Outstanding arts and crafts location. I think there are over 200 artists studios covering the three floors. Best day to go is on a Saturday when they also have an outdoor market.

Google
This is a very cool place. We are from the New Orleans area, and this place felt more artsy than the French Quarter. If you are a creative person or just someone who admires creativity, check it out!

Google
As a Huntsville native, it really makes me happy that this former shoe mill has been transformed into a wonderful creativity mill, a haven for artists of all styles to work, display & sell their creations! It is the largest, privately owned facility of its kind in the U.S. Touring all 3 floors with 150+ studios may take all day or at least several visits. An endless supply of murals, antiquities from the original Mill & other artistic backdrops for photos/snaps can be found, even in the stairwells & bathrooms. You'll find tattoos, glass crafters, handmade jewelry, marionettes, clothing, costumes, oddities, sculpters, painters, pop culture retailers & public classes are offered on pottery, blacksmithing, piano & so much more! Fun ceiling swings hang on Floor 2 & several restaurants & benches are scattered throughout. Lowe hosts several annual pop culture conventions, concerts & movies on the dock, public art exhibits & an annual Rocky Horror Picture Show interactive in the fall. There is truly "something for everyone" here & we look forward to every single visit. Cre8tive Sistas is our favorite studio! From a real estate standpoint, there are many great opportunities to live in or near this amazing arts district!

Google
We had fun exploring the many shops and watching all the exhibits. Enjoyed talking with the blacksmith, pottery, jewelry and painting artists. Several food and drink locations and a nice arcade with fun entertainment. Kid friendly.

Google
This is an old cotton mill that's been turned into an arts and entertainment venue. There are many, many artist studios, even a couple of tattoo shops, a place to learn dancing, just tons of stuff to see. There are multiple food and drinking options. It's a nice way to spend the day. Ne aware that it's only open from Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. There's a lot of handicap parking and there are elevators for getting to the 2nd floor.

Susan Peele

Google
So unique and inspiring! I'm an artist and I could see myself thriving amongst fellow artists. This place is for everyone and everyone is for it! I'm obsessed!!!! I would want to live here

Lemarcus Ray

Google
Lowe mills is a fun place to visit. Great spot to bring family and friends especially the ones that love the art life. In my opinion the cat hallway is always fun to walk by.

Joe Arrigo

Google
One of the best art and local business venues I've ever been to. Every time we come to Huntsville it's #1 on our list of things to do. It depends on the day you go for which vendors are open, but either way you are going to be impressed by the selection and uniqueness of the experience. The building itself is massive, and how they've converted this old mill into such a tremendous space is amazing.

Yelp
If you are an artist or you appreciate art, this is a very cool place that I think you will love. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainmeny is the largest privately owned arts facility in the United States. Located in an old textile mill. It has 152 working studios for over 200 artists and makers, 7 galleries, a theatre, community garden, and performance venues. There are even two swings!! There are plenty of items to buy, so much to look at, and you can even take art and dance classes.

Yelp
FYI: This review doesn't reflect Lowe Mill as an entity, just one particular business. I heard about Embrace Candles on tv and social media and decided to try them out. I knew they offered candle making classes and even though I've taken one before at a different store, I thought that this would be a great date night experience since it was around Valentine's Day. When booking the Saturday class, I noticed on the website it listed a 4 pm class and a 4:15 pm class, which was confusing. I decided to pick the 4:15 pm class and took a screenshot, just for my records. We arrived a little before 4 pm and attempted to check in with the cashier. We told the cashier we were there for the 4 pm class since that was the first time listed on their site and was then told by the cashier and another employee that the class actually started at 4:30 pm. I then tried to explain that their website was a little confusing because it listed 2 different times for the class, but the cashier wasn't trying to actively listen and/or understand. She then proceeded to go to their website and try to "prove" to me that the class actually started at 4:30 pm. As a customer, her actions made us feel like she was trying to prove we were wrong and they were right. See here's the thing: We didn't mind that we were early. We would rather be early than late. However, instead of her just offering for us to have a seat or to walk around the store or even walk around Lowe Mill .... like at least try to offer something (again only 30 minutes early), again her objective seemed like she wanted to make us feel like we were wrong. She even went a step further with trying to explain that maybe we were looking at times for the previous evening's class and so we got the times mixed up. I then proceeded to show her my screenshot of the 4:15 pm time I signed up for and she didn't even apologize. After deciding to leave and walk around Lowe Mill, by the time we got back at 4:30 pm, we noticed other customers were already seated and were already picking out their vessels. Now I have traveled miles to take this class and wanted to take the class as a treat for myself as well as my date and we were treated in a very disrespectful manner. Poor customer service that evening at Embrace Candles. If you decide to patronize this business, I hope you have a better experience than we had.

Yelp
We made a day trip to Lowe Mill to see the John Lennon exhibit. That was interesting, but there was so much more to see. If you are interested in art, meeting artists in their studios, and also taking in some exhibits, this is the place to go. We were there on a Thursday, and unfortunately, there weren't very many artists in their studios, but we could look in their windows and see what they were working on. We met a couple of artists and saw about half of this large complex. I will go back.
google avatar

Lorri D.

Yelp
What an amazing place to spend the day. It is an old factory that has been converted into the largest art studio in the United States. We met a variety of artists and enjoyed watching them work. The Dragons Lair is a great place to get a drink too.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting Lowe Mill feels like being back in art school and wandering the studios seeing what fresh creative magic is happening all around you. My latest Happy Place.
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
What a great place to go!! Tons of artists, some featuring styles that are not seen anywhere else. You can stroll for hours. And, they have a nice place to have crepes. And, thet have a cozy Meadery called Ravenwood. Service and mead were delightful
google avatar

Cristy G.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to walk around in Huntsville. There is so much cool art to see, cool shops to shop at and food to try!
google avatar

Joan W.

Yelp
Store elevator has been unusable for 18 months, therefore half of the shops are closed. Some of the good artists shops were closed, during operational hours. Stairwells had a nasty odor.

Yelp
We stopped by to see Truman's pottery but was not open on Thursday. we called and went back on Friday. The Truman's were so very kind and friendly. We purchased 3 plates, two coffee mugs and a toothbrush holder from their combined shop. Our family purchased a beautiful leaf plate and bowl. We also enjoyed the fused glass shop and the plant shop. We window shopped as many other vendors were not open. A fun time just browsing.
google avatar

Davina G.

Yelp
Such an amazing venue. Saturday was full of tons of artists selling all types of handmade goodies outside the mill. I bought jewelry handmade silkscreen t-shirt's, crocheted items, cool hair clips, there was SO much more, just ran out of time, should have come earlier as they pack up at 4pm. Inside the mill, tons of working artist studios, many selling items, everyone so friendly, incredible reuse building project. Will be back every time I come to Huntsville.

Yelp
Ok..... What the heck Huntsville!!! How is it that the city that is this small has such an amazing infrastructure of artists. First I know sometimes my reviews get long so the only real take away from this that you NEED to go because no matter what I say in this review I'm going to miss something. This place is an old mill that has been utilized and re-purposed throughout history. There's plenty on the website that will tell you more about it historic background but what it currently is doing is providing facilities to every manner of artist you could wish for. Wander through multiple floors of unique shops from drawing and painting and photography, too glass and clay, moving right into a coffee roaster a Meadery a whiskey distillery, crêpes and a place that makes artesian popsicles (seriously). There's a black box with Theatre, and the list just keeps going on. This is one of those places where you show up and you don't really know what to expect, and then suddenly you're looking at your watch realizing that four hours have gone into a dark hole and you have drank a horn of mead while wandering around looking at black light photography and trying to figure out what your Saturday turned into. Best adventure in Huntsville - go check it out
google avatar

Jon F.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect when we stumbled onto his place. The history, the architecture, it all comes together in a neat experience. I loved going through everything as much as I did looking at the infrastructure: the walls, the flooring, the ceiling... all of it tells a fantastical history. Lots of great artists doing their thing. As for food? Honestly, the food scene was nothing my palate appreciates, but the chocolate candy place was pretty good.

Yelp
Lowe Mill was originally a textile mill that opened in 1901 (Huntsville's fifth textile mill). The mill provided housing to the employees and the area around the mill quickly developed into one of the first suburbs in the Huntsville area - including general store, bank, school and of course a church. In the 40's the mill was repurposed by a shoe company that produced a majority of the jungle boots that were worn by US soldiers. This sparked a rejuvenation in the area and was in place until the late 70's. Up next, the latest owners converted this place into the facility it is today - Lowe Mill ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT. This is the largest privately owned arts venue in the south. In addition to the art spaces, that guests are encouraged to visit and interact with the artists, there are plenty of food, drink and entertainment options as well. On a warm day the space out back can be virtually overrun with food trucks, music and people of all ages enjoying the space. Really cool space - I've enjoyed my few visits here, and look forward to coming back again.

Yelp
I can't believe it took me so long to find this place. They basically took an old mill and turned it into a bunch of shopping & art booths. There are a few restaurants and cafes in here as well. Really cool concept and repurposing of a building. We came to find the new Dragon Forge Cafe. This is such a cool place! Definitely coming back to try other things.

Yelp
I miss the days before Lowe Mill expanded - back when Happy Tummy was a food truck out back and the footprint was much smaller and more intimate. I enjoyed attending one of my UAH painting class classmate's extraordinary art exhibits (Andy Winn in case you are interested, super talented creative guy! http://www.cumberlandgallery.com/andrew-winn-page). The large (at that time) gallery was fabulous for his oversized works on display against the exposed brick, with plenty of breathing room to enjoy each and every piece at your leisure. If I recall, it was opening night for this show and he had wine and snacks out which is always a nice touch. It was more of a functioning artists' gallery space at that time, and it felt cozy and friendly, and well, *cool.* I am happy that so many *love* LM and enjoy its growth with its vastness and outdoor concerts, but for me, I was happy with it's previous iteration when it was less hipster, instagram-worthy, and less "flea market" and convoluted feeling. Do give Lowe Mill a visit - I'm sure you will find something you will absolutely *love* there and stop by Happy Tummy and tell Catherine I said "hi!"

Yelp
Loew Mill is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. We started visiting the Vegetarian food truck outside. The food was fantastic and plentiful. Then, on to visiting the large number of art shops across several floors. I ended up with a great painting and everyone else left with various items. Also, feels so good to support local artists. This place needs to remain a mainstay.

Jamie Z.

Yelp
Fantastic arts facility, makers spaces & food. Highly recommend a visit! Support your local makers!
google avatar

Yelp
It's a very hipster kind of vibe. It's nice to browse around and just to explore. Lots to see. I've only been here once and it was quite empty because of COVID. Not sure how it is on the norm. I think they also have diff events or that's what it seems like.

Greg M.

Yelp
Used to love this place until recently. Just found out the elevators are broken and it makes it for me to get to the second or third floor as I am in a wheel chair. No longer wheelchair accessible. When anyone asks about the elevators Lowe Mill does not respond. I will never go there again.

Bettina D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Every visit is delightful and we always discover something new. A charming gem in Huntsville.

Aralyn T.

Yelp
I love visiting Lowe Mill. It's one of my favorite places to bring visiting family and friends too. I love art and learning about different mediums, and this is a great place to be around other creative people. There's a lot to look at and learn, and so much beautiful art to admire. Support your local artists!

Yelp
A beautiful space and a must see when visiting Huntsville. The place houses an array of visual arts and also has restaurants you can stop by to eat. Really enjoyed seeing all the different types of art from photography, pottery, painting and probably my favorite a whiskey distillery. The building alone has a historic charm worth appreciating. It's pet and family friendly!

Grace G.

Yelp
Love to visit here and see whatever new stuff they have going on! Planning to make another visit soon! Pay attention to the hours to make sure you are there when things are open to get the best experience.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Lowe Mill is Huntsville's secret gem! From interesting art pieces, talking to the artists themselves, free concerts, and delicious popsicles from Suzy's you can easily spend an enjoyable afternoon here. The gallery besides Suzy's in the main building has revolving exhibitions of some very talented artists. It is definitely a place to checkout!
google avatar

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Stopped by the arts district hoping to kill some time and grab some coffee. I had no idea what I was walking into when I pulled up. This is a great collaborative art space: from clay to paint to iron to gamer processors, this gallery/space offers it all!
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
This venue acted very unprofessional by leading me on with asking if I would like them to book a venue in the Huntsville area for me. I said "yes." He said he had something and then responded a few minutes later with what's written below: I'll get you booked if you're definitely available and are okay with the venue. I'm definitely available What's the venue? My butt.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
As a lover of art and museums, I thoroughly enjoyed my little date here. It was so interesting seeing all of the variety of individual artist studios within Lowe Mill. I love the swings located by the window area. A great spot for a photo op. There's also Alchemy located within, which is a little coffee lounge. If you have a sweet tooth, Pizzelle's Confection is located right outside the building. Definitely a place worth visiting if you're the artsy type, and even if you aren't, it's still an experience worth while.
google avatar

Fernando P.

Yelp
I love Lowe Mill, it's so fun to see all the different artists and their amazing works. I enjoy the art shows that are showcased in the different galleries and enjoy the hipster vibes this place gives off. This place is so welcoming and is something that is not typical of Huntsville. Please come by if you ever feel the need to stop at a place with local businesses and a diverse accumulation of ideas and personalities.

Yelp
I was so happy to stumble upon this place. It reminds me of the Goat Farm in Atlanta. It's a quirky old mill that's been transformed into a beautiful place for artists, jewelry makers, bakers, thespians, sculptors, glass blowers, etc. They have the Artist Market every Saturday 1-4PM and I highly recommend it. I bought a piece from The Red Goat Gallery (you should bargain - you'll get a great deal,) watched artists working, talked to a glass blower, smelled some pretty deelish bread, and just got to take in the awe of a place that is singularly unique. LOVE it. I posted a pic here that should sum it up. :) If you haven't been , you're missing out. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the elevator. You must ride on it. oO +

Yelp
Lowe Mill is my favorite place to spend hours at!! They have all types of local art and all the food places are amazing!!! It's dog friendly and kid friendly. On some Saturdays they have the artist market and if you haven't been I definitely suggest it. It's a great place to take pictures, shop and eat. I love support local and this place is definitely one to do so at.
google avatar

Anastasia S.

Yelp
Yay to building recycling! Lowe Mill is a cool hipster place with all kinds of artistic spaces and classes from painting to stained glass.
google avatar

Fritz L.

Yelp
I come here a lot. They've always got events going on. The coffee shop rock's, the beer is good, the tea is fine, the chocolate is amazing, and the food is scrumptious. And the artists! SO MANY ARTIST!!!! And their stuff is for sale! Be cool and buy local! If you're from out of town, you will love your experience here. Unless, of course, you hate food, coffee, tea, chocolate, and/or art.
google avatar

Faith B.

Yelp
Love love love this place! I just moved to Huntsville from LA so it's really awesome to be around super cool artistic people! I love getting the Fairy hair too!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Simply, awesome and genuine ambiance for the creative mind! I wish there would be properties like this in Miami area. Lots of options of work and talent to look & feel the work being done and sold. The best environment I have experienced in the US. This is a must visit! For the whole family. Pros: - great location in Huntsville - ample parking - good for the true coffee fanatic (Alchemy)! - spaces are well laid out, studios and offices have great light and window openings to see from inside the walkway - halls have ample walking space - plenty of excellent food options Cons - none found yet! Simply love it! Will be a definite regular customer!

Haley C.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in Huntsville. The only thing I don't like is that the hours are very screwed up and I don't understand when everyone is open. The past couple of time I've been, only 2 stores were open. If you come at the right time though, it's really fun. I could stay there for hours if shops were open.

Kenzie J.

Yelp
I love the mill it's always fun and there is always something new! You have to wear mask but that's okay they are doing the best they can.

Yelp
We came to the Lowe Mill on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to explore and check it out. It is a huge building - and we were surprised at how many people were there, but after visiting, I can see why this place draws such a crowd. The 1st level is part galleries/artist studios and partly a cafe (Yummy Tummy) and an event space - on the day we visited, there was a Hi-Fi Weddings event. We initially visited that part of the space and had free cupcake and cake samples, visited a winery table and even saw a bachelorette party strip show advertising stripping classes. The vendors all seemed so friendly and talented - whether or not you are planning a wedding or another event in Huntsville or beyond. The rest of the space was all artist spaces and we had a great time walking around- perusing art, talking to artists, and popping in the occasional space. We particularly enjoyed the glass blowing studio, the cigar box guitar place, the little book store, the bread store, and a few of the vendors who had set up along the way. The building is so incredible- the windows, the installations and the people really make it a unique place - reminds me of the big loft buildings and artist spaces in Atlanta that I love so much. A wonderful place to spend an afternoon - wish we had been able to try Yummy Tummy- the sandwiches all seemed so unique. Definitely will be back here...
google avatar

Lindsey H.

Yelp
Went here on a saturday during the artist market- such a cool old building with lots to offer: food, art and media wise. Protip: Don't forget to go to all 3 floors, ride the pulley elevator, and explore the side shops on the side building especially the chocolate shop (YUM!).The best way to describe this place is that you have to drive through the ghetto to get here, it's an old factory that is like asheville minus the dirty hippies.
google avatar

Charles G.

Yelp
About eight years ago I went here once for a Face to Face improv show on either the second or third floor and felt like I had showed up in the middle of some seedy porn set. That gave me a horrible impression of Lowe Mill for years, so when my wife told me she had gone there to eat at Happy Tummy I was very sketched out. She apparently found my impression laughable based on her experience there, so we headed to that awesome little deli for a Saturday lunch. We got there before the restaurant opened, so we milled about on the second floor and saw some interesting booths and stores, mostly of arts and crafts. I'm not going to say most of it was up our alley, but I've definitely changed my idea from "seedy porn set" to "trippy hippy market", which is definitely several steps up. One thing we really enjoyed is that dogs seem welcome here, so if there is any music we might enjoy in their summer concerts we'll be taking at least one of our dogs out to enjoy it.
google avatar

Yelpowitz E.

Yelp
It's a fun place to be. There are many kinds of arts and crafts for sale here. Some great paintings, jewelry and other odd things (this was pretty awesome) like guitars made out of a wooden cigar box. Gotta visit this place if you are in town!
google avatar

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
This was my heaven while visiting Huntsville. We stumbled upon the Lowe Mill while looking for a place to eat lunch. Three floors of endless art studios, shops, eateries and more. We spent 3+ hours walking the halls and wings taking in all the awesomeness of the local artists. The mill holds a lot of its structural integrity from when it was in production 100 years ago. The artists are local folks who enjoy taking a break and chatting with visitors. All studios have large windows to offer a look inside the artistic processes. Our annual vacation to Huntsville will now include a yearly visit to Lowe Mill. Great vibe, great people, great times.
google avatar

Monica Y.

Yelp
Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment is the place to see arts of all kinds, explore creativity and be inspired. If you have visitors in from out of town, this is a great place to bring them for a couple of hours. From fine oil painting to glass blowing, to photography and sculpture, you'll fine all kinds of art! I heard that it is is the largest private arts center in the country!
google avatar

Joanna D.

Yelp
Lowe Mill is definitely my favorite spot to go and enjoy my afternoons. I love taking people who have never been and letting them explore all the nooks and crannies that Love Mill offers. The art is phenomenal, as are all of the people here. The atmosphere is wonderful and the events they host, like concerts on the docks, are great. Anyone wanting a great and inexpensive way to spend the afternoon should definitely stop by here!!
google avatar

Karen A.

Yelp
I must be the only person in Huntsville to not enjoy Lowe Mill. Had heard wonderful comments from friends. Very disappointing. We did enjoy the coffee and excellent chocolate at the chocolate shop. Will go there again. I liked the repurposing of an old building but the rest left me uninterested. Too bad as I hoped to bring out of town guests here.

Christine P.

Yelp
My partner and I were referred to check this place out. I work and volunteer for many arts organizations in California and other places. I have been a performance artist in my day. I feel I was immensely disrespected and abused today. My partner and I both have medical conditions which prevent us from being able to wear a mask because we have breathing difficulties and challenges and they are mentioned as medical exemptions under the Center for Disease Control. Really there is no proof of any disability required for businesses that I know of unless you work for a business and you have to take time off. Then you have to get a doctor's letter but not in this case. The woman at the security gate asked if we had masks and we said yes to which she replied just keep them on you because my partner told her that we couldn't wear them but she still let us in. It was about 5:30 at night and we knew they closed at 6 p.m. but we just wanted to take a walk through and then come back at another time. We walked around the first floor and the second floor and talked to a few people and all of a sudden this man named Mick told us we had to leave because we were not wearing a mask. I responded that I had my disability card from New York with my picture on it and that even though I did not have to show it to him by law I was going to do that so I did. I then elaborated that I had asthma and my partner had sleep apnea which are two of the medical exemptions for wearing a mask and he said we still had to leave the building. I told him I worked in the arts and he said I know which of course he does not know anything about me because he's never met me before so that was a lie. Then as I was leaving I mentioned the Center for Disease Control to which he responded he knew someone who worked there and I said well if you know someone who works there you should know what the rules and the laws are exactly. No response. I also let him know that the two water fountains were open to the public to use and most places I've been to recently don't have the water fountains working to which he responded We're going to look into it. I told him I was going to report this to the local news station which is looking for comments on how businesses are acting towards Covid. As we were leaving I took a picture of the water fountains. Anyone looking at this review should spend their time elsewhere in other art buildings and cultural attractions and not go here.

Yelp
We had so much fun! I really hope they make the nerf fights a regular event. This made my sons day! My son called this the best day ever.

Yelp
I love Lowe Mill....it is such a creative haven, a little hive of creativity and innovation. There is something for everyone there. I can't resist the chocolate at Pizzelle's and the sandwiches at Happy Tummy. Like looking at all the artisan work and the little miniatures at Mastermind Models and Miniatures. Have done a weaving class at the textile studio and enjoyed it too! Oh and you really have to try the ice cream at Suzy's Pops too!

Tyler B.

Yelp
A truly unique place. Our area is very fortunate to have a place where so many different talents can be displayed under one roof! The only altercation I have ever had there was from an unhappy employee who was most likely having a really bad day! I recommend you support them so they will stay around!!

Laura O.

Yelp
Love the eclecticism here. So much to enjoy. I've taken my kids here many times for music events and to stroll through and look at different artists' works. Great place to shop for unique gifts too.
