New Brunch Spot Hilda & Jesse Refuses to Serve Armed Police Officers | Eater SF

"I found Low Bar described as a cool, Chicano-owned bar that is hosting Popoca’s return, providing cocktail pairings for the seven-course Salvadoran dinner series that will run on Tuesdays starting December 14, with reservations handled via Tock and schedule updates on Instagram." - Becky Duffett

Google
Always a great cocktail experience at Low Bar. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. The Krampus Old Fashioned is consistently good, and enhanced by the speakeasy vibe. My only complaint is some of the seating options. Please put more comfortable seating at the end of the bar area. The odd pew/ottoman seating is awkward and uncomfortable.

Google
Great drinks with a huge selection. Service is top notch. Atmosphere was good with exception of the music being to loud to talk.

Google
Low Bar is a very cool place for a late night drink! Ambiance is great, it has that dark speakeasy sort of vibe. It can be a bit loud when it's busy but not horrible. Very nice unique cocktail selection. The Boss is awesome, the smoked decanter is a nice touch. We also tried The Krampus Old Fashioned which was a great twist on a traditional. The service was a bit slow, it took awhile to get served and get the bill, even though we mentioned we were having one drink and wanted the bill when the drinks came out. The server forgot our request. All things considered though Low Bar is worth the visit.

Google
Really cool spot for a drink. In the basement of the building. The vibe is chill and relaxed. Drinks were good. Would come again.

Google
Such a cool speakeasy! We sat at the bar and were totally entranced by the bartenders precision. Loved that experience. We tried a classic cocktail and an employee created cocktail, and both were delicious. The rules at the beginning of the menu were reasonable & appreciated! Quiet spot for small groups and great craft cocktails!!

Google
One of the best experiences I have had going to a bar. The staff was even more of a highlight than the drinks and that is saying something. Amazing speak easy bar that I will visit every chance I get

Google
What a find! Drinks were amazing, service from Nick top level. Wish we lived here to go all the time!

Google
Love low bar !! I have the BEST Old fashion cocktail in Traverse City and probably the best in many bars I’ve been around my world travels.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! COOLEST speakeasy ever!!! Follow the sign just passed 7 Monks Taphouse. Take the elevator down and be prepared to enter a different world. The smell of smoked drinks puts you into a Time Machine. Our waiter was hilarious and attentive. Highly recommend the espresso martini and The Boss

Yelp
Ended our night at Low Bar. They stay open later than most bars around Traverse City on a Monday. It's at the bottom of the building which is pretty cool. You walk in and it's very dark and lounge feeling. We got the Krampus Old Fashioned and a Wake Up Call. Krampus is very strong! I'm a wimp haha my husband ordered that. I got the Wake Up Call. It was very yummy. A good dessert drink to end my night. I liked it! Also very strong. So if you like booze heavy drinks this is your place! It's not super loud down in the bar. It was a cool place to get a drink and hang out for a bit. Krista and Nick were running the bar. They were friendly and kind and attentive service. 5 stars if strong drinks are your vibe because this is place makes great drinks I only gave 4 because it's not really my style of drinks and I didn't love love my drink. I like it, it was good but I wouldn't get two. Service was 5 stars Bar was 5 stars Prices were great

Yelp
Nice hidden bar that has such a fun vibe. Drinks are unique and very tasty. Service was great and they really are able to help find something you like with such a unique menu.

Yelp
Unexpected treasure in Traverse City. Speakeasy vibes but manages not to feel trendy or hipster. The huge bourbon selection is a nice set up for some excellent old fashioneds. We got there early-ish on a Saturday, and there were several tables available. We had one leisurely drink at the bar and there was a line when we left. Three bartenders working, and they seemed to be exactly what one wants from a bartender. Helpful, knowledgeable, friendly without being intrusive, and really good at mixing drinks. Our bartender, Zach, was especially good at answering questions and made some epic cocktails for us and for nearby patrons. If I had been okay with getting drunk, I would have happily had several more rounds. It's dark, but not absurdly so. No windows since it's a basement space. Nothing kitschy or gimmicky that I could see. Nice working elevator if you can't or don't wish to take stairs up and down. The crowd waiting to get in after 8pm looked younger, so I'd say if you're over 35 and value quiet and space, get there earlier.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Loved this bar, cocktails were great, and the best collection of bourbons i've seen in a long time. Unfortunately, the (head?) bartender left a sour taste in our mouth after some belittling comments. Disappointed, probaly won't return.

Yelp
We did not order food but instead came here after dinner for some drinks and friendly conversation with our bartender, Zach. The bar is located in a basement but exudes uber cool old world speakeasy with its dark but welcoming atmosphere and tiny private nooks. The drink prices are standard (a bit pricey) but the product and craftsmanship is superior. RECOMMEND for a romantic spot for date night.

Yelp
Came here when it was decorated for Halloween and wow! Sometimes it can feel cheap, but this was done really well. Our server was so friendly and definitely made our night better. I ordered some drink with absinthe and it came in a smokey jar for me to pour which was really cool. It was also really strong and had great flavor.

Yelp
I Love Speakeasies and this one did not disappoint. My BF had a delicious Old Fashioned called Krampus . It was incredible, they smoke the orange and just wow. I have my traditional Gin Martini and it was made correctly. The place is dimly lit, romantic and good vibes all around.

Yelp
I have to be honest, we didn't get to stay because we had a previous engagement, but we did walk in and the ambience was so inviting. Definitely had a 1920s speakeasy vibe. I personally love these kind of places definitely be back and try out some of their amazing menu options.

Yelp
Ambiance, food and service phenomenal. Love to just go and hang out at the Low Bar and have a cocktail and some appetizers. Great place!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
A cocktail bar for cocktail enthusiasts. Finely crafted properly made drinks are a must and that's what you get here. No food. A very small selection of beer and wine. Very dark and moody. Sip a finely crafted drink and chill. It's probably not for everyone and that's perfect. Enjoy!

Yelp
This bar is honestly one of the most unique bars I've seen in a hot minute. It's Cool and Dark and the drinks are to die for. The service was pretty great, Randy the Host was very polite and worked with us to get the best spot in the bar. Carley our server was very knowledgeable and her drink recommendations were amazing! I highly recommend the Low Bar Punch! The only downside was a large maybe 13 group of people in their couch area that were all clearly way to drunk. A few of them were passed out and sleeping and the others being really loud. Either way 4/5 would still recommend.

Brian S.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and the drinks. Zach was a great bartender! We will definitely be back.

Brian T.

Yelp
We stopped in to Low Bar for a cocktail. We've been looking forward to seeing this place as we enjoy these speakeasy types of bars. We were seated immediately with about 12 people in the entire bar ( 5:30 on a Thursday). We waited and waited for someone to take our order but they never came by. People arriving long after us were served. So we just got up and left. Seems "low bar" is the appropriate name for this place.

Sam S.

Yelp
I wouldn't even give this place 1* if it was an option. Manager was unbelievably rude and acted completely out of control screaming cus words at our group. Even the guy who brought us water was mortified by his behavior. Tuesday 7/22/25 "manager" was verbally abusive to myself and the women I came with and chased us out of the establishment for simply ordering a round of drinks. I've been to this place for years and never experienced anything like this. Absolutely horrified!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I used to love coming to Low Bar! Most years would score this 5 stars for the classy speak easy atmosphere, craft cocktails, excellent wines (they have Chablis and Petit Chablis by the glass) and attentive service - all of which are still true. Why the deduction in score?! They allow bachelorette parties , four at a time, to invade this beautiful space. Low Bar is better suited for couples and groups who don't need to shout across the room, go to the bathroom in groups of 3, wear lighted sneakers and play games at the dimly lit bar like we're in summer camp. Get back to your sophisticated and hip roots! Play some Tribe Called Quest and other old school hip hop at a medium volume. Limit circus acts. Act your aspiration, not your name Low Bar.

Garrison S.

Yelp
Fun low-key spot tucked away in downtown traverse city. Great vibe inside, great drink selection, and very helpful servers, made some great recommendations for someone who doesn't really know what to go for when ordering cocktails

Daniel W.

Yelp
Craft made drinks done right. Nice little hidden gem that is open late even in the winter.

Hugo M.

Yelp
Worst service in Traverse City!!! Don't give this place 1$!!! Invited a few friends here this evening for an after dinner drink and the manager screamed to GTFO. Nick you're a useless human and should never speak to anyone, especially women the way you did this evening!!!

Erika W.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years and it's always a quieter vibe with amazing drink artists. They even have their own set of rules they have always upheld. One being respectful of others and your volume in which you carry conversation. This visit was similar to just being a college bar with immature tables. With many cringe moments of screaming, swearing, and disrespectful conversation.

Maggie M.

Yelp
Randy is the true MVP here! The ambiance and drinks are absolutely amazing. I will come here anytime we're in TC!

J M.

Yelp
Great speak easy and very very very good mixed drinks, ever have an absinthe old-fashioned? Well you should

Yelp
Jeff...oh Jeffrey. The whiskey knowledge. He knows. What an incredible night out with my husband. If we had a question, Jeff had THEE answer. If you are looking for classics or innovative- you will be impressed. Made me a drink. Tickled my fancy. Thanks Jeff.

Yelp
The service is great The ambiance dark and (if a bit noisy at times). It has the feel of a London Gentleman's Club. The cocktails are crafted little bits of heaven in a glass ... mixed with a bit of mischief and a gentle kick from grandads mule.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
A Total Gem! This is one of the better speakeasy/cocktail bars I'veever been to. It reminded me of The Keep in Detroit...subterranean, catacomb-ish, dark and super chill. The staff was engaging and non-pretentious and they happen to mix a fantastic proper cocktail. They're on my Sazerac list with high marks. I appreciated that they'll pour a half-pour shot of whatever you want to try. I'm not sure if they had Pappy V but if they do you could try a taste portion that doesn't hit your wallet as hard. They had a formidable selection of bourbons, ryes and gins and the prices were fair. WELL WORTH CHECKING OUT!
google avatar

Vianney F.

Yelp
Exceptional service, Elijah has to be one of the best servers we've come across in a while. He was very knowledgeable about the menu. Was super friendly and made our anniversary/birthday party very exciting!
google avatar

Kendall M.

Yelp
We live for a swanky speakeasy vibe where only the most fashionable cocktails are created. Low Bar, located next to 7 Monks, down a flight of stairs in the back. Personally, I prefer a speakeasy to be a bit more secretive. However, in a tourist heavy town such as Traverse City, I understand the need for a bit of visibility. Our bartender was kind, personable and efficient. He made our drinks balanced and the flavors were impressive! I particularly enjoyed my "Three Dots and a Dash" a nod to their Tiki section of the menu. A good tiki drink is hard to come by, and Speakeasy nailed it. My friends enjoyed their mule and gin fizz equally! Fresh ingredients and attention to detail are apparent here. The atmosphere is dark and moody. One of the largest liquor selections I've ever encountered at a bar, and the lounge furniture creates intimate nooks for couples and groups alike. If you are looking for an iconic spot for hand crafted cocktails, look no further than Speakeasy.

Yelp
I always find it challenging to find a bar I actually enjoy. The atmosphere in this basement bar is excellent. It's relaxed, casual but not jorts and croc shoe casual, which I appreciate. You can be dressed up her and not stick out. The servers at the bar are wonderful. Friendly, and genuinely nice people. The cocktails are crafted so nicely. Everything is freshly made and fresh tasting. For sometime like myself who rarely enjoys alcohol, this place is a great spot.
google avatar

Jay C.

Yelp
Really cool spot. Great vibes. $14 for a single cocktail is pretty high though. Also no happy hour, and meager food selection (charcuterie board only). Other than that would def recommend.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Super cool place, moody lighting, speakeasy vibe. The East Side drink was fantastic and all the drinks sounded great
google avatar

Jericka S.

Yelp
Awesome place for an intimate drink with friends or a first date . The house champagne is awesome and so is the service . Cool lil place !
google avatar

Patty L.

Yelp
We found this place based on previous Yelp reviews during our visit to TC. It's hidden in the lower level and has that speak-easy vibe. If you are looking for an intimate spot for drinks, or a fun place to linger with friends, this is the place. We visited Low Bar 2x during our long weekend and every cocktail we tried was unique and tasty. Fantastic service by all and we plan to go back soon!
google avatar

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Legitimately the best bar in the area. You want a drink you can't get anywhere else, this is simply the place to go. Ask for Haley, she's the most amazing bar tender/mixologist creating drinks you can never imagine. If you haven't been here you're missing out. Test me, I dare you. Period.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
First old fashion was great, second one was a bust. It's a dark basement with some decent girly drinks, but don't stray off the menu, or possibly the guy bartending was just not great.

Terri Z.

Yelp
Super cool speak easy underground bar. The drinks were delicious and hand crafted by the mixologist behind the bar. If you love tequila have the cocktail "educated guess". A Very smooth drink will want you having more than 1. Would recommend and will come back again next time in town
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Fantastic selection. Bartenders are professional and can make any and all drinks. To watch then in action is great entertainment. They also engage customers in conversation that is natural and not forced. This is a must stop for anyone spending time in Traverse city
google avatar

Dean V.

Yelp
Be aware that this place can be very noisy if it's packed with customers. This was the case when I visited. If there is a wait, understand that it might be pretty noisy too. Drinks are on the spot and the music is enjoyable.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
Cool speakeasy type cocktail bar. Wide selection of cocktails with a huge whiskey list. The whiskey list had a pretty good selection of hard to find allocated bourbons. The prices were fair...certainly not the highest I have seen.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Wow, this place is rad. It feels like a speakeasy. While lots of drunk folks were raging on Union Street, we snuck down the secret hallway and down the stairs to Low Bar. Before long, we were seated. Our server was pretty inattentive, but the drinks were on point, the lights were low and the vibe was chill. I loved it, compared to the more drunken frat feel of other bars in the area. I loved my Old Fashioned ($8). Strong and smooth. Because it's tucked away, it siphons off the really drunk people who will stumble into the more noticeable street-level bars. Low Bar is full of people who know how to handle their alcohol. Also worth noting, a lot of the employees of Georgina's came here for after-work drinks. If it's good enough for the locals, it's worth visiting yourself. I'll be back, especially when I want to impress any lady friends.

Yelp
Loved this place!! We spent a weekend in Traverse City and wanted to find a good charcuterie plate for dinner one night. We sure hit the jackpot here! The options for charcuterie were amazing. So many different meats and cheeses with some additions to the plate. The best part is that they were priced per item, so it was easy to pick and choose exactly what you want. The place is downstairs with an almost speakeasy feel. Dark and romantic with comfy tables. Our server was super helpful with ordering both food and drinks. Our group tried several different drinks and liked them all. Cocktails are on the higher priced side but delicious. Next time we are in Traverse I plan on stopping back!

Joe C.

Yelp
Love the Low Bar, great service, fantastic drinks and soothing atmosphere. We go every time we get to Traverse City!
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
We came here for drinks while waiting for our dinner reservations. Very appropriate COVID restrictions in place. There was a sign outside to text a number with your name and # of people in your party. The hostess comes to get you at the door when your spot is ready. We went at 7PM on a Saturday and we were seated right away. We tried three cocktails. Each was delicious and unique. They definitely justified the price tag, which I found to be very reasonable for the quality of the drinks, service and ambiance of the bar! I would definitely recommend coming here and I will be back!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Great staff. Perfect ambiance. Tantalizing drinks. Will be back for more 1920s vibes.
google avatar

To Short O.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere it's very dark which is good for relaxing. Firefly workers and orderly.

Mark S.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and cocktails! See Austin the bartender. He's amazing. Makes great cocktails!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bar! You have to walk down a flight of stairs and be sat in order to be ordered. We sat at the bar in the most comfortable leather chairs, and ordered drinks only. I went with a Paloma, and it was one of my favorite palomas! They have ton of whiskey drinks and the bartenders are extremely friendly! Just a cool atmosphere and highly recommend checking it out for a drink!
google avatar

Jenna A.

Yelp
This place is a must visit for true cocktail lovers. The Low Bar has set the bar high for all other bars...a must try!
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to have an after dinner drink, this is the place. With attentive staff, craft cocktails, homemade bitters & syrups it is something to experience. As a wine lover, I'm not typically a mixed cocktail girl. But this place has so many choices & unique options. It's a must try. The Amelia was my first choice followed by the Bourbon Basil Smash! Equally delish! It's in a basement with a club feel. They do offer food as well but can't speak on that, but the drinks & bartenders were outstanding at helping to assist with what you like.
google avatar

Martha R.

Yelp
I love this place. As others have mentioned, it can be a little difficult to locate - but be strong, it's worth it. The basement is nice and dark - good for friends, dates, being alone and people-watching. Really, take your pick on your motivation... any excuse to go will do. The drinks are amazing, wait staff and bartenders friendly (they even attempted my Juliette and Romeo), and reasonably priced. The charcuterie plate is quite filling for the price as well... just in case you didn't eat dinner first. Really a top favorite place in Traverse. Go, you won't regret it.
