The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, November 2020 | Eater NY

"I picked up maduros from our local Mexican deli and grill to balance a zingy, Cuban-style mojo pork, and the plantains at Lourdes were majestic — cut lengthwise into nearly-foot-long curvilinear slices that were wonderfully starchy, gently sugary, and toothsome alongside the fall-apart pork." - Eater Staff

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, May 2020 | Eater NY

"On Oyster Bay’s main drag I had tacos topped with hefty mounds of crimson chorizo or smoky adobada pork; simple garnishes of raw onion, salsa, and cilantro let the nourishing, affordable fillings shine and paired well with an ice-cold beer." - Eater Staff

New York State Restaurants Reopen for Outdoor Dining With Drive-In Theaters and More | Eater NY

"At Lourdes Mexican Grill, a great bodega serving classical Mexican fare, I saw a handful of people hanging around backyard patio tables without masks, sipping Heinekens while counter workers grilled excellent chorizo and adobada tacos." - Ryan Sutton

Had onions and peppers steak with white rice and black beans. It was ok. Onions wasn't cooked. Rice to meat ratio was horrible (Probably to make it look like a huge plate of food. But it wasn't. You can see how low the food is in that plate.) They was really cheap with the rice which is old that is cheaper than the meat. Not only that it was underneath the meat and veg. So not worth $15. Then plantains....wth??? What is that white stuff? I asked for garlic...that white stuff didn't taste like garlic at all...more like mayo. But they was sweet so to me the highlight of the meal was the plantains without that white stuff was really good. Then the samdwick was ok from what I was told.

When is the most beautiful places I eat at me and my aunt went there is Lily had a great lunch ain't got left over for today and had a nice drink she had a beer and like I said the portions were nice and fresh and good you cannot get a better meal for 30 bucks in your life like I said these big chain restaurants that is exactly how they cook and change one meal after another that is microwave and hand it to you they cook it for you fresh in your face while you wait beautiful view a shout out to Lourdes and and her daughters for running a comfortable beautiful place amen

Google
Delicious food, tacos, hot bar, everything’s fresh and well seasoned.

Google
This is my first review ever but certainly deserving of 5 stars. I have never actually been inside but outside there is always this gentleman on the bench smiling so I thought it would be deserving of 5 stars!

Google
This is a Mexican grocery store with a small kitchen and hot plate area. It is not a dining destination. The staff is friendly and the food fresh. If you have a craving for tacos, tortas or a quick ethnic bite, then stop in and get your fix. If you want ambiance, the colorful themes and all the fixings, go elsewhere.

Courtney C.

Google
Hands down one of the best places in Oyster Bay! The hot food was so good and the tacos were really good as well. Everything was fresh and tasty. They were all so friendly and welcoming. We loved sitting by the window and enjoying a delicious lunch.

Google
Taco and Burritos and everything on the Mexican Delight Menu is amazing. Great family owned small business always my take out go-to.

David C.

Google
Delicious burritos and super friendly staff. Small shop with a food counter and a few tables. Not fancy but clean and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely worth a try.

Dario E.

Yelp
Honestly the food is pretty good, but this place is notorious for not using gloves to prepare food, and when the owner serves the customers, she uses the same gloves that she collects cash with. It's happened to me more than once and I see it won't change. I will no longer patronize this establishment

Kimberli M.

Yelp
Highly recommend the guacamole! It comes in a chip/wafer basket with delicious chips. A definite crowd pleaser!

Yelp
Wonderful little hole in the wall Mexican market with some AMAZINGLY good home made, SUPER authentic meals!! It looks like most of their business is take out, but after much debate and the temptation to order one of EVERYTHING on their menu/in the display case, we settled for a sampling of some of their tacos, quesadillas, and shared a torta in their small, cozy dining area. Place your order and it'll be freshly prepared (there are also some pre-made choices available as well from their display, including some awesome looking soups...) and your meal will be brought out to you as soon as it's ready. Nothing fancy, but very good and VERY satisfying. VERY reasonable pricing, super fresh ingredients, and apparently a favorite of quite a few Hispanic locals, how can you go wrong?? BUEN PROVECHO!!!

Yelp
After reading the reviews, I had to try this little place out. I love hole in the wall Mexican places because they usually make really delicious food at a great price. Lourdes does exactly that! It's located next to where the old Snouders drug store was and you've probably driven by without noticing if you weren't looking for it. Lourdes is a deli counter, restaurant and grocery store all in one. My family was craving tacos so we ordered a bunch of them to share - chorizo, asada and adobada ($2.50 each). They were out of lengua and I was bummed I couldn't try it. But all of these tacos were very tasty, tender and juicy. The chorizo had a great spice to it and was a little crunchy which was a nice surprise! The vegetarian burrito was jam packed with rice, beans and broccoli. This dish also came with rice and beans for $6.50. We also ordered some fried plantains which were perfect. Overall, great food!! They have beer and wine to purchase and everything is paid for at the front counter (not full service). The staff is very pleasant and helpful despite the fact that we took a long time to figure out what to order! The woman who helped us behind the counter was so incredibly sweet. Make sure to support this business and stop by for some great food!!

Yelp
When I saw the photos, I knew this place was going to be my new favorite spot. The food was spot on but nothing could prepare me for the chaos of going inside. I felt like I stepped out of Oyster Bay and into a Brooklyn bodega, complete with a couple people standing around, drinking Coors Light and/or Gatorade. It's half restaurant seating, half lotto tickets/candy/soda. Delicious food. I hope they never change anything about this place.

Yelp
Seriously. Every now and then, I order from DoorDash and the order gets canceled. This was sheer incompetence. I placed an order at 7:55. The restaurant was open until 9. They accepted orders until 8:30. They took my order, took my money, and then canceled at 9:20pm. Guess how easy it is to get a meal at 9:20pm on a Monday? I ordered from here (for the first time) to support a local business. They don't get a second chance. I ordered a replacement meal from Chipotle. Thoroughly infuriating after a long day's work and feeling ill. I'm hungry AND mad, and won't get to eat before 10:30pm.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Homemade corn tortillas, homemade salsa, carnitas street tacos, and fried Yucca were authentic and delicious. The owner Lourdes was very nice and took time to serve us. Would definitely come again for authentic Mexican food.

Phil D.

Yelp
This pace is great. The people who work there are so no r. The food is fantastic. And the kitchen is very clean. Try the Baleada!!!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Have had take out from here several times now. We usually get the carnitas burrito. It's very good. Not spicy but very tasty. I usually have a hard time not overeating when we order from here.

Yelp
My son just did some fishing right nearby and we decided to stop by here to grab a bite. Luckily we did as this is cafe that serves daily essentials and have a kitchen. We got two rice prepared dishes. One was a chicken leg and crispy pork belly with yellow rice, black beans and salad while the other was a beef rib soup sitting on a bed of rice. Both were delish and price was decent. There is even a sitting area for eating and the workers are very friendly. Would recommend this place.

Yelp
Lourdes Mexicano is the former Taste of Mexico. More on the main road in Oyster Bay they have changed their name and moved and are across from Homestead Restaurant. They stated they have the same owner just a new landlord. I went in and found very ethnic appearing Mexican food. Rice, beans, plantains, pork, burritos etc... Tried a beef taco..... and asked them for a hard shell not the usual soft... so they fried a few corn tortillas while I waited and used one for mine. The guacomole was ridiculously fresh and good... made it fresh ... cilantro, tomato, salt, onion, but not fresh lime.... (a bottle of what looked like fake lemon juice!! I detest sodium benzoate in my seasonings! so I mentioned it to them.... lol) btw - the owner tells me they are back to using only fresh lemon! They are awesome! : ) They are very good cooks!! I liked this place for some reason.. Early 6 am to 11 pm... rain or shine they said. Interesting! their customers are mostly South American laborers and they have a loyal following... Took it to go.... The women behind the counter seemed interested in new customers... Always glad to try something new... I have to say the taco's surprised me! https://www.lourdesmexicangrill.com/

Yelp
Off the hook, first try and it was great. Delicious and flavorful, we'll definitely be back. Excellent burritos and tacos.

Yelp
If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. I wish yhat Yelp would stop pushing me

Yelp
I've been in the area for a long while and never noticed this place. Chicken and Beef burritos with side lettuce, beans, rice and guac for $8 bucks each? It's fresh and is great, what a surprise. Do yourself a favor. Stop in, ask to see a menu and order some food. You will be very happy. This is a take out place, but it's excellent Mexican and we will be back. To the staff at Lourdes: Please CLAIM this listing online. Right now your business is "unclaimed" and once you claim it online, more people will find you online which means better food and business for us all. Take 10 minutes to do this, trust me. Start at the following link https://www.yelp.com/biz/lourdes-mexican-grill-oyster-bay then click the "unclaimed" link to the right your business name, fill out the hours open and business information, etc. Uploaded a few images of the current menu to help us all out. - Update: they claimed the listing, more reviews coming in and the food gets better!

Yelp
Wow, what a discreet lil' pearl in Oyster Bay! My friends and I needed a quick bite before checking out the Oyster Bay Brewery but what we got was unbridled delicious Mexican food. My arroz con pollo, beans and chicken was insane. The chicken was falling off the bone tender, juicy and bestowed with a creamy sauce of homey vegetables. The rice was cooked well and the beans were excellent. ASK FOR THE GREEN HOT SAUCE - best hot sauce I've ever had; a peculiar bright spice with notes of lime juice, it was amazing. And I topped the meal off with my favorite - Tamarind Jarritos :))) This is also a convenience store but they have a small dining area. BANANAS 50 CENTS. They have all the Mexican drink specialties like Jarritos, Coke and Fanta (in the thin glass bottles made with cane sugar) and of course Mexican beer like Negra Modelo, Dos Equis, Pacifico & Tecate! Lourdes certainly isn't the Waldorf when it comes to aesthetics and flash, but you're gonna like the way you eat, I guarantee it

Yelp
I ordered the simplest Breakfast burrito to go. I sked the cashier to add the refried beans to it. I left and I ate the thing the beans were not in it. She asked if i wanted my receipt . I said yes and did not get it. the girl in the morning needs to pay more attention. She is lazy and horrible at customer service. I will never stop here again.

Yelp
Not a very good dining experience overall. When we sat down for dinner indoors, there were an abundance of flies. Outside seating in the back had an overall slipshod appearance. Food was mediocre at best (not well seasoned at all) and served in take-out containers. Multiple typos in the menu. Cheap fare overall but honestly would rather pay more for better quality food. Entered hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the dining experience but left feeling disappointed. At least the cashier was friendly and attentive.

Pola S.

Yelp
DISGUSTING and inedible, rotten corn (see photos) brown cilantro that's days past freshness, I have no words please just look at the photos and do not order for your own sanity unless you like food poisoning. This was also 50$ in the garbage. Also notice all the good reviews are 4+ years ago, raising the score. Look at the recent.

Yelp
Tacos were great and the person working the counter was very nice. The place does get packed so I advise to order ahead! Overall great food and good vibes!

Joan L.

Yelp
Restaurant owner tried to tell me this isn't mold.... I'm 8 months pregnant and am prone to food poisoning and unfortunately noticed this halfway into eating the bag. Even if this isn't mold, it's super stressful looking down and seeing this in your bag of chips when you're severely pregnant!!

Gina V.

Yelp
Awesome food. Love the tacos and empanadas. Friendly people. Great hours. Give them a try!

Yelp
Lourdes is the best Mexican food around. The female owner is so kind and sweet. She will help you with anything. They give generous portions of food. There is aityle shop to buy shampoos, conditioner, spices, eggs, etc., etc.,. Their open late too! Also, GREAT pricing!

Al F.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Food was not as ordered . Dry meat , missing items , tasteless !! Bland in taste. For all items . Sad meal !! Looked unappealing and tasted worse !

Yelp
Absolutely amazing Mexican restaurant/take-out in town. My family and I went together in hopes of finding quality Mexican food. That's exactly what we got. We ordered tamales, quesadillas, and chicken and more. Each portion came with a large amount of rice and beans. Staff was amazing and the outdoor seating is great. The owners were very nice and wanted to make our experience there great.
google avatar

Nick N.

Yelp
Feels like I just ate at home. The lady at the counter is nice and takes pride and is happy when she sees you enjoying your food. That alone will make me come back next time I'm around here. I encourage small business. I'd rather eat here than eat any chain competitor. Great experience.
google avatar

Dan Z.

Yelp
The food here is great. Make sure you call your order in or you will be waiting a while. Parking isn't great and it seems to be hangout for some local hombres. Its more of an authentic Spanish place opposed to mexican but every time I've been its been great.
google avatar

Susan A.

Yelp
A fluke that we found this place and we are now big fans! The papusas with beans and cheese are freshly made, crispy and addictive. Tacos are totally authentic and both the steak and chicken were delish. Burrito is STUFFED and enough for two people, and the rice and beans that accompany it are amazing. Best bang for your buck for take-out on the North Shore!

Yelp
Not quite what I was thinking of was my experience at this Oyster Bay bodega. Sign out front said Mexican restaurant and grill but this really is neither nor. It's essentially a small grocery store with a cook in the back. There was a fairly small selection of hot dishes and I opted for the mole chicken with yellow rice. I will say it was quite tasty and I enjoyed it a lot. The meat and potato empanada wasn't bad either. Also tried what I thought was fried fish with veggies but it turned out to be some funky omelette with fish in it. It was a misfire. There's a tiny seating area but we felt like intruders seeing as it was a locals hangout with a bunch of guys watching soccer. The employees seemed nice enough but prices were higher here than most bodegas I been to. Still cheap, but not the typical prices. Not sure if I'll be back any time soon but if you try this place out, they mole chicken is really good.

Yelp
My family ordered take out from here - burritos, tacos, and pupusas. Everything was delicious and made to order. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the owner even gave us some extra salsa on the side! He seemed really passionate about making sure we would enjoy everything and double checked that he got the entire order right. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Chelsea P.

Yelp
My family always orders from here!! It comes with alot of food for the price and tastes super authentic and fresh. Highly recommend if you are into REAL mexican food not fake american style like Taco Bell. I love ordering from here!
google avatar

Joanne F.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious Mexican food! Hands down best place on long island in regards to mexican take out. It's bodega style not a restaurant. If your looking for a restaurant experience this is not the place but if you looking for damn good food then make your way over!

Thomas C.

Yelp
Genuinely disappointed. Why all the high ratings for this place? Steak was pure fat and gristle. Peppers and onions were cut into massive slices. Beans straight from the Goya can off the grocery store shelf. Rice was lackluster.
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Sal, the owner, was so passionate about his business and unbelievably friendly. He explained the menu to us, let us know that the food is authentic and that the ingredients are prepared fresh every day, and even made suggestions on what to try. My wife loves Mexican food and the both of us were completely blown away by the quality. Well done!
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
This is essentially a convenience store, complete with doritos, cash register, and small grocery/bodega. It's definitely not a grill or restaurant. The food is not too expensive but there is no dining experience here. There is no A/C, at least on our trip. It has no waiter service. Rice and beans were good. But not a very comfortable experience with a lot of guys hanging out in front and inside drinking beer.

H F.

Yelp
Excellent, AUTHENTIC Mexican food! I'll never go to a gringo chain restaurant ::cough cough 'On the Border' 'Chipotle' cough cough:: again with this one so close to home. The portions are generous, the prices reasonable, the taste delicious. Even the sour cream seemed to have more zest to it than any I've ever had before. The place is small but tidy; the nice folks behind the counter are friendly and personable. There's even a little bodega behind the dining area if you'd like to take home some do-it-youself ingredients. I'll definitely be visiting Lourdes' again. :-)
google avatar

Barry A.

Yelp
This place is amazing I go in to buy food or something else and the staff is very nice there always joking around with me I like coming here
google avatar

Lilly M.

Yelp
Great little spot, authentic tacos and Mexican food. The staff is super friendly and the price is good...overall a great place!!

Tammy E.

Yelp
Like every other reviewer, this place is my favorite hidden gem. Food is always fresh, consistently delicious and prepared at light speed. Plus, the location just adds to the charm. You actually feel like you're not in Long Island when you visit but somewhere south of the border. Staff is friendly and hey, if you need a quart of milk, it's one stop shopping while you support a local business! And this is a local business that's worth supporting!

Liz W.

Yelp
Love this place! Best menudo I've ever had- nothing but tripe and soup bones with the cartilage super tender in a mouthwatering broth. I crave this for days. Rice and black beans so good i think they must lace them with crack. Have yet to get there early enough to try the oxtail...

Dan D.

Yelp
Amazing! Authentic mexican food. Fresh guacamole. I always order the burritos which are great. They come with rice beans sour cream and guacamole on the side. Great bang for the buck.

Drew L.

Yelp
This a little gem in downtown Oyster Bay. You don't go here for ambience, you go for the excellent food. We typically take our orders to go, though there is a dining area if you want to eat there. Kudos to the ladies behind the counter who make fantastic food, at a reasonable price. We have liked everything we have tried here and we are lucky to have it so close to our home. If you like fresh, delicious authentic Mexican food, and don't need the ambience of a fancy restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

Anonymous P.

Yelp
Every time I've gotten a burrito it's been a little different, but I have had the BEST chicken burrito I've ever had here. Just have to get lucky I guess lol. Not exactly a 5 star restaurant but I'm very happy we have this place in town! They're very fast too

Erik K.

Yelp
Best authentic Latin food in the Oyster Bay / Glen Cove area but there isn't much competition this side of Northern Blvd.
