Loy La Long | Best places to stay in Bangkok

"There are riverside hotels and there are hotels right on the river. Artsy Loy La Long, taking over a century-old wooden house near Chinatown, firmly belongs to the latter category. Most of its rooms—all recycled wood, floral curtains and mis-matched furnishing—open to verandahs and balconies with the murky Chao Phraya sloshing just beneath your feet, while the pillow-strewn lobby lounge delivers front-row river views with a cold beer and a jazzy soundtrack. Luxury lovers might find it a little too back-to-basics (the river doesn’t smell of roses after all), but anyone after a slice of laid-back Bangkok life – for a very reasonable price – will soon find themselves plotting their return. An outstanding hotel tucked away right by China Town. Don't look anywhere else, book here and you won't regret it.||A beautiful quiet hotel with only a handful of rooms. The staff are amazing and couldn't be more helpful, polite or respectful.||We stayed in the black room, with our own balcony looking over river. We could hear the water at night underneath the floorboards of the room, which I found really soothing. It gave it an extra special and unique feel. The bath tub is massive and if you plan it right can look over the river while in there.||The breakfast is beautiful with fresh fruit, and the fluffiest pancakes I've ever seen! ||It has seating areas where you can just enjoy the view.||The only thing that has not made it a. 11/10 would have been more storage for clothes in the bedroom. We were only here for a couple of days and managed fine.||Would definitely stay again and can't recommend them enough. I will go home raving about it!

I've stayed in dozens of Bangkok hotels over the years. Most have a cookie cutter design and aren't very inspiring. This place, however, is unique. It's not 'by' the river. It is 'on' the river. It is supported on concrete posts above the river. In the rooms, you can hear the water lapping against the river bank under the floor. The hotel was flooded in 2023, and this is a risk if there is very heavy, prolonged rain because of its proximity to the river. This is the only hotel I've stayed at where the wardrobe contains life jackets instead of the customary slippers and bath robes! The old teak building is 100 years old. It has been a hotel since around 2012. There aren't many rooms - six, I think. There are a couple of common areas that look directly out over the river. There is no restaurant as such, just a small kitchen. Breakfast must be ordered the day before. You can have a Western breakfast, Asian breakfast, or healthy fruit and yoghurt. The staff are very pleasant. Staying in the hotel feels a bit like being on a boat without being on a boat. If you want the ultimate in luxury and comfort, don't stay here. If you want something that's quirky and very different, I don't know of anywhere else quite like this.

Loy La Long is a unique and quirky find! We loved every minute of the unusual “boutique hotel” which is set in a hard-to-find location. Well worth the hide-and-seek! It’s on the river, and the boat-life provides hours of entertainment! It’s a short distance to the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. We stayed in the green room - superb and unbeatable! Great food.

This hotel will charm you with amazing river views. Watching the boats drift by at sunrise from our private balcony was one of the highlights of our stay. The hotel itself has a distinctly artistic and bohemian vibe, with thoughtfully curated décor that blends local craftsmanship with contemporary design. Every corner feels like a small gallery, filled with paintings. We absolutely loved our room—it was spacious, beautifully designed, and opened right up to the river. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linens high-quality, and the aesthetic details elevated the entire experience. That said, the entrance to the hotel is quite hidden, and unfortunately, the surrounding area felt neglected and a bit dirty, which gave us the initial impression of arriving at a cheap, worn-down hostel. For a hotel in this price range, it was a disappointing first moment. Thankfully, once we stepped inside, the ambiance completely transformed, and the interior experience more than made up for it. This isn’t a budget stay—but if you’re looking for a peaceful riverside escape with artistic flair and unforgettable views, Log La Long Hotel is a memorable and worthwhile destination.

This is such a beautiful hotel hidden in a quiet spot on the river. The location is perfect with Song Wat Road only a few mins walk away and the river taxis port stop easily accessible also. We stayed in the black room and it was so gorgeous with a private balcony and sounds of the river. Would highly recommend

Hidden Gem, very unique and hipster place right at the river and close to the artsy and picturesque area of Wat Song. Lovely interior with great attention to detail. Cruise boats will go up and down the river until 9 or 10 PM yes, but you can grab a drink and great food and watch the show from the riverfront balcony. It’s spectacular. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary yet close to local life, this is for you.

This really is a beautiful hotel. Hearing the 'waves' underneath you while chilling with a beer looking out over the river at the temple on the other side is something I'll never forget. Room we had was clean and the beds were superb. The ladies running the place are super friendly. Would 100% come back here again when staying in Bangkok

Beautiful Loy La Long!! I love everything about this hotel. The decor is unique, the rooms are so beautiful snd the staff are excellent. This was our second time staying and I can’t wait to come back. The blue room was so comfortable. I’ve also stayed in the green room which was also really lovely with a great shower. We ate an afternoon meal here this visit and the food was fantastic. Breakfast is included and there are a good variety of options to choose from.
