Loewengrube

"This building has been home to a restaurant since the 16C, making it one of the oldest in Bolzano. Today it houses an elegant restaurant that serves a balanced combination of traditional local dishes and Mediterranean options, the latter including a few fish-based recipes such as the octopus and fish soup. The attractive wine cellar boasts a selection of approximately 1 000 wines from the region and elsewhere in Italy, as well as a choice of labels from further afield." - Michelin Inspector

A refined blend of Italian elegance and Tyrolean soul Löwengrube in Bolzano delivers a modern twist on regional cuisine, blending classy Italian finesse with hearty South Tyrolean roots. From Schweinskopf to seafood, every dish is carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The tartare was outstanding, and the tagliatelle with duck ragout brought surprising depth and creativity. Service was flawless, and the wine lounge setting adds just the right touch of sophistication without feeling stiff. A must for anyone who appreciates elevated local flavors done right.

Great evening here, lovely Italian-French-Tyrolean combo food, super friendly service, hands down the best meal of our 10 day trip in Austria and Südtirol, great wine from Bolzano. Highly recommended, excellent value too.

Löwengrube is our go to place when we are in town. Again and again the kitchen surprises us with an our standing quality. Our favourite dish is the tortellini al ragu. Wine In terms of wine there is a whole univser to be discovered. Already for the aperitif you can enjoy light bubbles. Also for non-alcoholic aperitif the menu has more than the regular one to two drinks to offer. Pricing Yes it is more pricey than - let’s say - a regular restaurant across the street. However, it is very much worth the money. We have been to pricier place yet to us Löwengrube is the best value for money taking into account the quality of food and the overall architectural and interior design. Atmosphere The staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable about there dishes as well as their wine. The music is atmospheric and just about the right beats per minute and style for such as setting. Interior design This is just sublime. The chosen materials and textures create a comforting feeling. I particularly like the way how the entrance area is dominated by a lounge like setting while the back room is a more traditionally Alto Adige type of wooden room. I’d describe the interior design as a blend of modern lines with the cosy intimacy of alpine character of Alto Adige. If you wish to spend a lovely evening with a glass of wine or a whole 3 dish menu Löwengrube is your spot.

We had here the New Year’s dinner. Booked in advance, payed a deposit as well. As soon as we arrived, we were a bit lost - nobody welcomed us, so we had to find somebody who could help us and lead to our table. Apart from that, everything else was great. We liked all the food served (apart from a couple of things, but it was just according our personal tastes). We also took a bottle of wine to share. Our waitress was very nice, explained us all the dishes, proposed to have some breaks between the servings. We left a bit before 12am, so don’t know if they made a countdown or something else.

Hands down, this is the best place I've eaten at in Italy. Everything I had was exquisite; the food, the service, the ambiance, the wine. I came here for an appetizer and wine one night, and knew I had to come back another night for a 3 course meal. Items tried include the scallops with green pea/mint puree, tagliolini with sword fish, black forest cake, and a salmon appetizer.

This meal was one of the best we had in Italy (truly). Every taste and texture was spot on. The sparkling wine we had was also local and perfect. The atmosphere is casual refined, so there is a comfortability and kindness matched with amazing execution. The owner Michael is welcoming, attentive and gives wonderful recommendations for other local restaurants.
