8 Essential Restaurants in Summerville

"Alicia’s on Central Avenue serves big portions of Southern-style dishes, and it might be the only place in the Lowcountry where patrons can order a full slab of ribs, shrimp and grits, and oxtails at the same location. If you go for lunch, try the smoked chicken plate. For dinner, try the turkey wings. The restaurant also delivers via Uber Eats or find the eatery’s amazing food truck." - KJ Kearney

The fish was mediocre at best. For $20 one piece of fish was insufficient, and a lot of senior citizen and do not eat a lot. There were too many fries, and the coleslaw was not very good. I was the only customer at 11:15 AM on a Saturday. The tables were high and the benches were too short and it was uncomfortable. The atmosphere is dingy and very small. Since I was the only customer it would’ve been nice if they would’ve asked me what I want to watch on TV, especially the pre-college football game shows. I was charged three dollars for not a Coke, but a Pepsi. I was ignored the entire time until I was ready to go and then the waitress said oh do you want more to drink? She should have asked, halfway through my mail she should’ve just blocked me another one, especially when a three dollars each!!! Such a rip off! I was assuming they would have a lunch special of some type. The menu is limited. Interior small, and they just long tables like a cafeteria in a jail. I would not want to go in when it’s busy it’ll be crammed up against other people, especially when there is not room between the front windows and the first row of benches. Just was not a pleasant experience!!

Google
Great atmosphere and service, and they have amazing food too! The fried calamari was excellent, and the fried scallops in my po boy were perfectly cooked. I was so surprised at the portion size for the price and quality - this place is a gem!

Google
Our first time here and Sunday afternoon. They were serving brunch as well and my wife had the Camp Breakfast which she enjoyed. I had the Camp Salad with blackened shrimp, very good. I definitely recommend if you are in Summerville to give it a try. The sever was Shelby and she was very friendly and did a great job.

Alys W.

Google
Great Seafood and a eclectic atmosphere. The staff was excellent! The bartender was so friendly and fun and the fall Sangria was over the top. Probably the best I have ever tasted. Not to sweet, great fall flavors, and the dehydrated apples made in house are exceptional!! I will definitely be back, and highly recommending it to friends!

Google
It was a very pleasant experience! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Our server was super sweet. And the place has nice vibes: very easy going, authentic and fun. They had a nice selection of beer. Blackened scallops were phenomenal, as well as all the sauces that the food was served with. The only menu item that didn't srove a single point was the coleslaw: none of us liked it, unfortunately.

Bartosz R.

Google
A bit of a wait for the food but definitely worth it. Fresh and delicious. Loved the grouper bites ..

Renee D.

Google
GREAT FOOD! Gotta love the atmosphere! May be a bit on busy side but Josh and our other server did not let you down! Grouper bites are a must!

Deede W.

Google
What an absolute hidden gem! This little hole in the wall place was fantastic! We had the best dinner. I had the grouper bites and it was the perfect amount for dinner. It was so good. Kendall was so engaging. She said it was the first time she saw a Jaguars fan in the wild. LOL! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I was recommended Low Country Fish Camp by someone I know all the way up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois! This place is truly amazing! We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and had a wonderful experience. We're new to the area, and our server was very helpful in giving us information about Summerville and its surrounding neighborhoods. The food was excellent. Everyone's fish was cooked perfectly; flaky and delicious. It tasted fresh and like how all fish should taste. I loved every bite. I also liked that they served the tartar and cocktail sauces in squeeze bottles. We tried the Flounder Po Boy Sandwich, fried, the Grouper Bites, and a Scallop Po Boy Sandwich, grilled. Everything was so good, although I think getting those scallops blackened would have brought the sandwich up another level. Still, it tasted great. Usually, I'm not a fan of seasoned fries, but these were addictive. A charming little shack of a restaurant! We will surely be returning!

Yelp
In the area to visit friend, he recently moved to Summerville. Thus always looking for a spot we know not...LCFC easy to find, small board shack one may not choose at 1st glance. I not paying attention parked directly behind said shack...area reserved for handicap/take out. My bad as didn't see larger gravel parking adjacent. Warmly greeted of seating option, back area had a few tables however wanted to view the inside...very small bar, 4-5 chairs, 2-community seating tables easy to seat 12-18 peeps. We chose the bar chairs, again 3-waitress warmly greeted. Few cocktails on the bar menu, both ordered a Paloma (not correctly made thus 4-stars). Appetizer soup/mushroom, brie chesse...Outstanding! Aha menu....whole flounder, flounder fillets, grouper fillets, shrimp, oysters platters, oysters on half-shell. We had a whole flounder fried, another flounder fillet platters...flounder crispy coating, meat melted on the tongue...platters huge, hush puppies quickly consumed to keep them hushed, fries, coleslaw all well prepared and very tasty...Excellent, well done LCFH staff. Please support this local business, ya gonna like it!

Yelp
Had dinner at Low Country Fish Camp and ordered the fish platter with a side of oysters and shrimp, plus the Gouda mac and cheese bites. The fish and shrimp were good. The oysters were a bit too salty, and the Gouda bites tasted more like hush puppies than actual mac and cheese, which was a little disappointing. I've been here before, but prices have really increased. The total for everything came to around $77, which feels excessive for a casual seafood meal. We did take the food to go, mostly because getting in and out of this location is a hassle parking and traffic can be tricky. My friend, who was visiting from out of town, enjoyed the meal, so that was a plus. I'd say this place is worth it for a special treat, but if you're just looking for a casual Friday night dinner, be prepared for the cost. A great local spot, but not as budget-friendly as it used to be.

Yelp
Welcome home ... sorta I went to CofC ... but never been to this spot ... parking can be a headache but thanks to the host I was able to park in the front .. cozy lol spot ... for my app I got the gator bites .. s/o to the staff it was actually a meal but I was able to make it a appetizer .... Go Dawgs we just beat UF for my entree I went with the Duck Legs and my sides are the grits with stone grits and fried okra ... also side note I ordered the orange tea and it was AMAZING ... the gator bites were amazing ... seasoned perfectly like o did them myself at home ... the grits came very cheesy which I loved ... needed a touch of salt and pepper but was overall good ... the fried okra was also a plus and not over cooked sooooo the duck wings were an item I highly recommend they were drizzled in a citrus , chipotle barbecue sauce that add a spark to them. They weren't overly battered and not gamey or tough .. this was a good find considering I haven't been in Summerville ... Also s/o to our waitress Sarah she showed us a great time and was patient.

Yelp
Food: 4.0 fish and shrimp are excellent!! The Cole slaw is bland and fries have a lot of batter but taste good. Service: 5 Ambiance: 4.5 very cool casual vibe. Brilliant the way they did the outdoor seating. I wish I could give 4.75 stars but Yelp only allow me to pick whole numbers. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who hasn't tried it and is hankering for fresh seafood. The flounder was perfectly battered, seasoned, and cooked. The fresh shrimp were delicious. The hush puppies are the best (no onions or peppers), crispy outside and moist inside.

Yelp
The location is great super convenient to downtown Summerville and local shopping. The restaurant outdoor is super low key and inviting. The service was good checking in to order and the likes but not overly annoying. The food was the real stand out. Everything we had was amazing! I had the special Mahi and a skinny margarita spicey and my husband had the catfish platter and son had the kids dried flounder. Portions were huge and delicious!

Yelp
Low Country Fish Camp is aptly named - it's very casual. But don't be fooled, the food is fresh and superlative. This is my go-to when I want an excellent meal. I ordered their Grouper Bites and She Crab and Corn Chowder, and both were top notch. The Bites had a delicate, crispy breading and solid chunks of fresh grouper - just heavenly. I should've gotten a larger bowl of soup as my dinner mates couldn't resist taking more than the offered taste, and I couldn't blame them. Everything else on the platter was also remarkable. The hush puppies were hot and crispy, with a soft center that wasn't too sweet. I haven't had better. The cole slaw was just the way I like it - fresh, not heavy with mayonnaise, and not sweet. It was a nice crunchy addition. Even the fries were a cut above; they were crunchy with soft insides and piping hot. Our waitress was a stitch, and made our dinner delightful. She was attentive without hovering, and personable without trying to be our best friend. Just like the meal - perfect!

Yelp
The duck legs were delicious and the El Diablo cocktail, but beyond that I was so disappointed. This place is raved about and I finally gave it a chance but the collards were so bland, the Mac and cheese was mediocre, and the pie needs more work. However, the staff was absolutely amazing and kind so they get all 5 stars.

Yelp
This has become my aunts favorite place to get seafood and I love that we don't have to drive to Charleston to get it. We are always seated immediately and drink orders are taken. The waitresses are always polite and approachable. We got in around noon and the crowd began to follow. Today is Saturday so we expected it to be busy. I'd say we waited around 15-20 for our food but it was fresh and hot! The catfish is delicious and I really enjoy their cole slaw. It's mayo based and nothing fancy. Just good Ole slaw. I love the patio they offer because the weather was perfect today. Highly highly recommend! Plus they had a gator platter special today if you are looking for gator in Summerville!

Yelp
This place is a Joke. So small inside, server was rude. Food is bland. Our food was wrong and a female mabager/owner came out with a attitude and said nothing was wrong that's how we ordered it! Not at all true. I wanted to leave right then and we should have. We went as a family to eat together, not in shifts waiting 30 minutes for our entrees to be brought out separately. No apologies, no discount, all we got was nasty services all around and rubbery, overcooked seafood. The only reason this place is in business is because people here don't know what good food or seafood is. They also have limited places in Summerville. This place would be out of Business in less than 6 months in Myrtle Beach.

Yelp
Excellent seafood and cooked to perfection. I had the fried seafood platter which had ample portions of flounder, shrimp, oysters and scallops; definitely an ample meal with you'll definitely take home leftovers. Ordered a glass of Chardonnay that was smooth and buttery with a hint of pear ... served in a very small mason jar. How authentic !!! All of the staff were great and provided friendly, attentive service. The actual building itself fits the name ... older rustic building with tables and chairs don't match. Definitely dress down and blue jeans are perfect. .Very much like my Dad's old fish camp on Clarks Hill in Augusta, GA. Overall, everything about this quaint little restaurant was spot on. Great time !!! Really enjoyed the food and my visit.

The food is delicious!! Patty is the best server!! She has great recommendations!! The covered outdoor area is so fun for larger groups!! Loved the fried grouper bites, hush puppies, beans and rice and greens with their hot sauce!!! Will definitely return when in town!!

Yelp
Parking: There are two areas to park. The closest being for those with any form of disability. And another some feet away for general parking. Service: The service was very good. With this being our first time here, the servers were patient with us and answered every question that we had. They also gave their recommendations on what they like which I appreciate. Food: Food was outstanding! My family and I tried a little bit of everything. I tried to take photos of everything but sadly that can attest to how good it was. The buffalo shrimp was good, Camp rolls amazing, and so was the grouper bites! The Hushpuppies were also delicious. Main dish I ordered was the shrimp and grits which was cooked to perfection in my opinion. There was an option to add scallions and I had to choke to have them blackened which was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. That was the best scallions I've ever had! The dessert options was overwhelming because I wanted to try everything, but I resorted to the bourbon chocolate pecan pie which was very flavorful! Ambiance: Ambiance was great. We had a seat outside in the shade where the weather was perfect with sweet tea in hand. Another thing I'd like to point out is how clean the bathroom was which I feel a lot of places need to add attention to. Though it was warm outside the bathroom was clean, cold, and smelled amazing. Opportunities: We tried the greens as a side and we weren't a fan of them. That, in my opinion won't deduct any points from me since everyone does theirs differently and I'm sure someone will like it. Overall: We went there for a celebration and I'm glad that we did. The food, customer service, and the staff were amazing. I can't wait to make my return there for the camp rolls, scallions, or possibly something new! Also if the staff needs any photos for yelp please don't hesitate to ask!

Yelp
Just what I was hoping for. The best seafood. The grouper bite appetizer was out of this world. You've got to try their grits, outstanding. This is out go to seafood restaurant in Summerville.

Lou A.

Yelp
With all the great reviews, and being close to our home, this was a must try. The ambiance is definitely low key. It does indeed look like a camp building, with wooden benches and open structure. Feel free to go here in your jeans and T-shirt. Wait staff was top notch from top to bottom. We were attended to immediately and drinks and food came very quickly. We ordered off the Happy Hour drink menu and had the apple cider sangria (a Fall Season item). Very apple forward and delicious. Served in mason jars of course. I had the Fisherman's platter, which includes a bit of everything. The flounder was a tiny bit dry, but flakey and nicely cooked. The fried shrimp were some of the best I've had. The fried scallops were wonderfully tender. The coating on these was not crispy, but that's likely to be a limitation of trying to fry scallops. The fried oysters were large, tender and great tasting. The coleslaw was delicately seasoned and with just the right amount of dressing. Old Bay French fries were a treat. Not so much seasoning as to take away from the potato taste. Quantities were large and generous. I didn't make it to desert, which sounded great. Next time. Parking is "interesting," but was ample for the crowd at the time we dropped in. It "ain't" fancy, but if you are craving good fried sea food, it's the place to go.

Yelp
Great food! Local restaurant in the heart of Summerville. Very friendly waitstaff. They were patient & accommodating. Casual vibe of "where the locals go". Hidden gem.

Yelp
Went again tonight. Same friends from out if town, same table, different waitress. This time I tried the catfish. It wasn't as good as the flounder but it was still great. The Service was excellent this time. No rain in the forecast and it was a very nice night to sit outside. Overall, very good experience which is why I upgraded to 5 stars. Oh and we tried the Gator Bites. Everyone else loved them. I'm not a fan of the texture.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. There is so much seating here. We opted to sit outside since it was nice out and not too muggy. I ordered a Dark & Stormy for my drink and it was refreshing! For food I got the fried chicken basket with fried okra and hushpuppies. There was so much fried chicken I could not finish it! The hushpuppies were amazing and the fried okra was cut thinly just like I like it! My bf got the fish platter with the fries and the rice. The rice was delicious and he was pleasantly pleased with his meal! We heard that they make their own desserts so we had to make room for some bourbon pecan pie! Yum-my!! I definitely will be back!
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
We are frequent visitors and the food is amazing! We always receive excellent service from the friendly and helpful staff.
google avatar

Natalie B.

Yelp
I still remember visiting during their very first week of opening--back when there were only two benches and the owner was working in the back. I'm so glad they've not only survived but thrived. Having lived here for 20 years, I've seen many businesses come and go, but this place has stood the test of time. I recently brought family visiting from Texas, and once again, the food and service were outstanding. Always a wonderful experience!
google avatar

Scher S.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place!! A hidden gem!! I'm calling DDD because this place is awesome! I order the Grouper & Greens special, I wouldn't change a thing & i tried but the chef said no substitutions. I'm glad they did because this was the perfect dish AS IS!! The mudslide desert was to die for!! Vanilla & Coffee ice cream With a brownie & caramel & fudge sauce!! Absolutely delicious!
google avatar

B P.

Yelp
Wife had a salad and I got the flounder with sides. Flounder was blackened and cooked perfectly. Hush puppies were amazing, could have eaten my weight in them. Staff was friendly. Inside was pretty small but big patio area if the weather is nice out.
google avatar

Rorrie K.

Yelp
The food and drinks were amazing. My servers have always been super friendly had they have knowledge of the menu, and recommend different items. I've been seated outside all times I've been since the weather has always been nice. Great atmosphere.

Bob H.

Yelp
3xcellent "NoFrills" seafood restaurant. Aweso.e meals. I had the shrimp & grits the wife had the scallops. Both were wonderful .... large servings. The split pea soup side/ appetizer was also very tasty! Thanks to all the "Yelpers" for the excellent and accurate reviews
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Wonderful fried seafood in an open-air shack. Casual vibe. Cold beer and a big variety.

Lynn S.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is excellent and it's clean. Some of the best seafood around. I love that they can take large parties.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food!!!! This place exceeded my expectations! I ordered the flounder platter with a side of grits and OMG! The grits were the best I've had in this area! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I was in town for a work meeting and decided to find somewhere in town to stop before departing. Upon arrival, I pulled into the gravel parking lot, thinking this was either going to be really good or a waste of my time. It looks like someone crafty and skilled built the building, so again, it's going to be really good or a waste of my time. There are heaters if you're seated in the outside tented area, which I greatly appreciated. My server was amazing, and I wish I remembered her name so I could give her some props. She was truly awesome.   I ordered the blackberry margarita, and it was really good. I enjoyed it and wanted another one, but I knew I had to drive home. The flounder is a really good size. The shrimp are well-sized, too. They were both really tasty. I'm talking didn't need hot sauce delicious, but I did ask for remoulade because, overall, I'm a sauce person. The fries are like those seasoned fries. They were good. The hush puppies were good too.   I enjoyed my entire meal from start to finish to the point where I wanted to snap my fingers, have my couch, and take a "that was so good" nap. I'll be stopping when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Delicious fried oysters and great cold beer We will return for some more great seafood
google avatar

Sandi M.

Yelp
This is a quaint, rustic spot that reminds you of your low country grandmas house. The food is what you would expect from a Southern seafood kitchen but elevated a notch or two! The fresh fish was delicious, not greasy at all. The service was southern friendly and reasonably fast. If you're near Summerville, give it a try for sure.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
So glad we finally made it here. Heard a lot of great things about this place. Did not disappoint. The grouper bites are to die for.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Perfect place to enjoy an outdoor seafood meal while the weather is nice. I still think about the house salad dressing since the last time I've been!
google avatar

Erik V.

Yelp
Bring an appetite - portions are not skimpy. Enjoyed our lunch, except for the traffic noise. Not the restaurant's fault.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
What a fun gem of a restaurant! Great food, great service and fun atmosphere! I highly recommend the fishermen platter! Big enough to split (which my mom and I did) or take some for leftovers! The batter was so light and didn't over power the fish.. But that espresso martini However I saved the beer for last.. that maple bourbon pecan pie.. oh my gawd!! If you don't get it you honestly are missing out!! Can't wait to come back on my next visit!
google avatar

Zack W.

Yelp
Catfish was fresh, hot, flavorful. Huge fillet as well. The halibut bites were also hot and fresh. Fried pickles were excellent, buffalo shrimp were fantastic. Mac n cheese was cooked perfectly and had good quality cheese. Okra and hush puppies were also very good. Food came out quickly, workers were very friendly and attentive. Fair prices considering the quality of food and service. Inside, outside, and bathrooms were all super clean.
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
I've been here many times while in town for work, and the food has always been great with excellent service.

Sandi W.

Yelp
Food is a little pricey but good. Please know that they do charge a $10 cake fee if you want to celebrate an event.
google avatar

Wes A.

Yelp
It a great place ! Highly abusive! Waitress are more concerned about the tip ! Food is not what it was ! I actually had a waitress yell at me in front of others because she thought I cheated her on a time ! It turned out she got more!
google avatar

CharlieRose R.

Yelp
Great taste. Nice and hot the way seafood should be!! The food sure tasted fresh and was plentiful. I don't eat fried much anymore but the platter was delicious.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
The ambiance is as the name implies, it feels like a campsite. We ate indoors near the bar area. The blackened scallop po boy was surprisingly good as was the fries. The blackened flounder was meh. The service was good and I would try the oyster po boy if there's a next time. We are not local so that's unlikely.

Ann B.

Yelp
Fried shrimp is always DELICIOUS, meaty, not fishy, and well seasoned....Until recently when fish camp seems to have buckled to pressure from the local shrimpers to buy local. While I support local business, our local shrimp is NOT tasty as others that are wild caught. I hope Fish Camp doesn't change to local shrimp; however, I feel they may have due to recent press. My first bad experience there with nasty shrimp was last week. I spit out every piece I tried to eat. Please keep up what you were doing. Don't succumb under pressure. Get food shrimp wherever you can. Local isn't always it.
google avatar

Stacy M.

Yelp
I've been craving red beans and rice and wow! Low country fish camp over delivered! The flavor was incredible, mouth watering and writing about it makes me crave it all again! The fried flounder and shrimp were fried to perfection, not overly done and tasted superb. The hush puppies and slaw And even though we ate outside for lunch on one of the hottest days of the year, the many uses of fans made the environment comfortable. We definitely want to go back anytime we are near the area.

Anthony G.

Yelp
The food was great. Our server Patty provides great customer. A little hidden gem in Summerville.
google avatar

Joy B.

Yelp
We are new to the area, but have been twice already. We've tried a few things on the menu, from salads to fried fish platters, and have enjoyed them all. The outdoor seating w rustic appeal and homemade desserts make it a great place for dinner.

Melissa H.

Yelp
This place is great! We came here for happy hour and the owner talked to us immediately and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Alterea G.

Yelp
A very unique and warm dinning atmosphere. The service is on point and your food is beyond on time. I ordered the seafood platter, and it was so delicious and the serving was plentiful. And do try the buffalo shrimp. Every waiter and waitress was so nice and smiled. I will be going back. This is another must try. I promise you will go back again.

This place is absolutely great. My wife and I have been there a number of times and really appreciate their service and food choices. Wear your boots and jeans.

Yelp
My favorite go to for seafood! Such a comforting place , servers are always amazing. I got the crab cake special that the server recommended with old bay chips and hush puppies and I was so pleased. It was absolutely delicious
