It is a small casual restaurant with cute images throughout, yes, dated, but best chicken soup. If you like a little spice, ask for spicy, it's only .50 cents more but its not overly spicy that it burns and you can't taste the food, unless you are sensitive to spicy food, just get regular soup, it's flavorful both ways. The cashier is efficient and professional. My husband ordered the machaca breakfast plate, he loved the scrambled eggs with shredded beef.

Google
It's true, they do have the best chicken soup in town! The food is absolutely delicious! I was in town for a week and ate at Lourdes three separate times. They are deserving of high praise, and I recommend eating at this restaurant. 😊

Google
Cashiers are stressed out they want you to order super quick or if you don't hurry up they turn around and they start something else while you are standing there!. And I like to consume at places that provide restrooms because you never know when you need a resroom I like to sit down and eat. But guess what? they literally denied you from using the restroom by posting a sign on the restroom door "CLOSED FOR CLEANING" WOW THE RESTROOMS MIGHT BE THAT DIRTY THAT TAKES HOURS. DAYS TO CLEAN THEM. I prefer the Lourdes inside the shell gas station on El Norte parkway. The staff there are super welcoming and they make the BEST CHICKEN SOUP!! YOU CAN NEVER GET IT WRONG! I came to the Escondido location because I happened to be in the area. The chicken soup was missing the cilantro and onion got few small pieces of avocado.

Ginny Smith

Google
Went for the soup... loaded with chicken, rice, onion, and cilantro... and again beautifully cooked broth. The music is a bit loud, but the ladies working there were singing along to the music and seemed pretty happy there which makes for a very positive vibe.

Honestly, I feel this place is overrated. Maybe at some point it was a phenomenal place to get good soup and tacos but it isn't anymore. For $5 a taco you're better off going somewhere else. I found every bite flavorless and I'm on a sodium reduced diet. If I can add flavor without sodium, this place should be able to do better.

Google
I ordered the famous chicken soup, was very disappointed! Not even ONE piece of meat in it! Plus for the smallest size with just 2 added corn tortilla shells came out to $13! They not only taxed it but added a 1.75 service fee! For what? All I did was place a to go order and picked it up! I will NEVER go back. They have priced themselves out of business

Google
We were very disappointed with this place. :( We were deceived by the 1000+ good reviews. Started with overcooked stale chips. We love chips and salsa and our whole group of 7 wouldn’t eat them. All the food was very mediocre. The guac is soupy, tasted ok. Supreme quesadilla was so wet my son couldn’t even eat it. Chicken flautas were ok, but got soggy very quickly because of the wet guacamole and sour cream. Rice and beans were bland. Carne asada burrito was dripping grease. The corn tortillas on the tacos didn’t taste fresh and the corn tortillas they served with the Chile relleno were wet and mushy because they were sitting in a plastic bag. Chile rellenos egg batter had so much flour in it it made it thick and chewy. We will not be coming back. Our hunt for good Mexican food continues.

Best chicken soup in San Diego! Just like moms

Yelp
My patient's wife brought this in for her husband & they were raving about how they have the best chicken soup around. I had to find out for myself! Okay, so, I did not end up trying their chicken soup but I most definitely plan on getting it next time. Their menu just had so many other dishes I wanted to try first. Quesadilla: I love when a taco shop uses white cheese, it just makes it way more tastier in my opinion! Chicken Flautas: Most taco shops serve flautas as a mini burrito but I love the flautas that are made like rolled tacos. Delicious shredded chicken inside a flavorful, crispy roll.

Yelp
Very small hole in the wall. From the outside you would not know the deliciousness that is inside. Was a chilly morning and we craved soup. Arrived right after it open. The place was clean and staff were friendly. However, the either has the A/C or the heater wasn't working, because it was freezing inside. No worries, we were having soup for breakfast. We ordered two chicken and rice soups and a shredded beef taco. The soup was hot and delicious. The best part is taking some of the chicken& rice & avocado and putting it in the piping hot tortillas they give you & making a chicken burrito. Slurp. The taco was good and the meat was clean, no fat. My only complaint on the taco was it seemed that there was more lettuce & cheese than meat. It was still tasty. This place better never close.

Yelp
I found this place from an online search for caldo (mexican soup) because I was feeling under the weather. This place prides itself on caldo de pollo, so I wanted to give it a try. The building itself is fairly unassuming - when I walked in the atmosphere was incredibly authentic. There were beautiful colorful paintings and decorations along the walls. I called in the order to go because I didnt want to get anyone sick, and the lady who answered my call was the one to check me out at the register when my food was ready. Fast and kindly service. When I got home, I opened up the soup and started to eat. The stock was really good, and there were big chunks of chicken. This is where I was disappointed- there was no chayote, carrot, corn, zucchini or potato. ONLY chicken, rice, three slices of avocado, onions and cilantro. It was quite empty as far as the usual caldo that I'm accustomed to. It still tasted good, but I thought that it needed a little more sustenance instead of being just mostly broth. Granted I didn't order any other item, so I can only review based on the soup - if I order more, I'll update the review. But for now, I unfortunately won't be ordering the soup again.

Yelp
Their chicken soup is seriously healing. Sick? Lourdes Cold day? Lourdes Hot day? Don't care, Lourdes! I typically order the soup online to-go, but the dine in experience is also nice. Super local Escondido spot with warm & cozy vibes inside. The soup is delightfully simple with broth, rice, generous amount of chicken, and topped with onion/cilantro/avocado. Asking for it "extra spicy" adds the perfect flavor boost in my opinion. Truthfully, their other food is only okay, but their chicken soup is so good that it still deserves the 5 stars. Staff is also very friendly. I will continue to be a regular here. :)

Yelp
I always enjoy the food at this location. One of my favorites is their California burrito which is carne asada, french fries, salsa Mexicana, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. The flavors are delicious and will satisfy your taste buds. Their fish burrito is lightly -battered fish, lettuce, salsa Mexicana, and guacamole. The flavors are on point and delicious as well. Their fish burrito staff is friendly and will help you with any of your questions.

Yelp
I travel 5 1/2 miles just for this soup! I will buy two large caldo de pollo (no rice) especially when I'm sick. Hands down, it's the best around here.
google avatar

Yelp
Best chicken soup in town!! Perfect for when you're feeling sick or need a pick me up.

Yelp
Los of free parking on the street and in their shaded private lot. Big plus in this area. Best of all to me is that Lourdes has the business sense to remain OPEN even on Mondays. We all get hungry for good food EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. we don't all magically decide to fast on Mondays. Why not five stars? They nickel and dime you here. Order their soup and dare ask for a tiny container of minced white onion? "That'll be an extra $4!" I am not joking. They claim to use NO garlic in house. For reals? No garlic anywhere in house? Even if I pay you an extra $4 for a little garlic? Oh lord.

Yelp
One of My favorite Mexican food spots in San Diego. Authentic and fresh, no one makes their mild salsa like they do. Everytime I go to Escondido this is where I eat. I crave their chicken tortilla soup sometimes and the shredded chicken quesadilla. My dad's first carne asada burrito ever in his life was from here!
google avatar

Yelp
Their chicken soup is amazing! Excellent customer service A must try! Especially the chicken soup! If you've got a cold the chicken soup will be your go to!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is always perfect, staff is always nice and quick! Little pricier than I'd prefer, but the food is worth it! Cute stop in Escondido! Love visiting when passing through.

Yelp
I order thru Uber eats a lot. I order the chicken soup. They never pack salsas and they have no way to ask for them. I selected "condiments on the side" thinking, since salsa is a condiment that they would pack it... but instead they put my onions on the side. Salsa is pretty much a given for any item on the menu, and I don't understand why they just don't realize this and put it in the orders.
google avatar

Rory R.

Yelp
The food was fine. Nothing that turned me off, and also nothing that made it "must go back" for me. What made this place memorable though, is that they messed up our order. We ordered five entrees, and somehow they charged us for and gave us six. I don't mind leftovers, but I'd rather keep that $17 in my pocket for my next meal out.

Yelp
TallGirl has a weeeee cold, so I popped in to the legendary Lourdes' for soup for her and a snack for me. She calls it "magic soup", and prefers it with no onions, extra cilantro and lime, with flour tortillas. The large bowl will usually feed her for lunch and dinner. Parking in the private lot was easy. I was in around lunch time, and the service was super quick!!!! I like that the food is packed to go, but you can also eat inside, they have about 16 seats or so inside. I love the murals :)

Yelp
I recommend if you are in the area but don't make the long-drive if you are expecting a life-changing meal. The chicken soup came highly recommended, so that's what I ordered for my first visit. Broth was ok, but I loved that it was very hearty, full of chicken, rice and perfectly diced onion, generous slices of avocado and cilantro. It comes with an enormous warm flour tortilla and you can just taste the love in all their hand/made tortilla products. I added on a beef taco for variety but the small caldo/soup would have been enough, with the corn chips and massive flour tortilla, for one hungry person. The beef taco was avg size and the filling was pretty good but the perfectly crispy hand made deep fried tortilla took it up a notch. I added a generous amount of salsa from the self-serve bar- green- had a good kick, and mild. I didn't venture to try the hot after tasting the medium green. I ended up making like 6 mini-soft-chicken-tacos with the giant tortilla and all the chicken meat and rice in the soup. I dipped them in generous amounts of green salsa for the perfect bite. Overall- easy parking and great service, reasonable pricing, so I am bumping it up from 3.5 to 4*. I will stop by to try the enchiladas next time.

Yelp
very disappointing. Tacos were very overpriced and not very impressive. I've had much better tacos in Escondido for half the price. No reason why someone should have to pay 25$ bucks for 3 tacos and a drink, seriously
google avatar

Merari G.

Yelp
Caldo de pollo the best in Escondido!!! Would definitely recommend it! You have to try it !
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
Short and simple: I Came for the Chicken Soup. Not a big chicken guy, but I do like my soups. Pricing is a little much, taste is unique for all the stuff thrown in, it's not half bad! Missing the wow factor in my opinion, but I do hear they have other good foods. The soup / broth just falls a little flat. A little watery. You can mishmash many things into one but it's the seasoning thats gotta make things pop! I can't pay what I did for what I got again, sadly. Nicely decorated place, though! Fake windows are cute.
google avatar

Yelp
The chicken soup is amazing! Whenever I'm sick or just in the mood for soup they are my go to!
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Best soup in all of California. Chicken soup is incredible. Try it. I'm not kidding, I'm a foodie and it will knock you out. Add a little hot sauce if you want. Delicious
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy burritos! Thanks for being open on Mew Years day. This will be our first of many visits this year.
google avatar

Tareyn W.

Yelp
The food has changed and is no longer what it was. Prices are so high for what you get. This was our go to place for the last 8 years. Never again.

Google User W.

Yelp
I have been going here for over 15 years. They have great soup and still do. Unfortunately they have implemented some obvious cost cutting policies that have made the experience worse. The chips have been changed to a new brand, and they are not great. You are only allowed a tiny little bag of carrots per order, even if you order 4 soups!! I love the food, but won't be going here nearly as often as my family and I used to.

Sarah S.

Yelp
You'll never get better chicken soup! I firmly believe it is a cure for the common cold, too! Fast service, great food, always a good experience.

Maria

Yelp
Happy to see that Lourdes is in Carlsbad Village. Best chicken soup ever. Not to mention their shredded chicken burrito. It's enough to split between lunch and dinner. And also their friendly welcome.
google avatar

Thomas A.

Yelp
I ordered a torta I told the girl no sour cream no mayo lo white stuff she looked at the menu and said it dosnt come with any. Well mine did haha they usually put it on if you don't ask. Anyway when I went back I received no apology they also didn't offer idk like a complimentary drink or anything. It is annoying and inconsiderate I had to drive all the way back the least they can do is apologize vs acting like nothing happened. Lame I just won't come to this one as often.
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
The chicken soup is still da best!! It comes with the choice of tortillas and we usually opt for flour, which come hot and chewy. We are long-time customers with a few favorites on the menu, including the chicken fajitas which are smothered in guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and cheese: crispy, flavorful and a good portion.

Rio F.

Yelp
Soup is bomb and it is quick service. We got the breakfast burrito and it was perfect to share with two people and we were able to take just a quick stop before a road trip here.

Janice W.

Yelp
Great chicken soup!!! It is the best especially on a rainy day! I haven't tried anything else because it is so yummy with chunks of avocado in it.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
This is the place. Authentic Mexican cuisine. We found out about Lourdes from some locals and haven't looked back since. If you're not familiar with their Tortilla Soup, you haven't lived yet! Delicious, fresh, made with care. Great to bring for all those sick people out there with the Flu right now! Sure to warm them up!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Al pastor burrito and carne asada nachos were extremely salty. The beef used on nachos was of inferior quality. The crispy chicken taco was not good. The shell was not crispy and was chewy. It didn't taste fresh.
google avatar

Freddy D.

Yelp
We love this place. Truly the Best Chicken soup around! We are willing to travel 100 miles for it and Some almond Croissants, from a nearby French bakery, on Grand.Their shredded beef, Machaca, is excellent as is, or with egg, con huevo. I guess we have been fans for around 15 years or more. They are busy as hell with delivery services, call in orders and walk ins. They have a few locations now, and it's understandable why. This visit on New Years day was status quo, I'd be disingenuous not mentioning the mild red and green salsas seemed watered down. The Bathroom, I know it takes one person to foul it, but this is just in need of a deep cleaning and then monitoring. I believe a 5 star is still in order..they seem well staffed which is a sign they are good to work for. A nice place.o
google avatar

Isabel R.

Yelp
I usually go to the San Marcos location (which is amazing) the caldo de pollo here was good just like the other location the grilled shrimp tacos weren't bad but wouldn't get them again the other location is tastier and also the soup was $2 dollars more here and the tacos were $3 more here per taco. For the taste and the price almost $7 for a taco I won't be coming back. The service wasn't great either. The place was nice and the vibe overall was okay. Altough for the price and the taste of the food we will stick to the San Marcos location it's cheaper and nicer and tastier.

Yelp
**October 2021 Visit ** This restaurant has been in my bookmarks for quite some time as I read some time ago that it was a must try spot in Escondido. Over the weekend I finally checked it off my list and this is definitely worth the hype. They're known for their chicken soup and have two size bowls S (24 oz) and L (32 oz). I inquired with the cashier if a Large would be enough and she said that she herself could not finish a large, so I ordered just that. The chicken soup comes with several slices of avocado on top and your choice of flour or corn tortilla, as well as a bag of tortilla chips. The total came out to $9.65. Within 5 minutes or so the soup was delivered to my table number. The chicken is moist (not dry or hard), and soup was seasoned very well. There is some rice at the bottom and I suspect flour tortilla helped made it a filling meal. Honestly, I wasn't really expecting much, but this was my favorite meal from the Escondido trip! It was just so comforting and light. I highly recommend you check this out!
google avatar

Graham H.

Yelp
The chicken soup here is the best!! Fast service and family friendly! Whenever I'm near here I must stop in for the soup! They have been in business since 1988.

Mary R.

Yelp
The best Chicken Soup Ever! I always pick up Lourdes soup for any family or friends who are sick, or just feeling down. It's a miracle worker
google avatar

Marco F.

Yelp
The food was good. I tried their seafood cocktails, ceviche tostada, and carne asada torta. I would recommend the first two as they were really good. Service was as quick as it could being that it was packed. Ambiance is very homey.

Yelp
The restaurant closes at 8:30pm! Yelp is wrong The soup is as great as it always has been! And they let me in to order even though it was already 8:33pm

Yelp
This weather has had me with a lingering cold that just doesn't seem to go away. I honestly had no idea about this place until a friend on Twitter suggested I get some chicken soup from here to help with my cold. Then another friend followed their comment and suggested the same thing. Needless to say I just had to try it. My sister Josy drove down an hour just to go pick up some chicken soup from this place. She mentioned the customer service was absolutely incredible and she was so impressed with how sweet and accommodating they were. Sra. Laura is who was printed on the order receipt as having helped her out. We will definitely be back and we will be bringing my mom! Anyways let's get back to the soup.... THIS CHICKEN SOUP IS THE MOST DELICIOUS CHICKEN SOUP!!! It makes me think of my moms chicken soup and how much I miss it. Big thank you to this place for having such a tasty option available while I'm sick. They just opened one up in San Elijo and I know it's going to be super successful. Make sure to check them out when you get a chance!

Yelp
FIVE STARS ! Flavorful food, nice service in a clean environment. This restaurant smells yummy the moment you walk into the doors. We hooked ourselves up with a heaping large bowl of Lourdes' famous chicken soup. It was perfectly spiced & soothing. Also tried the shredded beef tacos - flavor was spot on. Don't forget to ask for salsa, marinaded carrots & chips... they're free, but for some reason the salsa bar is closed (perhaps a remnant loss from pandemic days??). Our cashier was super nice & the wall murals & art are lovely. Always a pleasure to dine here!

Yelp
I accidentally called the one on El Norte because I was a regular, bur my dog was barking while I was talking to an inventor, disguised as a homeless person. I can SEE THROUGH THE SITUATION! Anyways, they make the BEST Chile relleno EVER!!!! Saving it for my munchies. Picture later.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
When I tell you I went to this place just about 4 days in a row... I'm not kidding Their caldo de pollo is sooooo good! It has so many flavors and comes with a heaping amount of chicken, rice, onions, cilantro, avocado, and flour/corn tortilla! (10/10 recommend dipping tortilla in soup) Only 4 stars become the online ordering system is pretty awful. Ordered a soup "plain" thinking that means I want it the way it comes. Instead, it meant that there is no spices, onion, cilantro, or avocado... pretty bummed after I drove 15 min back and they wouldn't remake my soup which was cold by the time I got home. They did however give me them as sides to add to the soup.

Vincent L.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place. Considering all the good reviews I was shocked that the food actually sucked, save for the soup which was indeed pretty good. The breakfast burrito we ordered was tasteless and their salsas were just standard blah jared crap. San diego county has sooo much exeptional mexican food, and this is not one of the places. The service was also slow and our order was wrong

Clyde G.

Yelp
It really is the best chicken soup in San Diego! I've been searching for a bowl to rival El Ranchito's in OC, and this is it!
google avatar

Leo C.

Yelp
People say this place has the "best" chicken soup and I don't disagree but it's no "caldo de pollo" with veggies and chicken on the bone. Personally, I prefer boneless chicken so I do like this place for some chicken soup. I recommend getting the onions on the side cuz they throw in raw onions and I'm not a fan. The broth has a good flavor, they have great flour tortillas, but I like the corn ones with soup better. But everyone else I go with prefer the flour ones. The flour tortillas taste more made made- the corn doesn't. It comes with rice too. I haven't had much of anything else because I like the soup! I'll need to adventure out next time.

Dan G.

Yelp
Food was average at very best, probably won't go back. Price was high in my opinion for what you get.
google avatar

Debera R.

Yelp
If you don't know, Lourdes you need to get to know them immediately. Their soup is known by every time escondido citizen. Chicken soup is always the best when you don't feel well and Lourdes chicken soup will not disappoint. I get the chicken soup for all my neighbors when they're not feeling well. And all our family members. It's just a small place. We usually take out but have sat there too, and they are very friendly and quick near me is always ready in minutes. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Vicki R.

Yelp
Ordered take out, very simple order , small chicken soup , California burrito. Picked up and brought home , burrito was as cold as ice , as if it's been sitting awhile. Terrible Terrible Terrible! Chicken Soup was good , but will never order anything else . Took burrito back to get a refund , girls that work the front , seem like there miserable, they were very rude . I would not recommend this place !

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on a hot day. Maybe their soup is great but not when it's 100+ outside. I had the chicken quesadilla, the chicken was wet and tomato sauce tasting, wasn't able to finish it. The staff were friendly though.
