Lúa

"Although there are numerous Galician restaurants in Madrid, it’s unusual to find one that is so different and with such a highly personal and innovative approach. Here, the cuisine prepared by Orense-born chef Manuel Domínguez, the son of traditional “pulpeiros” (octopus cooks), is served in two dining rooms with a warm rustic feel and works of contemporary art, as well as on the attractive terrace. The dishes on the à la carte and the two tasting menus (Lúa and Lúa Chea) are focused around a fully contemporary culinary approach with a strong Celtic influence, and one which maximises the use of seasonal ingredients that bring out the best of each other. We particularly enjoyed the signature “Pulpo a feira” octopus dish and the “Tarta líquida de Santiago”, a new take on the classic dessert but one which pays homage to the chef’s roots. Luckily for us, this particular moon (lúa in Galician) is shining brightly in the Spanish capital!" - Michelin Inspector

Dining at Lua was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The quality of the food, the attention to detail, and the overall ambiance make it a standout in Madrid’s culinary scene. We started with the octopus, which was beautifully prepared—tender, flavorful, and a perfect way to begin the meal. The freshly baked bread they offer is also worth mentioning—warm, soft, and truly delicious. For the main course, I had the steak with fries. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, bursting with flavor and expertly seasoned. It was accompanied by crisp, golden fries that balanced the dish nicely. Additionally, Lua’s wine selection is outstanding. The variety and quality available are impressive, with options that perfectly complement the menu. Without a doubt, I’ll be returning next time I’m in town. Highly recommend for anyone seeking refined cuisine and top-tier service in Madrid.

Although it lost its Michelin star in 2023, Lúa is still a fantastic restaurant. The chef, Manuel Domínguez, enhances traditional Galician dishes with unique creative elements. It's an excellent stepping stone into haute cuisine, without the sometimes exuberant mannerism of more distinguished places. While you can order individual dishes, we opted for the tasting menu. Consisting of 2 appetizers, 3 starters, 2 main dishes and 2 desserts, it is adequately priced at €92 per person. The quality is on par with what you would typically get in a traditional-leaning 1-Michelin-star restaurant. Our highlights were the peach gazpacho and the foie micuit with pear and caramelized cheese. While I'm not a fan of the traditional Santiago cake for dessert, the coulant version they make at Lúa is amazing. The only thing that could be improved are the meat dishes: you can choose between suckling pig and squab, but both rely a bit too much on the sauce they are served with. Other than that, we had a great dinner in a relatively casual atmosphere.

What a surprising and great dinner! We had a fantastic meal where we tried incredible and interesting dishes. The pigeon was the star of the show! It would’ve been perfect if the wine pairing could’ve been explained a bit better or in general a bit more time for service and enjoyment of the atmosphere was possible.

We went there upon recommendations from friends. The place is nicely decorated and wait staff were friendly and spoke English well. We had the degustation menu. The menu was definitely interesting and the kitchen definitely tries to experiment with flavours. I think the highlight is definitely the cappuccino dish. Visually interesting and flavours were good. A couple of dishes like the fish and roast pork could be better balanced with flavours. For example, the hoi sin sauce on the roast pork could be much stronger. Overall, it was a nice experience and with a few minor tweaks in the flavours I think this restaurant is amazing.

Amazing restaurant, super friendly staff, amazing tasting menu. It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it. They also made my 6 year old son feel welcome! Definitely coming back

I had the worst Michelin star experience ever. I ordered their 9 course tasting menu and none of the dishes really appealed to my taste. The food quality and cooking skills fell short of what I expected from a Michelin-starred establishment, and the lack of creativity was especially disappointing. The second appetizer tasted extremely fishy and sour, so my friend and I couldn't finish it. The starter course with salmon, mayo, and lime zest was just okay. The mayo tasted like the kind you buy at a regular supermarket. Among the nine dishes, the foie gras with puff pastry and candied pistachios stood out as the best, but even that had its flaws. It turned out to be too sweet for a savory dish, and the pastry itself was oily and lacked the desired crunch, resulting in an uncomfortable mouthfeel. The remaining courses were equally disappointing, leaving such a lackluster impression that I can hardly recall what I actually ate. The service and atmosphere were fine. The staff were professional and polite, but I was "spoiled" with the warming, friendly and attentive manners of other non-starred and Michellin-starred restaurants I have dined in before.

Great tasting menu, I loved the appetizers, and as a favorite dish I would choose Corvinya fish. The chef makes a good work with the sauces. I missed not getting a second dessert. The service was excellent, they had good pace for all dishes with minimal wait time. Large wine menu. For 1 star Michelin I missed the Chef at the table asking customers about the experience, I find that to give a super value to this adventure as at least you learn how some flavors are achieved. Ginger on carpaccio was magic. Many dishes with flowers, and very colorful. Will definitely come back when they change menu. They only had one tasting menu which helped to everyone at the table eating together. Good price for a 1 star. My only missing thing is a menu in paper to follow what you ate, what you re eating and what's remaining.

Our visit to Lua was one of those cozy, warm experiences that you treasure forever. We had wonderful food and wine in the company of good friends. The service we received was incredibly friendly and informative, both elegant but approachable, intuitive to our needs. We chose to start with an order of Foie Midcuit Sobre Empanada De Pera Y Queso San Simón Caramelizado, and a half order of impeccably soft and supple Pulpo a Feira. My companion ordered their Lubina con Verduritas, and I had the Verdinas con Carabineros, and the Raya En Caldeirada Sobre Sopa De Ibéricos. For dessert, I had the Brownie con Helado de Turron y Trufa (yes, it had authentic black truffles shaved on top) and my friend a "deconstructed" Tarta de Santiago. The whole meal was amazing; some of the dishes were elevated versions of traditional Galician dishes (the Verdinas or the Tarta de Santiago) while others were successful experiments (like the Fois Midcuit or the crazy-delicious Brownie with Turron Ice Cream and shaved Trufa). Lua deserves their 2023 Michelin star!

Yelp
The way they do the red prawn is too fishy and salty. The service is not good. The environment is good and nice setting.

Yelp
The tasting menu was a bit excessive for lunch -- it felt like quite the marathon. The first course knocked it out of the park with interesting flavours (squid ink, eel, and anchovy) and textures (soft, smooth, and crispy), but it went downhill from there. I especially didn't like the gazpacho and two substitute courses without celeriac (my bad; should've just eaten the original offerings). Too many of the courses were on the cold and tart side. I was also way too full from this menu! In that regard, value for money was pretty high from this meal.

Yelp
Very clean and classy restaurant. We went there as a party of three last night and we're satisfied. Being our first Michelin star restaurant, we expected the service to be very good but it was just a bit above average. The atmosphere is very clean and inviting aswell. As far as the food goes it was pretty good, however nothing really blew our mind. They offered us a menu with starters/appetizers and also the tasting menu. We were accompanied with a vegan eater and the server was very accommodating. He offered her own vegan tasting menu which was very nice of them. Overall the restaurant is a pretty decent stop. I would say it's worth it. The food costed around 75€ per person

Yelp
Lovely intimate restaurant where classic cooking technique shines. Their pork belly, beef cheeks and ceviche were delicious and perfectly prepared. They also have a very good wine list, great wine recommendations from the sommelier and at affordable prices.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and don't come here. Every single dish tastes like salt. Thank you!!

Yelp
Lúa means "moon" in Galacian (the language spoken by those from Galacia, a region on the northwest corner of Spain). Lúa is one of only a handful of restaurants in Madrid to have earned a coveted Michelin star. The restaurant is contemporary yet has a bit of a rustic feel. The use of wooden furnishing creates an unique atmosphere. The dim lights and the spacing of the table creates an intimate space. The service is attentive and friendly. Lúa only serves a tasting menu that changes on a weekly basis based on seasonable ingredients. The tasting costs a very reasonable 65 € (remember, this includes all taxes and tips!). In a city known for its amazing food, Lúa still stands out. The tasting menu showcases Lúa's creative and innovative cooking that blends Galician and modern cookings. While all of the dishes were delicious, there were a few highlights. I really enjoyed the razor claim and the suckling pig. However, all of the dishes were flavourful and expertly prepared. I would highly recommend Lúa when you are in Madrid. It was a standout in a city with so many amazing restaurants - among the best in the city.

Yelp
This place was phenomenal. My first Michelin experience and was blown out of the water with there tasting menu. The tasting included nine plates and petit fours. Each plate was as beautiful as the next with delicious flavors. The start was a prawn carpaccio; amazing. The standout dishes were the peach gazpacho and butterfish, the hoisin suckling pig, Filloa and the mackerel with three preparations of corn (corn sauce, baby corn and.....popcorn!!). I ordered a bottle of Galician white to complement and was not disappointed. Also could not stop eating the chive butter and Catalan olive oil. Amazing experience was speechless from each bite.

Yelp
This was a nice deviation from the plentiful array of tapas dining that Madrid offers. The location was a plus too - off the path of the touristy hot spots, thanks to Google Map - we were able to get here quite effortlessly. We were quickly seated. The restaurant had just opened for dinner service, so it was empty when we started but the seats quickly filled up. We opted for the tasting menu - and it did not disappoint. Octopus in ceviche kicked off the tasting menu. Tender and flavorful octopus - on what could easily be a rubbery/bland item - teased what delights there were yet to come. The next course was the Aji chicken soup with scallops and cod. Such a simple dish brought back memories of comfort food during cold and rainy winters of years past. Tartare of shrimp - how can you go wrong with tartare? Sweet fresh shrimp was the star of the dish. I'd only wish I was allowed to go to the back of the kitchen to get at the source. Foie gras on pear bread was next - a nice way to end the appetizer portion and prime my appetite for the main courses. Sea Bass was the first of two mains served. Moist and flavorful with the romescu powder. Dainty portion but well prepared. Roasted suckling pig - I've never had decent roasted suckling pig that was not prepared by a Chinese restaurant - this was the exception - it was amazing. After the above dishes, the meal was slowly wound down by dessert and coffee. And after that we found our way back to Sol.

Yelp
I would give it 5 stars for the food but the owner/chef needs to wake up. The service is terrible for a Michelin rated restaurant. The chef is extraordinary The wait staff needs replaced.

Yelp
Chef Domínguez puts a modern and international twist on traditional Spanish dishes. The flavors of all the dishes in the tasting menu were well-balanced and delicious. The foie micuit and fried ray cheeks are examples of '"the perfect bite of food". Not every staff member spoke English but they were all friendly. I arrived to the restaurant early and chef Domínguez happened to be at the front of the house and was very welcoming. Value for the tasting menu is amazing. 60€ for nine beautiful courses. Something of the same quality and service in San Francisco would run $80-100, not including tax and tip! And good wine is always a bargain in Spain compared to the U.S. If your looking for something more "high-end" with a special experience but don't want to break-the-bank, make a trip to Lúa.

Yelp
During my trip to Spain, this was my Michelin star restaurant of choice. We came here for a lunch and were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant and taken downstairs to the area where we would be eating. If you have seen "Chef's Table", the ambiance of the restaurant mimics the opening credits on the show. It's very quiet, intimate, and rustic. On to the food! We ordered the tasting menu and were surprised by the price. At 65 euros, you're getting a lot of high-quality food (9 courses plus 2-3 dessert courses). We don't eat pork and let the server know this and our menu was slightly adjusted. I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu featured more seafood than pork, which came as a surprise to me. Similar to other people's sentiments, not all staff spoke English, so sometimes it was hard to truly understand what we were eating. It made more sense once we got the menu at the end detailing the dishes. The food was of the highest quality, the fish and meats were cooked perfectly, and presentation of every dish was phenomenal. Next time I'm in Madrid, this will definitely be on my list.

Yelp
Great fine dinning experience in a romantic ambience. The service was top-notch. They only offer the 55 euro pre-fixe menu. We didn't do wine pairing but instead ordered a fine bottle of Valdesil Viticultores en Portela white wine to go with the largely seafood and pork menu. The best 4 dishes of my 9 course meal were the following: 1) smoked salmon with pickled aubergine: The salmon had a refreshing tart taste and with the eggplant, it has multilayer complex flavors of tartness and slight crunchiness of sashimi. 2) foie micuit on pear bread and San Simon cheese caramelized: it's richness complemented the refreshing pear bread. 3) roasted suckling pig over apricot and prunes: my fave dish. The pork melted in my mouth and was marinated well. The skin was crispy. 4) tangerine sorbet with coconut foam: pleasantly cold with a refreshing sour flavor

Yelp
Finding a good meal in Spain is easy, find a good meal in Madrid is even easier. Finding good Galician. food in Madrid is a little hard and find someone who is able to keep all those delicious flavour while doing it in a modern way. While B The tasting menu is a good deal. Yes it's 65 euro but it's 9 course with additional sweets and amuses and it's all inclusive of course. One of us was gluten-free and one of us was pescatarian and everyone had a good experience. Some of the gluten-free dishes actually were our favorite and of course the Spaniards especially the Galician cuisine has amazing seafood and fish. There is also a wine pairing available which if you like wine in the least bit is an excellent value. The ingredients are all high end but never used just for show. The dishes are attractive and like all meals in Spain you should relax and enjoy the meal a leisurely pace. Like many places in Madrid this place did not appear to wheelchair accessible. Not all the staff speak English also we encountered ones that did speak French and German as a second language and were able to communicate just find.

Yelp
Since getting a table at Diverxo has never been easy, my friend and I came to Lúa, a michelin star restaurant in Chamberí, which was a short 5 min walk from my place. The gastronómico menu was 60 euros--simply amazing and we paired the experience with a bottle of wine. I don't exactly remember what each of our courses was but they were very unique, flavorful and once of a lifetime. It was my first michelin star restaurant and this restaurant raised the bar high.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences in Madrid. I was in Madrid on business for 4 weeks and ate here 3 times at the bar and once at the dining room. While the tasting menu is very creative and delicious, I liked many of the dishes available at the bar. The menu seems to change periodically and I liked the shellfish dishes, in particular the shrimp and beans dish. I had no idea that this place had a Michelin star until a few weeks later. I like that fact that it is not at all over hyped and feels like a neighborhood restaurant. The wait staff are all friendly; perhaps not professional but it added a charm.

Yelp
This was the first of several tasting-menu-with-wine-pairing meals we had on our honeymoon, and it was delicious (and also the best value). This was our first dinner in Spain, and our esteem for Restaurante Lua was not reduced despite amazing experiences at Michelin ***s later in the trip. It's been two months so I can't recall exactly what we ate, but I recall the food being delicious and inventive. The service was very good and we liked the space/decor. We also appreciated the fact that all of the other diners were Spaniards, which made us feel a little bit less tourist-y. I heartily recommend Restaurante Lua for a special occasion in Madrid.

Yelp
Hands down the best meal I had in Madrid. It is in an area that has no tourists, first great sign. It was nicely decorated, second great sign. The tasting menu and wine were both fantastic and inventive. I remember the cod with vanilla sauce like it was seafood butter. It was so well prepared, it was unbelievable. I don't know why people say only Barcelona has good food, this place makes Barcelona look like an Applebee's.

Yelp
Desde Estados Unidos se echa mucho de menos un restaurante come el tuyo Manuel! For food lovers, this is one of the most amazing restaurant I had the chance to try. My family and I were regular customers. What a wonderful artist Chef Manuel is! A must to try if you are visiting Madrid!
