Amazing record store. In New Orleans for Mardi Gras and couldn't leave without grabbing some vinyls from this store to take back home.....and they didn't disappoint. See you next year during Mardi Gras 2026!

Louisiana Music Factory is on the edge of the French Quarter. If you drive parking isn’t easy and the neighborhood is about like you’d expect for that section of town. But it’s worth the effort to get in there. They have a great selection of local music and lots of cds vinyl and DVDs. The nice thing about the vinyl is that they do have new items but even more used. And the used selections are fairly priced. They of course have a large jazz selection but also country, rock, soul, folk, and blues.

Hywel Maslen

Google
Barry the owner is a lovely guy and was so happy to help. Loved this store for all the different styles of music and rare gems on the walls. Fantastic selection of new orleans music in dedicated sections. Cds and vinyl. Mostly catering for rock, folk, jazz, blues and soul, this is a place that is worth coming for a dig for sure. In a top location that has plenty of other great things like the jazz museum nearby.

Google
This is a music lovers paradise! They have CD’s, vinyl records and albums, books, posters and much more. It’s near the Jazz Museum and they are affiliated. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in New Orleans!

Google
Fantastic place! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back. Kermit Ruffini and the Squad played on this day, it was absolutely amazing, so happy they just happened to be playing while we were in town.

Google
This store is like a museum and old school archives at the same time. We loved the decoration, the vinyls and cassettes sections. I recommend for every type of music lover!

Daniel Kehoe

Google
Excellent experience selling used records to the store. Very professional and reasonable, to the point that I threw in a few extra at no cost. Highly recommended for prices, selection and customer service.

Jon A

Google
Great collections of the essential vinyls like new orleans music or rock stuff but surprisingly a healthy amount of used vinyl in other categories including a great international section. The other jazz is great too and the walls in the back have some great finds. The staff was so accommodating and the prices were more than fair for used wax. Make this a stop if you’re wanting to dig for some rare ones. Give yourself at least an hour.

Yelp
My hubby and I really enjoyed visiting the Louisiana Music Factory (LMF) on Saturday, 09/28/2024 when in NOLA for a mini vacay from Austin, TX. Located in a brightly colored building on Frenchmen Street (corner of Frenchmen St. & Decatur St.), LMF is one of the longest running record stores in New Orleans. LMF definitely has an old-school record store vibe to it - minus the old musty smell and w/ the modern day comfort of ac. Trust me when I say that you'll for sure want to spend hours at this local NOLA gem, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to visit. LMF has a huge inventory of vinyl records and cds (old and new - all genres, including a great assortment of local New Orleans music) that are neatly organized and reasonably priced. It also carries musical posters, books, and shirts. There is also a Yelp perk of getting $2 off a t-shirt when you check-in on Yelp. Lastly, shout-out to the LMF employees who were very helpful during our visit - very much appreciated! Till next time, Rebecca

Yelp
Any music lover will want to visit this amazing store that specializes in regional music and more. Knowledgeable staff, great selection, vintage posters, t-shirts, cool books also available. And a beautiful store kitty cat!

Yelp
This was the most unique record shop of all that I visited and had nice jazz sounds of Dexter Gordon pumping through the speakers when I entered. The shop carried albums and CDs of all primarily Jazz, R&B, Funk, Rock, Blues and New Orleans based artists. There were also musics books for various instruments and general music books for various genres. There was a good mix of new and used at various price points which made it great for digging.

Yelp
WOW! This is the place to buy your records in New Orleans! I came here a a couple of times during my recent New Orleans trip last week. The atmosphere at the Louisiana Music Factory is so energetic and fun. The staff are so friendly and very knowledgeable and professional with music and records. They have a huge selection of different style music genres. They have old, new and hard to find music and just love this place. You won't be disappointed at all. I use to live in California so this record store has the same cool vibes like the legendary Tower Records and Amoeba Records in LA. I highly recommend this place!!!

Yelp
upon this place by mere coincidence; I was out roaming around the French Quarter and out nowhere this place appeared. As someone who already has an extensive vinyl collection I'm always looking for that rare find or missing album to add to it. So wherever I go I like to find the local 'wrecka stow' to see what they might have. I was thoroughly impressed with this one. For openers, it's decent sized which increases the opportunity of finding one of those rare gems. Add to it, they make good use of the space as things are very organized and not cluttered as some places I've visited. There is enough space between aisles that people can move around without bumping into each other. Add to it, there is plenty of staff and they are willing to help you. Based on my interactions they are very knowledgeable of their inventory. I inquired about a few artists and they immediately knew if they had anything by them along with knowing where to find it. They have an extensive collection of new and used vinyl as well as CDs. As for genres, they cover the spectrum with traditional jazz, R&B, gospel, rock, etc. Additionally, they have a great selection of music by artists local to New Orleans. They also sell lots of local art, posters and a huge stock of branded t-shirts. All of this is mostly at the front part of the store near the entrance. While I did not find anything on this visit (that's more about my collection and not this wrecka stow) I will return on my next visit to New Orleans. If you're into owning physical copies of your music and you are in the area I recommend checking out Louisiana Music Factory.

Yelp
Even in this time of Amazon, it's hard to drill down and find the wealth of Louisiana recorded music. When I was younger, I used to visit New Orleans at least once a year so buying music was easy. I don't get to this city as much anymore so I was determined to stock up on Zydeco. I don't have enough of it and driving through the lower half of the state listening to local radio made me miss it all so much. It was a pleasure spending time here rifling through the CDs and piling up a stack to take home with me.

Yelp
Easily the best record shop in the NOLA. The prices are right and they have a great selection. Friendly staff.. cool T-shirts' and great jazz records .

Yelp
My husband and I try to crate dig whenever we're in a new town together. I could have been in here for 2 hours more and spent a bunch more money. Don't miss the $1 boxes in the back. Picked up some Ramsey Lewis and some Nancy Wilson and I'm just excited about music always. Don't mind me.

Yelp
We walked in and it was reminiscent of being inside what Tower Records was like in the 80's. For their stock I'd say 4 stars but what we witnessed and experienced was unacceptable. An older lady reading the local paper while on duty when a younger hip kid walked up to ask who to speak to about renting the entrance space for their art. There was a sign that said if you're interested in renting the space for art work to inquire inside. The lady looked up annoyed and barked at this kid so sharply like a Karen and yelled "IT'S ALREADY RENTED." You could just feel everyone in the shop stop in their tracks. I looked at this little girl with shocked wide eyes and run to her mom. The hip kid calmly replied "That wasn't the question. If I'm interested who do I speak with?" The rude Karen yelled and barked at her again saying "IT'S ALREADY RENTED. GEEZUS!" An older gentleman looked over and looked at her newspaper and looked at me. He gave me the look like "I don't know what her trip is." If you're in customer service you need to service customers not read the newspaper while working. Although I wanted to browse more the person I was with didn't like what we just saw and wanted to get out of the toxic energy. The French Quarter and New Orleans is a tourist destination. Music art and food is the big draw. Something like this can ruin a tourists or artists trip. I was even affected by it. This didn't sit well with me. Now everyone who was in that shop has a negative story to tell about their trip in that store. Which reflects the French Quarter and New Orleans. Mel M Yelp 21:22

Yelp
This is the record store for people who like records. Staff is exceptionally helpful and know their inventory . Made recommendations for jazz records we were buying as gifts and the recipients were thrilled. Huge selection. Stop in to peruse the shop and I bet you won't walk out without a vinyl or two under your arm

Yelp
Music helps me relax and escape, so this year it was especially important to prioritize new tunes in my life. Very happy to support local and was very pleased with LMF responding to my email inquiries. I was looking for a specific Allen Toussaint album and the associate I communicated with helped steer me in the right direction after determining the album was out of print. Not only did I get what I wanted, I picked up two more albums because the prices per disc were SO reasonable! Hoping my dad comes through with a gift certificate so I can continue to support and listen local!

Yelp
A "deep cuts" selection of new and used vinyl and CD's. When I popped in on a Friday night, they were on the verge of closing. I realized I wouldn't have the proper amount of time to thoroughly skim their collections. I popped back in the following day and the store was buzzing with customers and a live folk band! The store layout was nicely labeled and made it very easy for me to navigate. There were rare albums aptly placed on the wall. Beatles, Bowie and Cash ring a bell. Although I could've dropped a fortune, I went with the debut album from Benjamin Booker, a Louisiana-based singer/songwriter/guitarist that I've been meaning to snatch up for a while now. LMF has local art as soon you enter, a massive stock of branded tees, and posters to the left of the store. Plus, a small stage to host live music. The total package!
google avatar

Joel H.

Yelp
One of my "to do list" goals for a first time trip to NOLA was to find a record shop. LMF is indeed a record shop in terms of vinyl records. And so much more. The staff were really helpful and gracious, the variety of new/used vinyl, 45's , CD's, and cassettes was excellent. I picked up three jazz LP's that were all about New Orleans - 2 of the 3 were recorded in New Orleans. No surprise since LMF "specializes in regional music.." What a treat to flip through records in a shop that has such a warm and welcoming vibe. Even the resident shop cat was cool!

Yelp
Best music selection of New Orleans music and Black American music around!!! Friendly Very knowledgeable staff. When one does Frenchman street music....stop in and load up!!

Yelp
This city boasts some incredible records stores of course. My uptown hood includes the massive Peaches, white roach, sisters in Christ and mushroom. But for local recordings louisiana music factory stands alone in the entire city. A treasure.

Yelp
GREAT RECORD STORE ! My wife and I were in New Orleans a couple of years ago to see Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers at the Jazz & Heritage Festival. The band was brilliant ! We called by here on the Monday before we flew home and bought a few albums and mags. The place had a great atmosphere with a couple of New Orleans jazz bands playing live in the store all afternoon. They have a lot of new vinyl and a heap of the old school blues artists. Hard to beat !

Yelp
I purchased two DVDs from Louisiana Music Factory when I was at French Quarter Festival in April. When I got home to rural Kansas I realized I already owned these important DVDs (New Orleans Jazz Funerals; Faubourg Treme'). They graciously allowed me to exchange them and when shipping caused me to owe them $4, they waived it in the spirit of lagniappe. I've always loved the store and visit it every year at FQF or any other time I'm in NOLA. Thank you Louisiana Music Factory.

Yelp
I hadn't actually been in the store in it's "new" location...yes I know they moved 2 years ago. Can I just say I LOVE the new space! Spacious and airy and bright!!! And when I had to run in to purchase a couple of last minute Christmas presents, I found parking around the corner and was in and out in less than 30 minutes! The staff is still top-notch. They are knowledgeable and friendly and offer amazing service. Love that their is a Swamp Shop to support WWOZ inside the store. Definitely the place to stop to get your local music fix.

Yelp
I visited this record store after checking out the brewery across the street. The staff were knowledgeable, and I conversed excitedly with one of them about old school blue and jazz musicians, and how I was stoked they had a few Leadbelly (Lead Belly?) records. I don't see those very often, so I grab them when I find them. I tend to search for the typical same records/musicians when popping into out-of-town record stores (Janis Martin, Leadbelly, Red Hot Peppers, Brownie McGhee, Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith, Beatles stuff I don't have, Cheap Thrills, etc.). That being said, it's a spacious store, with a wide range of new, unopened records, re-issued oldies, and used records, too. Record stores are always a surprise, since inventory is constantly changing and new stuff is always arriving, so it's nice to find something awesome while checking one out for the first time. Staff was nice, and I was glad I could have a conversation about blues with someone who didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing everything there is to know about the subject. I dig blues and jazz, but it's still something I'm learning about. 5 stars because of the great selection, plus the fact that they had several Leadbelly records, and I know he's not an artist that is lisened to by everyone.

Yelp
This is a cool store with great collection of vinyls, CDs, music t-shirts, and sheet music too. It has a relaxing old-time vibe. We also loved meeting the shop cat Snooks.

Ryan Y.

Yelp
The workers here were amazing! They helped me find was I was looking for and we even talked it up a bit! This place has a great selection probably the best I've seen! I definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!

Yelp
One of the best places to find local music from New Orleans and the rest of the region! I have found jazz, blues, zydeco, cajun, and even big band music here (I'm a Louis Prima fan). They even have vinyl records upstairs. The staff here are great in assisting you find the right kind of music you are looking for if you are a little unsure. Your CD collection (if you still keep those) will be greatly enhanced after a few trips here.

Yelp
The name says it ALL. If you are seeking music by Louisiana artists ,THIS is THE spot to look. They also have a very nice selection of non-Louisiana music available, plus, DVDs, t-shirts, boxed sets, vinyl, in-store live music during certain times of the year. If you don't feel like digging around ask the folks behind the counter. They are wonderfully knowledgable and super nice!
google avatar

Robi P.

Yelp
Every Saturday they have a live performance of a local musician. During Jazz Fest it's every hour. We met our Favorite NOLA artist Teressa Anderson there yesterday. *SWOON* For those of you who still buy music, and support local business and entertainment, this is your store. We buy all our cajun flavored music from their prompt online mail order as well. Pictures to follow...

Yelp
Cute little record store in the Marigny on Frenchman. Do record stores like it when you call them cute? Priding itself as an "award winning indie record store", I had to see what all of the fuss was about. I ventured inside to find that they had much better prices that the other record store on Decatur near Jackson Square. It was much smaller though, but had a quaint feeling about it that made me want to hang out for a while. There was a mini-stage at the back where they often have live music, although on this day, there wasn't anything going on. I went in on a Saturday around 11am. The staff were friendly, decor was cool. They had cardboard cut outs of several famous jazz musicians like Dr. John. They play a huge role in supporting local musicians, as well as mainstream music, which I can totally appreciate.
google avatar

Sean O.

Yelp
I loved this music shop on the lower end of Frenchman Street. So much local music that I couldn't find elsewhere. Great T-shirt selection as well. Staff was so awesome and friendly. If you do stop in, make sure to say hi to Snooks the cat and don't let him wander out the door.
google avatar

Hunter R.

Yelp
What kind of music store tells the music club across the store that their music is too loud. I was done giving your store my money after one of your employees decided to continually Harass me about my dogs. But asking Vaso to keep their doors closed is what got you this review. You guys are lame.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
I know of few establishments from which I've received this kind of service both as a buyer and seller. I really appreciate their attention to both the artist and the buyer, and their true passion for what they are doing in the heart of the city and for the heart of the city. In those ways they are a piece of that heart of the city.
google avatar

Andreas P.

Yelp
This is your headquarters for all music in NOLA. Not only the expected local and state scene, but other genres as well. Fair prices on new and used vinyl + friendly and knowledgeable staff makes for a must stop on the record store shopping circuit in the city. Also a great location on Frenchman!
google avatar

Darren A.

Yelp
Located in the French Quarter, this store is very organized and quite relaxing to just hang out. Mainly and heavily catering to the jazz music genre, one will find themselves just browsing through the aisles looking at the many artists and releases. There is also a small section of used rock Cds, which may have some items of interest. I did find 2 used DVDs for cheap so it was not a wasted trip. If you are into the jazz scene, this store will be perfect for you.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Great record store in New Orleans, nice size collection for everyone to browse through and enjoy.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
Another staple for me while visiting. Whether it is buying music, seeing live bands, shopping for vinyl to listening to new music, they have it and I love it. This is a must see while in NOLA. The move to Frenchman is welcomed because the music scene is so great there. It's a good break from the quarter so take the stroll and see some locals. While inside go beyond the cds and vinyl to peek at the various listening stations, find a cool shirt to wear, support local artists pieces, or even buy a card for someone. Buy something to help support the fade-away of music stores. If this store ceases to be, I think a part of my heart would never mend. It's that good. The staff will help you find an artist or recommend a group. Want to see a show, they will give you some details too! There are some great stories that evolved with LMF being present for the major music festivals. They represent and I hope they will continue to live on.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Fabulous store. Easy Uber ride from Hotel. Great selection of used vinyl, perfectly categorized and filed by artist and genre. Walked out with several gems on my want list. Will definitely return next trip to Nola!
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
Fantastic music store! Extensive collection of CDs and Vinyl, specializing in NOLA artists, obviously, but with lots of traditional jazz, rock, gospel, R&B, etc. Prices are very reasonable as well. Best of all, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. I had some really nice exchanges with guys behind the counter. For the record (no pun intended) I liked this place so much, I actually went back a second time during my week-long stay in New Orleans. Absolutely recommended for visitors to the city. Don't miss this one!
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing store. If you are looking for records in New Orleans, you should schedule a few hours or a full day here. Great selection and fair prices. Found many used LPs that I had never seen anywhere else. Deep Jazz selection. Would definitely be the record store I stop at first if I travel back to New Orleans in the future. P.S.- Take a moment to pet Snooks the cat while you are there.

Carol K.

Yelp
I ordered a vinyl online and had a problem with the way it played. I contacted them by email and the response I received was so fast and courteous. Excellent customer service! My issue was resolved better than I could have hoped for.
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
I came to this store twice while I was visiting and picked up a few CD's from local bands. Earphunk, The Valparaiso Men's Chorus, and Norco Lapalco. They also have a wall promoting local shows, free stuff, other events. It's great to stop in especially if your a tourist and want a quick run down of what's happening in the city.
google avatar

Sol J.

Yelp
Don't be shy. There's something here for everyone, at every price point. I went home with three $3 gems. Also, I got to use a listening station just to check out my new discovery before buying.

Adam E.

Yelp
Love love love this spot! Fantastic selection of new and used vinyl. Specializing in rock and regional music there is something for everyone. They have a great $3 bin with quality records not ones that are trashed and unplayable. If you are an audiophile definitely check it out
google avatar

Bruce Y.

Yelp
This two story music store has everything from Used DVD's and one of the more expansive selection of Music DVD's I've seen. This is the place to go if you want albums of local artists. Also, the place to go if you're into Jazz, Zydeco, and stuff like that. Awesome selection of used cd's, I came out with six albums for 14 bucks or so. I wasn't impressed with the owners tho. They seemed like total elitists, and weren't very nice. I overheard one guy asking for a recommendation on a good po'boy shop, and they told him, but once he was gone one of the guys cracked a joke and said "I think we should just start making up places." I guess that's my only complaint tho. Great location with Beckham's Bookstore only a few feet down the road.
google avatar

Miriam W.

Yelp
Great, great record store. Whenever I come here I'm reminded of the amazing amount of music being created in New Orleans...they have it all. If you're visiting New Orleans and you want a CD to take home, but aren't sure what you want, this is the place to go. They have listening stations and the knowlegable staff will assist. I could spend hours here.
google avatar

Rodney H.

Yelp
Wow..... I'm still speechless with the selection, service and prices. When I regain conscience, will add more to this amazing experience.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
This place is rad: the perfect neighborhood record store where you can spend hours rummaging through the moderately priced vinyl. I found so many great gems, and most vinyl was $3. The people that work there are classic, older, friendly rocker dudes that seem like they were created specifically to work there. Also, another huge plus: it's in the hectic, touristy part of the city, but there's a public restroom.
google avatar

Doc B.

Yelp
I love this place! It's the antithesis of corporate music retailing. It's funky and unique. Free live performances - check them out on YouTube or their website. You can pick up a coupon, go down the street, get a beer at low cost, come back with it, catch the act while you browse the cd's. There is a great selection of local music past and present and a great collection of tee shirts. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. If you have a Jazzfest Brass Pass, get a discount. Don't let the music die!
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Really killer vinyl spot! Classic spot that's been around forever with great selections all around. Staff knows their stuff when it comes to music and especially New Orleans music. They always have higher end 45s that make me save my money for! Unlike the other record shops in town they do not buy vinyl. Only complaint would be that parking is always a pain but always worth it in the end!
google avatar

Chad P.

Yelp
Ok store. Selection was good and prices were ok. Good location near the Jazz Museum. Staff less than welcoming. Had that "shop and don't bother me" feel. It won't be on my "return to" list on my next trip. I'd recommend skipping this one and going to Euclid Records instead.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Awesome collection of vinyl records upstairs with many many many Jazz and vocals records. There were so many that a jazz newbie like me doesn't even know where to start. I found the best thing to do is just jump in and listen! Listen, listen, listen to find what you do and don't like. Their $3 vinyls cover whole shelves and boxes underneath. Take your time rummaging through them and discover good things. Many of the vinyl you find here probably won't be as common outside of the area (especially here in California) so if you're going back and forth about a New Orleans jazz record, just get it. The guys at the counters are very well versed in New Orleans music and seem willing to help. Parking can be a challenge but you can always park in the lot at One Canal Place by the hour and walk over, which you may as well do since you'd have to pay for a meter anyway. If you're on foot, it's in the middle of the touristy FQ just near the end of Decatur so it's easy to get to off of the Canal street car line. Music is probably the best souvenir you can bring home so why not support this great record store instead of buying a cheap "Made in China" replica of something to collect dust?
google avatar

Kent L.

Yelp
There is something specially tactile about the process of listening to vinyl that you just don't get from CDs, particularly since there more record purveyors closing every year. That being said, this is one of the wonderful place to get music in the United States. The staff is quite knowledgeable and very friendly, helping my search for Louisiana musicians like Eddie Bo, Irma Thomas, Geno Delafose, Rosie Ledet. I'm impressed by the breadth and depth of Louisiana music selection here from jazz, blues, zydeco, cajun, rock, funk, and more. If you hear some music that you can't live without while in New Orleans and would like to take home with you, it's likely that you'll find it here. This is a must stop for me whenever I'm in New Orleans, not only for music CDs and vinyl, but also t-shirts, posters, music DVDs - both performance and instructional, and a small selection of movie DVDs. The fact that there is usually a discount coupon at the City of New Orleans's official tourism site - www.neworleansonline.com is a bonus.

Yelp
Calling all dorks-- carve out a couple of hours and go upstairs at LMF. Thank me later.
