The Chinatown bubble tea shop’s huge drink menu is a mixed bag - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The menu at New Love Tea in Chinatown is overwhelming and inconsistent. There are over 100 drink options with a pretty even split between milk teas, fruit teas, and smoothies (along with a sprawling list of toppings like grass jelly and boba). Focus on any of the smoothies and fruit-based teas instead of the milk tea options that taste artificial. The food menu—basically a footnote compared to the encyclopedic drink list—is more steady. Go for the popcorn chicken, which is always juicy with just the right amount of batter and can be easily shared with at least two people. New Love Tea isn’t worth a special trip, but if you’re in the area, it’s a solid stop. There are a handful of tables, and if those are full, you can always claim a bench on Columbus Ave." - Patrick Wong

[Very poor service] If you value your sanity, don’t come. If you enjoy rough service and being walked over, by all means, this is your holy grail. The server did not inform that the boba is not included even when the photos showed. When asked, she became confrontational and insisted that that we did not request, making no attempts to make the situation better. We said we’ll pay for toppings at which point she then informed that boba was sold out. She sneered at our request about what toppings are available and quote “you want toppings in hot drink?” Refused a refund. At this point it was easier to walk away and keep our peace than argue, clearly this is old-school take it or leave it service.

Nice ambiance, convenient location, competitive prices, and the store was clean. I really liked the snacks, especially the popcorn chicken. Teas were average, with tapioca on the chewier side. The selection of toppings was pretty good. Customer service was courteous, but it would have been better if the staff wore a mask.

I been in the area for a long time, it used to be a ice cream/ candy shop then it changed to a gelato shop before becoming a boba shop. They have a vast menu consisting of hot/cold drinks, specialty drinks, made to order snacks etc. I always leave satisfied thanks to their friendly and well trained staffs. I always stop by for something good when I am in the area. I recommend this place for boba enthusiasts or if your looking for a laid back spot. I definitely will be back!

On a hot summer day I walked in, withering away from the heat wave outdoors. Before me I saw standing four other patrons, also escaping from the heat to obtain some iced boba tea… Alas, I thought, I will be waiting forever… But I stood for barely five minutes, before my savior in the form of rose milk tea came to my aid! If you prefer it less dramatized: Hot day, walked in to get an iced milk tea. The place was pretty busy, I thought there’d be a long wait—but the lady behind the counter was so quick, she took care of all four people ahead of me and then completed my order in under five minutes. Respect!!! There are a ton of flavors and items on the menu so I’ll have to come back and try more. This place is also pretty clean and though I have not used their restroom, it seems like there is a restroom in the back.

Google
The tea place is cute and clean. We only get to try one drink - mango fresh milk. It’s nice that they have sago as an add-on so we got that. The drink is delicious. Service is fast too, not too long of a wait.

Super fast service both times I went. Adorable cups and the drinks taste amazing.

Google
Bubble tea is decent here. We walked for a whole morning and decided to stop here for a drink and some rest. They have lots of choices to ensure there is something for everyone. Great and quick service and the interior is clean. A nice resting stop.

Google
Their drink is good! Relatively fast service! They have not opened for dine-in! After ordering, you would need to wait outside to be called till your drink is ready…… But it looks like a great environment place! Pretty umbrellas decorations under the ceiling!

Yelp
The food was Amazing expect the popcirn chicken when it gets cold. The pot stickers were bussing. Packed with alot of flavor you don't need the sauce they give you. The passion fruit tea was amazing. It had real fruit pieces in the cup and the tea was freshly brewed. The service was good. She lady was nice, helpful, patient, and friendly. She allowed customers to take their time ordering. The ambiance was something out of a book. There was umbrellas hanging from the ceiling in different colors.

Yelp
Cute drink place with competitive pricing and menu items. Lots of indoor seating which is nice if you need a little break. Only tried one item and rated based on that. Tea was flavorful, wish there was a bit more topping. Nice shopkeeper.

Yelp
We decided to try this place out. Typical boba and snack spot. Entering the place, you see the cute oriental umbrellas hanging above. We ordered a lemon lime green tea and a Vietnamese coffee. It was bit of a wait. The tea was good and well the Vietnamese coffee did not taste much like a Vietnamese coffee. Not sure I'd come back as there's plenty other spots with better tasting drinks and service.

Yelp
As expected, mediocre at best. My taro boba smoothie barely tasted like taro. The customer service is also as expected. The lady behind the counter looked like she hates the world. I can assure you today will be my last visit. There are alot of other boba shops to visit. Not to mention the price is a but high for quality that's mediocre. Service: C Price: $$ Quality: C

Yelp
The goodish: lychee with added mango slush. They also added fresh strawberry. Though not requested, it was good on a hot day (though they should have provided the order I requested). The bad: bathrooms weren't the cleanest and they ran out of toilet paper. I let an employee know and he was indifferent about it. Service was very slow even though there were few customers. I wasn't offered a straw.

Yelp
Love Tea is a cute little boba shop right at the corner of Grant and Broadway. Very easy to find and walking inside, I really love all the umbrellas across the ceiling. I always love that kind of decor every time I see it at various places. Very colorful and makes me smile. I ordered the Thai milk tea and it was a simple milk tea but not too sweet and not too bitter. Next time, I would probably ask for more sweetness but it's totally fine. The prices are not too expensive and service was very efficient even on Chinese New Year parade day. When the shop can handle lots of customers but pump out drinks pretty fast, the staff was very efficient. When I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop by and try more of their drinks.

Yelp
I was craving boba and this shop was right next to where I parked on the border of Chinatown. I got the regular size oolong milk tea with boba 50% sweet. It was definitely nostalgic of the time when Quickly's was the most popular boba spot. I liked the boba's consistency, perfectly chewy, and the usage of nondairy creamer in the milk tea.

Yelp
Stopped by on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Lots of choices for drinks. Ordered the sparkling lemon lime tea and ended up with sparkling lemon grapefruit tea. Didn't bother to change it, it was refreshing and I had it with 30% sweetener. It was just perfect. Will want to try their boba next and other offerings.

Yelp
They charged me extra for a combination strawberry banana smoothie and didn't tell me. They had strawberry smoothie, and banana smoothie on the menu, but it's $1 extra just to combine the two together. Makes no sense. VERY SHADY.

Yelp
Typical boba shop with popcorn chicken and all the various milk teas. They have alternative milk. Oat, almond, coconut, and non-dairy. Lots of topping varieties too even rainbow jelly. HAPPY BOBAING!

Yelp
I was still feeling hungry after dinner with my friend, and she had recommended that I try their popcorn chicken here. Since we came at night, there was no wait, and I got my items really quick. I'm so glad I took my friend's recommendation because I think i just found one of my favorite popcorn chicken in SF. This place has one of THE BEST popcorn chicken! The chicken is seasoned to perfection with the right amount of batter. Each bite was a delicious, juicy, soft piece of chicken. The portion size was also huge. You get a big take out box stuffed to the brim! I also got the osmanthus oolong milk tea, and it was pretty disappointing. The drink was super watered down and didn't have much tea flavor. Nonetheless, I'll return, but just for the popcorn chicken.

Yelp
Love the Lychee tea i got, it was by far the best I have had! It had lychee cubes and bobas ! The flavor was good and not too sweet! I enjoyed the ambiance and the cute umbrellas hanging on the ceiling! They have snacks too : lobster balls, french fries, to mention! It's at a corned so pretty easy to find if you are in the area!

Yelp
Conveniently located at the borders of SF Chinatown. Been here for a few times for a quick boba stop and would say some drinks are a hit or miss. Regular boba is free of charge for your drink! The cashiers are pretty monotone and appear serious but will take your order quickly. This time around I opted for their popcorn chicken. I liked that you can customize the seasonings they offer which varied from hot pepper, black pepper, salt, basil, and a few more. Basil with popcorn chicken is a must wherever and whenever I order popcorn chicken. However, the popcorn chicken here had a lot of fatty parts which made me feel a little sick of it half way through.

Yelp
Stopped in to use the facilities and all, decided to order fried tofu since the picture looked good (was tempted by the corndog and tots pics). It was actually really good? Crispy and a good sized portion. Also got the taro milk tea which was solid and not too sweet. Reasonably clean seating area and bathroom too.

Yelp
It was a rare sizzling day in the city so we needed a drink to cool off as we were walking through the city. We were traipsing through North Beach / Chinatown boundary when I started craving boba. Popped open Yelp and saw Love Tea was closest and highly rated. The decor inside is super cute. I loved the colorful umbrellas hung upside down from the ceiling! It was very cheery inside. The drink menu is long and there's a handful of savory snacks as well. My husband waited outside with our toddler while I ordered. He got the Jasmine Green Tea without boba (I know, right? He doesn't like the texture) and I got the Kiwi smoothie to share with our son. The smoothie was perfect on this hot day and very refreshing. The tea even with ice was still too warm on this ridiculously hot day. My husband joked that the high prices are due to the extravagant cups! They are thick thick thick plastic with a fancy lid, and yes, the prices here are too high. Didn't care for the high prices, but they got me on this hot day! I probably wouldn't come back but it was one of those 'in the moment' choices: right place, right time. No regrets. It was worth the splurge on that day, but neither drink was extraordinary.

Yelp
Boba tea was okay. Service could definitely improve such as making more eye contact and smiling while greeting customers. It's a nice, small hangout place.

Yelp
Omg so good Got no ice added boba Very good prices So much fruit in my drink I think it's number 41 so good and we're so happy lol

Yelp
Great little place in Chinatown to get a pick me upper. The staff was easygoing and helpful with a few questions I had. Teas were very refreshing. My blueberry milk tea was pretty good, but could've tasted more like blueberries. Other than that small detail the visit was a pleasant one. Prices are reasonable and the store itself is super cute and sparkly clean. Good place to get some tea or a snacky snack.

Yelp
It was a hot Summer day in San Francisco and I was looking for a refreshment and this place had just what I needed. The lychee green tea was delicious. A good place to get a drink.

Yelp
Chinatown has a vast amount of boba shops and it's hard to know which one to go to! I wanted to branch out of my typical Chinatown go-to and try a new spot, and the cute decor in this boba shop caught my eye! I tried two drinks from their menu, the passionfruit tea and oolong milk tea, but both were pretty disappointing. The passionfruit tea really didn't taste like passionfruit at all, but more orange/citrus due to the fruit toppings. The oolong milk tea also was pretty white - tasted more like milk when I appreciate the tea flavor more. However, service was really fast and again the ambience/decor with the cute umbrella ceilings was fun to visit!

Yelp
Came here for boba fix during family trip to Chinatown. With the somewhat recent anti-Asian hate crimes (within the last yr) and covid, Chinatown businesses have suffered, so we were happy to try to support local Chinatown businesses. Price: about same as other boba places in NorCal, about $4.50-$6.75. Didn't peruse snack menu much so can't comment. Drinks: we got - plain milk tea: not bad. Subtle sweetness. - passion fruit drink: slightly sweet, slightly tart. Pretty good - caramel: terrible. Super bland. We asked for more syrup and they were happy to help. But I'd stay away from this flavor. - jasmine milk tea, hot: favorite out of the bunch. We also asked if they sell ice cream and they gave us vanilla ice cream in a cup lol. I think it's for theirs shakes. Not sure how much we were charged. - overall: 3.5 stars for drinks. Drinks are by default a bit bland and not overly sweet, so keep that in mind and don't ask for reduced sweetness. They also didn't give options for reduced sweetness, so I'm not sure they'd do that. Boba was soft but just a subtle hint of sweetness... personally prefer it slightly sweeter and I don't feel I have a sweet tooth. +1 star for the cute decor! :)

Yelp
First time visiting Chinatown and this place sucks. The Caramel Milk Tea is not good at all and their fruit teas are disappointing. The cashier was really pessimistic and unfriendly too. Wouldn't come back here again, sorry.

Yelp
doesn't take long for them to make ur drink avg. 3-5 mins. the prices r DEFFFF HIGHER THAN AVERAGE AND ITS LIKE AVERAGE DRINKS TOO not to hate but ykwim. this drink was ok prolly better off at another boba shop ngl
google avatar

Yelp
They made the drinks pretty fast, and it tastes pretty good. But their drink prices are on the more expensive side for boba.

Yelp
Had the chai tea with boboa and tried the tiger tea with black sugar and tea and boboa. Both were good, the tiger tea was stronger and Thai tea was a little water down.

Yelp
After walking all over Chinatown, my friend and I stopped in for some Boba Tea. Almost an hour later, we walked out with our drinks. Here's how this all played out ... Walked in. Two parties in front of us. Order. Wait. And wait. And wait. At one point, one of the people who was in front of us asked about their order and mentioned they had been there for over thirty minutes. Per the receipt, we had been there 28 minutes. Skip ahead about ten more minutes - our order is ready. BUT - it's wrong. I ordered a large but was given a regular. No apology. Just grabbed the order and emptied the contents into a large container and added more ingredients. Grabbed our drinks and left. One of the parties who was in line in front of us, was still waiting for their drinks. It's CNY - but it's not busy. Three staff behind the counter seemed to be doing their own thing, not really working together. I don't mind the wait - people have bad days. Long days. Or there could have been a large order ahead of all us. That wasn't the worst part. For me, it was the drink. The mix of ingredients wasn't the problem, the Boba was. It was like the skin of the Boba balls were melting away giving it a slimy feel in my mouth. I don't make Boba myself so I wouldn't know how to remedy that problem. I'll just finish by saying that I ended up tossing it out unfinished.

Yelp
After a bit of an urban hike, where we forgot to bring our waters, we were in urgent, serious need for water and sugar. We happened by Love Tea on our way back to the hotel and came in. Not disappointed at all. There was only one person behind the counter so it did take a few minutes to get our order, but tbh this is something I experience in every boba shop I go into in LV so it wasn't a big deal to me. My BF's mango slush with boba and my pineapple tea with jelly were delicious and moderately priced. The decor in here was super cute with all of the umbrellas and there was seating and a place to take cutsey pics. That's all I really need in a boba shop. :)

Yelp
Great location on the outskirts of Chinatown near North Beach, City Lights Books, brunch places, and the hustle and bustle of stores and restaurants on Broadway. I went here when it was under a different name, but love the new selection Love Tea offers and the amazingly cute interior. After tennis one night (during COVID times), I was waiting for takeout dinner and walked around. I decided I could use some boba while I waited (I earned it, I worked out!) and had trouble deciding what to get. I landed on Yakult Butterfly Pea Flower Tea because it was pretty unique (and after watching To All the Boys I've Loved Before, I've been a sucker for yakult) and it was delicious! It tasted tangy and fruity, and the purple color was so bright and fun as well. Service is fast, friendly, and helpful like if you have any questions about what to get. Yes, tourists come to this location, but so do locals!

Yelp
Tired this place out while in Chinatown, and honestly, wasn't that impressed. The menu is vast, but the tea quality is lacking. Ordered an Earl Grey Milk Tea and Red Bean Milk Tea (50% sugar) and the Earl Grey wasn't that sweet, rather the Red Bean Milk Teas was sweeter! I get the red bean adds some sweetness and flavor but still. The Earl Grey Flavor wasn't as prominent and rich like some other places I've had this drink from. Also, the red bean was not soft, rather it was bit hard. The price point seemed reasonable, but that is how they get you. They give you free boba, but if you want a large, they charge you $1 more! The boba wasn't even that good, it wasn't as soft and chewy like it should be. The customer service was alright, the lady working was friendly enough, nothing special. The nice thing is you only need to buy 6 drinks before you get one free! Takes credit cards via Square and receipts available upon request. Small dining room with some tables and seating and the decorations on top are nice with the various umbrellas. Overall, a decent place to try, but I'm sure there is better in the area.
google avatar

Grechie M.

Yelp
The chicken popcorn we bought is not that good! I can only taste the flour or whatever it is they cover on it. I tasted a lot of fat , cannot confirm what it was but I'm pretty sure it wasn't chicken. It tasted horrible!

Yelp
In preparation for our hike up the impending hills to Coit Tower, my friend and I unanimously agreed to grab boba before beginning our hilly journey. After browsing through the books at City Lights Bookstore, this was the closest one and decided to give it a try! My friend got their Osmanthus Milk Tea while I got their Peach Milk Tea. The Peach Milk Tea was $4.95...including boba!! I didn't get boba this time, but after ordering, I noticed that their boba was FREE. With boba places averaging about $7 lately for their drinks, I loved the prices here and felt like it was very fair. I thought my drink was average; although, I liked how they used real peach bits at the bottom. On the other hand, my friend absolutely loved her drink! The tea flavor came through, which was exactly what she was looking for. The inside of the store is quaint and there's also plenty of seating w/ tables available. Conveniently located on the corner of Broadway, it's a cute place to duck into to grab some boba while escaping SF's cold weather!

Samuel M.

Yelp
I'm very happy she is only one person managing the whole place and still gets things done quick very nice and prices are reasonable the fries is a large quantity for 6 dollars I would go here again

Yelp
A few years ago, I written reviews that made it interesting to more people who have read it. I used to pull it off at last. This year, I haven't racked up so much. So therefore, I still write in the best of my current abilities so people can read them. Not all my reviews invokes wonders just like the beautiful decorations of Love Tea. The dangling umbrellas, and the fans, all adorned with paintings of beautiful young women and ancient settings. Kinda feels like going back in time to enjoy the days of timeless youths. One of their hobbies, harvesting and hand-picking tea leaves, which is what they have in variety of ways. I do love tea; most of the time. I love tea itself or with fruits. Milk is fine, but fruits are better. Black chewy pearls, meh! Aloa vera was a better choice. While my brother enjoyed plain, simple, jasmine milk tea with black pearls, I got the Super Fruit Tea. Glad my drink wasn't too sweet when it's icy cold; thus, that's how I enjoyed the sweetest in the late summer afternoon. Now if I can remember from the last few days of which slices of fruits were in my drink, here's my memory test: Two slices of lemon One slice of lime One slice of strawberry One slice of kiwi One slice of orange One slice of blood orange One mini big slice of watermelon About the seeds, maybe they came from the passion fruit. Since I promised myself to reduce my sugar intake, having one dose was enough. There's nothing wrong with the customer service as long as cash was accepted. There's no long line when I first came here. Love Tea during COVID-19 is another good tea hut in Chinatown that's alot better than its predecessor. (OwO)b

Yelp
Wanted a boba after exploring Chinatown. Stopped here as they had so many options. We got the Mango milk tea and Peach milk tea. Very cute little place and the tea was really tasty!

Yelp
The tea place is cute and clean. We only get to try one drink - mango fresh milk. It's nice that they have sago as an add-on so we got that. The drink is delicious. Service is fast too, not too long of a wait.

Yelp
the #2 strawberry milk was really good! this place has a lot of different flavors and variety of drinks!

Yelp
My partner and I are on a mission to find the best Mango Green Tea boba and we think this is a close one! The drink had actual pieces of mango and the boba was just the right amount of chewiness. 很Q!The large was a great size for its price -- cheaper than most places in Boston. The Yakult Rose Tea was too sweet for my liking (I got 100% sweetness) and more sour than I was expecting. Whenever I get boba, I typically order 25% or 30% sweetness but the Jasmine Green Milk Tea was not sweet at all at 50%. I was very excited though that the store offered coconut milk for no extra charge. Finally, the Passion Fruit Tea had seeds and was not our favorite, but still worth a try!

Pablo P.

Yelp
Doesn't pick up phone, throws change back at customers, rude, when we called about our wallet they answered with "what do you want" hung up and blocked us.
google avatar

Olivia L.

Yelp
Got the Hong Kong coffee milk tea and the strawberry slushie, both with creama. The Hong Kong coffee milk tea tasted very bad imo, and on top of that, they forgot to add the boba into the drink (which is supposed to come with boba). The strawberry slushie was not bad, but the creama was quite strange. The taste and texture just wasn't quite right. The only thing going for this place is the interior design.

Yelp
Awesome Boba spot, snacks are great. Service is A++. With all the cookie cutter boba spots out there, this one stands out from the rest.

Yelp
A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, as my English teacher from High school would often times repeat. Hemingway is one of several favorite authors of all time. I could hang out here all day. Staff is really friendly. The food comes out piping hot and the drinks are perfectly sweetened. Nancy says the boba are made fresh over the course of the day, which means no stale boba. I had the popcorn chicken as a snack which was nice to have while we worked on a project to make Chinatown a cool place to get great food, walk around and take great pics.
google avatar

Karina L.

Yelp
Upon arriving this place without checking their yelp review, it was a disappointment. I ordered their osmanthus oolong tea and it literally taste like water with osmanthus and a ton of sugar. Keep in mind I ordered 50% sweetness level. Overall, so disappointed. I had to throw away a $6.50 drink plus tax...
google avatar

Yelp
Love Tea is located in the Chinatown area and it is on a busy street. Parking can be hit or miss - I parked on one of the side streets nearby and walked a couple of blocks here. The shop is small and reminds me of an old frozen yogurt joint. I liked the umbrella decor/theme they have going on inside. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with boba. The boba was creamy with light tea taste, the aftertaste made my mouth kind of dry after drinking it though. The boba was chewy and broke apart easily as well.
google avatar

Evelyn Z.

Yelp
HUGE variety of drinks and options for various deep-fried snacks!! Their decor is also super cute with the umbrellas hanging off the ceiling. I loved their drinks because they weren't super sweet and they were also a good size. Their deep fried snacks were also delicious, warm, and crispy.
google avatar

Braden B.

Yelp
Cute place in chinatown. $6 boba drink. Looking forward to try the rest of the menu. No restrooms unfortunately. Clean & spacious. Indoor dining as well.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Beautiful boba shop with such a unique, jaw dropping decor! I love the drinks they had on the menu and also the owners were super nice! Not only is this a small business offering unique boba drinks (with and without caffeine), but they have some DELICIOUS street snack foods! Try their popcorn chicken (a classic, perfectly done), or their Shanghai buns (soooo warm and yummy)! They have a few chairs and tables here, and I saw someone doing work there or maybe watching tv? They also play Hong Kong tv as well in here!
google avatar

Fiona B.

Yelp
What's not to love about Love Tea. It use to be so many owners and names. I think this one will stick forever! Inside is just as amazing and cute and fancy as the name. Ordered passionfruit Butterfly & yakult matcha. All really refreshing. Prefect sweetness. Staff is really nice. Place is really clean. Can't wait to be able to sit in there and really relax.

Yelp
Great place it's close to Chinatown and next to north beach. I love the brews and service.Bun is the best vibe.

Yelp
I got the normal milk tea with boba and it was meh. The tea flavor wasn't that strong and it was a bit watered down. The boba was the best part with a nice chewy consistency! Maybe their other bubble teas are better but I would not get a normal milk tea again.
