Leaving DTLA for West LA wasn't easy, and from a food perspective aside from tacos it was the coffee shops that I knew I was going to miss the most. Tilt Coffee Bar, Kindness & Mischief Cafe, and countless others were a thread throughout my week for years, and I just wasn't sure that I was going to be able to find replacements for those staples here in West LA. Fortunately, I found Good People Coffee as an anchor, and I was beyond excited to add Love Coffee Bar to that rolodex of top tier coffee shops on the Westside.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
There are coffee shops that are designed and built for replicatable efficiency and there are coffee shops that are designed to reflect their local communities. Love Coffee Bar is very much the latter, with and kindness and quaintness that's welcoming and conducive to either work out back or a chat with a friend. Star.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
I'm not an everyday coffee drinker - not even close, but hot damn do I love me a specialty latte, and Love Coffee Bar has what is quite possibly the best collection of specialty coffee drinks that I've ever seen. They're cute, they're unique, they're on rotation, and they're only between $5.50 and $6.00 each, which is a fair price. Small sandwiches are a bit more expensive at $7.00, but not at all unreasonable. Star.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cappuccino? S'moretado? Are you kidding me? These are gold, absolute gold, and I love every second of my latter drink fully decked out with graham crackers. The sandwich, while a bit basic sure, was equally satisfying, and I could have stayed here all day. Two Stars.
Star 5: Would you be excited to go back?
Love Coffee Bar is now a staple. Star.
