20 Terrific Tacos in Houston

"Boasting a bold sign that brags about “The Best Fajitas [sic] Tacos In Town,” this North Houston taco truck stays busy, with regulars from all walks of life. The tacos, filled generously with protein, cheese, and avocado, are seemingly even tastier after the sun goes down — when the crowds begin to form. Craving something refreshing and sweet? Go for the aguas frescas de sandia, melon, limon, horchata, or piña." - Brittany Britto Garley, Kayla Stewart

Google
Alrighttttttttt, this has been my go-to taco spot since 2015. I live on the west coast now, but always make this a stop when I’m in town. Yes, they are pricey BUT you get what you pay for food wise in my opinion. If you want cheap small tacos that are still good- go down airline and bring cash. They have a lot of taco trucks. FOOD/DRINKS: These tacos include cheese, avocado, cilantro, and sautéed onions. Keep this in mind when you order, especially if you say “with everything”. These tacos are NOT small, they are regular. I’ve seen reviews of people saying they are small, that is not the case. I have only personally tried and get the asada/beef/fajita- this is the only spot I don’t totally pick out fatty meat. I bring a lot of people to this spot and they have ordered various meats. I’ve been told the barbacoa, chicken, and shrimp are also good. Their agua frescas are sooooo good, I usually alternate between an horchata or lemonade (freshly squeezed). People I’ve taken also recommend their watermelon, tamarindo, and melon. The salsas are great and spicy, I usually get both red and green. They always give you a bunch of limes to use as well. I’ve tried the tortas, quesadillas, sopes, tacos, gorditas, and burritos. All delicious and huge. SERVICE: The wait can be a while so keep this in mind if you’re on a time crunch. They tend to forget to give napkins or will give 2-3, I just ask for more and they are more than happy to give more. I’ve never experienced bad service here or had a rude encounter with the staff. I have witnessed staff match energy when people have an attitude or come with a sense of entitlement. Tips to those who don’t speak Spanish & in general: •raising your voice/yelling doesn’t help the staff understand your order better or what you mean. Google Translate is amazing and free- use it. •the staff understand more than you think- speak clear/enunciate or loud enough for them to hear you. They are in a food truck with a lot of noise, commotion, and other people- it can be hard to hear. •if your order stays the same, try to learn it in Spanish •a please/thank you goes a long way •you can pause your call, FaceTime, game, video, etc.- anything really to take a minute to order your food. Anyway, I’ve included a picture of my most recent order. My mom gets the same order of tacos but because they are double tortillas, she will make more tacos with the extra tortilla. Give them a try! I hope you enjoy.

Google
The tacos were meh. But what really caught me off guard was the pricing. I had already ordered 2 tacos and saw that the price was almost $10. I figured they'd be regular sized tacos (they were not, theyre mini tacos). I got 5 tacos and 1 small quesadilla and paid $32. I got all my food in a small little bag. Wondering where the rest of it was, I realized that this was it. Ive never had a more dissappointing dinner, where you feel like you spend a decent amount of money but the food is mid and so little. Id recommend going elsewhere to be honest.

Google
Amazing customer service - delicious food and the SPICIEST GREEN salsa around 🥹 I tried a beef fajita quesadilla this time and their charro beans. They give you FRESH HIGH QUALITY LIMES too. This is amazing

Maria

Google
Best tacos i have had in a minute!! Super flavorful and the horchata was so yummy! I recommend the tacos al pastor and de lengua 😩 Pricing is kinda crazy due to inflation but I don’t regret my purchase!

Alex S.

Google
Run here now. Extremely authentic and full of flavor. Unlike most taco spots, every taco packs a wildly different punch. I’ve spent the past year in Texas and these tacos absolutely trump what I’ve personally had in Texas. Don’t miss this place.

Miguel E.

Google
Ordered Fajita tacos, $4 each Meat too crispy, kinda burned Not worth it

TL N.

Google
Been coming here for over a decade! I’m glad to see they upgraded the site. I have noticed prices have gone up but so has everywhere else but you have inflation to thank for that. These tacos are a still worth every penny. I always get their tacos de fajita with everything and chicken quesadilla also can’t for get the Horchata and agua de Jamaica it’s the best!

Google
The food is amazing but if you aren't their kind they are rude to you ! i've spent so much money here because they serve shrimp tacos (very rare) that i usually just accept it but im sick of it ! the only nice ones is the young bilingual girl & the semi bilingual dude who usually works evenings . the others get mad & rude when they don't understand you. i skipped going here for a while because im pescatarian & one time the afternoon shift mixed chicken fajita in my shrimp taco ! today it was drama over lettuce , the lettuce isn't even an extra charge but the man didnt even want to give me the lettuce when HE misunderstood my order ! he was rude from the beginning of taking my order & immediately became aggressive when i was trying to explain the miscommunication . as many times as i've tried , i will not be returning to this establishment . the food is amazing , but that does not stand in the place of customer service & respect .

Yelp
The layout of the outside seating area makes you question your decision here but let me tell you, question no more. Their food is delicious!!! We had a combo of shrimp plates and we ate every last drop. You can taste the love and seasonings. I asked for salsa in the side and the sweet lady handed me a full cup of green salsa and baby, it has you sweating but it was SOOOOO good! It took a bit to cook our food which indicates that it was not just sitting there and was getting made fresh...Yes!!! So, back to the outside seating. This food truck is located at a car wash. It appears that they closed off half of the lanes to provide seating which is actually a clever idea so you can go wash your car while your food is getting made. Definitely recommend if you're in the area to stop try them out.

Yelp
I've been coming to this taco truck since high school. Still one of my favorite spot. I ordered 2 lengua, 2 beef fajitas, 2 barbacoa and pineapple aqua fresca. Total was about $30 for six tacos and a drink, little pricey than before but everything gone up in price. My favorite was the barbacoa and lengua. The beef fajita was dry for my taste buds. Service is quick and easy to order. They do charge a service fee if you pay by credit card, so bring cash.
google avatar

Rita N.

Yelp
Yum my favorites: Chicharron, fajita, tripe, tongue. Order ahead if you can to avoid the lines!
google avatar

Derrick D.

Yelp
Really great set up for a food truck, decent amount of sitting/waiting tables. The shrimp was phenomenal I can see why their bio' says shrimp is their specialty! Very authentic and absolutely mouth watering, this would be my go to food truck if I lived on this side of town still.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick snack. I asked for all the ingredients before because I know there are some things I don't like. I was never told about the sour cream on these tostados which also look different than the photo on the truck. No avocado. I ordered two shrimp tostados. Shrimp was very good. service being good. One of my tostados came broken. Salsa is great! comes individually packaged in tiny ziplocks which may or may not come out heavy on whatever you're eating. Wait was about 15 minutes so it's freshhhhhh! Total was about $16 for two shrimp tostados which seems a bit high. There is a place to side outside and enjoy your food but you ah be distracted by the car wash. Great place for some authentic food tho!

Yelp
Went this morning for two fajita tacos. I assume because of inflation that they're about 3.6? w tax per taco. I can usually find them for about 2.50. The ambiance was nice. I liked the tented area for the rain and it was clean. The service was pretty good although I had to ask her a few times for the red salsa after giving me two verdes. The fajita meat was cooked well and I appreciate the "grilled" taste, but I still added salt. The tacos were a good size but the corn tortillas were so oily it broke apart while eating and took away a lot of the flavor. The texture just wasn't my preference. There are taco trucks on every corner in Texas so I will likely not revisit because of price and the way the tortillas were made.
google avatar

Lizeth S.

Yelp
Service was good, area was well lit at night. Too pricey for what you get... the surprise is the bill after you order because there are no prices anywhere lol. Fajita quesadilla was good, disappointed in the nachos and tacos. I wouldn't necessarily drive out of my way, but if I was on the way home from a night of partying and needed a taco truck fix with this place being in my path, I would stop for the quesadilla. Green salsa is flavorful and spicy, so that was good.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
The food is good but the prices are not it. You'll spend 30+ for like 4 things which is crazy. And the portions are jst regular not no extra meat or bigger size tortilla. Honestly there's better in my opinion and since when do taco trucks charge taxes? Weird in my opinion
google avatar

Yolanda C.

Yelp
Food is not that tasty and the tacos are over priced. The service is mediocre at best. I ordered 4 tacos and two gorditas and I received 6 tacos. There ambiance would be tables and chairs outside in the Texas heat. No prices are posted, so please watch out. I ordered 4 tacos and 2 gorditas and two drinks. I received 6 tacos and the bill was $40. Wtf ?

op 2.

Yelp
Worst place I've ever tried , $3 for a street taco ? Smallest tacos around town got 7 tacos for $22 , meat doesn't even have no flavor to it smh I do not recommend this place one bit ., then the guy got the nerve to tell me you'll be back after I asked why so expensive for the smallest tacos I've seen around & and definitely never going back .
google avatar

Dominique M.

Yelp
If you want a TACO, order here. I have now decided on my favorites; the shrimp taco (can be spicy) with a small or large (depending on my appetite) a shrimp and beef quesadilla. It's the textures of both that excite me. Fast ordering, can be a long wait, but hell, it's all good so yeah. And I love the move under the Car Wash station. Provides great coverage from the heat. It's also well lit so you don't have to worry about those issues at night.

Tacoya J.

Yelp
Dishonest sales person!!! Went her dinner, & the bill is $62! There are no prices, so I asked for brake down, guy says 2-nachos-$30, 1-quesadilla-$10, 4-tacos -$8, one burrito-$10, total-$62! When I said I didn't order a burrito, it was a gordita. He said-$58. I said how, when the difference is $6! He changed the price & said 2-nachos-$30 + $.50 each (tax), 1-quesadilla -$10, 4-tacos-$8, one gordita-$4 + $1 each (tax) total $58!
google avatar

Cece K.

Yelp
Best beef fajita. Little pricey but def worth it. Does accept card, but has an extra fee.
google avatar

Aileen C.

Yelp
I'm very aware of the location, 4 yrs never stopped, but I keep seeing people in the morning and night after 10p always busy. I decided to try the street tacos by boyfriend got burrito but when we tried was tge best street tacos I had. Tacos were juicy avocado, onion, cilantro, and fresh cheese with soft and not fatty meat. He loved his burrito as well. Prices are average normal $2.50/ $15
google avatar

Kat Q.

Yelp
Worst customer service! Don't call if you can't speak Spanish! They just hang up on you.

TaDarreria J.

Yelp
This taco truck is by farrr my most favorite on the Northside. They are always quick at preparing the food and they never mess up on my orders. 10/10 recommend Excellent Tacos!

Brandie H.

Yelp
I posted a review about this business years ago praising how delicious the tacos were. Now in 2023 going into 2024 this place is completely nasty and over priced. I had beef flour tacos and the meat were small little hard pellets. The tacos were soggy, the cilantro and avocado were brown. The service was horrible. I had to ask several times for a green sauce. I literally had to beg for the sauce until another customer came along and said I can have hers. The truck originally faced a different direction now it's turned a way that makes an uncomfortable breeze way followed with dirty wooden tables. I would not recommend eating here anymore.
google avatar

Johnathon G.

Yelp
food was trash!!!! fajita was so hard like dog food i could not even eat it. never coming back, worse example of mexican food ive ever had...
google avatar

Willie B.

Yelp
Best Tacos on the North Side. Service is great. Always have a crowd..my go to food spot

KingAppealClothing S.

Yelp
To the owneeIdk or why y'all open in the morning if none of woman even gonna acknowledge you. Going look at you with WTF FAVE LIKE YOU DOING HERE. Basically them ladies gonna cost customers for being rude and stuff. You already over charge for tacos half a** decent.

Diana T.

Yelp
First off, it's true. The beef fajitas are AMAZING but pricey. We've gone twice within a month and the prices were different each time. Standing in long lines both times, we've noticed they would charge the $2 extra credit card fee to some customers and sometimes, they wouldn't. Lol, favor isn't fair so I get it; it's just tough to predict how much you're going to pay at any given time. Plus, the last time, the service wasn't that great but it's a food truck and these are hardworking people that serve great food... so we're returning customers but you can get cheaper tacos and better service elsewhere.
google avatar

Chi O.

Yelp
Got the trio shrimp, chicken and beef flour tortilla tacos very well seasoned and the combination of ingredients just works loved it

Tamara S.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this food truck after hearing rave reviews and the food was not worth the hype to say the least. We had shrimp tacos and chicken quesadilla. The shrimp in my opinion was over cooked and dry, falling out of the foil paper so not a very pleasing presentation. The agua fresca water we got a weird after taste, I wish they would have had the classic Jarritos. The quesadilla was subpar. Needless to say I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Rex C.

Yelp
I saw some people day these are the best tacos in Houston. Hmmmm they must have never been to north side: taco nazo, taco Aracely, and the list goes on and on. Food: Asada tacos are pretty decent. I don't think they are made fresh to order is why you only get three stars. However I do like that you get avocado on your taco with no extra charge. They are kind of small. I wasn't a fan of the Barbacoa. Gerardo's on Patton is much better. The green sauce is really good. They are open really late. I've been coming here off and on for the past ten years. I got to remember them since they are open late. I'll try a few more things and possibly give them 4 stars but for right now they are a solid three. Give them a shot. You may like them. The people that work there are very nice.

Tyrone G.

Yelp
It is too pricey. I know some of y'all want to flex saying you ate at a pricey food truck like it was amazing but all I've read are reviews saying they had less seasoned meat from other places to the point where they are happy about this one not being as bad. Not great or amazing just comparatively not as bad. after that price point and you're walking away with regular tasting food wrapped foil paper and sides ties in sandwich bags, let your tastebuds tell your brain to remember this review saying it wasn't worth the price.
google avatar

Tran Dinh Quoc L.

Yelp
The best taco truck I have tried in the town! Especially the shrimp taco. I don't care much about service, it's truck taco, all I need is a delicious taco and they have done very good about it.

Rhiannon P.

Yelp
Fajita meat is way too smoky and the food is very overpriced. 9 tacos, 3 tostadas, a Gordita and a cantaloupe drink was $68.

Devin N.

Yelp
There was a lady there that was very rude and yes the other comments are true these are shiesty ppl they will add fees and if you dont speak spanish good luck im aure you are getting that 2$ card fee that doesnt go to everybody only certain people.. tacos were good.. people prices and performance... trash... save your money and go eat out nice with your family

Manuel P.

Yelp
way too pricey for take out. food is good but come on. I could dine in with full service for their pricin. pass!
google avatar

Avery L.

Yelp
Fresh food and the best tacos around. The shrimp tacos are amazing! I do recommend bringing cash as it is a taco truck. Drinks are amazing also.
google avatar

R A.

Yelp
I am not a big fan of mexican food. But I love the shrimp tacos here. Most of the time the food is excellent but sometimes they put too much seasoning and It was too salty to eat.
google avatar

Jaitzel B.

Yelp
This place gave me old avocados and tried to report my review. Even though I provided photos of this exact location
google avatar

Samantha J.

Yelp
I have passed this taco truck many times in the past and it always looked busy. I finally had the chance to try it recently and it did not disappoint. There were about 4-5 people ahead of me so I didn't think the wait would be too long but it took over 30 min in over 100 degree weather. Needless to say I was very hot and hangry by the time I got my food and already made up my mind I wouldn't be going back. However, once I ate my food I quickly changed my mind. We had the shrimp tostada, barbacoa tacos, pastor tacos, fajita tacos, and chorizo tacos. All of it was very good. The meat was juicy and flavorful and there was a clear distinction between them all. The tacos were a bit smaller than I'm used to and I could've easily eaten about 5 so keep that in mind when ordering. Overall, these are now our favorite but due to the wait I may not return until it gets a little cooler
google avatar

Sharita S.

Yelp
I've only come for the shrimp tacos. The best I've had in this city. My sister has had the steak tacos. She said they were excellent. I drive past several trucks for this place. They don't get 5 stars because though they take debit card, there is an excessive $2 fee added for them charge the card. These companies don't charge that much so it's really a profit for them to accept debit. Because of this, they lost about $18 in orders. I have $7 and planned to feed the family. I ended up just feeding myself from here.
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
Most excellent Taco stand near FM 1960/Veterans area. Always a good dining experience and the tacos include avocado and grilled onions. What I love: Consistently good each time Well marinated fajita meat Decent pricing Fast service Note: $2 credit car fee. They prefer cash only. Recommendations: Lots of the green salsa. Can't get enough of it. Fajita beef huaraches!
google avatar

Ahlyssa C.

Yelp
Not sure why it says they are permanently closed when they are open. The tacos are so good but I do think very overpriced.

Kiley M.

Yelp
20$ for 6 tacos just to wait an hour, could've just went to the taco bell next door for 1/3 of the price
google avatar

Nichole S.

Yelp
I came to visit my sister for a week. She kept raving how phenomenal the tacos were and I needed to try them. So on Sunday after going out we stopped to grab that late night delicacy.......man oh man!!!! That was a damn good taco!!!! I had a steak, chicken, and pastor tacos. All three were soooooooo flavorful and well portioned!! I hated that I didn't get more! Hopefully I can grab some more before I leave, if not I'll definitely be back my next visit!!!

Yvette E.

Yelp
WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! They are rude and work at their own pace with no fucks given and they don't even tell you when your food is ready despite being in front of them. They expect you to go up to the window and magically know when it's ready. They give you a receipt with no ticket number so hold on to that receipt. OH and they don't answer the phone so don't bother calling. I will never come back. I rather drive across town where I know the food will be ready in decent time and know how to speak to people. P.S. their limonada fresca aint all that. Only chose 1 star to post or it wouldn't post.

Jose H.

Yelp
I need to reorder my food 3 times.. waited a hour later to eat smh. I will never come back the first and the last
google avatar

Alicia S.

Yelp
I love this place!!!! Best street tacos around!!! We always get fajita beef all the way on corn...damn u can't go wrong!! Put some lime, load it up w that green sauce and go to town!!! Then wash it down with an limon agua...yummmy!!!!
google avatar

Kobe N.

Yelp
Since when the price going up alot for tacos. Wonder if this place has change the ownership. The new lady even making fun of us . I been coming here for 5 years , so sad to see it change a lot

Kynnedy C.

Yelp
top 2 pick in my opinion i love me some flour tacos and they cook em just right. make you get their fresh fresca !!
google avatar

Alborz D.

Yelp
I consider myself a TACO expert since I seem to end up at every taco truck. Have I been to every single taco truck in Houston and surrounding areas...... No, not yet.. still working on it... hahaha. I ordered the 4 fajita tacos and a Mexican Coke and "4 chiles toreados" Tacos were good and flavorful..I have had better. Salsa Verde was good.. salsa roja lacked flavor. Mexican Coke was good as usual.. Hahahaha CHILES toreados which cost us a very ridiculous, mega premium price of 4 for 5 dollars.... never got them.. most food trucks will include this, complimentary with your tacos, this one did not. There is a sign right where you order your tacos... "Nothing is free in this world"

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
What a shame that they are robbing people. Make sure to ask for the price of each item and calculate your total as they are charging you more. Even though the tacos are good, I cant support a business that robs from their customers.
google avatar

Y. C.

Yelp
Place is usually packed which means it's good! It's a little overpriced but it definitely hits the spot. Behind Taco Bell on 1960 & Walters, parking can be a little troublesome due to the fact of being on a car wash lot.
google avatar

Dave F.

Yelp
This "trailer" sits behind the Taco Bell in the car wash parking lot off 1960 and Walters. If you live anywhere near here it is definitely worth checking out. All of the food is authentic and tastes great. I have been here a few times and have yet to be disappointed. I have tried both breakfast and lunch. Regardless of what I order, The food is always hot -- and the orders accurate. If you're giving this place a try, I recommend the fajita tacos, pastor, and chorizo. All are great. They also have pouches of salsas, but they are extremely strict on the numbers of salsas they give. They have a ratio that they will not exceed unless you pay. As the sign on the trailer say, "Nothing is free in this world!" Since the food is always fresh, do not expect to get in and out quickly. It takes them a bit of time to cook your order. While they do accept credit cards, they impose a two dollar fee regardless of how much your order costs. So if you order a two dollar taco - you are paying a 100% fee. Your best bet is to carry cash. This little place has charm. I give it four stars for the taste and quality. I am dinging them a star for their credit card fee and their salsa regulations.
google avatar

Bilaal J.

Yelp
Love this place. Consistent. Worth the money. Hot and fresh. You will actually crave these once you are done.
google avatar

Kingston D.

Yelp
I'm a Taco Connoisseur and found this on accident. Stopped to get car wash and looked to me left ...the rest was history. Quality, Quantity and Customer Service. Not sure why they have the cop there on duty. Everyone seemed to have one thing on mind...not BS, but TACOS
google avatar

Rabiya J.

Yelp
Been coming here for 15 years. Best taco truck in Houston! Steak fajita tacos and their shrimp tostadas are the best thing on the menu
