"A slice of the Big Easy makes its official debut in North Park today with the opening of Louisiana Purchase, the new restaurant and bar at the corner of University Avenue and Louisiana Street. Developed by local restaurant group Grind & Prosper Hospitality (Miss B’s Coconut Club, Park 101, Whiphands), and designed by Jeff Svitak of Jeff Svitak Inc., the New Orleans vibes start in the kitchen, which is run by Louisiana transplant chef Quinnton Austin, also known as chef Q. Austin spent 15 years cooking in Louisiana, training at the Culinary Institute of New Orleans and creating his versions of Creole and Cajun classics that now appear on the North Park menu, including sweet potato cornbread etouffee, gumbo ya ya, and savory alligator cheesecake with crawfish cream sauce; the chef tells Eater that he’s hoping to educate San Diego diners on true NOLA cuisine, especially dishes found outside of the touristy French Quarter. Louisiana Purchase’s menu will change every season, but chef Q says he’s also offer weekly specials. Grind & Prosper partner and bar manager Rob McShea created the cocktail menu, which offers twists on New Orleans originals, from the Voo Doo Carre with cognac, whiskey, sweet vermouth, amaro nonino, apricot balsamic, and spiced cacao tea bitters to a Ramos Gin Fizz variation called Cash Money Fizz that features cinnamon and grapefruit-infused Hendrick’s. A category named after a fais do-do, or Cajun dance party, inclues their version of a Hurricane and a sharable punch dubbed Pablo Discobar that’s served in a disco ball. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Louisiana Purchase will launch weekend brunch on the first weekend of April." - Candice Woo

This is a must stop in San Diego! Great food, service and atmosphere. Good 90’s hip hop, not too loud but upbeat. Everything was freshly cooked, so there was a wait but it was worth it. Also the craft cocktails were delicious. We got the Gin and juice and strong island. The food is rich and slightly heavy…….no diets here.

This place was super fun. Had great music (we love R&B) and our service, from Abraham, was great! The food was good but nothing that blew my mind. Same with the drinks. The portions were big so that made up for it in my opinion. The place was packed so be sure to reserve a table ahead. We went on a Friday night and made the reservations on Wednesday so they aren't super hard to get but I definitely suggest getting one. Overall I gave this place a five star review, especially because the service was so good.

I highly recommend this place. My third trip here and introduced friends to it. All the food is amazing and hearty here. One of the few places you can get amazing cajun food. The staff is always excellent and attentive. Highly recommend this place.

My first time here was delightful. Morganne was great when asked about the choice between the grilled oysters Rockefeller and seafood potato, she steered me to the oysters. I was suspicious at a price of $42 but… was wonderfully surprised at the delicious large portions and flavors. The oysters are grilled on charcoal and it adds so much to the flavor. I could barely finish them. I also had the biscuits which were equally amazing. Morganne also made me a great hurricane. 5/5 experience I have heard they change their menu monthly. So come soon and often

We had reservations for a party of 10 last evening. We were seated pretty quickly, but we were seated outside and it was a very chilly evening! We asked our server ( I don't know her name) to turn on the heat lamp because we were freezing. She said yes of course, we’ll get that lit up for you and she takes the drink order. We are literally shivering, even the men are complaining about being cold. She comes back with drinks and we ask her again, please turn the heat lamp on. She says yes, we're working on getting that done for you right now. She starts to take our orders, but people have questions about the menu items, so she says that we are not ready to order yet, she's going to give us a couple of minutes, and she leaves. One of the men in our party goes inside and asks again if someone could turn the heat lamp on, they said they’d take care of it. The server is gone for about 10 or 15 minutes. In the meantime, I picked up my phone and call the restaurant and let them know that we are out here freezing to death, waiting for the lamp to be lit. Naomi, answers my call and turns around and looks right at me (she was at the entrance greeting and seating the guest) and immediately attempts to turn the heat lamp on. It took some work, but she got it going! We were very grateful for Naomi’s assistance. Our meals finally arrived kind of randomly, one out of the 10 of us received her food first. About 5 minutes later more food came out. The young lady who took our ordered kept saying things were coming out right, right now, but they weren't, but they weren't, some things never made it out. Needless to say, the service was terrible and she shouldn't have received a tip, but she did. I've eaten here, or ordered food to go on several occasions, this is not the norm. Our food was not as tasty as it usually. The wings were good, the Gouda mac and cheese was tasty. Some dishes were over seasoned(rabbit dish), and some were overcooked(catfish) however, I will give them another try because I know that they are better than this. The chef is amazing, that server is trash and Naomi saved the night! That’s all!

I came here for their happy hour as a solo diner and overall, it was okay! I ordered the 50/50 sliders and they were SO good. The meat was so tender and literally melted in my mouth. I was tempted to order a second plate. I also got the “Half the Chase” plate, which is a biscuit and two full chicken wings. Unfortunately the biscuit was pretty dry and flavorless. And the wings were salty. I wish I hadn’t opted to try this plate. I got the hurricane to drink and I enjoyed it. There was also plenty of alcohol in it. As for the service, it was okay. My waiter was also working the bar so unfortunately it was hard to flag her down when I wanted to order more food/another drink. I would definitely come back to try some of the other food on the menu. I love that they offer some rotating dishes and I can’t wait to try them.

The food and service was great. Abraham was amazing and on point! The food was flavorful and seasoned just right. The crawfish garlic parmesean wings were delicious. The blackend catfish Grits was tasty and the short rib Mac N Cheese was superb! The libations were good and my birthday lunch with my baby girls was memorable.

Ordered the grits, biscuits, and chicken and waffles for the Ohana. The chicken did not taste right as the oil it was fried in May have been old. The grits had only four small shrimp and the cheese in it tasted like cheezwiz. Flavors were not there whatsoever. One of my little ones was cold and asked to turn on the outdoor heater and the staff literally spent the whole time of us dining trying to figure how to turn on which ended up being mission unsuccessful.
