The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"This bright, breezy coffee shop puts Rome’s many old-fashioned breakfast bars to shame. The interior’s all pale wood and creamy hues, with a pastry case packed with French and Italian style pastries—a refreshing change from the standard Roman cream-filled buns. The place smells like coffee, which is made from single-origin beans selected and roasted by Rome’s Aliena Coffee Roasters. They do a mind-blowingly strong cortado and the flat white is probably the best we’ve had outside Sydney. It’s one of the few places in Rome that do pour-overs and cold brews. Pastries are delicate and French in style, with layers of flaky, buttery pastry. Owner Gabriele is a croissant connoisseur, but his repertoire extends to apple pain Suisse, matcha cream-filled buns and chocolate cookies. They also do a very good focaccia with olives and sundried tomato." - Maresa Manara

The 38 Essential Rome Restaurants

"The quality of pastries and coffee served around the Vatican Museums entrance is notoriously abysmal. Or at least it was until Love Specialty Croissants opened a few blocks north of the busiest place in town. The pastry case is loaded with French- and Italian-style laminated delights, both savory and sweet, while the caffeinated beverages are derived from single-origin beans selected and roasted by Rome’s own Aliena Coffee Roasters. Pastry and coffee worlds collide in the Moon Love, a flaky pastry crescent filled with coffee cream and topped coffee crumble and more cream." - Katie Parla

I came across this café about 15 minutes from the Vatican and it turned out to be one of the nicest stops of my trip. I tried the croissant with cream and it was outstanding fresh, soft, and full of flavour, probably one of the best pastries I’ve had in Rome. I also had two coffees, an Americano and a flat white, and both were excellent. The Americano was smooth and rich without being bitter, while the flat white had a creamy texture with a perfect balance of milk and coffee. You can tell they put care into every detail. The café itself is bright and modern, with big windows that bring in natural light and create a relaxed atmosphere. It feels like the kind of place where you can take a break from sightseeing or sit down to work for a while. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Even though I only tried one pastry this time, the quality left a strong impression and makes me want to come back and explore more of the menu. This is definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re looking for excellent coffee and pastries near the Vatican, away from the usual tourist places.

The pastries were wonderful we tried one filled with plums that was excellent, and the coffee was great too. The service came with a warm smile and was very pleasant. The only downside was that there were no almond or soy milk alternatives. Since I avoid regular milk, this took away a bit from the experience, as it feels only natural to enjoy a coffee guilt-free alongside a pastry. The coffee itself was tasty, but having to settle for something I normally wouldn’t drink slightly overshadowed the overall enjoyment.

This might be one of the best places I’ve had breakfast at during all these years of living in Rome. The staff are incredibly polite, respectful, professional, and kind—always welcoming and truly hospitable. The quality of the croissants was outstanding, and even the coffee was excellent, with a unique taste that set it apart from other places. The atmosphere was absolutely lovely and cozy, but what impressed me most was the owner’s respect and care for customers. Why? Because every single detail—big or small—had clearly been chosen with thought and taste, perfectly matching the style of the place. I wish I could give more than five stars! I truly enjoyed having breakfast here. Congratulations to your strong and professional team, and thank you. I will definitely be coming back again ❤️

The most delicious croissants, cappuccino, and excellent service! You can even pick where your espresso beans are from! Ate breakfast there both mornings in Rome. The venue is super cute and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Table service and takeout available. Just a short walk from the Vatican. Highly recommend making time to add this stop to your itinerary if traveling. Would definitely eat here regularly if I lived nearby. They also have special croissants that switch out daily. We tried several kinds both days and LOVED every one of them. Pure perfection!

Reached 10am with long queue and some of the pastry like “moon love/ croissant” are sold out. Better arrive earlier to enjoy more variety of pastries! There are 2 queue before entering to the cafe: dine in / takeaway If you are not in a rush, I would suggest to queue for dine in as u can enjoy brunch hot food others than pastry. Takeaway will take as same time as queuing in dine in too, cuz some of the customers take away coffee and it needs time to prepare for it. I love their service and pastry, will be back again when o returned Rome!

The service was excellent. They are very friendly. We ordered two chocolate croissants and two maxi capuchino's and they were the best we've ever tried. The level of detail is amazing, from serving you a full bottle of fresh water free pf charge up to giving you an information sheet about the type of coffee you ordered. I would recommend 10/10 and definitely go back if I have the chance!

Perfect croissants and great coffee. Came here with my mom after visiting Vatican museums in the morning. There was a line to enter , but it moved pretty fast and it was definitely worth it. Pastry is fresh and very good. When we were leaving there was no like anymore so I think it depends on time when you arrive

Had a great breakfast here while saying around the vatican/prati area. Delicious pastries and the coffee was perfect (as not a big coffee lover). Also loved that they had a vegan bun on the menu, though I didn’t try it. Have to add that we went back multiple times during our trip as it was so good and the staff there were so lovely, we had a lovely waitress who gave us fabulous recommendations which were delicious each time!
