I've stayed in dozens of Bangkok hotels over the years. Most have a cookie cutter design and aren't very inspiring. This place, however, is unique. It's not 'by' the river. It is 'on' the river. It is supported on concrete posts above the river. In the rooms, you can hear the water lapping against the river bank under the floor. The hotel was flooded in 2023, and this is a risk if there is very heavy, prolonged rain because of its proximity to the river. This is the only hotel I've stayed at where the wardrobe contains life jackets instead of the customary slippers and bath robes!
The old teak building is 100 years old. It has been a hotel since around 2012. There aren't many rooms - six, I think. There are a couple of common areas that look directly out over the river.
There is no restaurant as such, just a small kitchen. Breakfast must be ordered the day before. You can have a Western breakfast, Asian breakfast, or healthy fruit and yoghurt. The staff are very pleasant.
Staying in the hotel feels a bit like being on a boat without being on a boat. If you want the ultimate in luxury and comfort, don't stay here. If you want something that's quirky and very different, I don't know of anywhere else quite like this.
