detroit’s Eastern Market | Eater Detroit

"Gumbo is the main event at this Eastern Market adjacent restaurant served with lots of shrimp, sausage, and vegetables. The eponymous dish is offered alongside items like red beans and rice, macaroni and cheese, and shrimp po’boys. The tiny shop relocated up the street from its original flagship spot into a 100-year-old building that has been renovated so that customers can have more of a sit-down dining experience." - Serena Maria Daniels

I have been coming here for years. Grew up with this place (I’m 40 now :-) ) They served up some of the best comfort food I’ve had in a long time. The fried catfish was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside—seasoned just right with that Southern kick. The shrimp were juicy and full of flavor, and paired beautifully with the red beans and rice, which were rich, smoky, and cooked low and slow like they’re supposed to be. Every bite tasted like home-cooked goodness, with layers of flavor that only real Creole cooking can bring. The portions were generous, the vibes were warm and welcoming, and the hospitality made the experience even better.

Some of the best Creole Jambalaya that I have ever had. Some delicious cornbread came with it too. A great portion where I had half tonight when I got home and the other half tomorrow

The red beans & rice was delicious. The mac and cheese was okay. Needed more cheese for me. The seafood creole didn't do it for me. They were out of the gumbo, so I will be back to try that.

This was my first and last time visiting this restaurant. I've lived in the south for well over 16 years, I'm west Indian and I've also enjoyed authentic Louisiana cooking. I can throw down in the kitchen and I've enjoyed great southern food as well. Let's just say this however was not that. Talk about a disappointment. With a name like "Louisiana Creole Gumbo" me and my stomach were expecting delicious authentic food. I entered the restaurant and was about to order from the self service kiosk but after a few minutes I was greeted and a lady at the counter took my order. The customer service was fine I'd say, as the menu options were explained and the food came fast. However the lack of flavor was the issue. To begin the collard greens had absolutely no seasoning, not one smoked neck bone or meat morsel. Not one pepper flake or dust in sight. The macaroni and cheese was mushy, oily and lacked flavor. To add insult to injury was the gumbo supreme. It tasted like someone tried to doctor up some Campbell's tomato soup, by adding celery, rice etc. I said to myself Lord , not even authentic andoullie sausage? The sausage they used no lie was similar to Vienna sausages. Shrimp was overcooked and the whole combo just lacked that true flavor. While initially it looked promising, the corn bread was bland and solid as a rock smh. I literally broke it in half took a bite and had to just spit it out. This whole experience was especially disappointing as I make it a point to support black businesses however the quality just wasn't there. Whoever is in that kitchen needs to take some cooking lessons because they are putting the namesake of the restaurant to shame. I ended up just trashing the majority of the food, talk about a waste.

I cannot recall the last time I left a bad review for anywhere. That’s how terrible my order was today my toddler doesn’t even want it.. I usually go to the 7 mile location no problems. First time trying the mac. Watery yams idk how that’s possible without water 😳. I never had mac so bad. Mushy & seemed like velveeta. The beans weren’t bad but usually not as runny. This is not a bash on the entire establishment I am just so disappointed because I love this place. This is for whoever cooked the food I received today around 7pm. Please help them find a new job.

Because LCG is a neighborhood staple I will not directly DRAG this place ( clears throat) however the quality of the products used and the attitude from the staff sorta reminds me of a LANDFILL so if you're in the mood for an overall trashy experience check this place out. To Ownership : You should be ashamed of serving the community of which you serve such bottom barrel quality food . I mean for goodness sake look at the posted pics ( catfish seafood gumbo), do better.

I am so glad that Louisiana Creole moved instead of closing down. They are remodeling but it has not changed the recipes. My favorite dish is red beans and rice with shrimp. Excellent as always.

I only liked the po boy. The food was watery to me there was no roux used to make the gumbo so the flavor was not there for me. It was like old school Campbell soup. The jambalaya was a good flavor but it look and tasted as if they threw the shrimp on after it was thawed out. 🤷.
