The Best Breakfast and Brunch Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Boiled and baked, Lox, Stocks & Bagels in a South Eugene Safeway parking lot not far from Spencer’s Butte scratches an itch for a quality bagel sandwich. Baskets behind the counter overflow with classics such as onion, pumpernickel, sesame, salt, asiago, and jalapeño cheese speckled bagels alongside bialys and sugar puffs. Top your bagel sandwich with traditional accouterments like house-smoked whitefish salad or locally cured lox and capers, or go East Coast-style with a pork roll egg breakfast sandwich. — Brenna Houck" - Brenna Houck

Google
A top recommendation from our Airbnb host, my brother-in-law, nephew, and I popped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning around 9am. There was a line, but it moves quickly. The bagels come out warm and chewy and they have a variety from sesame to chocolate chip to blueberry. They have a number of cream cheeses, but no sweet option. The sausage, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich on sesame was filling. Coming from the East Coast and used to New York City bagels, I found the bagels to be fine. My relatives, coming from small town Washington, loved the bagels. They also offer a full coffee menu. My hazelnut latte was basic. It got the job done, but wouldn’t win any awards.

Google
Love this place for a good breakfast! Bagels are super tasty and soft and staff is always so helpful. Would recommend 10/10.

Google
I adore this place. Most definitely the best bagel spot in Eugene or Springfield. If it’s busy, it’s not gonna be fast but that’s just how the cookie crumbles when you’re at a place that really cares about their food. Half the time that I go I get a second bagel for later. And the staff are always great. 10/10. One of my favorites.

Google
Literally the BEST bagels in Eugene, my entire family goes feral for these things. And there is such incredible service! We had Danny, Bri, and Cece today and the service was phenomenal! Warm, kind, and definitely a place you want to go back to!

Google
Coming from South Florida, it was easy to find real New York style bagels. When we moved to Oregon, it wasn't so easy. The bagels need to be boiled first, then baked to get that crunchy outside & chewy inside. Lox, Stocks & Bagels does exactly that. We drove 1.5 hours to get there but boy, oh boy! It was well worth it. We came home with 3 dozen bagels and will be heading back for more in about another 2 weeks. Kudos to you! You got it right.

Google
Best bagel place in Eugene and Springfield. Great customer service and delicious bagels. They're locally owned and I love supporting our local businesses here in Eugene. Stop by Lox Stocks and Bagels and you will not be disappointed. They are also great with kids.

Google
Small, simple, but full of flavor. The staff was super friendly. I don't eat bagels but they smelled absolutely delicious. I also heard other customers giving compliments about how good the bagels are. I had a white fish salad that was top notch. Almost everything can be made into a wrap or salad if I'm not mistaken.

Google
Update 2/16/24: we've been regularly getting bagel breakfast sandwiches for the past 2 years here, but today's didn't live up to the normal standard. The bagel wasn't toasted like I think it normally is and the cheese seemed like a cheap sliced American instead of a good cheddar. It didn't melt like it normally does. The bagel also seemed smaller. I'm hoping this is just an "off" day and not a regular thing. Previous review: Stopped in today and grabbed some breakfast. So happy we did! The options are fantastic! The employees were all friendly and helpful. They had some great suggestions. The bagels are a perfect crispy outside, chewy inside. Can't wait to go back to try the Mediterranean cream cheese! I heard it described after I had already ordered mine and it sounds soooo good!

Yelp
Hold up...I tried Lox, Stocks and Bagels for the first time today: STRAIGHT !! HUUUGE SHOUTOUT to the staff; Very Welcoming!! #BriMakesItTherapistFriendly

Yelp
Tasty bagels! We like to get a half dozen or dozen to take home to enjoy for breakfast. There is a charge for slicing bagels in half for you, and we are usually too cheap to pay for it. Favorite: salt bagel and asiago bagel, bialys are tasty too! Customer service is consistently good. I like that there is a kids table with some toys and coloring items to entertain little ones. Easily accessible bathrooms. So nice to have a tasty bagel spot in South Eugene where the options are more limited!

Yelp
Aromatic. That's the first thing that wafts through your olfactory. A pleasant and warm sensation just flows through the space. It's amazing. The breakfast bagel sandwich we ordered were tasty in all the right ways. five stars for food. Two things stood out to me and seemed to indicate the quality of this establishment: 1. The line that's wraps around the lobby. 2. The number of people who were greeted by name and then informed: "we still have the _____" or "just 7 more minutes until______." It was certainly nice to see the way the staff greeted and interacted with the locals. It made me wish I lived in the quaint neighborhood that surrounds this strip. The line that curled about the lobby was tough for several reasons: 1. One must uncover where the end of the line begins when you walk in. 2. One must decide on their level of comfortability in communicating the end of the line when other walk in. 3. One must find a spot to stand once they have ordered and are waiting on the bagels. There is a seating area, but it felt like those spots should be reserved for individuals who have their food and want to eat in. Some direction to the madness would have improved my experience.

Yelp
Personally Not a local to the Eugene area, but hands down one of the best bagel spots there is! The girl taking my order had great vibes and really made sure I was taken care of. The bagel sandwich maker was efficient and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. I got the jalapeño cheese bagel that just had came out of the oven, but I got it a little more toasted.. along with bacon, cheese and egg, it was sooo good - I wish I lived closer to be able to enjoy it more often. Highly recommend stopping in for a meal!

Yelp
I don't normally eat bagels, but my friend convinced me to get one from here and I'm glad she did. I got a chocolate chip bagel with peanut butter and it was too good! It was the perfect breakfast stop before my flight back home. I somehow ended up eating the whole thing, which I never do with bagels. I would love to come back here next time I'm in town to try one of their other, non-simple bagels so I can really see what this place has to offer.

Colette S.

Yelp
Best bagels in Eugene hands down no competition. Always friendly staff and great vibes.

Yelp
Great food friendly staff. Favorite breakfast place for my wife and I. Will come back over and over

Yelp
Recently, a helpful Yelper posted pictures of the new menu here. There was one item that really stood out -- a pork belly bahn-mi bagel sandwich ($10), with carrot, daikon, cilantro, jalepeno, cucumber, sweet chili sauce + mayo. I needed to have this, so I went the next day. The person taking my order suggested getting it on a sesame bagel, which was a good idea. All in all, it was quite tasty and a nice luxurious way to start the day. My only complaint would be that I didn't detect any jalapeño and I was hoping for a little heat. Also, I think it is best served w/ a toasted bagel to contrast with the soft pork belly, next time I'll ask for that. Next time I want to try their sandwich with the prosciutto, pickled onion & sriracha!

Yelp
Delicious bagels, delicious bagel sandwiches, fantastic cold brew, the savory bialys are scrumptious. They have a definite interest in providing great service. I'm a fan.

August W.

Yelp
Best Bagel in Eugene! Give 'em a try- these ain't your dinner roll variety found in most "bagel outlets" around town, they're boiled and baked to perfection & can be frozen too!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
The only actual bagels in Eugene. Don't wait too late in the day (like after 12:30) or they may be out of bagels, certainly of your favorite flavor. Other "bagel" places serve bagel-shaped bread. Which most Oregonians (and much of theist coast) are used to. Try their product and discover something close to what you'd get in NYC. There is a difference. It might nt matter to you. That's fine. No shame in liking what you like. Kraft Mac-n-cheese has legions of loyal followers who embrace it as their go-to comfort food. These bagels are like a trip to NYC at 1/600th the cost of a trip.

Yelp
Best bagels in Eugene, hands down. Well worth standing in line for. Love the staff, too.

Griffin S.

Yelp
I've known Max for a long time and know that anything he touches = gold! I live in Vegas and haven't had a chance to try one of their bagels but I am confident that they are top notch. If you are in Eugene, stop by and grab a bagel, you won't be disappointed!

Dave B.

Yelp
Hands down the best bagels in Eugene. Super friendly too. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often

Yelp
Always good food. Super nice people. Place was remodeled a few years ago and looks great.

Yelp
Moving to Eugene, one of the things we were most worried about missing were real bagels. After trying a few other places and being disappointed we found here and can not be happier. Absolutely delicious bagels done the right way. Of course the usuals (onion, everything, garlic sesame etc) are great but the jalapeño cheddar bagels are absolute perfection. And we can not rave enough about the smoked salmon cream cheese. The salmon smoked in house and has just enough dill and chives to give it an herby tang. This has become our weekly obsession. A dozen doesn't even last us 3 days!
google avatar

Yelp
About time there is a picture on the internet of their updated menu. yummy yummy in my tummy

Bradley J.

Yelp
Best lox I've had and I'm a bagel chaser. Lox were fresh and the bagel has just the right amount of crunch. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend.

Yelp
On of our most frequented spots in Eugene, we had to come back out to support them after a temporary closure and change of ownership. Everything was just as high quality and fresh as always with all the classics still available. The menu has been re-written on the board and it looks clean and easy to read now. The everything bagel is a go-to for me, they include salt in the everything seasoning which really helps brings out the flavor. I am also a huge fan of their chocolate chip bagel, they use really high quality chocolate chunks that make for a delicious and indulgent treat. My partner is a huge fan of the pork roll as a hearty and filling sandwich. They often have little doggy bagels available that we grab as a treat for our pup. So glad to see a neighborhood favorite back in business!

J B.

Yelp
This is the only real bagel place in Eugene that I have found. All others seem to make bread in the shape of a bagel. This place is tucked into a small strip mall in south Eugene but it is worth the drive if you don't live in the area.
google avatar

Richard W.

Yelp
It is a hustle to only give 20, 25 and 30% tip options for quick tip options. These are not the actions of an honest business

Bethany L.

Yelp
Best bagels in Eugene by far. Love the people who work here. No matter how busy they are or how long the line is, they are always friendly. Love the oldies/classic music that one front of house woman plays.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
So sad. I never thought I'd say a place in Eugene used too much salt. I like not having to make my own fresh some days, but like a French omelette this clearly (opaquely?) is not possible. Still better than Los Angeles or San Francisco, but pathetic.

Yelp
I arrived to this place filled with wonder, optimism, curiosity, and most of all an aching hunger. I had heard the tales of the chedder jalapeño bagel with mediterranean cream cheese, so i knew what i had to do. When it arrived to my table i think i shed a tear from the sheer beauty and smell of the warm cream cheese. I dont know if i can describe in words what i experienced when i took my first bite. I believe all of my chakras aligned, and i gained a higher power in that moment. I started to levetate as i began to devour more and more into the bagel. When my last bite came i almost broke into a sob, but instead, i decided i would come back tomorrow. I will be coming here as many days as i can and i will be spending all of the money i have. I love you guys. Thank you.

Marshall D.

Yelp
No doubt the best bagels in Eugene, maybe even Oregon! The staff is super warm and professional and the specialty coffee is waaaaay better than other shops. It's a delicious gem and worth the visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved them before the change in managment, went back to get same bagels after the management changed, and I wanted to check them out. The service was great, even better than before. Some of the bagels were slightly doughy, though this may have been a random chance thing. Others were fine. The bagels are slightly smaller than the ones made under the previous management.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
The best everything bagel I've ever had. Full stop. And on top of that, literally, also the best lox bagel I've ever had. So. Much. Flavor. Friendly, low-key, local vibe throughout. Great service. It's a bit out of the way from the downtown but it's 100% worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
WOW! Amazing staff and amazing bagels! Was craving a bagel and I came across this place. With a long line I didn't see too many bagels out but was informed I could preorder ones from the oven (only a 10 minute wait). This was so seriously worth it. The bagels and cream cheese were so fresh, warm, and flavorful. The everything bagel was absolutely to die for. Would highly recommend that with the chive cream cheese. I know they also do bagel sandwiches too (something I have to try next time). I know they are under new ownership as of recent and I hadn't been prior to the change. With that said, the staff and bagels were stunning. Would highly recommend if you are wanting bagels.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
For my first visit, I got an Asiago bagel toasted and with butter. (I didn't want to hide the bagel's flavor under cream cheese.) I also got a blueberry bagel to go for the following day. The Asiago bagel was really tasty--a nice balance of savory cheese with the simple but tasty bread of the bagel. It had a great toast on it but way too much butter (to the point that it ran down my hand while taking a bite.) I'll know for next time to ask for less butter. The blueberry bagel--even though some people think sweet bagels shouldn't exist--was delicious. The blueberries were very tasty and gave a strong (but now overpowering) flavor of the fruit. I'll definitely come back here for bagels in the future!

Riley C.

Yelp
literally the best bagel I've ever eaten and the people that work there are so funny and nice 10/10 I love it
google avatar

Nikolai S.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Of all bagel places in Eugene, this one has genuinely good bagels. Well made. Friendly environment. Excellent.

Allison K.

Yelp
best bagels ever!! staff is always super nice and awesome. if there is a line out the door it is still worth it. i highly recommend coming here
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I'm from Brooklyn. I'm very particular about my bagels. Lox, Stocks &Bagels serves bagels as good as any you will ever find anyplace. Bagels and Lox here is to die for. When I miss New York I stop in for a breakfast pick me up.

Yelp
Typically I avoid leaving bad reviews but then again I have never had such a bad experience here. Previously a fan of this bagel spot, I will no longer be a customer and will make sure that anyone I know avoids it. If I could give a negative or zero stars I would. My partners parents were up visiting for the weekend, and were on their last day here. We both raved to them about this place and how good their bagels are, but once we got here the service was awful. This all occurred Sunday 9/19/21 around 11am. His parents were already there waiting for us so we could order together - there was only one group of younger customers (like 5 people) who had already ordered and were sitting. We noticed there was an older man, along with several employees including a taller guy with a beanie on. The front cashier was a girl with pink hair. At one point we were ready to order and my partners mom tried to get their attention to place in an order but they were all seemingly running around ignoring us. Both her and his dad made eye contact and said "Hi" to the worker with the beanie and any of the guys behind the counter but were BLATANTLY ignored. This was witnessed by all of us. The workers were occupied running around talking about how they already ran out of pumpernickel and simply talking to each other - even though the establishment wasn't busy and we were clearly waiting to be acknowledged. I made a move over to the cashier, the pink haired girl, to see if that would help. She did not look at us not once. She answered the phone every time it rang. I have worked in customer service and I understand balancing answering phones and in person customers. She could have told us to wait a moment while - acknowledging we exist- she took down the phone order instead of ignoring us completely - never even looking at us and going about her business as if we were invisible. We ultimately decided to leave due to the fact that no one seemed to care we were there. It was absolutely embarrassing for both my partner and I would held this place in such high regards to invite his parents who traveled 10 hours to see him for a few days for something like this to happen. I no longer hold this place in high regards, and while their bagels are good for what can be found in the West Coast, they don't hold a candle to true NYC bagels.

Lauren K.

Yelp
Best bagels in Eugene! Their bagel sandwiches are huge, and they never skimp on the good stuff. It's a pretty far drive far our house but we still make the drive out because you can't get a bang for your buck like this anywhere in town!

Susan M.

Yelp
Pleasant surprise in the small strip mall at 40th and Donald. I think it's under new management and they are super friendly and real! Had an everything bagel egg sandwich. It was perfectly made. Nice little eat in space too. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Ivy M.

Yelp
Is a breakfast sandwich with lettuce and tomato kinda weird? Yes. Is it greatly appreciated and refreshing? Also yes. It keeps breakfast feeling light. I wish more breakfast sandwiches came that way! I've never had east coast bagel before so I can't attest to it being perfect... but I can say I am a new person after these bagels. I will never go back to store brought bagels again. crisp on the outside, tender on the inside... my favorite is the blueberry bagel! I love how flavorful every bite is. I also really enjoy the bagel and lox. I recommend it with the onion bagel! My dogs also love the doggy bagels! They get so excited when I come home with them.

Ellsbeth C.

Yelp
Best bagels ever and I have had them all! Made the way real bagels are supposed to be made. Delicious sandwiches and the staff is always a delight. I'm so glad this place opened and I hope they open more in the area.

Steve R.

Yelp
I'm disappointed. I had the Bagel with cream cheese and lox. Very skimpy on the lox and the cream cheese. The pumpernickel bagel was mediocre as well. Not worth the $13.95. I really expected better. There's another place I've gone to that serves a much better plate under $10 That comes with generous portion of excellent Oregon lox and includes a small salad of baby greens.

Karen S.

Yelp
Off experience today, not at all like the lox stock I know and love. Bagels were square, squishy and thick with no glossy, crisp crust. We went first thing in the morning... Perhaps they are left over from yesterday? Also the lox bagels now come with very few capers.
google avatar

Ginger T.

Yelp
Great little bagel place in our neck of the woods. Please patronize this small business to keep them stable and a forever spot to have nearby. Skip the packaged bagels in the store!
google avatar

AJ M.

Yelp
We arrived mid morning on a Sunday and the line snaked through the place. The bagels were delicious. Service was friendly. Our only problem was we paid for a baker's dozen and only got 11 bagels. I would return but I'd make sure to count my bagels before we left.
google avatar

Randy L.

Yelp
I was really wanting a NY Style bagel and lox with all the trimmings. Good chewy bagel lightly toasted. And a good sized portion of flavorful lox spilling out of the sandwich as I ate it. Thin sliced tomato and red onions topped with capers, this was the real deal. Messy to eat (a good sign!). And each bite tasted better than the last (another good sign). It's been over a year since I've had one of these beauties. I promise never to go that long again!
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
I used Lox Stock & Bagels and their fresh bagels are known by locals! Love the selection and homemade smear! I didn't get a chance to try the breakfast danish. Looked amazing. I will return to try it! Keep up the good work and great food! Cheers
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Good bagels! Good folks! We really can't ask more from our local bagel shop but they find their ways to go above and beyond with special orders, delicious sandwiches and other treats. This is a sweet locally owned and operated shop. South Eugene is lucky to have Lox, Stocks & Bagels.
google avatar

Alexis S.

Yelp
Have been here a couple time, I have been satisfied every single time. Love the Asiago cheese bagel next time I make it in I will be taking more home for later lol My boyfriend has gotten the pork belly breakfast sandwich and fell in love. I use to work around the corner from here and sad I didn't I would've been here more! Thanks for being great and staying clean for Covid
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Hands down best bagels in Eugene, and I say that as an East coast escapee. Just the right amount of boil before baking to get that chewy inside with a crisp outside. And they have dog bagels!
google avatar

Thomas S.

Yelp
Yum - the pictures speak for itself.... The matzo ball soup is excellent the hand rolled bagels are outstanding
