Houston's Restaurant & Bar Openings 2024

"A second location of Lúa Viet Kitchen just opened in The Heights. Like its sister restaurant, you can expect dishes like shaking beef, bowls of shrimp phở, and a berry tiramisu for dessert. But the difference at this spot is the light green booths that pepper the inside of the casual restaurant." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Lúa Viet Kitchen - Review - Houston - The Infatuation

"A second location of Lúa Viet Kitchen just opened in The Heights. Like its sister restaurant, you can expect dishes like shaking beef, bowls of shrimp phở, and a berry tiramisu for dessert. But the difference at this spot is the light green booths that pepper the inside of the casual restaurant. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Lot of great vegetarian options here! The tofu curry, broad noodle dish, and dancing tofu are all excellent choices. Everything comes with that wonderful wok hei flavor that really makes the dishes stand out. Portions are just right, and the food comes out quickly, which makes it perfect for lunch or a quick dinner. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for flavorful, veggie-friendly options!

Google
Lúa Viet is a Vietnamese restaurant in the Heights. I tend to go to Bellaire Blvd for all my Viet eats but wanted to try something closer and decided to give Lúa Viet a try. You order before sitting down, and I got a phở gà and cơm gà xối mỡ. I tried to give them some leniency because it is the one of the few Vietnamese restaurants within the inner loop, but the phở gà was the blandest phở I have ever had. The broth had no depth and lacked seasoning. They did give a large portion of noodles, which I usually prefer, but the broth was so lacking, I could not finish it. The cơm gà xối mỡ was okay. I was really disappointed and am not sure if I would give them a try again.

Google
I ordered beef pho but it takes more than 15 minutes to come out. There are only 3 tables who already have their foods so it wasn't busy. Pho is over-priced because it is small portion as picture. It doesn't even small bowl size compare to other vietnamese restaurants. But beef was fresh.

Google
This place is a new and modern but it is basically an upscale fast food place. Go get your own utensils and families with kids. They charged $17.99 for the Shaking Beef Bo Luc Lac. When the plate came i was in such shock that i told the guy you have some nerve to charge that price for that small portion. My Vietnamese friend said it tasted ok. She said 5/10. I did not enjpy your dumplings. This place is no different then Panda Express except here they charge more and give smaller portions.

This place is so tasty. The lemongrass tofu is a favorite. The tofu is perfectly crisp accented with mushrooms and a wonderful sauce. The chicken lemongrass bun was also very tasty with lots of fresh veggies. We will be back!

Google
So so good! The Vietnamese dumpling soup was so tasty and comforting! A meal on its own to begin way! Not pictured but also ordered the shrimp vermicelli bowl, which was incredibly satisfying!

Google
Ordered the large fried rice and added beef. Bowl was definitely large but charging $5.99 extra for the bit of beef shavings sitting on top of the rice should definitely be a crime somewhere lol. Would've let it pass but the beef was also EXTREMELY salty, and this is coming from someone who actually doesn't mind some salt/seasoning. It was just way too much. I'm assuming it was a mistake but that coupled with the amount you actually get for the price you pay, is just sub par. Rice itself without the beef was good. Full transparency the pic was taken after I ate a few pieces of the beef (maybe like 3/4) and is not the amount it came with. I'd say it was like a few oz of thinly sliced beef.

Google
Met my husband and son for lunch and we were not disappointed. Our dishes were perfectly seasoned on the spicy side. Portions were generous too. Jay took our order and although they weren’t offering the juice I was looking for he had a great suggestion…. A deliciously flavored watermelon/pineapple canned beverage. The young man was truly “Johnny on the spot!” Experience was everything we went in looking for.

Yelp
As a Viet person that only prefers to eat authentic Asian food in Chinatown this place is tasteful and delicious! Glad we gave it a try!

Yelp
My perfect healthy lunch place! Love love love the shaking chicken! Chicken is cooked perfectly and with such a yummy sauce, rice is fantastic, veggies are fresh, it's honestly the perfect healthy lunch it's filling and yummy. There's parking in the back, didn't have any issue parking but it wasn't lunch time when I went. Service was fast and friendly and everything was very clean and nice. They have big windows that you can look out of while you eat.

Yelp
Always happy to have another Vietnamese food option in the neighborhood - this is one of the recent outposts in this restaurant's expansion throughout town. Light, inviting interior makes this a nice place to stop by and enjoy a meal while catching up with friends or family. Typical Vietnamese food options prepared fresh and beautifully plated. I had their egg roll vermicelli and really enjoyed that it was bursting with flavor and did not skimp on the accent ingredients. Order at the counter and then they will bring your meal to you. Parking - large, private lot (woohoo!)

Yelp
Heights prices for decent Vietnamese food. The staff was friendly and gave good recommendations. I had the Gaelic noodles with chicken - the noodle flavor was awesome. Food came out pretty fast. Lots of parking. Plus lots of plant based food if that fits your needs- basically the entire back side of their menu. I'd probably give 3.5 stars if I could but really only because the prices outweighed the quality of food. However - this is a farm to plate restaurant I believe, so I kinda get it!

Yelp
Very good! Fast and friendly service with easy parking so perfect for families. We got the shaking beef and I would highly recommend. We got the kids fried rice and our son loved it. Portions are good and we will be back!

Yelp
I've been to their Montrose location maybe a handful? of times. Not my favorite Vietnamese spot but not the worst. This Heights location -- I felt so underwhelmed. Cannot put my finger on it but the entire experience, the energy was off. Ordered at the counter (could be confusing for someone new) and when my food came out and I immediately went and confirmed this was fish sauce? The color, the oil, I have never seen any fish sauce look like this. She confirmed it was their fish sauce and it looks different because they use a chili oil from Seattle? I love finding good Vietnamese food in the loop as a Vietnamese person but I didn't end up finishing my food tbh it just wasn't doing it for me. There's parking in the back. Entrance locations are a bit confusing as well.

Yelp
Clean space with ample parking. I love the Viet chicken salad, so refreshing. My wok lemon grass chicken with noodles was ok. I'm not a fan of all the sauce, makes the noodles soggy. Other than that, nice experience.

Yelp
Soft opening this week. They're off to a good start already. The food is really good and as Nick explained, clean! We'll be back very soon.

Yelp
Tried this new location of Lua Viet and it's comparable to the Montrose location. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant so just be aware of that when driving down Durham. We got the shaking beef dish, beef pho, vermicelli noodles with egg rolls, and the stir fry rice noodles with beef and Chinese broccoli. To start we also go the wonton soup. I would say the table favorites were the wonton soup and the shaking beef. Service was good. The guys working there were very polite and attentive. Restaurant was also very clean and spacious. A good viet option if you're in the area

Yelp
We love this place! Used to go to the first location in Montrose, and we are so happy they opened a second location in the heights. Great casual dinner spot or carry out. The food is always good and we have a few favorite go-to's that never disappoint. Order at the counter and they bring out to your table. They also have a decent beer and wine selection, which is a change from the first location that was dry.

Yelp
We had the shaking tofu and salt-and-pepper tofu entrees. The food was delicious, and you can clearly tell they care about using high quality ingredients. Nice addition to the menu compared to their original location is their list of cocktails, which was delightful. Plenty of parking in the back, which is unusual for the Heights location, so that was an unexpected bonus!

Yelp
Start with the good? Easy parking. Place was clean. I don't like to be mean. All I can say is this place is on par with "the mall food court" and not the galleria mall. Only difference is this place is double the price. Just not good. ( Well not what I have come to expect from this part of town anyhow.) Staff was nice and food came quick.

Yelp
Favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Houston counter service very clean great service food always fresh and tasty

Yelp
We tried this place when it opened in the heights and we absolutely LOVE the food. The shaking beef is amazing every time I go. We also love the Pho and pork egg rolls! Not only is the food always great, the ambience is pretty and clean, and the service is friendly and fast. We keep coming back here and it never disappoints, definitely worth trying especially the shaking beef plate!

Yelp
This place was not good or authentic viet food. It has a completely Hispanic staff down to the kitchen and most speak no English and can't take a order correctly. It was an empty restaurant yet the staff made me wait standing at the counter for five mins and just looked at me. Overly cooked and dried out shaking beef, they forgot my egg rolls, gave me a side of soup I didn't order then when I asked for my egg rolls they came back and asked to take the soup back to give it to another guest after I had already opened it and sat down at a table with it for 5 mins. If was the guest that ordered that I wouldn't have accepted it.. Disgusting. Unfortunately they are a completely disorganized and incompetent establishment. I recommend going to Pho Ben nearly across the street for authentic food and a competent working staff.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese Food. Houston has amazing choices. This is not one. All the food somehow tasted bland and flavorless. The chicken lemongrass apparently had little to no lemongrass in it. The meat filling in the egg rolls was mushy...I make better Cha Gio. The teas were like water and had no flavor. This place is like a Vietnamese kiosk in a bad food court. That was $55 for two people. An expensive mistake.

Yelp
Great flavor to their dishes. Excellent options for vegetarians with good variety. Their juices/sodas are cool, interesting and new. Always really friendly waiters/waitresses.

Yelp
Everything is always fresh. Best spring rolls in Houston. For the price, the quality of ingredients is second to none for Vietnamese in the area. It's always a good sign when management is in the actual location which I met the owners multiple times during their opening weeks. Best items imho: shaking beef, dumpling soup, shrimp spring rolls.

Yelp
Amazing fresh food! Highly recommend for both in-person dining and to-go orders!! I always go for the noodle dishes and the pho

Yelp
The viet chicken salad is one of the best lunch salads I've had in this city!!!! Please come visit this place to only get this as it's genuinely phenomenal. I am a little disappointed their egg rolls are in wonton wrappers vs rice paper though, as rice paper egg rolls seem more traditional and taste way better. Still super tasty!!

Yelp
The food is good all around they took my shrimp allergy really seriously and gave me good food options without cross contamination and no shrimp
