The Biggest Boston Restaurant and Bar Openings, October 2024 | Eater Boston

"The last of three new dining spots introduced as part of the InterContinental Hotel’s dining overhaul, this low-lit cocktail den is a speakeasy (note: you will need a password to get in) where patrons can sip cocktails like the Liberty’s Reserve, made with coconut rum, rye whiskey, Pineau des Charentes apertif, and tobacco bitters." - Erika Adams

Beautiful decor, comfortable seating, and dimly lit. My kind of bar. We were there for an hour and a half, and there was only one other table there at the same time so it was incredibly relaxing. We were informed that the regular "bartender" was off, so a manager was filling in. we were given the menus and some time to Look them over. 15 minutes later when the manager came back over We were informed that they were sold out of a few of the drinks. Weird but OK. Unfortunately, for me, it was the only drinks that I was interested in that they were sold out of. Apparently the drinks are pre-mixed, and then the bartender just adds the garnish. My drink had a really strange after taste, And then I tried my friends and hers also had a funny After taste. Kind of like what fruit that's starting to go bad tastes like or freezer burn. I couldn't really put my finger on it, but it wasn't good. And for $26 a drink, they should be really good. On the plus side, my friend mentioned it was my birthday and they brought out a cute little dessert on the house. A little bit disappointing, because my favorite speakeasy experiences have always been ones where there was an extremely talented bartender and no menu. Basically they just ask you what types of liquors you like, if you re in the mood for something smoky, refreshing, etc. If you like citrus, coconut ect And then they make you a drink based off of your answers. I was hoping this experience would be something more like that and I think if they can get it together and get an actual bartender there making these drinks fresh they're going to have more success.

Total tourist trap. Overpriced, pre-made $26 drinks that are overly sweet. A few drinks from the menu were unavailable, and the alternatives didn’t match expectations. The ambiance feels more like a Disney attraction than a proper bar. With Boston’s great speakeasy scene, there are far better options just a short walk away. Two drinks cost over $60 with tax and tip—not justified for what they serve. Wouldn’t return.

Inside the beautiful new Fellini bar at the Intercontinental this speakeasy is a dark oasis. Each drink tells a story. Who doesn’t love history and drinking! The drink menu is in a leather bound book full of interesting stories about the revolution and the drinks that fueled it. Bartender was excellent and definitely passionate about his spirits.

I don't know if the drinks were pre-mixed, as per the other reviews. They didn't taste "so awful" or something, and we can be pretty picky with food and drinks. It was a fun night, and an exciting experience with the entry process. The ambiance is sultry, and I thought the historical info in the menu was cool. We enjoyed David, one of the managers, whose personality seemed perfectly fit to this type of venue. It was our anniversary, so we were gifted a small dessert. I'd totally bring friends back here. Idk what people expect! It was fun and cool!

We had such a great time here! Our bartender, David, was absolutely amazing — so attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He took the time to walk us through the history behind the bar and tied it beautifully into Boston’s own story, which made the whole experience feel personal and special. The drinks were incredible — beautifully balanced and creative. You can tell a lot of care goes into every detail here. Highly recommend asking for David if you visit!

Fantastic drinks and vibes at this fun speakeasy! It’s pretty cool how to get in (you have to say a secret password) and I really enjoyed my drink. We got some snacks of warm chestnuts and popcorn which were both just okay. Drinks are definitely pricey but worth it.

Really cool speakeasy vibe inside the InterContinental — the entrance is awesome and the atmosphere is spot on. If you’re looking for a chill place to hang out, relax, and enjoy the setting, this is a great spot. Just a heads up: if you’re into true craft cocktails and love watching bartenders shake, stir, and put on that mixology show, this probably isn’t the place for that. The drinks are fine, but it’s more about the speakeasy experience and ambiance than the artistry behind the bar. Perfect if you want a laid-back night with a cool entrance and atmosphere. Not the place if you’re chasing next-level cocktails.

This was the strangest bar (I can't even bring myself to refer to it as a speakeasy) experience any in our party of 12 has ever experienced in our years of world travel. The drinks, quite frankly, were horrendous, especially to the most sophisticated palates - to the point we shared and ranked them in order of "most offensive to least". Come to find out, they are all premixed on a certain day of the week (multiple on the menu were sold out) & "finished" at the table with some version of flare and/or too-heavy pours of concentrated, artificial flavoring. Our server was clearly untrained in mixology as she continually recommended drinks in direct opposition to individuals' likings. Loyall Counting Room is a missed opportunity as is. What feels like an amusement park afterthought establishment could be something quite special with actual mixologists creating and serving quality libations with intent and respect for patrons' anticipation of an experience worthy of their time and expense.
