Loy La Long | Best places to stay in Bangkok

"There are riverside hotels and there are hotels right on the river. Artsy Loy La Long, taking over a century-old wooden house near Chinatown, firmly belongs to the latter category. Most of its rooms—all recycled wood, floral curtains and mis-matched furnishing—open to verandahs and balconies with the murky Chao Phraya sloshing just beneath your feet, while the pillow-strewn lobby lounge delivers front-row river views with a cold beer and a jazzy soundtrack. Luxury lovers might find it a little too back-to-basics (the river doesn’t smell of roses after all), but anyone after a slice of laid-back Bangkok life – for a very reasonable price – will soon find themselves plotting their return. This hotel will charm you with amazing river views. Watching the boats drift by at sunrise from our private balcony was one of the highlights of our stay. The hotel itself has a distinctly artistic and bohemian vibe, with thoughtfully curated décor that blends local craftsmanship with contemporary design. Every corner feels like a small gallery, filled with paintings. We absolutely loved our room—it was spacious, beautifully designed, and opened right up to the river. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linens high-quality, and the aesthetic details elevated the entire experience. That said, the entrance to the hotel is quite hidden, and unfortunately, the surrounding area felt neglected and a bit dirty, which gave us the initial impression of arriving at a cheap, worn-down hostel. For a hotel in this price range, it was a disappointing first moment. Thankfully, once we stepped inside, the ambiance completely transformed, and the interior experience more than made up for it. This isn’t a budget stay—but if you’re looking for a peaceful riverside escape with artistic flair and unforgettable views, Log La Long Hotel is a memorable and worthwhile destination.

Hidden Gem, very unique and hipster place right at the river and close to the artsy and picturesque area of Wat Song. Lovely interior with great attention to detail. Cruise boats will go up and down the river until 9 or 10 PM yes, but you can grab a drink and great food and watch the show from the riverfront balcony. It’s spectacular. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary yet close to local life, this is for you.

This really is a beautiful hotel. Hearing the 'waves' underneath you while chilling with a beer looking out over the river at the temple on the other side is something I'll never forget. Room we had was clean and the beds were superb. The ladies running the place are super friendly. Would 100% come back here again when staying in Bangkok

Beautiful Loy La Long!! I love everything about this hotel. The decor is unique, the rooms are so beautiful snd the staff are excellent. This was our second time staying and I can’t wait to come back. The blue room was so comfortable. I’ve also stayed in the green room which was also really lovely with a great shower. We ate an afternoon meal here this visit and the food was fantastic. Breakfast is included and there are a good variety of options to choose from.

Thank you for an unforgettable experience Loy La Long 🌿 To visit a place with super high expectations is the perfect set up for disappointments, I'm aware of that... But I'm so happy to be able to say goodbye to this gem today with the warmest feeling of gratitude. We stayed, on their recommendations, in the Black room on the first floor. The room itself was a comfortable piece of art and the balcony was just 🌟 I've been sitting there for hours during our stay, watching the sunrise and the sunset, and the daily river life. The location is great. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room is clean and beautiful with all small details perfectly set. We had dinner here two times on the upper floor balcony with a stunning view. Go here if you ever have the possibility.

I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a more authentic experience of Bangkok than the polished westernized hotels offer. The house is absolutely lovely, and the rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was delicious every morning, and we appreciated the easy access to beverages throughout the day. The staff are nice, although a bit standoffish. While not located in the nicest part of town, the neighborhood is quiet and we felt completely safe there. The hotel is tricky to find the first time you arrive, and drivers were often confused when we gave the address. The noise from the river can be loud, but we were able to sleep well for the most part. I recommend the Black Room for guests who prefer a bit more privacy, although it is directly on the river and can be a bit noisy at night.

A wonderful experience. The staff were so kind and attentive and the hotel itself was very laid back and stylish. We loved the modern take on traditional Thai elements in the river front lounge and our bedroom had gorgeous expansive views along the water. The daily breakfasts were a treat and had a nice variety. The hotel isn’t really sound proof but we found by 9 PM when the party boats stopped running and the lounge shut down it was perfectly quaint to sleep. The hotel was exceptionally located for easy walking to great bars and restaurants a well as quick tuk tuk trips to all the major sights. We loved our stay! Highly recommend!
