The Best Takeout Meals Houston Chefs Ate in 2020 | Eater Houston

"My husband’s birthday was right after the shutdown, and we got pizzas and cocktails to go from Love Buzz and ate them on our tiny back patio — I’ll always remember that humble little celebration." - Amy McCarthy

Google
Sorry Love Buzz, but this bar fell way short of my expectations and false reviews. I was looking for a new place to "check out" but this was not what I had in mind. Review claimed "live music " entertainment, this is what caught my attention. But as we entered the doors, we were the only ones in there (besides another couple) with no live music, no music whatsoever, adding to uncomfortable silence, no TV to watch the NFL games. Oh, it gets better, the beers & drinks were overrated (plus tax & gratuity fee schedule, plus service charge fee, if paying with card) and not at their coldest. Overall I would say, check it out for yourselves, as there are many bars in that area, kind of cool, to walk around and do some bar hoping, (reminds me of the good 'ol days of the Juarez Strip) and experiencing different vibes.

I went to Love Buzz for a rock show. The staff was all friendly and the vibes were great. The sound is about what you'd expect for a small venue. It's a tight space, but perfect for an intimate show experience.

I just moved to El Paso a little over a week ago, and I am already very lonely for my friends back home. I decided to venture out for happy hour, and saw Love Buzz was just over a half mile from me. I was the only customer there for a while; only a band doing sound check. Later, a few couples came and sat in the outdoor area, which was amazing! I will be back with my dog. Being that I was alone and the only person at the bar, I was able to talk with the bartender, Joe, who was very nice. As was the young lady who came in later. I feel bad that I’ve forgotten her name. They both told me that dogs are encouraged, which I love. I had a really good time, and I’m so glad I decided to get out and about. Love Buzz will definitely be “in the rotation” while I’m here!

Such a wonderful and vibey outdoor patio out back. They play amazing music, have a local woodfire Pizza pop up on the regular, and it's a nice venue to see a show. We were able to stand outside and have a good view of the stage without cramming in with everyone. Definitely best to find out when there's music playing, otherwise it can sometimes be a ghost town even on the weekend.

Mexican Bartender thew drinks at me because she did not agree with a personal conversation I was having with a friend, incredibly disrespectful she then called her white female “manager” who proceed to attempt to kick me out for 0 reason, incredibly liberal spot and I’m not even political, I wouldn’t be surprised if they add a bigger tip to my bill.

Our first visit here, but definitely will return. Very courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient bartender. Great selection of drinks. We tried a number of whiskeys and mixed drinks. Spacious, well-lit, dog-friendly patio with plenty of seating. Delicious food truck meals. We had the brisket flautas, tripitas tacos, and ceviche. Several local artists selling prints, buttons, etc.

The best bar to frequent in the 5 points area! Great booking musical talent and a very spacious backyard to hang out

I’ve been here twice, and enjoyed it both times :) my only suggestion would be if they were able to expand the inside venue…? I’m not sure how they’d do that, but I only say this because it’s soooo crowded. Outside is nice! I love the patio! And their quirky little vending machine back there in the corner. The bar staff are great, very friendly. The bathrooms are….awkwardly placed, and single stalls. At least for the women they are. But it wasn’t gross in there! So that’s a huge plus. My second time was during Emo Night. And I LOVED it. All the throwbacks. Omg. Only way to make that experience better would be if I had a date—but that’s on me! Haha. This place is pretty solid :) I’d go again.

Yelp
No good value for tacos, only two for $14. Wish they were more and taste better. Won't come back

Yelp
Wonderful drinks and ambience. Had a first date and I guess it's good luck too :) loved it!

Yelp
The Bloody Mary I ordered was delicious, it was prepared from scratch and not from a bottle. Love the environment it is my first time here and there are so many seating options available.

Yelp
Love Buzz is more on the chill side of bars, very hipster/rocker diver-bar ambiance. Live rock bands usually on Fridays but sometimes they have electronic music too. Large patio and good beer & shot combo specials. Definitely a good place to start a chill night of bar hopping.

Yelp
Was looking for a bar close by where I was staying for the weekend. Me and my friend ordered a scorpion bowl each and was informed that they were $20 each and agreed to pay it because we really wanted one. Seems really over priced for the average taste. Also all they had pens and receipts in the scorpion bowls. It looked like they hadn't been used in forever. Thankfully they washed them first. They played 80s music all night which was odd but I appreciated it. It had nice low lighting. I like the different colored lanterns and the lightbulb chandelier. Seems like a nice dive bar and We had a good time.

Yelp
Cool place with some promise. Just needs more people. Went in on a saturday night around midnight and closed the place down. Bartenders provided prompt service. Drinks were solid. Decent variety of types of people in crowd (hipsters, goth, biker, etc). It follows the house turned into a bar template (i.e. Monarch and Boomtown) and is located just down the street from Pershing Inn. When you enter you have a small room with neon lights. Bar is right next to door (for immediate access). There's a second room adjacent to it but no one really hangs out in there. Instead foIllow the path outside where its bench style seating. They have heat lamps out there which is a very nice touch. Hard to imagine the place getting crowded since the outdoor patio/lawn is pretty big but indoors gets a little tight. Decent place for a group outing if you are more in a chill mood.

Yelp
The outside reminds me of a typical dive bar out of the 80s. The decor on the inside is very divey with a questionable dirty/sketchy couch. Not really sure what the theme is other than old and run down. Our first bartender was very friendly and attentive. She poured/made drinks well. We didn't order anything fancy, but I've had bartenders mess up a Jack Honey and Ginger Ale before. The second bartender was nice, but not attentive at all. I was not a fan of the music being played. Not that I expect to love all the music in a bar, but I was hoping to like/sing-a-long with at least one tune. I was bummed that the jukebox was out of commission. We were told it normally is up and running, but the vendor hadn't been in to service it.

Yelp
Nice digs, horrible service. I've been here 3 times and every time I've had to wait a butt load for a friggin' beer. It wasn't "bumpin" either so what's the excuse? My first visit the bar tender Pam accused me of running a tab without paying, which was a complete lie. Plus, how dare she accuse someone when it was her own fault for not doing her job? Luckily for her, my good friend works there and he was able to clear things up before I did. Anyway, the spot is real nice. I really do like the patio. But it seems like the owners are more concerned with the aesthetic of the bar as opposed to service. The crowds have been either a bunch of goth, fag-hags or rockabilly has beens whose girlfriends think you want their man. Gross. Also, out of the 3 times I've been there I haven't seen the jukebox work at all. Wasn't that part of the shtick? Overall, I do wish them a lucrative business but not on the account of my hard earned money.

Yelp
This place is a nice little dive bar. Chill atmosphere and very awesome bartender. Check out the back patio if you bring a large group.

Yelp
What a great find! You walk into a very hip/retro bar with eclectic decor ranging from 1950's futuristic star logos to 1970 round modern chic TVs. There's an 8mm projector in one corner, not sure if they use it or just cool decorating. The big surprise is when you head out back. The patio is huge, plenty of seating. There's a food truck in the back that is legit! The wood work, benches, pergolas, and cedar fence with PVC Pipe planters (you gotta see these) is first rate. This place should be on everyone's hit list. Met the owner Austin. Nice guy and says that have lots of events planned. We will be back!

Yelp
This is a cute little bar. Friendly and attentive staff, good beer variety, and a pleasant atmosphere. I always feel very relaxed and content, no matter how casual I'm dressed.

Yelp
Lovebuzz is a charming, low key dive bar! I've never seen it super busy, so its perfect if you don't like crowds. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful. They have great drink specials, a wonderful back patio area and a food truck on site. This is definitely one of my favorite bars in El Paso!

Yelp
Love this BUZZ! We were greeted by a friendly bartender and the typical Christmas patron on Christmas Eve. I aired my grievance on the Festivus wall and took our Seinfeld stickers. We stuck to the Elbo Room (formerly the name of the joint) but were mightily impressed with the back patio. The patio bar, taco truck, and fire pit were not needed but filled our vision of future visits. Props to the folks who built the pipe succulent gardens and irrigation system! Straight outta Pinterest. Fully stocked bar and a handful of carefully selected draft beers.

Yelp
I love this place and was so excited to discover it's in my neighborhood. The bad reviews made me laugh because it's clear that this bar just isn't for those people. Fancy people should look for fancy bars. This is a locals place, for sure. The decor is thoughtfully vintage. I would say it's hipster-divey (if it's possible to say the word hipster in a positive light). As the daughter of retired sign-painters, I really appreciate the old signage. The prices are good, the bartenders relaxed and friendly, and there is plenty of space. (I personally like that it's never overcrowded, though I saw that's the reason someone gave a bad review). There is a taco truck out back that is good but over-priced.

Yelp
I have to say this place doesn't look like much from the outside but on the inside it is really something special. There is so much room in this place whether you're outside or inside. The bar is stacked with crafts i had never seen before. There was so much variety i had to order by how the label looked instead of the type of beer. Great Divide Brewery turned out to be my favorite and they had more than a couple different beers from that brewery. The atmosphere is nice and quiet with the music selection to match. The decorations are pretty cool with old radios and monitors. The couch by the bar is pretty comfortable by the way. The back patio is huge and it has a lot of seating. Right now the heaters are really saving the day and there's a smaller outside bar with some selection. I heard the best days are Wednesdays at this place but i haven't made it out yet. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and even let us sample quite a few new beers they have received. This place is young but i think its the type of scene that is gaining popularity here in El Paso. It will definitely be here to stay.

Yelp
From the outside, Love Buzz does not look promising ~ but once inside, this little bar has a lot to offer. The seating is welcoming & almost like you've stepped into a familiar, warm place. Neat little nooks of tables, sofas, & old school booths. A pretty patio & yummy cocktails. I didn't experience the food truck, but it's Valentine's tacos on Mondays.

Yelp
The staff/owner are really down to earth. The drinks were good as well as the live bands that were playing that evening. The outside is a nice chill kick back with a taco truck in the back! Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
About a year ago I went to Love Buzz with a few friends and ended up having my night completely ruined by staff and management. My card was being charged numerous drinks and constantly being opened and closed by another patron. When I closed my tab and noticed the error, I brought it to the staffs attention and instead of them helping me resolve this, they figured that the best idea was to call me a liar and throw me out of the bar. I had to involve to police in order to resolve the issue and only then did they own up to their mistake. I decided to share my experience on Yelp and let people know to be wary of their tabs. I had completely moved on from this up until today when I received this private message from what I assume is management. If you provide bad service, you should expect bad reviews and take it as a step to improve said service. The last thing you should do as a business is tell the customer you wronged that you are disappointed in them for damaging their name. If anyone has damaged a businesses name, its the business itself for not providing good service. Ugh I hate being this person but this is very upsetting.

Yelp
Great service! Alex really took care of us! I dig the retro vibe, very different. It was a nice touch to see the vintage jukebox working. I do wish they would play some more contemporary music from time to time though..

Yelp
Very retro.....a little dark for me inside. The patio is beautiful. They have a food truck there also. Good grub!

Yelp
Been here about 3 times and each time was more enjoyable than the other. If you're looking for something different than the club scene, then this upscale dive bar should definitely be on your list. Nice patio outside for smokers and big groups. One of the few places I know that actually has Green Flash! One of my favorite beers! The only thing that kept it from 5 stars was the rest room, if wanna take a dump hope you're not shy if someone watches you.

Pam L.

Yelp
Rude staff. Rude owner. Gross bathrooms, so dirty and they ran out of toilet paper 4 times during the night. Soap was in a bag laying on the sink. Over priced drinks. Terrible sound, so much feedback all night. Drink anywhere else instead.

Alex F.

Yelp
My favorite bar in El Paso. All of the bartenders are incredibly friendly, the drink specials are on point, and the ambiance is cozy and welcoming. Also, there is an incredible taco truck in the back that makes the best tacos I've ever had. Lovebuzz is indeed home of the love, and the buzz!

Yelp
This place really gets it. It's like a grown up dive. Upscale but not pretentious. Grungy but not seedy. It's just the right balance. Has a great sense of place -- nothing like it in the rest of the city. The place is so spacious -- with a huge patio and two rooms inside yet it doesn't lose intimacy because there are so many dark little nooks to talk and hang out. The drinks are reasonably priced and it's amazing to day drink there on a nice day in the patio. I also really like the diversity of the crowd: people in suits straight out of work for happy hour sitting next to (hate to use this term) hipsters. It's a really fun vibe. The food on Fridays and Saturdays is actually really good, too! That fried chicken taco is rad.

Sofia R.

Yelp
Great hang out place for cocktails, drinks, and live music. Usually one bartender. Sometimes two on a Saturday. Wait time for a drink is not long. The patio is big, and the downside is the food truck service. They serve tacos, tortas, flautas, etc., but every time I order food the service is really bad. The employee who is cooking is not friendly at all, both female or male, and yesterday 7/7/18 the male cooking did not acknowledge us for about 5 minutes. He was making Tripitas and as he was placing the meat onto the tacos, with the same gloves he grabbed car keys, and then stepped out and opened a back patio wood door, and came back with the same gloves and continued to prepare food, then asked "Are you ready to order?" and 1 second later says "No, okay!" And turns around and continues to cook. We said "no thank you" And walked away. That is Very unsanitary and bad customer service. Hope those people that ate the tacos didn't get sick!

Abraham M.

Yelp
Worst service ever, the bartender was very snobby and hipstery. Paid $13 for 2 warm beers and the guy was still a mamon about everything. Horrible.
