"A sushi restaurant near Berklee College of Music will get a sibling next week, but the spinoff will be a little different. Where Love Art Sushi focuses on sushi and poke bowls, its new counterpart Love Art Udon (1024 Commonwealth Ave., Boston) will serve noodles and tempura starting Monday, November 5. The restaurant plans to be open from noon to 8 p.m. that day. Founders Ronald Liu and Jessica Chiep took over the former Angora Cafe space earlier this year, and now they’re ready to unveil their new spot. “The decision to expand into something different than Love Art Sushi has a little bit to do with our short attention span but mostly to do with our desire to bring something new to Boston,” Liu previously told Eater. The menu at Love Art Udon will consist of customizable Japanese noodle bowls with influences from Hawaii and a little bit of Boston, in a counter service-style format. Customers will start with a scratch-made Japanese udon noodle base and can choose from a handful of broths (including soy dashi, Japanese curry, and vegan miso, among others) or go without broth. There are optional protein additions like niku (shaved steak with onion), as well as assorted toppings, to make for a wide array of flavors with both meat and vegan-friendly options. Love Art Udon even has a New England clam chowder bowl with potato and onion. A second focus of the menu will be tempura, with options ranging from asparagus or sweet potato to shrimp, spam, or potato croquettes. Diners can also order sides of seaweed salad, sesame mushrooms, or pickled vegetables. To drink, Love Art Udon will serve matcha, green iced tea, and a passionfruit (or lilikoi) fresca." - Dana Hatic

"Love Art Udon will focus on noodles while carrying on the model of customizable, counter-service meals. The main focus is Japanese udon, with a touch of Hawaiian and Bostonian flare, including spam and 'chowdah,' which he likened to an Alfredo pasta dish." - Dana Hatic

I came here with a couple friends, including one very picky eater. Everyone was able to find something they loved because the staff was happy to answer questions and make the substitutions we requested. I was especially happy that I could add corn to my meal with no additional cost. My friends were thrilled by the delicious, thick Udon noodles. Overall, I thought the staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was friendly and energetic. The counter seating would make Love Art Udon a great place to get lunch by one's self as well.

Atmosphere is very modern, art painted on the walls. Space is clean with high ceilings. The noodles are cooked well and served up pretty quickly. Spicy miso broth was much spicier than expected but still tasted great. The only complaint I have is the menu is somewhat misleading because they don’t mention having two different sizes. Otherwise, worth the visit.

I had there cold zaru udon. I thought it was decent. Their noodles were fine and the dipping sauce was not bad. Nothing too impressive though. The shrimp tempura was a little hard and tough, probably because it was sitting there for a while. They have other very interesting, non-traditional udon as well, but I stuck with the orthodox stuff, so I'm not sure how those are. Service was quick and friendly, and the interior had a cool vibe.

Ordered delivery from here and it was so good. I built my own bowl with curry soup and beef and onion. It was delicious!! The udon noodles are amazing. Can’t wait to order again.

Place is really new and hip looking. Service was super friendly and the portions were huge! Plan to spend around $11-15 per person (not bad imo for how much food you get). Would absolutely recommend for a casual date, solo study meal, or outing with friends. All around exceeded expectations. Pictured is the original udon bowl.

Who would have thought udon goes well with sukiyaki taste beef? They figured this out. It was good for cold rainy day- I wish the Beth was warmer to serve!
