Decades-Old Peninsula Grocery Store Country Sun Is Closing Permanently | Eater SF

"Closing on October 28, Lou’s Drive-in in North Highlands has been a mainstay for shakes and fries since 1958; owners Leilan and Robert Kitchens tried to negotiate a building purchase with their landlords at 6229 Watt Avenue but were unable to reach an agreement, and, as Leilan Kitchens told The Bee, "money was just too tight to keep prices affordable." - Dianne de Guzman

We were sad to hear that Lou's was going to be closing not to long ago. But we were extremely happy they were able to stay open. Love this place. Would 100% rather spend our money here than a jack in the box or mcdonalds.

There’s “hole-in-the-wall” bars and there’s “hole-in-the-wall” burger joints. Lou’s is absolutely just that. It might not be as fancy and sparkly as an In&Out but the burgers more than compete. The shakes with fresh fruit and syrups … FAR SURPASS the 3 little options at other burger places. As for the fries… we know that other place has them “animal style” to cover up the fresh cut but limp and bland flavor. The owners are there most days but all the staff are great. They know their regulars by name but greet everyone like family.

The same awesomeness we've enjoyed for years and years.. like decades..we have driven from wherever we live at the time like today from meadowview @ I5... well worth the drive..old school soft serve ice cream cones.. vanilla is my favorite..my friend always gets the chocolate vanilla twist... I highly recommend.

Cool spot in Sacramento with a little retro vibe to it. I got the double burger and it was great! The sauce they use is phenomenal and I liked the diced onions vs onion slices a lot of burger places do. I'll be back!

This burger joint is a walk up burger joint. It’s a community staple you can eat outside. There’s no inside dining. It’s good old traditional giant burgers homemade cooked fresh when ordered 10 out of 10.

This was my first time here and I’m already planning on going back! The burgers are great and for a great price as well!

First time experience was awesome. Excellent burger, classic Roadside Diner, no available interior seating or bathroom, gets really busy especially Saturday noon, early afternoon. Plenty of parking. Really amazing burgers and fries. Highly recommended

$12.60 for a single patty Bacon Cheese Burger that was paid for in cash. No drink, no fries. There is a $1.50 up charge if you use a card to pay. It's another $4.50 if you want to add small fries. It's ok, but not worth what they are asking at all!
