The Hottest Cocktail Bars in San Diego, May 2024

"Big summer energy radiates from Louisiana Purchase’s bar, run by beverage director Rob McShea. Gear up with cocktails like the G-Thing, a tumbler of guava-infused mezcal, lime, and soda. A lineup of Nola-style frozen margaritas includes the Coco with tequila, lime, and coconut cream or the Drive Through with tequila rose, watermelon, lime, and agave. Can’t choose? Order a hurricane glass swirled with both." - Kelly Bone, Candice Woo

Let the Good Times Roll at North Park’s Louisiana Purchase - Eater San Diego

"A slice of the Big Easy makes its official debut in North Park today with the opening of Louisiana Purchase, the new restaurant and bar at the corner of University Avenue and Louisiana Street. Developed by local restaurant group Grind & Prosper Hospitality (Miss B’s Coconut Club, Park 101, Whiphands), and designed by Jeff Svitak of Jeff Svitak Inc., the New Orleans vibes start in the kitchen, which is run by Louisiana transplant chef Quinnton Austin, also known as chef Q. Austin spent 15 years cooking in Louisiana, training at the Culinary Institute of New Orleans and creating his versions of Creole and Cajun classics that now appear on the North Park menu, including sweet potato cornbread etouffee, gumbo ya ya, and savory alligator cheesecake with crawfish cream sauce; the chef tells Eater that he’s hoping to educate San Diego diners on true NOLA cuisine, especially dishes found outside of the touristy French Quarter. Louisiana Purchase’s menu will change every season, but chef Q says he’s also offer weekly specials. Grind & Prosper partner and bar manager Rob McShea created the cocktail menu, which offers twists on New Orleans originals, from the Voo Doo Carre with cognac, whiskey, sweet vermouth, amaro nonino, apricot balsamic, and spiced cacao tea bitters to a Ramos Gin Fizz variation called Cash Money Fizz that features cinnamon and grapefruit-infused Hendrick’s. A category named after a fais do-do, or Cajun dance party, inclues their version of a Hurricane and a sharable punch dubbed Pablo Discobar that’s served in a disco ball. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Louisiana Purchase will launch weekend brunch on the first weekend of April." - Candice Woo

Google
Drinks were great, server was pretty cool and high energy making the vibes so much fun. I think they were short staffed though because our server disappeared for a while and we were wondering if we could get our check and all the servers were so limited that the check came pretty late. Overall it was a chill atmosphere with the r&b throwback artists. The cheesecake appetizer was the best out of everything we tried.

Google
We came down from MN this was some of the best food I ever had in my life! I got the dookey chase meal. The chicken was fried to perfection, oxtail dirty rice was absolutely amazing with a perfect amount of spice. Also got a size of the Mac and cheese, absolutely amazing. Breezy was our server, she had very warm and welcoming energy. Very knowledgeable and patient. 10/10 on the food and experience.

Google
The atmosphere is such a nice vibe! The r&b music and the fire just add to the ambiance and provide a great atmosphere. The food is pretty delicious! We were able to try the Rockefeller oysters and they are the best. The oxtail rice and Gouda Mac and cheese are delicious. This place did not disappoint!

Google
I’ve been to Louisiana Purchase a few times now, and whenever I end up there, I know I’m in for good food and a good time. The menu has some solid dishes — the oxtail and mac & cheese combo is definitely worth trying, and the biscuits are always fresh and buttery. It’s the kind of place where you can order just about anything and feel confident it’s going to be flavorful and well-made. What I really like about the place is the atmosphere. The design and vibe make it feel a little more special than your average restaurant, and the staff has always been friendly and welcoming, which adds to the whole experience. Overall, it’s a spot I’d recommend if you’re looking for something a bit different with a New Orleans twist. It’s a fun place to grab a meal or drinks, especially if you’re with friends and want somewhere that feels a little elevated without being too formal.

Google
The vibes were immaculate, food was so prompt and fresh and biggg portions! NOTHINGGG lacked flavor, presentation was nice. My friends and I were tended to by Breezy, and she was so sweet and accommodating. She was helpful with recommendations and suggestions. Definitely will be returning to try more items that we didn’t get to try today! Ps. Dress nice, everyone looks so good!!

Google
Man o man this place is a gem. We drove 45 minutes down to SD. I got the smoked Gouda plate with oxtail and some sweet potatoes on the side. My husband had the ribeye. We were blown away! We’ll definitely be back to visit again. Our waitress, Ashley was such a sweetheart and prompt. I love people who enjoy what they do. She made the experience worthwhile and was very welcoming. Thank you!!

Google
The customer service was five star.. the best thing on the menu I had was the red beans and rice. It was packed with flavor. I also like the ketchup which had horseradish in it made in house . I was disappointed in the fries since they was fried hard, but the chicken was nice and juicy flavorful the mac & cheese was also good with the Gouda. The oxtail dirty rice was OK but the oxtail was nice and tender . The drinks were amazing. Watched the bartender hydrate her own fruit which was an extra show in itself this is a must try when you come to San Diego.oh, and the music was on point also

Google
The food and ambiance were excellent!! The hostess took far to long to seat us and didn't bother to address us until she saw me ask a bartender who was responsible for seating. Once we were sat, everything else was top tier. I highly recommend you eating there. We dined for lunch which was very upbeat. I can only imagine how lit dinner service must be

Lana P.

Yelp
the food was excellent we had the Jambalaya & smoked Gouda Mac n cheese with chicken. the service was wonderfu. very friendly and helpful. This place is definitely a must.

Yelp
4.5 stars The host here was so friendly and sweet. We were running a bit late and I called ahead of time and she very kindly noted that she would honor our reservation. The food, while a bit expensive, was good. I've been to NOLA a few times and I'll say the food was pretty close. My husband got shrimp and grits which was by far the best dish of the night. I got catfish etoufee which was pretty good but flavor was mild compared to the shrimp and grits. We tried the lobster Mac and cheese as well which was beautiful but super rich!! 4.5 stars because the food arrived a little later than we'd expect. I think the Mac and cheese might take awhile to prepare or they were a bit understaff. Probably waited about 30-35 minutes for apps.

Yelp
I cannot stand how great the food is here. We have been to NOLA three times so we had a baseline on our food. If this is the closest we can get to NOLA, we left very satisfied. The dishes here will melt your taste buds, they nailed it because the food served can described in three words DE-LI-CIOUS! It is easy to drive past this corner place on this busy street so slow down. From the outside it was hard to tell if we were at the right place the sign out the outside has the letters 'LP' so use that as your landmark. Be creative on the parking this place is in a residential area. After you enter you will see the bar on the left-side and tables that extend to further back for smaller groups. We came here for Saturday brunch and it got a little chilly and breezy evening in San Diego this place catch a breezy that flows through the inside, so bring a jacket for the morning brunch or dinner time. We had a party of six in our group. We had all a great experience! It was our first time here so we made reservations for brunch. From the start of our meal the rated 'G' drinks were flowing between the mocktails and ice tea - just to name a few. Our drinks were fantastic, the delectable dishes from this restaurant really stole the show. We started with the cheddar biscuits (arm wrestling over the last piece), the catfish, gumbo and to wrap the meal we ordered the beignets. We also ordered the charbroiled oysters Rockefellers, these did not last long at our table. We ordered the vanilla waffle with fried chicken. Yes, the chicken was crispy, crunchy and delicious. The fried catfish delicious and was a nice sized portion that will satisfy an adult's appetite. Add to this was the smoked gouda mac and cheese, which was ooey, gooey and tasty. We could not resist the four fried chicken wings-big adult sized wings not small Jenny Craig sized wings and it that comes with a fresh and hot biscuit and a side of collard greens. This dish was straight from flavor town. My friend ordered the Rasta Pasta and shared this dish but this also did not last long. Another delicious dish! The beignets were the main reason why I came here, having been to Cafe Du Monde three times, that was the hook that peaked my interest in this restaurant. I enjoyed the beignets here, they were hot, fresh tasty and layered with the white powdered sugar! The service was excellent also. While everything was delicious, the flavor and quality of the food stood out. The crowd favorites were the fried chicken, catfish and mac and cheese. This place definitely deserving of all the praise. Well done to the restaurant!

Yelp
Let me start with this; EVERY SINGLE THING IS DELICIOUS. We had the cheddar biscuits, the catfish, the gumbo, and the beignets. They were all absolutely amazing and SO WELL SEASONED. But the best part was the service. Ashley W. took care of us and she was so fun, attentive, friendly, and had the best recommendations. The music was incredible, it wasn't too warm or cold, honestly it's just a great place. Bottom line, yall need to go and if Ashley helps you out, you're in great hands.

Yelp
Absolute wonderful atmosphere, beautifully decorated. The service was greatly appreciated and on point. Our first time here, every dish was fantastic, there were 6 of us. The gumbo was delicious, a tad salty. The shrimp and grits with bacon was phenomenal. The blackened catfish was very tasty. The mac and cheese with chicken with cornbread was delectable! Beignets were outstanding!

Yelp
First timer and the food was very seasoned and tasty. Service was good but must be too busy for water/coffee refills. Celebrated a birthday and our server managed the surprise cake smoothly except the dessert plates came out before the cake. I told the birthday girl I ordered beignets for everyone. #GarlicCheddarBiscuit #LemonPepperCatfish #DirtyRiceWithOxtail #CollardGreens all tasty and very seasoned with a kick but to my liking Parking is an issue. I circled about three times around the block until a car parked near the restaurant pulled out. That happened to a few of us. I will definitely be back but will try and figure best time to find ample parking.

Yelp
Host was little rude honestly. Our server was in top of things thou for sure got our drinks and food order. The food is pretty good the chicken and fries was prob the best one of all. The drinks they don't have any good selection and it was all mixed and juice nothing to get tipsy about. Tried gator bites was good also. The Mac and cheese took a while but our server kept telling us it's because that's the popular dish but worth the wait prob the best dish of all we ordered twice.

Yelp
Louisiana Purchase has been a favorite of mine but this was my first time back in two years (Not based in San Diego) but we had a good time. The biscuits were amazing & the portions were huge for the entrees. We did wish the menu had a little more variety but the flavors of everything we had were great. Even though the restaurant was not full, the service was a bit slow to where we had to flag down other servers which can feel chaotic. They also told us all the chicken was pre-fried when we inquired about grilled chicken which we thought was a bit odd. They also did let us sit on the patio with my pup. The music was good & the heaters were ON but the employees could have been a bit more friendly.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
I loved everything about it! You do have to find street parking but I lucked up and got a spot very close to the entrance. The service was great and the food tasted like home! The flavor was there & the portions are nice. They have so many Southern dishes on the menu. The oxtails were so tender. The gumbo had the right amount of spice & the drink was excellent. You have to try this place :)

Yelp
Overall decent experience, but quite a bit of variability throughout. Parking is super hard here so we were about 10 minutes late for our reservation. Once we got there we waited another 10 minutes or so even though our table was ready. There was a long line of people at the door by the time we finally got seated. We finally sat down and it seemed to take quite a while to take our order (it may have just been that we were already antsy from waiting so long at the door). Once our waiter came, he was awesome and super friendly. We ordered the garlic cheddar biscuits, special oxtail fries, catfish étouffée and gumbo. The best thing we had all night were the biscuits, followed by the oxtail fries. The catfish was cooked nicely but I didn't love the étouffée sauce. It wasn't bland but it seemed to lack depth and honestly just wasn't as good as others that I've had. The gumbo was the biggest disappointment though. Pretty bland and at least based on what we could see, didn't offer all the seafood it advertised--it didn't have any crab. The portions were big but it was super overpriced. Lastly, we both had stomach aches from this meal and my husband got sick again the next morning when he ate his leftovers. Overall, I think they're super understaffed but I like the concept and the people were nice. The food is decent but it's way too overpriced. Also, not sure about the seafood quality since we both got sick.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences you'll ever have in San Diego! The food is always excellent (not just good, not just great,,EXCELLENT!) Service is always with a smile and the music is slappin! Great neighborhood. Madison (my adopted Daughter) and Vic my brotha from anotha motha and singing partner (dudes got a great voice) really enjoyed ourselves. This place never disappoints! .

Yelp
Terrible experience. We ordered the biscuits and they weren't fully cooked. The service was horrible. I don't blame the waiter, you can tell they have bad management. This is the type of restaurant where it may have been good when it first opened but they're rushing and not prioritizing quality food and service. Save your time and money, go eat somewhere else.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had reservations for 8pm Valentine's Day. We got lucky and got a parking spot directly across from the restaurant. Parking is terrible! We approached the check in stand and the lady who assisted us was so welcoming and nice! She took us immediately to our patio table. Thankfully there were heat lamps on because it was cold. I observed the restaurant and it was very nice, very dimly lit. Our waiter came by and introduced himself and informed us that they were out of the lobster Mac and oysters. I wanted to try the lobster Mac. He took our drink order and I ordered the Pink Starburst which was DELICIOUS! We got the appetizer gator bites( first time trying) and they were good they came with french fries. Our main course we both ordered lemon pepper catfish mine with brussel sprouts and smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. My boyfriend had collard greens and dirty rice. The presentation was nice but our fish had no taste of lemon pepper at all. I think the oil needs to be changed because our fish tasted a little burnt. The Gouda Mac and cheese was very good and so we're my brussel sprouts just a little bit too much sweet sauce from the maple sauce on them. Now my boyfriend's sides was another story. The collard greens had way too much vinegar and the dirty rice was overpowered by either cinnamon or allspice. Now the bill- $125.00 plus they add a server's charge which you can ask to be removed and they suggest for 18% or more in gratuity. The food was good, not exceptional but I feel you pay for the ambiance here.

Yelp
Beautiful location, lots of outdoor heaters to combat the cold and keep the customers warm, delicious food and tasty drinks. Service was wonderful. Had an amazing experience. Get the Gouda skillet with oxtail (11/10)

Yelp
Best meal we've had in a long time. Luckily we had reservations for Valentines weekend because by 6pm Saturday night the hostess said they were no longer taking walk-ins. The restaurant is small and cozy with good music choice (90s rap and r&b). We ordered the lemon pepper wet wings, acme oysters, biscuits, dooky chase with Gouda mac n cheese, gumbo, and gooey butter cake. Everything was fantastic, absolutely delicious. I was initially bummed when our waiter said they were out of the gumbo, but a few minutes later a manager, Tanesha, stopped by and offered to bring us a small bowl if it came back on the menu because they had paused serving it due to quality. I was so excited when our main dishes arrived and my bowl of gumbo was there- perfect amount of spice and so flavorful. I want to mention again how above and beyond Tanesha went not only with us, but with other parties.

Yelp
I made a reservation for my birthday dinner checked in got seated immediately service was great waiters were super helpful and nice the drinks were strong but soo good food was great!! Ambiance was spectacular a little pricey but food portions were big definitely recommend overall I had an amazing experience thank you to the chef and staff great job!!

Yelp
This was a good restaurant very close to the real Nola taste but not 100% the taste I was hoping for but would recommend to others.

Yelp
I went to Louisiana Purchase a couple weeks ago, ordering the oxtail skillet upon recommendation from my server. The portion size was more than plenty, giving me a tasty meal and a hefty set of leftovers. The oxtail was tender and the meal came with cornbread and Mac and cheese. The atmosphere appealed to me with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, fitting for a healthy mix of a casual and business setting.

Yelp
There's a lot to unpack here, and it was an odd experience- not good, not horrible. When we first sat I was really impressed with the server, she was very informative and helpful- even brought me a little sample of the Mac and cheese! (I can't have spicy things) I wish I remembered her name- she gets the 5 stars of this review. Now the 3 stars. We ordered tequila Paloma's- several of them- and each one looked oddly different. This is so bizarre to explain, but the 1st 2 were ok, then the 3rd looked creamy (and tasted) and the 4th was pink! Normally pink in a Paloma is a good thing, but after receiving a sort of light tan, then an orange cream and then a pink one we were getting slightly concerned with what the heck they were actually making. FOOD- Unfortuantly, they served one of our party undercooked blackened catfish. Blackened on the outside, definitely RAW inside. Bummer. Overall the food was... good. Not great, not amazing, but not bad tasting either. I cannot say it was worth the crazy price. We also received a birthday beignets- didn't ask for it, which was nice, but then they tried to charge us for them! This was already a very expensive and large bill- We were a party of 6- which also includes a 26%- yes you read that right- gratuity. Like, WHAT? A party of 10, sure, but 6 people doesn't seem like that many for that large of tip. Again, the server was great, but ummm 26%? Yeaaaaaa. Kinda nuts. Long story short, I can't in good conscience recommend this place to much. I won't say it's awful, but I can't say it was a winner either.

Yelp
Went to Louisiana Purchase with a couple of my foodie friends, and I had a blast catching up with them over some Southern flavors. The place had a relaxing vibe, and it was packed. While the servers were doing their best to keep up with the demand, it didn't completely compensate for the food. The gumbo had a bold smoky kick from the andouille sausage, but it was a bit too heavy on the salt and smoke, which overshadowed the other flavors. The biscuits had a promising flaky top but were a bit dense inside, missing the light, fluffy texture I was hoping for. The sliders were full of Louisiana character, but the sauce was a bit too overpowering, masking the other elements. Even the raw onion couldn't cut through the richness of the sauce. Overall, the meal had some flavorful moments, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.
google avatar

Robbin R.

Yelp
Salt forward. The service could be much better. Good intentions, but miss the mark. Very much a place for the younger crowd 20-30s. I appreciate the different events and experience efforts, but the attire and manners of servers needs some work. Food was heavy on the salt and cooked hard. The best thing was the cornbread and mimosa flight (disappointing the bartender couldn't tell us which flavor was which). On street parking. Reservations available, although don't come too early, the opened up 30 minutes after our reservation.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. It was full of authentic flavors and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the great service and atmosphere. Everything we tried was delicious. We will definitely return.

Yelp
- [ ] I did my research about great eats in San Diego and one places that was highly recommended was Louisiana purchase. The reviews all said that the food was tasty and it was a must visit. Amongst other things it is a black owned restaurant with a Louisiana influence. Checking out the menu and other reviews, I immediately set my eyes on the smoked Gouda mac & cheese with oxtail. They also have a wide variety of options that make your mouth water. - [ ] After arriving early in San Diego and being in the brunch hour, we decided to go to Louisiana purchase. We went around 11 o'clock and it wasn't too busy, but there was already several patrons at the restaurant. The hostess was nice and welcoming. The restaurant has both inside and outside seating with heaters on the patio. It was nice. - [ ] Our waiter was was somewhat attentive. He gave great recommendations based on food choices, and drink choices. My brunch buddy ended up picking what I wanted to eat a.k.a. the smoked Gouda with oxtails so I picked the lemon pepper catfish with brussels sprouts and Cajun fries. To start off we picked the biscuits with butter and jam. Those weren't your ordinary biscuits they had flavor without any butter or jam. They were flaky and crisp at the same time. The jam only made it even a better experience. We got our food fairly quickly after the biscuits my brunch buddy is not a big eater, but he ate pretty much the whole Platter of food. I even tasted the oxtails and it was very good along with the mac & cheese. My lemon pepper catfish was fried but not greasy. It was so tasty and so were brussels sprouts. The Cajun fries were really good too as well. - [ ] Unfortunately, I can't quite remember the name of all my drinks, but they were really good as well. My brunch buddy rum punch he shared was a little too sweet. My French margarita was really good and another drink had a mezcal base. Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Louisiana purchase. I actually wanted to go back, but I knew there are a lot of really good restaurants in San Diego still to check out. Whenever I return to San Diego, definitely hitting up Louisiana purchase. The vibes, the weather was perfect, and so was the music. - [ ] LP is about 10 minutes from downtown San Diego. I will also note that parking was pretty easy to find near the restaurant.

Yelp
The food speaks for itself. Worth every penny. The staff were very attentive. The mixed drinks were very delicious. The perfect anniversary/date night restaurant

Yelp
Ughhhh I'm obsessed with this place. This is my second time here for dinner and it was just as good as the first time. Our waiter, Joe, was so fun and attentive. The wings were very good, the red beans and rice were everything I wanted, and the old fashioned was SO GOOD. Everything really hit the spot.

Yelp
This was our first time here and it was a delight! First of all the service was outstanding. Everyone working there checked in on us constantly and everyone helped each other out - it was great. We got their brunch. My husband got the ecto-cooler and I got the drive thru margarita slushie. Both were delicious. The ecto-cooler was in a little bag reminiscent of our childhood. The slushie was so refreshing on the hot day. Chicken wings - we got the lemon pepper. Super flavorful and the fries were well seasoned. Drop top chicken flock (their Chicken and waffles) - chicken here was great and the waffle was delicious. It had a grill flavor to it that was tremendous and that grill flavor was in a few of our dishes. Breakfast sandwich - made on their homemade biscuit! This was insanely good. Again, can tell the grill got some love here. Nice and cheesy. We got there at brunch but by the time we were done with the main meal it was dinner time so we got the beignets. They are BIG! And come in 5. Very good! This is an indoor/outdoor cute spot that would be great for brunch with friends! They have drinks that come in HUGE sizes that are shareable we noticed on the menu. The only downfall of this place would be the price. Don't get me wrong, the proportions are large, but for the two of us it was 140. We DID get three drinks but still, kinda expensive. Please be aware that there's also a 5 percent service charge. I don't mind that kind of stuff but I know it can bother some people. If you ask they can remove it. Parking: we got street parking on the residential street and it wasn't bad. All in all would come again!

Yelp
We were so excited to score a last minute reservation on a Friday night as we have been meaning to try out LP. We tried the Gator Bites, Lemon Pepper Catfish with two sides of Dirty Rice, Dooky Chase with a side of grits, the seasonal special of Jambalaya Gnocchi and a separate side order of candied yams. We wrapped up the evening with an order of the beignets- delish!!! The flavors were amazing and portions were generous, so we had plenty of leftovers to take home. A shout out to our server, Ayauna C- she was so warm, welcoming and super efficient. She provided great recommendations. We enjoyed every single dish we ordered and can't wait to return and try others.

Yelp
Would love to review because the menu and the food looks great in pictures, however, arrived at 12:15pm on Friday, 2/14/25 and the restaurant was not open, despite their own website listing the hours as opening at noon. I always double check hours I see on third party websites against the restaurant website, so I would suggest you make sure the ones on your website are accurate.

Yelp
Came to LP for the first time to kick off pride week in SD and see the fabulous production of bayou babes! Tink is such an amazing host and always knows how to keep the energy and vibes GOING! Came with a group of girlies and they opened up shortly after noon so the line to get in moved quickly. The queens did their thing and put on a great show! I had forgotten to bring cash but luckily they had the queens Venmo qr code on some flyers around the restaurant so that made it easy for me to tip them out. As to parking, I found street parking on the north side of university and had to walk out of my way to get to the cross walk. Note: park on the south side of university for easier walking access. The service was taking a while, we didn't get to order our food till more than an hour later and the table behind us, who was seated after and ordered after got the apps before we did. Luckily our drinks did get there early enough, and boy did they all look so fun! The kool aid drink looked like the crowd fave, I ordered the gin cocktail which wasn't too sweet but delicious! As to food, we ordered the biscuits, which are huge! And for the main course, I was torn between the chicken and waffles and the oxtail omelet and the server suggested I go with the oxtail since it's not your typical brunch item, and they were right! It was so good and it was such a big portion I had leftovers for lunch later. I hope they do bayou babes again so I can come back and try the chicken and waffles

Yelp
Came here on a busy Saturday night (reservations highly recommended) and everything was great! The food portions are very large and 100% shareable. Drinks were delicious. Music was great! Cons: Our server was attentive but nothing above and beyond. The food is pretty pricey, and the menu is a bit small. Over all I think it's a great place to stop by and check out!

Yelp
The Louisiana Purchase restaurant truly delivers when it comes to authentic Southern comfort food. I tried the catfish, collard greens, and mac and cheese, and they did not disappoint. The catfish was perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and tender inside. The collard greens had just the right amount of seasoning, and the mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and downright indulgent. Beyond the food, the vibes at Louisiana Purchase are chill and inviting. The laid-back atmosphere makes it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal with friends or family. Whether you're there for a quick bite or a leisurely evening, this place hits the spot. Highly recommend for anyone craving some solid Southern cuisine!

Yelp
What a pleasant experience the Louisiana Purchase is a gem ! The food was amazing. I have the Gouda mac and cheese, with the best cornbread I have ever tasted, and chicken breast with a spicy, but not too spicy breading. The service was excellent, even for a Friday night. The Cajun themed food had a great up beat fun ambiance and music. They do add 5% , which is noted on the bottom of the menu. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Had an amazing time!! Louisiana purchase was a restaurant that I wanted to try anyway and it was so amazing that there was a babes brunch drag show!! We had a blast!!! The food was incredible! I had an alligator omelette and my friend had the fried catfish and grits both a 10/10!!!!! They also have great cocktails too, I'll be back soon !!!! Randy killed it as it was totally packed, was so attentive and even had recommendations on where to park Inside is a cute little bar area with a club stage, and a huge wrap around outdoor patio. Cute decor also maintains the Louisiana vibe-

Yelp
Food was good. Had fish, oysters, chicken, mac and cheese, yams, oxtail rice - between seven people. Pros Food was seasoned well. We all tried different dishes to get the southern taste. Everyone ate a good portion of what they liked. Cons We all had left over mac n cheese. Prices were $$$. We spent over $400! I do not think any dish on either of our plates, taste $$$ worth. Service was good. I could tell Abraham had a few tables because we had to request and wait for drink refills. He had very good recommendations on what to order. He knew the menu and provided answers patiently to our questions. Nice outside - quiet but inside was busy and loud. We were seated by fireplace. It went well but tight at times for a bigger sized person. Overall best place for conversation as you arent yelling to hear one another. Con Mosquitoes and flies try to feast on you or your food. If I ever return, it will be for drinks. The parking is difficult for the area so I will need a drink!

Yelp
Street parking is hard to find. I noticed parking at the grocery store across Louisiana St but there were signs posted that indicated it was private property and subject to towing. Lineup, Louisiana Purchase opens at noon on Saturday's and you'll be seated within 5 minutes without a reservation. Friendly hostess. Table and bar seating options were offered. Ask your waiter ot waitress to turn on a heat lamp if you are a bit chilly. Music is a game changer and delightful patrons were softly signing, tapping their hands and feet, . Casual attire is welcome. Seats are not the most comfortable while table spacing was fine. Tableware and silverware quality was simply adequate. Server approached politely and timely. Drink menu is impressive. Food menu offered more options than I expected. There are drinks and food items for individuals and groups. Portions are big. Prices are a bit high $82 for me with tax and tip. i ate two of the four biscuits for $15 the sides of jelly and garlic butter were good so I finished them after just two biscuits. Ten wet lemon pepper wings were tasty l, lightly skinned not breaded, and I ate like six of the assortment of flats, drums. I barely touched the fries they were not my preference but well done as intended Next time I'd maybe try the mac and cheese with shrimp and grits over the biscuits and wings. I ate two of the excellent powdery light beignets (for dessert) which can be messy and wind can blow powder sugar on to your hoodie. It was a 15 minute wait for the beignets and ssrvice slowed as more people filled the dining area so in and out it was over 100 minutes for lunch., With a reminder to my waiter, I got coffee which was freshly brewed although no cream or splenda was offered.

Yelp
I came home from work on a Friday last month and really wanted catfish and comfort food. Plugged in catfish into yelp and Louisiana Purchase came up. It looked good so I called and made a same day reservation. No problem. I was hungry so it was kind of early. When we got there the place was about half full. Seemed like a lot of regulars. We were sat and ordered a couple cocktails. They were so good! Very interesting and had a lot of care and detail put into them. I had The Bing and my husband had the praline old fashioned. We ordered the biscuits. Honestly these were underwhelming. Kind of like drop biscuits. Very big and had no lamination. Still loving my drink we ordered our entrees. I chose the catfish crispy at the suggestion of our server who was also one of the bartenders. It was amazing. Huge piece of fish but I ate the whole thing. I ordered a side of greens and they were tasty. Packed some heat though. My husband chose the oxtail skillet. The oxy skilly as one of the staff called it. It was amazing. Everyone working was doing friendly and professional. Super attentive. As we were leaving the place was filling up. Looked like a DJ was setting up. Parking is on the street and we lucked out, but it's free parking. You should check it out.

Yelp
I came hear for a friend's birthday and everything was amazing! I ordered the gumbo and it was delicious. Everyone else's food looked so yummy too so definitely will need to try new dishes each time I come. The cocktails were delicious as well and we just had the best time. The vibe here was bomb; music was popping and indoor space super cute. We had Ashley as our server and she was just the best. She helped me surprise my friend with a homemade cake and was so kind and attentive. So grateful for the food and service here.

Yelp
Wow! Speechless. Loukas, thanks for the recommendations. Biscuits are incredible. My lady loved the gumbo, I ordered the oxtails with Mac&Cheese, absolutely FIIIIIIIIIRRRREEEE. I need to come back and try the wings. Overall everyone seemed to be enjoying their plates, the whole place smelled amazing. Vibes were cool, music was appropriate, does get busy fast.

Yelp
From beginning to end the service was amazing. 10/10 to our server who was so kind, funny and always checked in on our table to make sure we were okay. The food was also amazing!! The chicken was super crunchy, juicy and had the perfect amount of spice, the cornbread was moist, soft and had such a nice but not over powering honey flavor, greens were super flavorful and for the Mac and cheese let's say my friend whose really picky about how her Mac and cheese also loved it! The only thing I had to complain about was the area my table was at. Though the restaurant ambiance looked and felt great the area I was sitting at was directly under the glaring sun. The whole time me and two other friends (we were a table of 6) had to keep holding up our hands or use a menu to block out the sun from our face. Would absolutely go again, but hopefully sit in another spot next time!

Yelp
When I tell you this place is FIRE! The TikTok videos that convinced me to try this place did not disappoint. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection, crispy and packed with the perfect balance of seasoning. The Mac and cheese and greens were very good as well. We originally ordered the oysters for our appetizer but I guess since we were there closer to closing they started running out of items. So they gave us a complimentary appetizer which was the Crawfish Garlic Parm Wings - 8 Wings with Red Beans and Rice. I am so glad we ended up with this because the wings were amazing. I would have never thought of a crawfish combination with wings but it worked! The red beans and rice were pretty good too. I got the mango mango margarita as well, the drinks were just ok in my opinion. The only complaint is that it took a very long time for them to bring out our food. The waitress was really nice and brought out complementary drinks after our first round to make up for the extra long wait. It seems like a newer restaurant so I give a little grace with the service. Overall the food was great and I would go back when in San Diego area.

Yelp
What a disappointment! The service was excellent. We arrived, we were seated by a very friendly hostess. Our waiter was super attentive and kind. But the food was so bad!! It was bland. And in no way good. It wasn't gross, but it has nothing enjoyable about it. Greasy, salty and bland. How is that even possible? I ordered the shrimp and grits. Grits were bland. Shrimp was undercooked. And the tomato sauce was not good. Bear ordered the lemon garlic catfish. The catfish was good but the sides were just bad. The Mac and cheese was dripping in oil but it was bland. The oxtail rice was bland. The biscuits were undercooked. This was not southern cooking. It was just sad. The gin and juice was good tho.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't left this review sooner - we love Louisiana Purchase and have been going here for literal years. The service is always great, the food is delicious. I think I've had one dish I didn't like in all the times we've been. Brunch menu is OK, I'd recommend going at a time when you can get both menus if that's what you want, but the dinner menu is 10/10 and we love that they switch up the offering. Always get the biscuits. Try the crawfish wings. The Mac and cheese or shrimp & grits is always bomb. We also love the short rib sliders.

Yelp
Make sure you make a reservation if you're going on the weekends because the wait even with a reservation can be a little long but even longer if you don't have it. The wait was well worth it. The food was amazing and a lot of food. We got oxtail fries, chicken and Mac and cheese, garlic Parmesan wings with Mac. Everything was sooo good and the portions are so big so if you both want the same thing you can definitely share it. The ambiance and atmosphere was very nice, I would definitely go back. The service was awesome.

Yelp
Outstanding. I have never been to a place where everything was divine. I tasted a neighboring tables gator bites, and I will say they were so seasoned and yummy. The oxtails were so damn good and a generous amount given. We all got different things to get a full experience. The steak, mac n cheese, fish, and red beans and rice were all amazing. Mac n cheese was on point, the beans n rice had hella flavor and ohh them damn biscuits !!! Best meal I have had in a long time. Most places do one or two things right, especially with this type of cuisine. They did it ALL RIGHT! Def will be back and I live in LA.. Come to LA lol.

Yelp
My knowledge of soul food is pretty limited, so I was hoping for Louisiana Purchase to introduce me to southern cuisine. I was pleased to see a happy hour menu handed to us which meant we could try a little bit of everything and have some small bites. We came on a Friday at opening and there were customers already lining up waiting to be seated. Service was a little slow when it came to the food, but our server was sweet and let us know about the wait. Our appetizers from the HH hour came first and we got the Gumbo and Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings with fries. Great deals for these two! The gumbo had generous amounts of sausage and chicken. Our wings were cooked perfectly but I was not much of a fan of the dry rub seasoning. The Lemon Pepper Catfish came with your choice of two sides, and we chose the Collard greens and added their Gouda Mac for an additional $4. Highly recommend the mac! The catfish filet was fried throughout and was great with lemon. I still didn't taste the lemon pepper flavor much except for the juice of the lemon, but it was still a good entree. I would come here again, especially for the happy hour deals which are only offered Wed-Fri. I love the vibe of the restaurant as it feels secluded and intimate for North Park. Cons are wait times of the food, however, once received the quality is great and I like the constant rotation of their specials.

Yelp
The customer service was five star.. the best thing on the menu I had was the red beans and rice. It was packed with flavor. I also like the ketchup which is housemaid. I was disappointed in the fries since they was fried hard, but the chicken was nice and juicy flavorful the mac & cheese was also good with the Gouda. The oxtail dirty rice was OK but the oxtail was nice and tender . The drinks were amazing. what's the bartender hydrate her own fruit which was an extra show in itself this is a must try when you come to San Diego.oh, and the music was on point also

Yelp
I was craving gator and stumbled upon this restaurant. The atmosphere was inviting and the server provided great service and knowledge about the dishes. The fried gator was absolutely tasty.
