The Hottest Restaurants in Sacramento Right Now, Winter 2020

"In a town that harbors very few black-owned restaurants (and, among those, even fewer that serve gumbo), Louisiana Heaven is an important addition to the local scene — even when it’s tucked into the corner of a micro-parking lot near a grocery store that’s set to close. Come for the perfectly crispy fried shrimp and fried fish, as well as harder-to-find menu items like boudin balls (boudin blanc sausage and dirty rice rolled into balls and deep fried). The chicken-and-sausage gumbo has shrimp and Dungeness crab laced throughout. Shrimp and grits and oxtails are served Sundays only." - Illyanna Maisonet

Love the music and energy of the space. When you can't go to New Orleans, go to restaurants that feel like NOLA. I think this was my 2nd or 3rd visit, but we've never been there when their desserts are available. The two items we ordered came out about 8 minutes apart. That was a little awkward seeing as there were two of us eating. The server let me know the kitchen had thrown in an extra piece of fish so the photo below may be more fish than you'd get with a standard order. I only ate the extra piece though. The ones under neath were tough and fishy. And I'm a fish guy, so that's not something I experience regularly. That top piece was perfect though! Crunchy. Hot. Thick. Fresh. Seriously yummy with their house sauce. I had the red snapper. The other photo is their "Heavenly Fries" which has lots of BBQ and house sauce and some juicy battered shrimp.

Great place If you're looking for southern style food! The ribs were amazing, but the catfish was the best I found in California! The place is super busy. You may have to wait, but it's worth it. The one waitress was super-efficient and very friendly.

This restaurant isn't very pretty, just a little establishment in the corner hidden from most views, and the inside isn't much nicer. Their profits are not going to a nice building, but where they shine is where it matters the most. THE FOOD. I ordered the 3 way. RIBS, SHRIMP, HOT LINKS. Food was very favorable and potions were not huge but just right. I ordered to go and they put utensils, sauce, ketchup, hot sauce in the bag. I received beans and rice, and potato salad for sides for a total cost of 45 dollars and it was a full meal for two people who eat light. I want to give a honorable mention as I was paying, I noticed I forgot a drink. I requested the mango drink and they complied. When I looked at my receipt, I didn't see the charge and said something. She responded "I gotcha". A free drink on the house. Here's where improvements can be made. Meat is expensive and I understand the portions sizes. However, one could provide a lot more beans&rices and potato salad. Those items are cheap and providing more would make the meal feel more valuable and fill up heavy eaters. I will eat here again.

Google
First and last visit. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo. I was full of sausage and tender chicken. The gumbo was extremely salty with little flavor and too spicy hot for my taste. I ate most but left the remainder behind. The young woman was fantastic she was order taker waitress and bus girl with a good attitude. The first booth I sat at reiked of urine so I moved to a different one.

Delicious Louisiana cuisine. The house IPA isn't bad either. Friendly and casual service, makes you feel right at home.

Unforgettable Southern Style Catfish & Ribs – Worth the Wait. I just found this place on a Google search. Restraints near me.. I was visiting from Fresno at a karate tournament. This place absolutely was a hiden gem! It was near a liquor store and looked shady at first. I walked in leaveing my family in the car to check it out. I almost left, because there was no seating. It was busy. It might be easier to call it in and get it to go. Nevertheless, I'm glad we stayed. The food was crazy good. The ribs were amazing (tender, smoky, and falling off the bone), the **catfish was hands-down the best I’ve ever had** – perfectly crispy outside, moist inside, and seasoned brilliantly. My son devoured his 2-meat platter, and my wife raved about her ribs paired with the incredibly creamy mac 'n' cheese and flavorful cabbage. Don't miss the red beans and rice either – they were phenomenal! Every bite was juicy and expertly seasoned. To top it off, the **strawberry lemonade was heavenly** – the perfect refreshing touch. Yes, it’s a small place and super busy (expect a wait, but **it's 100% worth it**), and parking is tight. However, the **staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming**, making our whole family feel right at home. We left already planning our next visit – this spot is probably the best food that I have had at a restaurant ever! This was more like home cooked Southern meal.

The food here is so good I got the hot link plate with Mac and greens and I must say it tastes amazing my go to for some comfort food!

I was hesitant on coming here because of the mixed reviews. However, Louisiana haven't did not disappoint! Everything was cooked perfectly. We got the catfish shrimp and Fried Chicken. Nothing was overly greasy. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked well. We got the sides of the collard greens, potato salad and red beans and rice and Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was off tha hook! Everything was really good. The greens were slightly salty. That's the only nitpick I can give on everything that we had. The cornbread looks weird but it tasted really good. It was a fluffier lighter cornbread that I'm used to the more dense kind of cornbread, but I was pleasantly surprised the catfish was super meaty and the portions were all very generous. We couldn't finish everything for the sides. I also got the potato salad and that was really good as well as the red beans and rice. Overall We were very satisfied!

Yelp
OML, they have everything in Sacramento. Perhaps it's time for a relocate? This place IS Louisiana heaven. I'll start with the kick out Cajun fries. Are you kidding me? I wanted to order seconds! Back up. I saw mixed reviews and guys, I don't get it. I walked in super hesitant, just waiting for a problem. A problem that never came. Their catfish shrimp is worth killing for. Incredible Mac -n- cheese and fall off the bone ribs. I could move in down the street? Friends, I could write about this joint for two more pages. You name it, they nailed it. Unbelievable. The collard greens just delicious. The Cajun Red Snapper? Textbook. Combine that with the huge portion sizes? IDC, what they charge, pay it. Soul food just like back east. It's a clean shop and friendly people serving serious food. Wanna hear crazy? I went back through line to order a few other things to take home and eat tomorrow! I am absolutely floored. You Louisiana Heaven people don't get ten stars today bc Yelp won't let me. I'll see you next week, doesn't matter that you're two hours drive away!!! Well done! 01/25

Yelp
This was a choice of my husband's today for lunch and I'm sure glad we gave it a try! Louisiana Heaven is a fairly small restaurant, although tiny they are mighty on their hospitality. Kayla greeted us, happily answered our 10 something questions, and kindly assisted us with our final meal decisions. The food is made fresh to order so be prepared to wait a bit! It's also stated in their menu as a FYI. I don't eat seafood, just not my texture. I know you're thinking well what're you doing here?! Hear me out... 1. To expand my palate and 2. Prep ourselves for our upcoming trip to NOLA! I ordered the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo which also came with rice on the side. 8/10 only because this was a lot more seasoned than I'm used too, causing it to be saltier than I like. This is totally a me thing. Very flavorful, filling, and chicken was super tender. My husband ordered the Louisiana Po Boy Sandwich and THAT in both looks and taste were 10/10! Each shrimp was seasoned and fried to perfection. The spread on the bread along with the fresh greens, tomatoes, and fresh squeeze of lemon made it a phenomenal sandwich all around. I'd love to return again to try their rib sandwich. I didn't get that today because I just had to get the gumbo! And I'm sure my husband will try another great seafood plate of theirs.

Yelp
We took a road trip all the way from the Bay Area just to try Louisiana Heaven, and let me tell you, it was so worth it. Even the hostess was surprised when she took our phone number for the order and exclaimed, "Oh, you from the Bay?" That reaction alone had me hoping we made the right call--and we absolutely did. The food was incredible! The fried catfish and chicken wings were served piping hot and fried to perfection. The catfish literally melted in my mouth, and the wings had that perfect crispiness without being greasy. We ordered the 3 meats and 2 sides combo, and every single bite was delicious. The mac and cheese was that real Louisiana-style--peppery, cheesy, and full of flavor. The greens were cooked just right, seasoned to perfection, and the cornbread was buttery and sweet enough to balance everything out. Honestly, the 3 meats meal was enough for two people to share, though I wouldn't blame anyone for keeping it all to themselves. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed our lunch, making the most of the trip after a long drive. Next time I'm in Sacramento, this spot is at the top of my list. Louisiana Heaven truly lives up to its name!

Yelp
Best macaroni and cheese I've had in a long time; the fried okra was off the chain as well. The cornbread was pretty good as well. The snapper was good, but a little on the dry side in terms of the texture of the fish. The ambience was pretty chill, and the people were very accommodative.

Yelp
Louisiana Heaven Café has achieved remarkable success due to its genuine culinary offerings and welcoming ambiance. The establishment evoked fond memories of my mother's homemade cornmeal Fried Fish and perfectly seasoned Fried Chicken Wings. The menu showcases classic Cajun and soul dishes, including Cajun and regular fried chicken, oxtails, and Seafood Gumbo or Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Additionally, it features a delectable array of Southern Barbeque, Ribs, Chicken, and Hot Links. Among the must-try homemade desserts are the Caramel Cake, renowned for its rich and dense texture, surpassing even my late grandmother's scratch-made version. The banana pudding is a personal favorite of my wife. For those seeking an authentic experience of Southern comfort food, Louisiana Heaven Café stands as an exceptional destination to immerse oneself in the culinary delights of the region.

Yelp
I don't know, things have changed back there in that kitchen. Recipes and ingredients constantly changing - and whoever is in charge of the pepper need to PUT IT DOWN‍ I loved LH for years - but trust me - for $88 - you can go to the store and feed a whole soul food meal to your family ! Passing on this in the future !

Yelp
I tried this restaurant today for the first time and I loved my meal!! I ordered a surprise bag with "too good to go" my plate came with a couple of chicken wings, Mac and cheese, fried cabbage which was soooo yummy and a slice of cornbread for 6.99!! I love me some soul food and I honestly can't wait to come back and try the other options they have! The lady at the front was really friendly as well :)

Yelp
The food was average to me as I've had better soul food in Louisiana. I wanted a hot link sandwich they were out. I'm not sure if this is bass or not, but it's not Red Snapper. The greens were spicy, and the macaroni was okay but they were both warm. The fish was the only dish piping hot but it was definitely NOT Cajun. The cornbread was average and I decided to opt out the dessert. I was expecting to eat my food at the park, but when I asked for utensils and napkins I was told "we out of everything." I guess it's a dine in only place. I feel like this place once had really good quality Louisiana food, great service to please those who craved this soul food, and an abundance of pipping hot dishes. The ambiance was peaceful as I was the only customer, they have two Televisions facing the wall. A complete disappointment. FYI: They accept EBT

Yelp
I actually ordered food from Louisiana Heaven on Doordash because I was craving fried chicken. I've seen posts on Facebook from the restaurant but have never been in the restaurant. After placing my order, within 20 minutes someone from the restaurant reached out saying that the side dish I had ordered (fried okra) was out but they promptly offered a replacement. I ended up with their 3-piece fried chicken, collard greens and potato salad. The chicken - it was crispy, well-seasoned and moist! The only thing I wished they had done was give me something besides the wings. Otherwise, the chicken was great. The collard greens - these were my FAVORITE! They had a rich smoked turkey flavor and the greens had a great firm texture. I added a little hot sauce to kick them up a bit but these were great. The potato salad - I'm not a huge fan of traditional potato salad, but this one was still really good. The right amount of salty/sweet, with a good texture from pickles and celery and a touch of dill. I would definitely order again. Might even stop in and eat there.

Yelp
Well seasoned and tasty food! I had Mac & cheese, cabbage with sausage & bacon and two fried chicken. Too good to go!

Yelp
Family oriented southern style restaurant located in a strip mall in Sacramento. The hostess was extremely polite and helpful. Even though it took awhile for our orders to come out, it was well worth it. I ordered the Cajun Snapper, greens, macaroni and cheese, and boudin balls. Everything was pretty good. My only regret is not asking for more tartar sauce!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place, but the food just wasn't to my taste. I ordered the shrimp basket and the shrimp itself was great, but the sides were underwhelming (particularly the cornbread). I ordered the food through DoorDash delivery, so it may just be that the delivery person took too long and the food sat out for longer than expected. The mac and cheese was dry and greasy. The potato salad needed more seasoning. And, that cornbread made me sad. I am used to sweet cornbread, but I understand true southern style cornbread is savory rather than sweet. This cornbread was neither. It tasted like a sponge without flavor. I would have loved to order the shrimp and grits, but that is only available on Sundays. My niece ordered the two way with fried chicken and shrimp and she ended up throwing up all night. Because I had the shrimp and was OK, we could only guess it was the chicken. The next day, I ordered Sarom's and knew I should've just went with them in the first place. And, yes, I did get my shrimp and grits from Sarom's (so good).

Yelp
I haven't had soul food very much and the few places I have, were either ok or below average. Louisiana Heaven was great! I had the Ox Tail w/ rice and gravy and a side of cabbage. If this is what soul food's suppose to taste like, I am hooked! The rice was cooked well, gravy was tasty, ox tails were packed with flavor and tender, corn bread was warm and fluffy, and the fried cabbage was delicious! Above all, the service I received was wonderful. The ladies were polite and tentative to me as a guest. I would most definitely recommend if you're looking for some Ox Tail. Will repeat and try something else on their menu sometime.

Yelp
Small but quaint. Delicious food. Live music!! The service is great too!) I love it .

Yelp
The gumbo (chicken & sausage and seafood) here is top notch...best I've found in NorCal. Easy access off of CA-99. Pull up & treat yourself to a piping hot bowl of southern comfort.

Shjuana W.

Yelp
It was ok! The food wasn't great! The oxtails were fatty and a little salty. The BBQ links looked like cut up hotdogs. The lemonade was like syrup. I The food was not, "Louisiana Heaven" at all! It was more of a, "Bad Bootleg Louisiana Heaven". I was disappointed! It has the vibe but not the taste!

Yelp
Terrible, Ridiculous, service/ wait times... I waited over an 1.5 hrs and several to go people came in to order and received their order before us. We were dining in and watched how unorganized it was. We repeated our order a few times, in addition it seemed as though at least one of the two servers did not want to be working. Straight attitude and a lack of customer service, she did not care about the service she was providing. Mac and cheese and fries were ok. I did not like the catfish nuggets. AND they had the audacity to ask for payment first before getting the food! Sad.

Yelp
Family is from Louisiana so this is the next best thing. You must try the boudin, so good.

Yelp
I recently had Louisiana Heaven cater a party at my house for 20 people. It was the best decision I ever made. I'm going to have parties in the future just so they can cater. I ordered ribs, fried catfish, greens, Mac n cheese, and red beans and rice. The catfish came with a lovely tartar sauce which stole the show. The mac n cheese was truly elite. I can't say enough good things about the food. It was absolutely "heavenly." All my friends couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. The service was amazing. It arrived promptly at the delivery time, if not a few minutes early. The driver asked where I wanted the dishes, set them up, and asked when I'd be serving them so he knew to let them breathe or not for the perfect temperature. I cannot recommend this business enough. Thank you, Louisiana Heaven, we will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
I wanted to try something new and came here with my son and ordered fried catfish and fried chicken with fries. The place was average clean and the service was good. Personally the fried chicken was average but the fried catfish was amazing. I will 100% come back again and eat here again.

Yelp
Their menu is extensive and the food is very good. If you get a chance, go on a Sunday and be treated to fabulous music by Ronald Matthews on the front patio. He is such a joy to listen to. You will not be disappointed by the food or the free entertainment.

Yelp
First: this place is a small little comfort spot where you can go to get your grub on. Second: the menu selection is diverse, so long as you are down for anything Soul/Southern/Seafood. Emphasis on Soul food. Third: if you are looking for KFC/Church's/Popeyes this ain't the place for you. Now, if you want authentic, go here. Everything from greens to okra to fried catfish and more. Let me tell you, it felt like I had died and gone to Heaven. I had the two split plate. Ribs & fried catfish. My sides were greens and fried okra. I added a third side, red beans and rice. Koolaid to drink. Didn't have room for dessert, otherwise I would have grabbed some peach cobbler. They make everything from scratch. And the flavors are in it. You can tell they put the time and effort into making everything taste right. The lil girl that took our order was very sweet. She brought everything to our table, and even asked if there was anything else we needed. Very sweet. We will be making a return visit. Being raised in the south, you develop a taste for southern food and for Soul food. I was raised on both. I sure have missed it. But I am glad to have found this lil spot.

Yelp
I came here with my youngest son for an important dinner out of the house last Saturday. Before looking up the actual location I thought this place was on the other side of Valley High Dr near Elk Grove. But it's actually on the South Sac side, off of Mack Road and Hwy 99. I passed right by it at first, but caught it after turning around, because it's nestled in the corner of the lot that it's in. We arrived around 6:30 and there was one person ahead of us, which gave us an opportunity to look at the menu while we waited. With my dad being bored and raised in Georgia, I've grown up on Soul Food but my son; not so much. So I was excited to see what he'd want to order, plus I've visited New Orleans before and enjoyed the local food. And couldn't wait to try this NOLA inspired restaurant here in Sacramento. Once we got to the register we were greeted by the guy at the counter and my son ordered the BBQ Pork ribs platter with Jambalaya (at the suggestion of the guy) along with fries and Kool Aid. And I went with the BBQ Pork Rib platter as well with a side of green and Mac & Cheese; with a sweet tea for my drink. Luckily we got here when we did because after sitting down at our table it started to get really busy with dine-in, to-go and Door Dash orders. I noticed pretty quickly that they were short on staff, as both people at the counter were taking orders, and took a while to clean off our table. So I didn't hold that against them, since they were also trying to tend to people ordering. I think overall it took about 30-40 mins for our meals to be ready, which was fine based on the number of staff and the orders coming in. And my son and I kept ourselves occupied with the Kings game, they had playing on the large flat screen directly facing our table. Our meals came out as they were ready, and it took a trip or two since only one person could to the orders out. But right off the bat everything looked amazing! *Main Dishes: (2) BBQ Rib Platters *Sides Jambalaya Greens Mac & Cheese Fries *Drinks: Kool-Aid Sweet Tea The ribs were de-lic-ious and my son and I both enjoyed them. The greens were bomb too with the perfect amount of spice. I wasn't sure what my son would think of the Jambalaya as he can be picky at times and not want to venture out; but he really liked it so that was a win as well. The Mac & Cheese was just ok, IMO so I'd probably opt for a different side next time...because there will be. But don't let that detour you from trying it because maybe it'll be your thing. And the fries seemed to be good too from what my son said. The Kool-Aid drink he really liked at well and said it reminded him of the drinks at Fixins' in Oak Park. The Sweet was ok too, but I think that because it was lemon flavored which I'm not a fan of, but it was good enough to finish. NOTE: Prices have increased since the menus at the counter were last printed. When I dined here the menus said the Rib platter meal we ordered were $15. But they were actually almost $18; Yelp however is updated with the correct prices. The in-house menus should just be scrapped or prices manually changed. Overall: With the bustling conversation and laughter throughout the night, at the counter between patrons and staff. Louisiana Heaven gave me that feeling of a local gem of a restaurant that everyone loves. I felt like I was dining back in Oakland or somewhere else dining with family. The staff was also very friendly and the food was really good. Would definitely check them out again!

Yelp
This is my first time here and I heard raving reviews about this place online. Decided to give it a try. It is next to a liquor store and lots of traffic of people in the area. The ambiance was nice and had great music playing. Good customer service but I wasn't impressed with the food. I spent $27 on everything. The fried chicken wing flavor was decent but not amazing. There was one wing that was not cleaned and it was hairy. The cornbread was plain and undercooked. It was still doughy so I tossed that out. The greens were good but not memorable. My favorite was the fried cabbage and mac n cheese!!! They were both packed with flavor! Would come back for these sides specifically! I will come back and try something different maybe fried fish or ribs but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Yelp
I love coming here during their lunch specials from 11-2pm! They have some really good deals on their meals. I got the catfish & mac n cheese for $11. My fiance got the red snapper and cajun fries & my mother got the ribs & mac all for the same price. The staff here is great as well very sweet and hospitable! I also love how clean the restaurant is. The food came out quickly and was hot n fresh. Both of the fish were pretty tough but the ribs were good and fell off the bone. The mac n cheese was too die for, very hot, cheesy and delicious. Old fashioned baked taste which I looved! I will definitely be coming back for the mac n cheese n cornbread alone!! Next time I will try the fried chicken special and see how that is! Very nice hole in the wall spot worth trying!

Yelp
We attended the Catfish and Crawdad Festival at the South Side Park in Sacramento today. Stepping out of my comfort zone and decided to try the alligator bites. I was charged $25.00 waited patiently for my order and when it was ready they gave me 3 yes! THREE bites and half an order of fries! I went back and asked the woman who was working the booth did she forget some food? She said no that's the order! I didnt make a scene I left! Not very happy but I continued to enjoy our day! I should've gone to Mo Better Finger food where they serve 10 pcs in their order for the same price. I dont know if the Festival is happening tomorrow, if you go DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY at least not on the alligator bites! I hope their restaurant is better than their food truck! I'll never know! Dont plan on patronizing them at ALL!

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday, there were no lines but the wait for food was a little while as most items were made to order. Got the shrimp and grits (served only on sundays) and the po boy sandwich. Both were delicious however I will say, you get a bang for your buck with the po boy, the sandwich is so big! Definitely will have you feeling satisfied plus have leftovers lol Overall if you're kraving southern food, definitely a place to try out.

Yelp

Yelp
Love love love this place! Upon arrival, we are always greeted even if there is a long line! And all the employees are always so nice and friendly. Food is always delicious and desserts are always perfect! Lots of seats inside and I feel like the menu has a little bit of everything for everyone's liking. We will always come back here!

Yelp
Really was hoping to find decent soulfood in Sacramento, but this was not it. Out of an Oxtail and rib plate, only thing seasoned was the Mac n cheese. The oxtail served with hard/raw rice and flavorless brown gravy. The ribs are also cooked without any seasoning and they weren't cooked all the way through. The cabbage looked like it would be good but no seasoning just oil. You can get better corn bread from a 50cent box of jiffy mix. Also bought a desert but they didn't even put it in the bag. 67.00 down the drain. We will never be back, even to get the cake that was already paid for.

Yelp
My partner and I aren't familiar with the area but he did find this place. He knows I love soul food, and this place is IT! Like the name, this really was heaven. My absolute favorite item was the Fried Catfish, and like the rest of the food it seriously didn't lack anything. Flavor was on point, period. The staff was awesome as well, super friendly and they were super busy when we got there. They definitely had a lot going on, however we did not feel rushed. They're superstars. As far as the establishment goes, I think with a full makeover of the restaurant, they can literally be even greater. The restaurant's appearance did not match the food or service. My 5 star rating is about the food and staff and they were both amazing!

Yelp
Louisiana Heaven is a little piece of Heaven on earth. The food is seasoned to perfection.you don't need to add salt or nothing.Everything I ate there was soo delicious.Try the red snapper or catfish, cabbage and red beans and rice, the ribs omg the meat falls off the bones. My favorite is the fried shrimp. As for the customer service. There's a wonderful guy name Gio there he goes above and beyond.he definitely deserves a tip every time. He is one of thee best employees there.Their lucky to have him. He's always in good spirits and makes you feel soo comfortable while dinning in their restaurant. You must go here. You will definitely enjoy it.Ask for Gio

Yelp
Food is dry and flavorless. Service is slow and rude. Place looks dirty and it's in a sketchy area. The worst place I've even been to!

Yelp
Tried this place out to the first time. For 3 different plates and here is my review ! I ordered for pick up on DoorDash because calling in would take some time since they are extremely busy ! My food was ready within 45min of ordering and I chose to pick it up instead of delivery When you get there it's a small parking lot so drive carefully! Plenty of parking to find a spot. All spots in front of the restaurant were taken as there were a few people outside waiting to order and pick up so plan ahead since this place is a favorite spot. My first plate was the ribs with Mac came with cornbread. Everything was pretty delicious but I am not a fan of the corn bread. The ribs were cooked well and you can smell the smoke on them so that was nice. Second plate was the shrimp dinner with rice/beans and potato salad. My husband ate that and said he enjoyed the shrimp batter it was light and crispy. Potato salad was good as well. Rice and beans tasted average he said but was well seasoned. Third plate was the oxtail with rice and gravy with Mac and cheese and fried cabbage: I enjoyed some of this along with some of my rib plate. Yes of course I had leftovers for the next day. The fried cabbage was delicious ! So was the mac and cheese. The cornbread came for free with all plates and that's the only thing I was not a fan of. Everything else was pretty delicious!

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Great atmosphere, employees are helpful and patient. The food is just next level. Everything, EVERYTHING tastes phenomenal. My favorite would have to be the fried catfish, macaroni, banana cream pudding!!! Go

Yelp
I love the shrimp and Grits. I loved the Terri Does Desserts cakes but she has retired recently. The portion sizes are good. It's a small cozy little restaurant in the heart of Valley Hi and Mack Rd. The staff is friendly. They now have little buzzers to tell you when your order is ready which helps. It's a great community addition. We need more black owned businesses.

Yelp
Gumbo to salty did not enjoy. I am a diabetic. Try cutting back on the salt. Some food was over cooked otherwise keep cooking.

Yelp
I tried the boudin link, and it was really good. My husband got the ribs, and the meat was falling off the bone. Too good!!!! I like how they have outside seating.

Yelp
Family owned restaurant that was really good. The ribs were soft and juicy. The catfish was crispy. The cornbread was very dry and not sweet. The max and cheese was cheesy and seasoned well. It's a must pickup food spot!

Yelp
While visiting from Houston my sister suggested we try this place! She knows I love oxtails & advised these were "bomb"! They were very flavorful--perfect portion & texture! I only took a few bites because I didn't want to destroy my white shirt! I will be eating the remainder this Sunday for dinner! The best part of this entree was the cabbage on the side! The best I've EVER had! We also ordered chicken, gumbo, fish & prawns, Mac & cheese, greens, & red beans & rice! The fish, chicken, & prawns very tasty! The potato salad was okay--not spectacular BUT I was not mad at it! Overall--I would drive AGAIN from Roseville to the south side for a meal! You would not be disappointed! Added bonus--the cashier Kai--super sweet!

Yelp
I never leave reviews this bad but o have to be honest. I had such high hopes for this place especially with the star studded photo wall. The service was absolutely horrible. I was told 15 minutes for my fish dinner but that turned into 30 + minutes with no follow up, apology, or courtesy of one smile being cracked by the front desk hosts. The food was horrendously disgusting. The red snapper was the fishiest smelling fish I've ever had. Was beyond over cooked, so dry and overcooked. I took one bite and couldn't bear the thought of any more. The Mac and cheese was unseasoned. Very bland! The cornbread seemed to have been cooked two days prior. Hard and cold. The greens were the best thing I had and those Weren't even that great but not too bad I ate a couple of fork fulls then just gave up on the entire dinner. $25 down the drain and I will never go back. What the lack in quality of food they also lack in courtesy and customer service. The employees were moving items from a truck into the back of the restaurant and were irritated with me for being in their way while I waited for my food. I wanted to love this place but repulsed by everything. Didn't take pics because there was nothing to capture about the plate.

Yelp
Had it delivered via grubhub, and the food was amazing. We had two fish dinners. The quality was excellent. Everything was seasoned well, and not greasy. This will be my go-to for Louisiana-style fried fish.
